Dining was very good for Cuba. Good choice of a la Carte restaurants. Beautiful pool and amazing beach! Rooms spacious, clean, secure. Service was very good and staff very friendly.
Bathroom by snack bar was out of commission while we were there, so bathroom facilities were limited to our room or the one by dining rooms.

Gran Muthu Imperial: Quaint personal resort
New resort so the rooms were fresh and clean. The grounds were well maintained and pools in great shape. They need more pool chairs. It was always challenging to find some available.
The resort is a perfect size keeping all the amenities close and easily accessible. The a al cartes were average to above average but the buffet food was repetitive and limited . Not sure if it was the island as a whole having trouble accessing supplies ( vegetable variety) The food area was somewhat small a[... read more]nd confined causing a little mayhem when it was busy in the buffet. Staff was fabulous . Very friendly and helpful. The beach was a little disappointing. Lots of rocky terrain in the water. Not the typical beautiful sandy beach I look forward to in Cuba. Entertainment was great. They put on great shows.
The lobby bar made fantastic drinks!
Overall it was a nice resort. Would most likely visit here again.

Grand Muthu Cayo Guillermo: Don’t do it!
It is so unfortunate that this resort was so understaffed. There is a lot of great potential but standing in 30 minute lines for not good food and fighting over plates is not my idea of a vacation. The staff tried their best but there just wasn’t enough of them. Fighting to sit at a dirty table is just gross. We will not return.

Grand Muthu Cayo Guillermo: It was OK
I intended to book online but due to a price difference, I had to call in. I wanted to book at Gran Muthu Imperial (adults only) my confirmation was for Gran Muthu Cayo Guillermo (families). I wrongly assumed Cayo Guillermo was part of the address, not a different resort My fault, I should of called back.
The resorts are side by side & the reviews appear to be similar. This was our first time in Cuba & our expectations were not high, so, were not surprised by the food. I WAS impressed with t[... read more]he finely chopped chilled salads (always chilled) the fresh baked breads, pastries & desserts. The hot food however, was never hot. The lines for custom grilled meat or fish, blocked access to the side dishes causing people to cut in & out. The staff worked incredibly hard & was always friendly. The activities team was great & the dancers were amazing. Remember fellow tourists, treat others as you would like to be treated. Please, excuse me & thank you, go a long way. People who had been to Cuba before were not impressed with this resort, would not come back & suggested other places for us to try. The rumor was that owners/management had changed & perhaps were cost cutting. Therefore, fewer kitchen/dining/house keeping staff, maintenance men to repairs toilets public& in rooms. There were stained seat cushions in the lobby & every dining area.. The lobby was large with a great bar & many seats to socialize however, there were smokers, including cigars everywhere & although 1/2 of the lobby was supposed to be smoke free, there were few signs to indicate this. As non smokers, there were times we had to leave because of the stench. A request of our French Canadian travelers, just because we don't speak french does not mean we are deaf, shouting through us to talk to others,is rude!!!

Hotel Playa Paraiso: Fabulously friendly staff!
This is a smaller resort with everything in close proximity which was nice. The beach of course is perfect with lots of shade. The pool is huge and cleaned every day. The Portuguese restaurant was excellent and the manager Billeby was so kind and attentive to all our needs. What a wonderful employee! As well beautiful Jennifer in the lobby was lovely and made our trips to the lobby bar always so much fun. Two wonderful employees. We went to the Italian restaurant at 6:30 and didn't get our m[... read more]eal until 8:10. It was undercooked so we went to the buffet which had every kind of food you could possibly want. The rooms were fine, the bathtub has a very tall wall and the tub floor is extremely slippery. If you have mobility issues, this will be tough to manage. Honestly i would suggest going to a dollar store and getting some anti slip decals. I wish I had had some! The shower was mostly good although we had a few cold showers. The hotel has mostly french canadians so not too much english spoken. The entertainment was mostly in french so we did not know what a lot of the games were about. If you have small children, this is the place for you. The entertainment staff for the kids was excellent, the kiddies had a ball. The churros beside the entertainment stage in the evening were delicious. There are plenty of tables and chairs in the lobby, no need to rush to get a seat after dinner. There is a little market on the road to the left of the resort, about a five minute walk where you can get all kinds of souvenirs for cheaper than at the hotel. All in all I would recommend this resort as the staff are among the friendliest you will ever meet. Sending our great appreciation to Jennifer and Billeby.

