Iberostar Origin Playa Pilar: Good Resort, could be better

The hotel itself is nice, some of the rooms we were told are a little dated, but ours (a junior suite) was fine. It was clean, had a king size bed (the mattress was not the greatest but we slept ok) had a shower, tub and dual sinks. There is also a safe in the room to keep your valuables in although we have never had an issue in Cuba and have been five times. The resort is Ocean front but not beach front, there is an area with loungers and shade near the ocean but the boardwalk obstructs the  [... read more]view. You can get a lounger on the boardwalk if you’re r there early enough.Playa Pilar is only a 1km walk away and is gorgeous. You don’t even have to walk all the way to get a great view of the ocean. The buffet is the main restaurant at the resort. The food was decent but not spectacular, the second night we were at the resort they couldn’t keep up with demand and we went away a bit hungry. They try and cater to everyone which is difficult and some people do complain about the food. We got three “a la carte” seating throughout the week. Twice we went for the Japanese which was great and fun for everyone and the other was the Mediterranean which was again good, but not spectacular. The grounds of the hotel are gorgeous and the pool is good too. The staff at the pool and beach were great. Special shout out to Miguel who made our time at the beach awesome. Front desk staff was courteous, we had a slight delay checking in and getting our room but not as bad as some that we heard of. The entertainment team was on point, the shows were pretty good and had the Cuban flare Cuba is known for. All in all it was a good trip , the only complaint we really had was we had to ask several times for our mini fridge to be restocked. Good family resort , go for the beaches, the people and the sun.

Grand Muthu Cayo Guillermo: Very nice Resort

This is one of the best resorts we have visited in Cuba. They have very clean rooms, efficient services and well-trained personnel. In our case we had an issue from the previous visitors in our bathroom and after we called room services the technician arrived in about 15 minutes and fixed everything. The beaches are gorges. Our special thanks to FYB manager for his time and affords he put to accommodate some of our special needs. Unlike other hotels we've been before, we could easy find a manager on premises and discuss any additional services and special needs. We spend a nice vacation here and definitely recommend this resort to our friends and family.

Melia Jardines del Rey: Nice resort

Good looking resort . Beautiful beach and grounds. Clean rooms and bathrooms . Good food especially international restaurant and Mexican . Italian restaurant not worth to try . Buffet way to busy (20 min. wait for breakfast) Shortage of cutlery and glasses for that many people . Short on staff (nearly 2000 guests in high season) Hard to find a chair and space on the beach . Loud music in the lobby at night. This is not a place for people like me who like to relax and find some quiet moments .

Memories Flamenco Beach Resort: Very comfortable!

The resort was clean and grounds well kept. The beach was amazing, crystal clear water. Staff were resourceful and very friendly. Loved the daily entertainment during the day and evenings. A little bit for everyone. Loved all the daily fresh fruit at the buffet. Never a dull moment!

Hotel Playa Coco: Not recommended

I came back from here feb 24 2020, and I have to say I will never go back. My sister and I came back full of bed bug bites. Front staff very rude. Money exchange lady tried ripping us off. Nothing worked. Went with 14 people and none of us will ever return.

Melia Jardines del Rey: Melia ...NOT

The property itself is well maintained and quite lovely. The pools are large and fabulous. Thats were its stops.....the food is less than mediocre with the same 8 items repeatrd 3 times per day. Breakfast had the addition of eggs.The ala cartes have wonderful menus .....unfortunately none of this food is available.....pork or chicken unless you wish to pay 30 cuc for the overcooked lobster. Gran Muthu Imperial: Great resort!

Great place to stay. Beach is rocky, so bring water shoes. You really are in the middle of nowhere, so excursions are difficult so be prepared to stay mostly on the resort. The beach at Pilar is well worth the short bus ride for 5 Cuc. The staff are wonderful. The buffet has a bit of a design flaw as you line up for the food stations but overlap with others trying to get to the trays of prepared food. Melia Cayo Coco: Perfect holiday!

Loved the view from our balcony on the lagoon. Very peaceful and could watch the sun rise and sunset over the water. The food was EXCELLENT. Staff lovely. I can see why so many people return to this resort year after year.

