We stayed at the Blau from April 28th to May 5th, 2017 and had a wonderful vacation. The resort was clean, the room was not fancy, but clean & nice. The grounds were well maintained. We stayed on the Plus side, which gave us access to an additional pool, bar and extra a-la-carte dinners. The food at the buffet was fine - we found we had lots of selection and the flavor was good. We enjoyed the Italian restaurant the best. It had good pizza and the a-la-carte dinner was plentiful and well [... read more]prepared. The other a-la-cartes were nice, as well.
There was plenty of staff around the resort. They had activities daily for those that wanted to participate. We enjoyed hanging out at the beach and pool. The beach was shallow and didn't get very deep until you went quite far out. In some places it was rocky, but you didn't need water shoes to go into the ocean. There was great snorkeling just off the beach. We took our gear and went out several times - even saw an octopus! We had no issues getting chairs, but we were there just into the low season, so perhaps that is why. Although they seemed to have lots of chairs at the beach and pool areas.
We did one excursion - the "Blue and Green", which was the jeep one. We actually drove the jeep from the resort to the places we visited. It was a good tour and we enjoyed the vistas we saw. We talked to others who did the catamaran excursion, and they enjoyed that one, as well. Prices are in US dollars, making it a bit high with the conversion.
We met many other guests who have stayed at this resort multiple times, so we knew it was a consistently good pick. We would stay there again, but we often like to try different places so would consider another one as well. We liked this area of the island because it wasn't too busy and we were looking for a quieter vacation. We would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a hotel in the area, as we had a great experience there.

Aston Costa Verde Beach Resort: Amazing people and place
This is our second time at this resort, and is still amazing, we booked in the "plus" side and is worth it, you get a swimming pool and a bar, only for the plus side. People are very friendly and they did more than what they were asked to do, to make us comfortable and happy. The cleaners did a great job in our room, it was always spotless. The buffet stuff are excellent. The food was excellent, there is always something to eat, either snack bar or buffet. We made reservations a la carte for 4 [... read more]nights which was wonderful. At this time, there was a lot of mosquitos so don't forget to take repellent (just in case). They even have ice cream machine at the beach snack bar which goes well with the heat and kids. The beach is wonderful for swimming or snorkelling (we even found lots of Dorys). We can't wait to go back!

Blau Varadero: Still A Great Resort
I just returned from my 4th stay at the Blau Varadero and had another wonderful vacation. This is my first time back since it has become an Adult only resort. I normally travel in March or April so I'm not sure if it is the reason for my only concern or not. I always brag about the food at this resort as being the very best in all of Cuba and I've been to Cuba 13 times but this time I was disappointed in the very poor selection most nights. If I had to guess I would say it was a low season a[... read more]nd only catering to the European guests, just my opinion. I have to say that because of the food choices or lack of, I was ready to go home on my 5th day there and that saddens me. I stayed in Room 1221 and loved my room, very clean and wonderful size. Several of the staff remembered me from my previous visits which is always very nice and welcoming. I will return one more time, hopefully in April of next year just to see if the time of year makes a difference in the food selection before I decide I have had enough of this beautiful little resort.

Punta Peninsula Varadero: Blau Marina Review
Generally a good beach resort but the food was awful. Meat undercooked, chewy and bland; vegetables not fresh; deserts dried out; wine poor quality; the only good thing was the beer and espressos. Room was ok but no elevators to carry luggage up floors. No tissue paper in room. Beach is beautiful. Staff friendly.