Gran Muthu Imperial: Amazing Resort!
This resort was absolutely gorgeous. The staff were amazing and made you feel welcome. The room and all the facilities were clean. There was always something going on for entertainment. Overall an amazing time! Will definitely be going back. Only downside was the food wasn't amazing and the buffet coffee was horrible. Had to go to the lobby bar for a decent cup of coffee.
Location of resort is great for the beach (Pilar beach is right down the road) but far if you want to explore the City.

Gran Muthu Imperial: Some good, some bad, overall we enjoyed.
Good: the resort grounds and the rooms, location of resort is close to Pilar beach, drinks were good (pina colada and espresso- so good!), the international and seafood restaurant a la carte were very good, the snack bar was awesome and we were so thankful for that, the bread was so good!!, entertainment staff were great especially Rico and Williams..
Bad: the pools were insanely cold, I am not picky but the pools were WAY too cold to enjoy, some of the service (especially by one man at the [... read more]front desk) was awful.. almost had to beg for attention, our key cards stopped working every single day and we had to line up at the front to get new cards (didnt take long at all depending on the line), the chinese a la carte we thought wasnt good, the buffet food was alright (its cuba so it's what we expected) thankful for the pasta and omelette stations, while the beach was beautiful, going into the water without shoes on was painful unless you walked to the beach in front of the family resort, only mimosas 3/7 days at breakfast (they could easily have got the champagne from other bars at the resort to make people happy but didnt).. long lines at the lobby bar always.
Overall: we had fun, there was always food to eat (even if we went to the snack bar multiple times a day), always cold drinks, the excursion Pilar Beach Media Luna was so fun (and a delicious lobster lunch!), the lobster shack beside the family resort was delicious, and your trip is really dependent on your attitude. If you let the negatives get to you, you wont have a good trip.. but despite some annoying things, we had fun.

Muthu Colonial Hotel: Old World Charm Meets Amazing Beaches
The spanish colonial design of this resort is very reminiscent of the architecture of Old Havana, and the resort is set up like a little town. The grounds are very well kept, and the rooms are spacious and clean. I spent every morning in the lobby terrace sipping cappuccinos and taking in the salty breeze from the beach, which was just steps away. The food was great, and the chefs preparing it were always happy to serve. Every morning, I enjoyed pancakes, bacon, fried bananas and a breakfast drin[... read more]k made of yogurt and fruit, a little like a smoothie. The patio bar served cocktails and a few menu items, hamburgers, fries and the classic ham and cheese Cuban sandwich. During the hottest hours of the day, I spent my time at the spacious and picturesque beach bar, where the staff were very friendly, and the hotel guests seemed to congregate. There are two pools to choose from, and one is a salt water pool. The pools both have a little restaurant right off the side and makes a good place to sip a beverage or grab a quick lunch. The salt water pool has a swim up bar as well. A little down the beach towards the west end of the resort, you will find the beach shack where you can take out a paddle boat, or a kayak or even take out a small sailboat. If you are a sun seeker, the beach is immaculate. The sun shades are spacious, the water is crystal clear, and the shoreline is dotted with coconut palms as far as the eye can see. I highly recommend this resort.

Muthu Colonial Hotel: Great trip!!
Hotel had old world charm!! Loved the main lobby where you could sit in the shade and either read a book or watch the world go by. Rooms were clean....as were the grounds. Staff was amazing!! Wait staff was very friendly and chatted easily with guests. Grounds were very clean....gardeners worked hard everyday making sure grass was cut, plants pruned back and pathways swept. Beach was clean and seaweed was removed from it. Yes we had a couple of hiccups with water in our room but hotel staff resp[... read more]onded immediately and got things fixed right away. Food was good....plentiful and well prepared. Lots of varieties. Will be returning again next year....cant wait!!