Grand Muthu Cayo Guillermo: Service disappointing

The service in this hotel the week of February 11 to 18 was terrible. This was our 6th vacation to Cuba so I know not everything is going to be perfect, but when every meal in the buffet area your looking for a dinner plate, clean table, cutlery or drink of water mostly all of the above at every seating gets me angry. The ala carts were no better, one was closed for the week leaving 3 open. We cancelled our 2nd ala cart at that restaurant promptly after that. The other choices were Indian which no one in our party of 6 would consider and Italian. We did enjoy the Italian ala cart (kids 6 & 5) ate pizza, the best meal they ate the whole vacation! The service lacking in the buffet area was extremely noticeable by other guests as well. We’re the supervisors away that week! All employees when working were usually talking together in groups of 2-3. The hotel was dirty in public areas as well. Stairwells, washrooms & swimming pools. The customer service person I told her to get someone to clean the smaller pool outside the lobby entrance, which was shallower so filled with lots of kids. My grandchildren swam in it every day, and drank the water to my disgust, but he’s just learning to swim. The pool got murky come the weekend and still was never cleaned. I know there was problems in the pool area of the kids club (rusty nails and screws found in and around it) it looked dilapidated, fence boards missing and stacked up. That’s why my grandchildren were swimming in the other pool. For a resort that was recommended by my agent and was supposed to be only 2-3 years old it was sadly very disappointing. My room on the other hand I found to be cleaned well and had a great view of the ocean.

Muthu Colonial Hotel: Old world charm

An older resort but lots of charm, great ambiance, super friendly staff. Felt like a small village where everybody new everybody, staff remembered names, what drinks you liked, what you took in your coffee, where you preferred to sit, etc.

Memories Caribe Beach Resort: Memories Caribe Cayo Cocov

I thought that the service was excellent and the accomodation itself was what I expected it to be The beach is absolutely magnificent and I have been to Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Mexico and Florida east coast and west coast and Cayo Coco is the nicest beach of all the beaches The pool was very nice and the swim up bar was tended by David who is not only a great bartender but so nice The buffet and a la carte were fine A lot of people say that the food in Cuba is not good but I had no issues I [... read more] would recommend bringing byour own crushed chili peppers for pasta or hot sauce as food is not spicy The 24 hour a day snack bar serves alcohol and burgers fries hotdogs pizzas and all are good The Cappuccinos that they make are so deliciousI will be returning to this resort for certain looking at booking in November or December and stayed February 16th to February 23rd All around great value for the money and now I love Cuba !

Iberostar Origin Playa Pilar: Lovely waterfront resort!

I had a great time at this resort! My friends and I spent our week sitting on the pier by the water and absolutely loved it. The food was good for Cuba, and the Japanese restaurant was amazing! Our only complaint was the washrooms. All resort washrooms were dirty almost all the time and never had any toilet paper. We were quite upset that we had to pee in the ocean to avoid the uncleanliness of the resort washrooms. Overall a good trip though.

Melia Jardines del Rey: Good value for your money

Main lobby needs some TLC, water fountains not working, not enough light. Grounds are beautiful but ground keepers need to be more aware of garbage left around. They walk by cups or cans and don’t pick up. I did a lot of picking up. It’s a beautiful place but can be better. The place is definitely under staffed but most of them do go out of their way to help you.

Grand Muthu Cayo Guillermo: Great Vacation

Very friendly staff in all areas. The food was above average with good variety. Entertainment was very good. Different to find 10 pin bowling at the nearby shopping area. Rooms were large and nicely furnished, the bathroom was spacious. Only drawbacks was the loss of water on tice during our two week stay.