Punta Peninsula Varadero: Great resort! Would go back!
I went with my 18 year old son from April 26th-May 3rd, I wish we were still there! The great things about Blau Marina far outweigh the bad! The pools were super clean and fun, swim up bar kept drinks flowing with a smile! The grounds were clean, well maintained. The beach was so beautiful, a lot nicer than the ones I have seen in all my travels to Dominican Republic. This is such a great location to stay at because across the street is the Marina plaza, there are a bunch of stores and boutique[... read more]s to shop in, including a liquor store, ice cream parlour, clothing stores, shoe stores, place to eat etc.
Rooms pretty good, little outdated like the large silver square TV sets, lol. 2 channels were English speaking one was CNN and channel 20. Temperature of room was nice and cool, beds were good, maids were friendly and efficient. Mini bar restocked daily.
Front desk staff awesome, check in took about 3 minutes, check out even quicker! Great staff throughout entire resort.
Bad points: the food sucks! The only great meal I had was at the Italian a la carte! Breakfast was the most edible meal of each day.
Bad point #2- after 6pm it's MOSQUITO CITY!!! You will get swarmed anywhere you go, apparently this resort doesn't bother spraying. I've never experienced this at any resort that I have ever been too. We were advised ahead of time of the mosquito issue, so we brought 2 full bottles of bug spray, we used both bottles-gone!
So in conclusion, we had a great time, we would go back, we would recommend this resort to others!

Aston Costa Verde Beach Resort: Best Holiday to Cuba in a long time and fantastic resort
The hotel was awesome, staff was very friendly and pleasant to speak to. The food was very good for Cuba, no complaints, The Italian restaurant had the best pizza I have ever tasted.
The pools were awesome, bars around the pool were great, didn't have to wait long for a drink, service was over all good.
The grounds at the Blau Costa Verde were gorgeous, I didn't realize how big the resort was until we walked around, and the flowers and the grounds were well looked after, and trimmed nice.[... read more]

Aston Costa Verde Beach Resort: Mediocre Resort
The servers in the buffet weren't very happy (which is quite understandable as they were probably working 18 hours a day). Most of the bartenders are extremely friendly and nice (especially the pool-bar bartender, he became my boy by the end of the trip). The entertainers are extremely awesome and friendly as well, I was constantly talking to them and they were clearly happy to be there working! My negative part comes down to the overall cleanliness of the resort and my room. My room was not cle[... read more]an, and it seemed as though the maids did not clean anything in my room (and I did not put the "do not clean" sign up). I noticed the same mark on my sheets every day after the maids had visited. Not only that, my bed was absolutely terrible; I left the resort with bruises on my stomach because of the springs digging into me. I did not stay on the Plus, which I wish I had as I made friends while on the trip, and they had told me those rooms were much nicer. The a la carte restaurants were pretty good, and the Italian a la carte restaurant allows you to eat there during the lunch hour. They provide a different lunch menu serving pizza and pasta (the pizza was actually really good, and was thin crust). Overall, I rate the resort 3.5/5. I would maybe go back if the rooms were cleaner and my bed springs didn't dig into me.

