Sunscape Puerto Plata: Love this place.

We love Suncsapes. This was our 5th visit in 4 years. The food is great. The staff so friendly. It's clean and the grounds are so well kept. The beach is beautiful. I love taking long walks on the beach it goes on forever. We love returning and seeing the smiling faces of those we've become fond of. They always remember us and say welcome home.

Sunscape Puerto Plata: Amazing resort!

This is our second time to this resort. We enjoyed it so much last year that we came back. Our first experience was through the upgrade into the Sunclub. This year we didn't do the upgrade and we experienced a beautiful holiday. The grounds are spectacular. Clean, well maintained and attractive to the eye. Always some gardeners performing their magic. Always wanting to make you happy and making sure that if you have a request, they are eager to help you. The beach was amazing. Always clean and the sunshine perfect. Also a great place to meet new friends, which we were fortunate to do. New friends from Vermont😎 I would highly recommend this resort and plan to visit again in the future.

Iberostar Waves Costa Dorada: Good resort, if your not a beach lover

We had 8 in or group ,worst beach ever! The storms previously had eroded the beach and brought up so much seaweed that most of it was not usable. Staff was great! They bent over backwards to make sure you had enjoyed yourself. Almost never did the soap dispensers work in public washrooms . Peacocks were a delight to see! Lots of pool games. If you go to many resorts then when you’ve seen one evening show you’ve seen them all! I give this resort 3 1/2 out of 5

Iberostar Waves Costa Dorada: Good but not great.

Grounds were beautifully kept. Food was very good. Ala Cartes also very good. Beach was ok. Garbage scattered a short walk from our beach. There was a smell of sewage in the main buffet at times. Rooms clean but outdated. Our garden view overlooked the kitchen of the next resort which was disappointing noisy and smelly. Casa Marina Reef Resort: Fair resort

This was our third visit to the Dominican in Puerto Plata Sasua..I found this resort lacking in comfort . Bedding sheets etc..could use an upgrade. From the moment we arrived , , one issue after another wrong room , clogged toilet, wasted an entire morning booking reservations to eat at one of there restaurants. On the plus side location was good scenery beautiful the food excellent. Iberostar Waves Costa Dorada: Mediocre resort

Most Staff were pleasant. Bar staff were standoffish and definitely expected tips every drink. 0ther guests reported same experience. Clean resort but not worth the amount paid compared to other iberostar resorts,

VH Gran Ventana Beach Resort: Great trip at amazing resort!

We had a great time at Gran Ventana. The food was good, there was a good variety at the buffet. There was a pasta bar at dinner time, and fresh omelettes/eggs at breakfast. The beach had a snack bar with great chicken wings and pizza. The drinks were good and there was never a long wait at the bars. The bartenders at the swim-up bar and beach bar were great. Awesome fish and experience. Overall, the staff, grounds and experience was great. We would go back again!

Marien Puerto Plata Hotel: Great Resort

Had a great time.Good entertainment.Very friendly.Staff was very helpful.The pools were awesome and so were the bars.Many excursions are available for a good price.Awesome view of the mountains nearby.

Emotions by Hodelpa Puerto Plata: Stingy, disorganized, inconsistent

Disappointing experience - Air Canada Vacations, Trip Central and Emotions by Hodelpa all failed to meet my expectations. Resort has potential but needs much improvement. It is in disrepair - chipped tiles, missing washroom signs, non functioning showerheads, warm air-conditioning are just a few examples. Staff range from mediocre to incompetent. Pleasant to your face but don't follow through - said they would send someone to fix the AC but no one ever showed. Said they never got our request for [... read more] adjoining rooms but gave us one room with adjoining door - with guests coming and going daily it's hard to imagine they couldn't fulfil our request during our stay. They simply didn't care to correct it. Neither Air Canada Vacations nor trip Central cared. All three excelled at pointing the finger to someone else. Food is passable at best. In one week I can recall only a handful of good food - grouper fish filet, fried plantains, calamari and eggs made to order. The on-site coffee shop is nice. But quality of beverages vary with the people making it. Had guacamole for one meal only all week and ran out halfway through dinner. No attempt to replenish. Don't bother with a la carte restaurant bookings. It's a farce. They only allow booking for next 24 hours and for our family with young children they only offered 9 pm reservations. But the time share salesman got us 7:30 reservations on the same evenings they told us there was.nothing earlier than 9!! And when we went we could see the restaurant was half empty at 7:30. It's a wonder anyone would buy an upgrade to come back here when their service and processes are so poor. Much better options elsewhere in Dominican Republic.

Cofresi Palm Beach and Spa Resort: Large and Hilly Resort

Thought the Resort was beautiful , lots of different pools . Both pools and grounds were will maintained. Food at the buffet and the 3 a la carte restaurants that we ate at were excellent. People were very friendly and service was always with a smile. Several previous reviews spoke about people pushing time shares, we were not bothered at all. Welcome party on Sunday night was a cross between a huge wedding and a rock concert (2000 people). Great time was had by all. Resort is very big wi [... read more]th a lot of stairs and hills. Would not be good for people who have difficulty walking, or don't like walking. Beach is not great, narrow and about 1/2 mile long.

Playabachata Hotel: Acceptable

We had an issue with the room that was resolved quickly. There is no pool bar as shown in the pictures. Rooms are clean and comfortable. Front desk, maintenance guys and maids are very good. Food is acceptable. Servers are very poor at their jobs. Entertainment was lacking. One entertainer, however named Tony was absolutely amazing in both entertaining and helping the guest's.

