The Republica exceeded our expectations. Food was good , alcohol was decent if you asked for the better stuff they gave it to you. The staff very good. Resort super clean the rooms a little dated but clean and comfortable. Anything you asked for they delivered. Beach was great and never an issue to get chairs. Fun place too!

Grand Sirenis Punta Cana Resort: Meh
We don’t travel a lot so keep that in mind. The resort grounds were lovely. The customer service and cleanliness could use improvement. The water park entertained the kids but would not be up to Canadian safety standards. Tuck in your elbows or bring a load of bandaids. The slides are like sandpaper. If you require help in your room, be prepared to call many times. Our credit card was also stolen and used. The beach was lovely, although quite a few cigarette butts in the sand. The kids loved the[... read more] waves. It felt safe in the water and we saw a school of beautiful fish. A la carte restaurants were tasty and you could book as many as you want. We avoided the high pressure sale presentation for time share as we were warned in advance. They’ll call repeatedly asking how your stay is and how they can make it better. They won’t take action on your requests and only attempt to lure you to the sales meeting. Would I go back? No, but my kids loved it, great family time was had and we didn’t break the bank.

Bahia Principe Escape Ambar: Great Get-Away!
This Hotel was a wonderful choice!. This vacation being a little pricy it didn't disappoint.
The people here were very accommodating, they could never do enough for you!..as for the hotel itself, the grounds were well kept, the whole resort was pretty much spotless, they were always cleaning, painting, polishing the brass fixtures......etc., always ? smiling. It was not hard to see that many of the people are return customers because they are called by name and hugs are plenty!.
Our room was [... read more]updated 2018 with swim up, it was super nice to have when you have had enough of the main pool or beach.
Food was good...we didn't do the "a la carte" restaurants, as we prefer the "buffet". We did hear that people were enjoying them, but they found it difficult to book them. Their website/ app for here needs improvement. Wifi was included, and worked rather well!.
The beach is beautiful, soft sands, warm water, lots of seating with or without covering. Sadly, it is suffering increased erosion and becoming unsafe in spots, they have it marked and working on a solution. The pool was nice and quite large, kept very clean, loud at times but still fun!.
YES, people still put their towels out early to have the best area. YES,,even though it is frowned apon....
We are definitely happy with our choice to stay at Bahai Principe Luxury Ambar.
We recommend this resort and will return again someday!

Melia Caribe Beach Resort: Good rooms, bad food, poor entertainment
We loved our room setup with having 2 kids. We had the family bunk bed room near the beach and pool. They did forget to make the beds some days or replace towels but otherwise they were spacious!
The food was repetitive and cold. After day 4 I was looking forward to getting home to real food.
The lack of entertainment in organized activity for kids lacked. Not many resort personnel organizing “fun” activities to keep people entertained as almost zero.
Beach was well maintained.
Haba[... read more]cchi restaurant was was extra ($60US per person). Other a la carts were not great.
Enough transportation carts to the lobby.
Front lobby as not helpful with information for reservations, flight transportation or access to information.

Hyatt Vivid Punta Cana: Excellent Resort
The resort was very clean and nice looking with lots of bushes, plants and palm trees.
The food was excellent and the service was great. The Al cart restaurants were very good and you didn't have to make reservations which was really nice.
The staff were very friendly and accommodating.
Our room was nice with a big walk in shower, not sure if it was newly renovated but seemed like it might have been.
Over all it was a great week, the resort is a nice comfortable size.

Bahia Principe Explore Punta Cana: Disappointed
Not the best for seniors. Pool Loungers difficult to get out of. No chairs to sit. Buffet food was cold. Rooms dated. Staff were excellent. Grounds beautiful. DO NOT TRUST the team selling adventure packages, they lie. He sold a parasailing package claiming 3 people can go, but were told by the operator only 2 can go at once. We booked the surf pool and was told they would charge it to the room once it's used. It was charged to the room immediately with no refunds. Won't be returning

Bahia Principe Explore Punta Cana: Great resort
Very large resort - luckily there are carts to take you around. So much to do. Great entertainment. Great a la cart restaurants. Clean. I would have liked better service (we did tip). There were lots of flies at night biting us, even with bug spray. The spa was very nice.

Bahia Principe Explore Punta Cana: 5 star resort falls short
The resort had beautiful buildings and the bloomless landscape was in winter season so could not be rated. The rooms were old, the mattress was terrible and should have been replaced five years ago. The shower/tub was slippery and not suitable for seniors. The housekeeping staff left the laundry and trash in the villa lobby which I found distasteful. The food at the buffet would have been delicious if it was properly heated. The beach/pool loungers were not suitable for seniors. It would have be[... read more]en better to have some tables with umbrellas and chairs too. The one thing outstanding was the service provided by the staff

Bahia Principe Escape Ambar: Never lets us down.
This is our 8th trip to the Bahia Ambar in Punta Cana. We are never disappointed. The food is great, even in the buffet. Lots of food options.
Great staff and activities.
This is a huge resort but the trams run all the time. St the most, we waited 5 minutes for a ride.