Aston Costa Verde Beach Resort: Wonderful Adult Vacation
Travelled with 4 adults to the plus side of the resort from April 21-28. We had 2 rooms very close to one another (could see each others doors) without even having to ask. The rooms were very nice and featured a shower that would rival the best 5 star hotels. Excellent shower heads with lots of water pressure and room for 2 people easily. The beds were a little firm for my tastes, but I still found them comfortable.
The food at this resort is much better than I have come to expect from Cuba.[... read more] Buffet was good, restaurant by the VIP pool had great lunches, and the a la cartes were to die for! We tried Spanish and Italian and I would happily pay 50$ + per person for those meals in Canada! The house red wine is also pretty good which was a welcome change from most resorts. One small food annoyance is how busy the prepared food stations in the buffet get. Made the unfortunate choice of waiting for the fresh pasta station one night and it took over 30 minutes...going forward I just created my own using the pasta and sauce selections available with multiple meats and veggies, just as good!
If you want a shady area by either pool or the beach and expect to stay in the area until you are finished - other guests will steal your towels if you leave too long and you need to pay to replace them (as learned by some people we met at the resort who left to go to the market for 2 hours with saved chairs). I personally think that the act of saving chairs in the shade should be banned as it prevents people from being able to enjoy their vacation....but we happily took places in the shun and went into the shaded VIP pool bar when we got too warm!
VIP bar is open from 6pm-9pm and is amazing. Bartenders are wonderful and will go the extra mile to make your drinks special. You can ask to have them turn up the music a bit so long as no one objects and get a dance party going as well, very fun!
All in all an amazing vacation, and I will definitely be going back!
Mosquitos and flys were terrible!!!!! The dining areas were full of them, on your plates, forks, arms, legs, etc, along with birds flying above you and their "droppings" everywhere!!! The bites were huge and extremely itchy!!! We tried to sit at the bar after supper and to attend the performances by the dancers, but we had to leave before the entertainment started because the insects were so bad! We spent every night in our room after supper because of the insects.
We have been at 5 oth[... read more]er resorts before Blau Marina Varadero, but at all other resorts, we never once had an issue with mosquitos, flys or any other insect.
The food was not very good, and the room could have been updated.
The beach and grounds were beautiful, but my husband and I were also bitten badly by flea-like sand flies.
While waiting for the bus to take us to the airport in the main lobby/bar area of the resort, minutes before the bus picked us up, the birds flying overhead, hit me with their "droppings" all over my back, my hand, and I had to run to the washroom to remove my top and wash it before the bus came to pick us up. I just made it to the bus with my top back on soaking wet. It was not a good experience!!!

Blau Varadero: Amazing resort and staff!
This was my first time to Cuba and I'm glad I picked this resort as my first experience because it did not disappoint! It was an adult only resort so mature and relatively relaxed. The food was amazing, the beach was stunning and the staff were all beautiful, warm and welcoming. I will miss Agdiel, Orlando and Alexander the most and hope to see you all again soon!! I already miss Cuba and can't wait to go back.

Punta Peninsula Varadero: Mosquetoe Blau Marina Resort should be the title and for added fun (sand fleas)
When I first arrived it was late and had to wait for my room at 10 pm at night. I was hungry so was told to go to the Light house open 24 hours. I was told I could get a hamburger or a tuna sandwhich.I took the tuna with fries on the side this was ok. Missed the buffet lunch one day, having too good a time at the beach. So to the light house for a club sandwich it was a tiny piece of chicken, and some tomatoes and shredded ham and cheese and tomatoes, not good. Started to rain so more bugs.To get[... read more] to the light house and the discoteca you crossed a tiny bridge that was over a swamp like pond and very smelly. Hence the mosquitoes.
Then taken to my room, 2nd floor junior suite, it seemed fine but the patio door would not lock had to get someone to fix it, but still had problems locking it. So once I got it locked never went out there, too many mosquitoes anyway.
Everything looked nice. The main lobby you could not sit in to enjoy a beverage and chat with other guests unless you had insect repellent. You had to be constantly shooing them away. The entertainment was good but again had to fend off mosquitoes. Another guest had brought insect repellent and was glad to give me some. But still bitten. Another guest was bitten so bad had to go to the hospital. The Buffet restaurant food was good, some too salty avoided those had to tell the chef no salt constantly and few mosquitoes but birds were flying around another guest sitting next to my table had a bird shit on his shoulder. Couldn't book the special rest. for your time just what was available and I did this next morning able to book two of the 5 most already fully booked, ate mostly at the buffet. Some guests complained about the food but it depends on your taste. The staff was most courteous however some were extremely slow to render their service. Called a few times to get picked up and took too long after 10 min. decided to walk. I have health problems and lost a lot of time waiting to get taken to the restaurants and the beach. Was never able to exchange my beach towel always told not today or later but even when you came back same story no towels or later. Animators for the beach and pool were good but often waiting for more people to join or went to get them, so events started late or were cut short. Weather was bad at first some rain and more mosquitoes, but cleared up.Too windy to do water sports 1st few days then calmed down was able to get the paddle boat and the catamaran. Luckily, it booked up fast and only took you out for 20 min and 1/2 hour for paddle boat. Discoteca was great did a lot of dancing . Did a day outing interacting with the dolphins, some snorkeling, lunch at cayo coco, our catamaran was the last to arrive, so most of the food for our lunch was cold and they had no utensils we had to wait to get them before we could eat. not impressed. Last day had to be out of the room by noon and store luggage had to return towel then too, but I did't bring a towel and had to make a fuss to keep mine until my departure. They give you a room to change and shower before you leave, so I was booked at 4:30 and bus was coming at 5:15 pm. Got to the room other peoples towels were on the floor and no clean towels for me called the desk said would send right away 15 min later arrived had time to take a 5 min shower , good thing because knock, knock time to go hadn't dried my hair or gone to the toilet. So I figure I would go on the bus, BIG MISTAKE the bus toilet was out of order. So the tour boy suggested at the next hotel I could go but then stopped at a gas station where I was attacked by sand fleas all over my ankles and feet while walking to the bathroom and in the washroom it was the most disgusting thing but had to relieve my self didn't sit on the toilet but had to fend off mosquitoes again before I could go. returning to the buss more flea bites. Luckily a guest on the bus had antihistamine to relieve the itch. Had to see my doctor. But I must say the staff for the most part were good and apologetic about the bugs always courteous and smiling all the time and most willing to do whatever they were capable to do for a guest. I would not recommend this place because of the Bug problem. Other people on our day out said their hotel had no mosquito problems so I guess Blau hotel & resorts should clear up this problem at this resort. Another guest a french woman a widow, was so upset and glad I could speak french to her, she wanted to leave but told me I have 6 more days and had been bitten by sand fleas, I advised her to contact her agency and talk to the hotel management. She too,as have I, had been to Cuba before but never encountered this problem. I went to clear up my psoriasis and did but these bites will become psoriasis and went to dance and I did. Because of the bugs ONLY, I would not recommend this to a friend. Again the staff was good but also slow. Again a friend picked this not my travel agency that helped me book this so I could join my friends.Their son 8 yrs old asked me to go into the pool ,at the baby and mini club pool, with him and i got sick lost my voice from swallowing the water when I came down the water slide. Blau should check out the water more often for germs. Thumbs down for this resort.