Melia Costa Rey: Room with a view
The Pullman was a great resort. the staff were quite friendly, although the front staff seemed a little moody at times. The resort itself was clean and a lot of staff working to keep it that way. However the bathrooms did run out of toilet paper a lot. The food was excellent in my opinion. Having never been to Cuba and hearing how the food wasn’t good, I am happy to say they, whoever they are, are wrong . I am having buffet withdrawals! Missing their cheese and bread and ice cream lol As far a[... read more]s the rooms go, the beds aren’t the best, but they are clean. I suggest bringing a wash cloth , as there was never any supplied. The bathroom doors could use fixing but wasn’t the end of the world . I was disappointed with the view of my room, as I paid extra for the Laguna room and got a view of some gigantic black pipe monstrosity. But I had to change rooms for my elderly father, as we were in the furthest building. I suggest the resort should have a wheel chair handy. The entertainment staff on beach, Junior and Richard were great. The lobby had a couple of good performances but I felt other evenings were lacking. I definitely recommend going to Pilar beach.. it’s amazing.
Overall I would recommend this hotel. After checking out all the other hotels by way of the hop on/off bus, the Pullman is the nicest for price point.
Make sure to get Michael in the lobby bar to make your pina colada !! The best hot coffee is at the lobby or snack bar!

Melia Costa Rey: Excellent Resort
Our recent trip to The Pullman Cayo Coco was one of the best places we have visited in the Caribbean!
We stayed for 8 days, in the family side and there were a couple of windy, cloudy days, but it is their winter so we took it in stride. Other guests that stayed in the Collection adult side also stated they loved it there. The resort is stunning and the layout of the grounds is perfect. Whatever block of rooms you are in, are close to everything the Pullman has to offer.
The food was abundan[... read more]t, tasty and well presented whether it was in the main buffet or at the a la carte restaurants.
There was plenty of entertainment throughout the day and the evening "Showtime" was great with very enthusiastic performers. Everything was clean and you could tell the staff at the Pullman took great pride in making sure our stay was wonderful! We never had a problem finding a lounger either by the sparkling pools or right on the fantastic beach. And there is plenty of shade to be had if you want out of the sun. We did have an issue with our keycard, it was system wide, so all guests needed their keys reprogammed but it was remedied quickly and efficiently.
We were able to book massages in the Spa, and it was also top notch. I can't say enough good things about this resort. I am already planning a return visit to the Pullman. I've found my new "Home away from Home"