Royalton Bavaro Resort and Spa: Nice Vacation
The Resort was very nice and clean.
Food was fair. Service was great.
A few things were not good.
First : I paid extra for an Ocean View Room.
There was no view of the ocean from my room.
The ocean was to the right and there was a cement wall that extended 3 feet from my balcony blocking the view.
I went to the front desk to complain and change rooms but there were none available. They told me to return the next day after 5pm.
I returned the next day and after waiting 45 minutes, still t[... read more]here were none available. I was told to come back again tomorrow.
I went back the next day and again waited 30 minutes only to be told the same thing.
After that I just gave up :(
The entertainment on the resort was ok but not great.

Ocean Blue and Sand: Beautiful Resort
We stayed in Feb 2023, our room was spacious with a king size bed as well as a sitting area with sofa. Pools were fantastic. Beach area was small, but still seemed large enough to accommodate anyone wanting to spend time there. Food was excellent in the buffet as well as the 7 a la carte restaurants. Would highly recommend for a relaxing vacation

Occidental Caribe: Made the best of it!
Hotel is dated and requires many upgrades (no phones worked in our room and having to walk to guest services was a hike, shower leaked at the base which required a huge bath towel to soak it all, beer was only added to fridge if it was requested daily and since we had no phone, we were always at guest services). Areas such as the sports bar, exclusive area on beach with a bar for those who pay into premium pkg no longer exists. This is a big resort on beautiful grounds...awesome beach which you[... read more] can walk for hours. Food was good...we didn't starve...it's all about what each individual likes. Staff was stretched out and line ups at the bar were at times insane. There were rumours floating around that the resort was going to be shut down - some said for good and others stated for a year of full renos...so not sure if lack of services is due to this. They are slowing moving away from anything paper - map of grounds, cocktail menu for the bars and food menus for a la carte restaurant all on QR codes and again not all up to date...not always convenient when you don't want to carry your electronic devices every second of the day.
At this time, I would not be able to recommend to go somewhere that I am not willing to go back to under the resorts current conditions.

Nickelodeon Hotel Punta Cana: Bad Experience
We were very excited to take my 4 year old here, but unfortunately that excitement was short lived. The daytime activities for swimming and water park were about the only great things. The food was so horrible and repetitive that we couldn't wait to get home. Don't get excited about the speciality restaraunts each night because they are not open every night and there is nothing posted to tell you so. All 3 of us ended up getting traveller's diarrhea on our 5th day. We tried to be very careful ab[... read more]out what we ate but the way the food was handled was disgusting and you couldn't get away from it. We had to get antibiotics when we got home. We spoke to many people who all were sick as well and some so bad they were stuck in their rooms.
The only great part about this entire trip was the excursion we did to Monkeyland.
Rooms were very outdated. Our bathroom toilet door didn't even shut. Mold was growing behind the bath tub.
The only restaraunt we found to be good was Fresco at the pool bar at building 3.
We will never ever return to this resort. Very unorganized, the beach was so rough and don't plan to enjoy yourself on it because over 20 different vendors are constantly bugging you. Our son was approached by a man with a parrot and he just propped him in his hands and tried to get our phones to take photos and wanted to charge $60 US. Thankfully we were close by and told him to leave us alone. That is not okay!!!!
For the price you pay for this resort, read the hundreds of bad reviews and go elsewhere. It may have been good at one time but it has gone downhill and you will regret it.
We are very positive people and tried to overlook the negative comments and went with a clear mind, but unfortunately all those negative comments are 100% true.
STEAR CLEAR!
The hotel rooms, grounds, swimming pools, entertainment facilities, beach and grounds keeping were wonderfully kept and plentiful. The foods at the buffets were plentiful and offered many choices. The largest disappointment was with the large number of registered guests greatly outnumbering the available space and facilities to a point that long lines occurred for seating at meals, dinner plates were unavailable until kitchen could retrieve in used plates for washing for guests awaiting dinnerw[... read more]are and cutlery after waiting in long lines to access the room and be fortunate enough to find a vacant table even if still soiled. The lounge chairs around the pools were plentiful however were greatly outnumbered by the amount of guests trying to obtain one. The amount of shade available around pools was sparse and as such lounge chairs were in most parts subject to far to much sun. The beach area was always overcrowded with people trying to find space with an unoccupied lounge chair. The ocean was usually quite rough as it is open to the full sea.

