The resort was beautiful. The restaurants especially "Don Quiote" Restaurant was 5 star. We never went hungry as there was wonderful food at every corner. I wasnt there long enough to sample everything. The pizza at "Los Arcos" was just like Famosa so good. The family suite was perfect for me and my two teens. The drive to Mismaloya was definately beautiful. Taking the bus to the Malecon was right outside our resort and was under a dollar for two to ride the bus. The people of Mexico are the fri[... read more]endliest. The only con was I didnt get my resort credits (only because I had to ask) and didnt have a chance to upgrade. I was only there for 4 nights. The spa was fantastic. I would definately go back.

Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya: Great Value for Price
We went to this resort as they were changing over to Hard Rock, but didn't notice any disruption in activities or services, etc. We stayed on the adult only side. Our room was quite nice and had everything we needed. Never a problem with not enough towels or room not being made up. We knew going in that the "beach area" was a man-made lagoon, but actually quite enjoyed that as you could swim in calm water and see (and feed) many fish. Would recommend wearing water shoes though. The pools were lo[... read more]vely with lots of activities and entertainment going on, while one was more quiet if that's what you wanted. Food and drinks were very good and there was plenty of variety. Service in the bars and restaurants was also very good. We made sure to always leave a tip for the staff as they work so hard to make sure everyone is having a good time. We only attended a couple of evening shows as we like to get up early in the morning so don't stay up too late. We did enjoy the ones we went to though. I wish I had the energy of some of those entertainment staff! We love the resort credit program! We used ours to do some golfing (which was awesome) and to attend the Chef's Dinner (very entertaining, great food and wine, and hilarious table companions) - no trouble making the bookings either. It's been over a year since our stay, so I hope I haven't forgotten anything. I would not hesitate to recommend this resort to anyone.

Occidental Costa Cancun: Beautiful resort!
My husband and I stayed at Barcelo Costa Cancun for 6 nights in June and we were overall very happy with their services. The room was very nice, but since it did not have a balcony, it was difficult to dry our bathing suits after each dip in the sea. You can, of course, upgrade to a room with a balcony (big, fancy one, with hammocks), but all we wanted was a place to dry wet clothes.
The hotel pool and the beach were also very nice, as were the amenities, such as towels and lounge chairs. The se[... read more]a water could have been cleaner of algae, but overall, it was perfectly nice.
Since we booked all inclusive, we got to try a couple of the restaurants at the hotel. We loved Claraboya and Mexico Lindo, where the food was truly delicious, but were not really crazy about the Albatros. This last one is the only one that does not require reservations and appeared to be extremely popular with the other guests, but we found the food really bland and tasteless. When we asked why there are no bold flavours that one normally associates with the Mexican cuisine, our server replied that it was because most tourists shy away from spicy food, so the hotel food is made with such concerns in mind. I guess that explains it, so if you are not afraid of spice, you better avoid Albatros altogether.
Speaking of restaurants, the reservation system seemed a little useless and unnecessary. In order to eat at one of the three restaurants at Barcelo Costa Cancun that require reservations, you had to make those reservations in the morning of the day in question. You missed that for whatever reason (in our case, we were always in a rush to leave on very early trips), you were left with the Albatros, even though the other restaurants were by no means full. In fact, they had only a few tables reserved.
Finally, we were deeply impressed by the personnel working at Barcelo. From the very nice ladies at the reception, to the bartenders, the ladies cleaning our room, the porters and the waiters, each and every member of the staff has been incredibly attentive, personable and helpful towards us. These people are the ones that actually make Barcelo Costa Cancun function smoothly every day and that make people like us feel welcomed and taken care of. I hope that their employers appreciate their hard work as much as we did.

Barcelo Maya Caribe: Beautiful Resort
The resort was beautiful, accomodations very nice and the food was delicious! However if I had known this location had a dolphin show I would not have gone here. Dolphins don't deserve to swim in a concrete tank! Watch The Cove on UTube, for more information on what your are paying for! Otherwise a beautiful place and resort.

Allegro Playacar: Great vacation
We just got back yesterday and stayed for 8 days/7 nights. Check in was fast and easy and they were very welcoming. Our room was nice and had an exceptional view(best anywhere) as we were pretty much right on the beach. The room was a little hot at times as we were on the second floor and had a thatched roof. It could use some updating but we don't spend much time in the room anyways.
The beach was amazing and never had a problem finding shade. The buffet was very good with a good selection of f[... read more]ood. The pool bar/snack bar was also very good with great hamburgers. The Mexican a la cart was very good but the Italian was better. We had the romantic lobster dinner on the beach with champagne which was excellent. We never had a problem being ignored like some reviewers had reported but we do tip.
We did go to the vacation club sales pitch but the marketing manager Jose Luis made it worth our while. He was very nice.
All in all it was a great trip and would have no problem going back in the future.

Presidente Intercontinental: Average hotel
First room no balcony looking unto brick wall very dark and dingy and musty smell, however they changed our room right away as hotel was only at 50% occupancy. This room was nice with a walk out to a patio and the pool it was a very large room.
Food was ok one night was Mexican festival my husband can't eat spicy and could not find anything to eat we had go outside to get him a meal. Only one a la carte and no reservation needed same staff but different location every night.
Entertainment was al[... read more]most non existent volleyball was the only thing going on in the day time and bingo in the late after noon. Out of seven nights there was only three shows and these were on weekends when the locals came and stayed at the resort.
The area is very safe and we walked around outside a lot, heavy presence of police and military who were all armed.
We did a tour of a coconut farm and slat factory and tour of the local area it wasn't worth it.