Aston Costa Verde Beach Resort: good hotel
I have been to this resort many times. They have expanded but have not expand the amenities. Too long of a wait for buffet and not enough beach chairs or huts to meet the new section. Hope they get these things fixed. The staff is very good and does make up for some of the issues. I would recommend but with cautions.

Aston Costa Verde Beach Resort: Better than ever!
We just returned home from a 2 week stay at the Blau Plus Section. There have been a lot of improvements over the past year. The grounds are well kept and new plants being put in the ground daily. Lots of painting and maintenance has been done and being done now. We enjoyed ourselves to the fullest. The only problem I had was the long line ups at the buffet, especially at breakfast time. It appears that they expanded while including the Plus Section, but didn't expand the buffet. Other than that[... read more] it was an awesome trip. The people are as friendly as ever at the resort. Gary at the Plus swim up bar is an awesome bartender as well.

Punta Peninsula Varadero: Great resort, but needs some cleaning up!!
The Blau Marina Resort has gone down hill badly since we stayed there 14 years ago! The staff is still friendly, the beach awesome, the food ok, but the rooms needed a good cleaning, the sheets were scarce, the bugs were on real. ( we are still dealing with many bug bites each!) The nightly entertainment was fabulous!
One thing I noticed was the cooks were using the same tongs to handle cooked and uncooked meat, without washing in between. The ice cream scoop was always a mess, no running wa[... read more]ter here and scoop was broken. We missed eating lunch at the pool side grill as it was closed for repair.
Clean beach towels were impossible to get, so used same one all week.
We were happy to have a late check out for 25 CUC. The marina across the street was a great place to spend an afternoon and enjoyed the double decker bus a couple of times.
We will likely not return to this resort, and we have stayed at many, so are aware what is the norm!!