Ocean Blue and Sand: Overall very good resort showing it's age as a 4+ star.
The property is meticulously clean and well maintained and the staff work hard to ensure you have a pleasant time. Beach is cleaned of sargassum seaweed every morning and raked. The food is very good in taste and selection. A-la-carte restaurants offer simple menus with upgrade $$ options if you want to indulge. You have to line up before 9am to book the Steakhouse or the Japanese restaurants, and both are excellent. The others work on first come basis and you can usually get seated between 6-7[... read more]pm. While the bars are plentiful unless you upgrade to Privilege class the top shelf liquors are not available and after dinner only the Lobby Bar and Piano Bars are open. The Beach Restaurant is only available to Privilege guests for breakfast, but open to all for lunch. Not all the restaurants are open every night! Rooms are clean and have comfortable beds, laminate floors and no carpets. Never a problem with hot water, a/c, fan or mold on our third-floor suite. They even provide a simple and complimentary shaving and dental kit along with mouthwash in the bathroom. Easy property to walk and there is a trolley that runs every 10 minutes.
The resort is a business so will try to sell you membership over an hour presentation, but you can politely decline. Although the beach is nice, it's NOT what's in the promotional photos. More than half of it has washed away and there are huge sandbags installed to control erosion. Vendors are allowed on the beach and sell everything from jewelry (beads), excursions, cigars, photos with parrots and iguanas and so on. A polite wave-off and they move on. Lounge chairs are plentiful at beach and pools but get up early to grab your favourite spot.
The Blue Team rallies guests to get involved in beach and pool games along with nightly dancing. They host a Beach Party mid-week. Yes there are sand-flies so bring some bug spray. The nightly entertainment was somewhat lacking and repetitious. A few karaoke singers and local theater dance productions on the weekends.
Top marks for food quality and selection, cleanliness of grounds and rooms, maintenance of pool and beach areas. They should consider more or better evening entertainment.
One disappointment is the name brand liquor. All-inclusive should mean all-inclusive. Ordered a martini at the lobby bar and when I asked for name brand Vodka or Gin I was told it was for Privilege guests only so they used local stuff.
Overall we found it good value for the money and would consider returning.

Excellence Punta Cana: A very good resort - overall, part of our favourite Brands
The entire experience was almost perfect…spoiled only by a bit of rain. Thought the pools could have been a bit warmer. All dining experiences virtually perfect, and room fully met every expectation. Never a service disappointment. Ocean georgeous, and sandy beach went for miles - no seaweed ever washed up on shore. Going back soon!

El Beso Adults Only at Ocean El Faro: Surpassed All Expectations! Amazing Trip!
7 of us friends just got back from a trip to Ocean El Faro. We opted into the privilege package which granted us access to all restaurants on both sides (family and adults only).
The resort was very clean, and modern (built in 2019) - a refreshing change from the aging 5-star resorts I have been to in the Dominican Republic.
My room was luxurious, king bed was extremely comfortable and nice cold air conditioning.
Service overall was very good - not always the fastest, but staff were pleasa[... read more]nt and extremely hard working.
The beach is not the nicest - strong waves and rocky beach was not ideal, but not a deal breaker for us.
We are very glad to have taken Susan's recommendation, and I personally would love to come back again!

Paradisus Palma Real Golf and Spa Resort: First Time Solo Resort
This was my first time going all inclusive and I was travelling solo. As a solo traveller what stood out were the events on offer, there was a busy calendar of activities ranging from craft workshops to yoga to rum tastings. These were a good opportunity to mingle with other guests and were always led by enthusiastic staff. The evening entertainment was a standout and featured talented musicians, dancers and singers. I would often simply take a performance in without needing to speak to anyone.
[... read more]
The facilities are very good. My room was spotless and had everything I expect from an excellent hotel room: a good shower, lots of amenities like a snack bar and coffee, an iron, a flat screen TV and good air conditioning. It was the in adult only portion of the hotel which I highly recommend because the pool here is exclusive to adults, has a bar inside it, and was honestly so nice that I barely ever went to the beach. The grounds are easily walkable, which I was told was a contrast to other resorts like Melia Gardens where you have to get shuttled everywhere on golf carts.
The service was up and down, some experiences were wonderful and others were just fine. Basic Spanish is appreciated and tipping is required for better service, this cost me ~$100 CAD over the course of my 7 day stay but meant that I always had a good experience with the bar/restaurants/cleaning staff. If you don't want to tip that's fine but the resort will be full of Americans that are, so service will just be slower.
The food was also variable, the buffet was consistently fine and food was hot/plentiful but quite basic. I tried all of the restaurants on the grounds and unsurprisingly the Mexican (Blue Agave) and Caribbean (Flora) were the best. The steakhouse (Mina) and the Italian (Mascalzone) were both mediocre. I didn't get to try Sante as it is for the premium guests only (~$120 CAD per day).
Overall the value here is pretty good, I paid to feel safe and not have to think for 7 days and I got that experience. If you want to do anything beyond relaxing by the pool and some light partying then this is not the place for you. Bavaro is a walled off tourist enclave with no readily accessible local culture, and from what I was told it is easy to get taken advantage of when going on trips off site.