Iberostar Origin Daiquiri: Good value for the money!
This was our second visit to Iberostar Daiquiri, stayed last January with a group of 5. This year our group consisted of 9, visiting in February. We returned to this resort because of the things we liked. The beach, white sand, close to the shore line, lots of umbrellas, small resort so not so many people on the beach. The food was good, perhaps even better this year as the resort was full and functioning at maximum capacity. Buffet was better than a la carte restaurants. Lots of choices for fr[... read more]esh fruits and vegetables. Many dishes prepared fresh, excellent fish, offerings of beef, pork, chicken grilled fresh, pasta stations, pizza made to order. The restaurant offered different items each evening, sushi night, features such as mussels, crab, etc. Fresh bread daily, pastries, desserts, incredibly good icecream.
Most of the rooms have been given a refresh, newly painted, new mattresses, pillows and draperies. New furnishings in the reception, and around pool area. However the resort is older and it does show in many places.
The staff are very friendly and accommodating. the entertainment was some of the best ( I have been in Cuba many times). Every night a show in the theater, dancing that was very well done. In the lobby bar and area each evening they provided some form of musical entertainment, bands, vocalists, dancers, etc. As well as poolside live entertainment, music, contests, etc.in the afternoon.
Bar service excellent, they went the extra distance by topping frothy drinks with hearts or happy face. Service not dependant on tipping (as was my experience at hotel in Varadaro - no tip, no attention). They did however run out of certain products (liqueurs) later in the evening (did I mention the hotel was full).
The excursions varied, some well priced and others over priced. Trip to Pillar beach, one of the most beautiful beachs in Cuba.Pay 5cuc for hop on hop off bus or private transportation with lunch thrown in for 50cuc. Best value for money and a must to see is Buena Vista Social Club performance for 35cuc (includes transportation and drinks). The best of Cuban music by far. A NEW excursion this year at an off site Spa, good value for services at a fraction you would pay for at home.
My only criticism of the experience and is not unique to this hotel. When I first arrived (late at night) and checked in, there was no record of my room preferences or links to people I am travelling with. The three rooms given were not even in the same building, let alone where we would have preferred to be. I identified this at check in and was told it would be two days before we could be moved. This is a common issue, not unique to this hotel. After a conversation with the hotel manager the next morning she was able to facilitate a room change that was acceptable. With a short turn around vacation (7 days), one does not enjoy spending an extra day or days to unpack and begin enjoying the resort.
I would definitely recommend this hotel, good value for the money. This area is quite isolated, great for a beach vacation. If interested in shopping or touring, a different area of Cuba would be recommended.

Gran Muthu Imperial: Not a Five Star
Gran Muthu Imperial Cayo Coco Cuba
February 17-27/2020
Nice clean resort and a good size. Check in was quick and easy. They gave us a glass of orange just while we were waiting to check in which was nice. Porters were quick to take us and our bags to our room. This was great since we were on the 3rd floor. Room was clean and a good size. Reported that the ceiling fan was not working right and tap leaking next day and it was fixed quickly. There are 3 nice pools. We preferred the middle one. Fo[... read more]und that housekeeping around the pool needs improving. Excessive garbage and cigarette butts as well as small stones need to be cleared better. Activities at the pools looked like fun and people seemed to enjoy them we are not into those things but enjoyed watching others who did. They played music daily which sometimes was a little loud but enjoyed it. Staff was not very friendly. This was our 5th time to Cuba and have never encountered this before. I always tell people how friendly the Cuban people are. Since there is no beach it is hard to get a lounge chair. The first day we couldn’t even find a chair let alone a lounger. So you have to go down early in the morning like 6am to put out your towels to reserve a space. They say you can’t do this but everyone does. The food was adequate but have had better in Cuba. The buffet food was usually cold and under or over cooked. If you had something made fresh it was hot and cooked to the way you like it. The buffet area was not planned well. People waiting to have things cooked had to stand in front of other food items that people were trying to get to. So they had to keep asking people to let them get to the items. Some people got a little upset. There were not enough utensils for items at the buffet so I think there could be a lot of cross contamination of food. People just used whatever they could find. They kept running out of food at the buffet no one was checking. Breads were the high lite of the buffet but often crowded and out of supply. The snack bar food was cold. There were three a la carte restaurants. International was terrible. My husband ordered the lasagna and it looked like mush in a bowl. My stuffed chicken was cold and dry, mashed potatoes cold. The lady at the next table ordered the chicken and hers was the same but she didn’t even get potatoes. The Chinese restaurant was the best. We did have reservations for the sea food but didn’t go. It is at the other resort and is quite a walk. The bars are nicely located but they don’t carry or make the same drinks so we had to go to 2 different bars. Example my husband likes rum and cola and the snack bar kept running out of cola and that’s the bar that had wine that I like to drink. The bar that had the cola didn’t have wine. Spoke to a lady and she said she came to this resort last year and it was great. Food, service etc. but it has gone downhill. This is not a 5 star 3.5 to 4 at the most. With all things considered, I would not recommend your resort to my friends and do not intend to return in the future. With the greatest majority of your customers being from Canada it would be advisable to research the Canadian diet more closely.