Bahia Principe Explore Coba: Great resort !
This was our first time doing a 10days vacations and we have no regrets. The resort is so big (including Akumal and Tulum) that you don't get bored. The check-in was efficient and fast. The room was very clean and my son's bed was already made which was appreciated. We enjoy walking but if you don't/can't, there are plenty of "carts" going around all the time. Again very efficient. The beach is not only a long sandy beach but some portions are, other are more "wavy", other are for snorekling and[... read more] safe for kids. I would say something for all taste. The 4 restaurants we have tried were very good with great service especially the Gourmet and Arlequin. So many variety because you can use the 3 resorts facilities. Since we went at the end of June , the weather was hot and the air conditionning in our room was barely sufficient. The ceiling fan made a difference but could have been cooler. Another small negative point is that I didn't like the fact that we had to pay $5 US/day to use the safety box in our room. It's the first time we had to pay and we travel once or twice a year. But we would go back because the overall stay was great.

Grand Isla Navidad Resort: Liked it so much I went back!
I booked this resort for a vacation with my family(wife and teenage daughter) in mid March of this year. My daughter had a friend who wanted to come and her family booked and came as well. We were impressed from the outset. The nicely equipped van was waiting for us at Manzanillo airport. The driver stopped at a local store to let us buy a couple of refreshments for the 25 minute drive. We arrived at the resort and checked in very quickly, our rooms were waiting for us. We had a very nice room o[... read more]verlooking the marina with two double beds. The room was clean and well maintained.
We enjoyed the pool area and the food immensely. The resort was not full and service was excellent. Often times it felt like we were in a private mansion with a staff of servants. We have been many places in the Caribbean and the Mexican Mayan Riviera and this place was the best. There were lots of activities including a fun little water taxi ride to Barra de Navidad which seems to be a little hippie enclave of displaced Americans and Canadians. Shopping was good at the local handicraft market and there were some good bars and restaurants for after hours fun.
We chartered a local boat to take us to a beach 10 miles up the coast, on the way we saw whales, dolphins and sea turtles. The day's adventure cost about $200.00.
After returning home on a Monday I was sitting in my office with my brother and business partner. The weather was terrible and since our business is construction oriented things were slow so I looked online and low and behold the same resort was on special for just over half of what I paid for my family. We booked the space and I returned to the Grand Bay the following Monday after being home only one week.
The staff at the hotel were surprised to see me back but treated my brother and I very well for my second week there.
We chartered a boat for a couple of hours and caught one robalo which we gave to the operator. The next day we had many compliments from the staff on the delicious meal they had courtesy of our donated fish.
Needless to say I plan on returning this year to the Grand Bay. Maybe I'll try the golf package, I hear they have a great course.

Royal Hideaway Playacar: Royal Hideaway
This resort caters to older clients 50 and above which suited me. Grounds were well maintained and quite beautiful with very large mature trees providing much needed shade to walk up to the main building. Waiters would visit laying on your lounge chair and offer to bring you beverages every half hour or so. No need to get up to visit the bar unless you wanted to stretch your legs. Room in building 24 right on the beach was perfect and could see the beach sitting on the room's patio.
Concierge L[... read more]idia was an amazing host. She took very good care of us and ensured we had our 7 dinner reservations all scheduled the first day we arrived and continually checked with us to see if we were enjoying our vacation. Most staff we encountered were amazingly friendly and polite. Some bar tenders were not very friendly. Absolute vodka, Ciroc other top shelf liquors are part of all inclusive package.
Restaurants provided very good meals for the most part. Buffet breakfast is outstanding and they serve Mimosas every morning with breakfast if you like them. Lunch can be served in the restaurant overlooking the ocean or delivered to your lounger. Felt very decadent to sit on a lounger and have lunch delivered. Formal afternoon tea was a nice treat one day with tiny treats.
Beach area is nicely shaded with palm trees if you're looking for shade and there are lots of sun loungers. There are even beds with mattresses overlooking the beach. No shortage of beach towels.
Didn't try the spa or the parasail, suba diving, or snorkeling, or day trips. Walked to Playa Del Carmen to buy a few t-shirts. Took a taxi back to the resort (this was a very hot walk of 20 minutes).
A few negatives.
Be careful on the steps in the infinity pool. Steps are all the same dark blue tile, and
some people stubbed their toes, scraped their legs because they couldn't tell where the steps were while getting out. Tile edge of each step needs to be changed to a different colour (bright yellow) so guests can tell where each step rises. Infinity pool is beautiful.
Restaurants - Las Ventanas wasn't our "cup of tea" for dinner, although the presentation by the chef was absolutely beautiful. The flavours were just not to our liking, but the beef tenderloin was really good. Entertainment was good on Tuesday at the buffet restaurant. We were among the last 10 people to be invited up to the buffet tables, and discovered most chafing dishes empty of the hot food. Even butter for the bread ran out (requested more butter from 3 servers) but were slow to respond.
Getting enough to eat over the day isn't a problem at all. Only discovered lack of food at the buffet on Tuesday.
ALWAYS use the in-room safe to store all valuables. In room safe batteries were dead when we checked in, but maintenance came and replaced them promptly. Safe worked fine. At the end of our stay some cash was stolen from a night-table was noticed after the maid cleaned the room.
I wanted to give this resort a 5 star, but given these negatives, can only give a 4.