Bahia Principe Grand San Juan: Great Value

This is our second time at this resort and it hasn't disappointed. Very clean, great service and beautiful grounds. Expect about 90 min trip from the airport which is a bit of a drag and eats away a lot of your arrival and departure days.

Bahia Principe Grand San Juan: AMAZING RESORT

This resort is GREAT!!!!!! Heather Kalinin and Beatrice Caldwell would stay here again and will be returning in the future. The staff are great very clean. The food too was great we had no complaints at all. Over all we would recommend this resort as a 10 plus. Beatrice Caldwell

VH Gran Ventana Beach Resort: This was a superb place .

The resort is fantastic , good food , nice rooms, quiet atmosphere. The restaurants are great. The way the resort is built as a very easy access to pool, beach with very close walking distance. The staff is really polite and accommodating. It did nt matter who I ask a question to they were able to help and or bring us to someone who could answer. The only negative thing I can say is that the bars close at midnight and they only have one make up bar with very limited drinks such as rum , rye  [... read more]and soft drink. and they close a 2 am this is located in the buffet area .Not a great atmosphere. They should do the bar near the beach where they have snack during the day and provide both there. That's the only down fall to the place. Great place for a family and or just adults no crowd disturbers there , you can relax for sure. Fred.

Playabachata Hotel: Disappointed

If possible, request or book a room to the newer section of the Resort right beside the Senator complex. The older part of the Playabachata has mold. When we 1st checked in late at night, the stench was overwhelming as soon as you opened the door. We immediately went to the lobby to request a different room. The lobby staff really did not care and told us all rooms are full until the following day. My better half was insistent and advised she cannot stay in this room as she does have a sinus [... read more] issue and the mold will aggravate it. It was only then when another staff member overheard the sensitivity to mold, that she stepped in and provided another room. The 2nd unit also had mold, not as significant and the smell was somewhat bearable. The following day, we asked some other guest we met on the plane and in the lobby waiting to check in how their rooms were, and they all stated they could also smell mold. This hotel needs to address these issues. Simple consistent cleaning of the curtains and shower curtains would be a start. Not a lot of maintenance in this and it would certainly help the spread of mold. Secondly, they can shut down one of the complexes at a time, especially during the down season, and treat the mold vs painting over it. It was quite obvious this is what they do. It's unfortunate this chain does not see this as an issue. On my 3rd day in, I became ill. One week later, I'm still on antibiotics and my lungs are still congested. Family Doctor believes the mold has played a part in the infection. Other then the lobby staff and the Sunwing Reps, the rest of the staff are amazing. No complaints with the food, beach or pool. This was the 1st time I had taken my 2 kids age 10 & 11 to the Caribbean's and if it was not for the mold issue in the room, it would have been an amazing trip. JUST TOO BAD THAT ALL WE WILL REMMEBR FOR THE MOST PART IS THE MOLD. Our clothes and suitcases still have an odour of mold. Anything that can't or shouldn't go in the dryer has the odour

Marien Puerto Plata Hotel: Great hotel with beautiful views

This hotel is wonderfully situated in between the mountains and the ocean leading to beautiful views at all times of the day. Food is ok, typical Dominican food-you can always find something to eat. The buffet has little or no lineups, however the other restaurants are very hard to book- my suggestion is book all three of your nights right away when you get there as they seem to be very helpful in booking these the first day. Entertainment was ok, not as good as some of the other hotels in the area- however towards the end of our trip it did get better so it might have been out of season. The guest services was not very helpful at all. Excursions were great, although a little disorganized getting you on the bus. Once you were on the bus, they were awesome excursions and well worth the money. I suggest taking some cash as there are a lot of shops even on the hotel property that do not take credit card at all- we were told it is because of the hydro, not sure though. Over all this was well worth the money and we would go back again!

Casa Marina Sosua Trademark by Wyndham All Inclusive: It's not more then a 3 star

This hotel needs a lot of upgrades. When it rained it flooded the room. Only place that I've been too where you need to line up to get into a buffet. The location wasn't bad. You were on the beach. Beware of which beach you go to. One beach they charge for umbrellas. They are small beaches but nice. Sandy beaches all the way into the water. The grounds were nice. You're not going to get lost. VH Gran Ventana Beach Resort: Amazing Vacation

The resort has beautiful grounds and buildings.The staff are awesome and make you feel at home. Only 15 minutes from the airport. The buffet and a la carte restaurants offer great selection and something different every day. The beach is the nicest along the stretch of resorts. The rooms are clean and bug free. There are different activities daily. Just returned home Feb. 15, 2019 and can't wait to return.

Blue Bay Villas Doradas: Great small resort

Good was Great!! Smaller resort so everything was close together. Staff was fantastic. Entertainment could be a little better but the other guests made it fun. Would recommend this adults only resort.

Casa Marina Reef Resort: Nice resort

We just went from Feb 8-15th. Resort was nice, everything close together so good for us travelling with kids. The bigger pool was cold. Never warmed up even with the heat. Food in the buffet was not very good and all of us got sick with what felt like food poisoning. The little outdoor lunch buffet had the basics like French fries and pizza and burgers but was the same every day. Room was very basic and older. No safe in the room as you have to apparently pay for a safe if you want one. We we [... read more]re to have updated garden view room but were not given this room. Check in took forever upon arrival as only two staff and many arriving guests. There is no wifi on the resort unless you pay for it. Staff were friendly and were helpful. Unfortunately the beach was nice but the waves were very strong so scared the kids from swimming in the ocean. Bonus though it is only a 15 minute drive from the airport. I would not recommend this resort for reasons listed.