After reading so many good reviews beforehand about this resort, and having stayed at other Melia resorts in the past in Cuba, we were needless to say, excited about going to reputedly “the largest resort in the Caribbean”. Our trouble started as soon as we tried to check in. We waited almost 5 hours before a room was ready for us. Admittedly, the room was quite nice and clean. What a zoo!! People pushing and shoving, trying to get something they wanted. And the noise! Unbelievable!! And there sure wasn’t much variety to choose from. Anyway, the food, or lack thereof, was a constant all week. We had 4 a la carte meals, and only one was any good. And there were items on the menu that they just didn’t have. The International was the best meal we had all week. And it was hot. No matter what we seemed to pick at the buffet, it was always cold. Drinks! Another issue. I don’t drink alcohol, but my choice for most of the weekdays was water, tonic water, or a form of lemonade that I swear was watered down Kool Aid. There were two days when they had a diet type Cola available but that was that. Anyway, “back at the room” the toilet didn’t flush properly. When I removed the tank cover I noticed that hardly any water was going into the tank. So every time after that when the toilet was flushed I had to fill the tank with the flexible phone shower next to the toilet. But there was a bigger problem. The trap or S-bend in the toilet had practically no water in it, and gas from the septic tank was seeping up from the toilet. So I would always make sure this had adequate water in it. The problem was that the maid would come in when we were away, and she would flush the toilet during the cleaning process. So we almost always came back to a room smelling like a sewer. And there were many areas throughout the resort where we smelled this gas. Even when we were on the beach, if the breeze was right. This takes me to the beach. One section is really smooth sand, the other is a lot of broken shells and what appeared to be coral. Anyway, good luck getting a seat at the nice section. And if you walk up to the other section, you pay 2 pesos each, (approx. $3.00 each) for a chair. Some guy up there on this section owns these chairs, so you have to pay. We decided after a few days to spend our time around the pools instead. And they are beautiful and very, very clean. And tons of chairs. One morning we decided to have breakfast at one of the snack bars, rather than the buffet. Someone we met told us you could get a good but simple breakfast there. So off we went. Well, it was simple alright!! All they had was eggs. Nothing else, just eggs, and they offered us an omelet. Nothing in it, just eggs! And no coffee either, just watermelon juice. My wife asked for ketchup. No ketchup, but they did have mustard. Anyway, I could go on and on, but I won’t. This was not anything like what we had read prior to going there. There is obviously a lot, and I emphasize a lot, of shortages right now in Cuba. I read an article that said their supply of oil has been cut from 90,000 barrels a drag to 40,000 barrels a day. Embargo’s from the US and consequently Venezuela. And this explains why the sea doos and other motorized craft weren’t running. People who had paid for these were given their money back. But, you know what? With all the shortages and power outages the Cuban people are experiencing, they remain friendly and kind beyond reproach. And it this quality that will take me back to Cuba again. Just not to this resort.

Grand Muthu Cayo Guillermo: Great Resort!

Grand Muthu was a fantastic Cuban resort! We were a group of 10 people and have been to Cayo Coco 7 times to other resorts. This was by far the best one we have stayed at. The grounds had nice landscaping and were very clean and well maintained. The rooms were modern and spacious and were cleaned daily. The beach was fantastic and lots of chairs and shade were near the beach bar. Past that there was a very wide open empty beach. Overall, this resort and staff were great.

Grand Muthu Cayo Guillermo: Don’t waste your money

First off, Cuban people are really nice, the beach was really nice. As for the resort...filthy chairs in all dining areas, food is really bad, same options daily. Lineups at buffets are ridiculous as is waiting for clean cutlery, plates or service. Understaffed and overworked I think is the issue. Won’t return and do not recommend this resort. I’m a firm believer that you get what you pay for but $1500.00 for this resort is a joke.

Iberostar Origin Daiquiri: Amazing Resort!

This hotel had the best staff, was clean, most beautiful part on the beach. Would highly recommend, only problem was the food but you don't expect anything more when booking for Cuba. All around my party and I had a blast!

Iberostar Origin Daiquiri: Nice Resort

The hotel is nice but slightly run down. Our air conditioner wasn't very strong, which left the room with a musty smell the whole time. We always had warm water to shower! The food variety was fine and always plenty to eat! They could improve the snack options between meals. Other resorts we've been to had more options, the Daiquiri only had pizza in the afternoon and ham sandwich late at night. The beach was nice and great for kite surfing and snorkeling!
