Great resort

Fourth time at this resort and in spite of the transition to new management it is as good as ever. Beautiful grounds and beach. Rooms are comfortable, if a bit dated and the food is good. Staff are friendly and helpful. Clients reflect a good mix of age groups. I see a fifth visit in my future.

Good Resort

We stayed at Los Cactus from Feb 19 to Feb 26/17. The resort although dated was in pretty good shape. When you drive up to the main entrance there is still a welcoming entrance in good shape. The staff were friendly although they were lightly staffed at the time. The resort we were told was sold when in fact it seemed to be in transition all through our stay. There were few if any staff on the grounds but the area was clean. The room was spotless although dated still nice. The bathroom however w [... read more]as old and the fixtures were old and worn , rusty and in desperate need of replacement. There was hot water , you just had to play the time of day game to get it. The maid was excellent and did a great job. There were supposed to be 3 A La Carte's and that was a stretch. The Italian was nice ! the Cuban has basically everyday fried chicken but was good ! the Grill was not !!!!! it was just the beach grill with table service ! The night we were there it was raining lightly with little cover !. This is not a A La Cartre it's just the basic beach Grill with table service !!!!!! (repeated) !. The buffet was clean and adequate ! it had limited selection but the hold temps were good. Service at the buffet for drinks and coffee was ok with some help yourself at times. Pool and area was spotless. The beach was excellent as expected except no clean up on Sunday !. We had a great week headed into town a couple of times on the bus (best way to see The whole Peninsula and reasonable 5Peso for all day !. Watch out at the Airport ! it seemed to be the place you had to be careful the most ! Our tour guide on the way to the Airport came off as helpful NOT ! She said if you have money to change back to Canadian to see her ! DO NOT DO THIS ! She will rip you OFF ! As well there were numerous people walking around the check in area with Canadian Currency trying to get you to exchange your Peso ! DO NOT DO THIS ! Wait until you check in and go up stairs there is a booth and they will give you the correct exchange ! (As long as you realize that the Cuban Government makes 7 % on all Money exchanges ! You buy for 1.37 and sell when you leave for 1.30 !!!!!!!!! THATS THE BEST YOU"LL GET !!! So we lose anyway ! AND DONT TIP ANYWHERE EXCEPT FOR GOOD SERVICE !! Which you will get the majority of the time ! To Sum it up ! The resort Ok ! The food Ok ! The Beach Perfect ! The Staff Great although limited ! The Experience a 31/2 out of 5 !

Very quiet resort

The resort is dated. Clean and people friendly. Beach is very nice. Food is Cuban and not much variety. Entertainment is minimal, start at 21:00 and ends at 22:00. After which the place turns into a ghost town. The stay was relaxing. Resort was a little too quiet for our liking.

First timers in Cuba

Since being a barber has its own benefits in hearing diferent experiences from my clients about Cuba in general, i was expecting bad food not so clean resorts, poor sad people outside of the resort and good cheap rum. But after spending week with my girlfriend at Breezes or now Hotel Los Cactus, i can swear that there is one more Cuba that people i talked with went for visit. Big thanks to our server for last few nights Herman, really great guy and was always makings us laugh with his positive aditude. Lady at the bar who helped us with advice how to take out shripm stain that i got while going trough amazing selection of sea food that resort had one night! While at food there is nothing i can complain about, it was always fresh as it can be, if you dont like sea food there is lots of good stuff from beef and chicken selection that will keep you full for sure, and if you are really picky chef will always have something cooking up on a grill so nothing to worry. Only one time i think chef at beach grill got mad at me cuz he had to make 3 of his delicious burgers only for me hehe :) Fuit is fresh and amazingly delicious, frist day we arrived they had fresh coconuts being cutted up and handed out before entering beach (.. - to describe how amazing beach is it would take me first few years of school to learn more words that are able to describe beauty of it-..) so all i am gonna say is that if weather is nice and water calm you will have to pinch yourself just to realize you are not dreaming. But there is something you should be carefully about, its little cactus like balls not bigger that 25c coin that is sometimes hidden in sand and can poke your foot, but dont worry its not that sharp so it doesn't puncture any skin, just sticks to it and annoys a bit :) We did 3 tours, Havana Colonial- very informative but little too long for your couple that likes adventure. Took us 12hours from leaving hotel to coming back Three City's- amazing time great food in Trinidad! Again little too long to spend 15hours on tour Jeep Safari- best off road experience i had in while, versatile cuz we swam in cave, did snorkeling, visited did horseback ride and had great lunch at amazing coffee farm where me and girlfriend met 89year old house owner and his wife where he gave us private seperate tour of his house and property, amazing person, i wish i knew more Spanish i can imagine what stories he has to tell! Definitely worth money cuz you get your own standard SUV and you drive it in group of 4 people! Loved it definitely recommending!! In overall, i cant wait to have more vacation time so i can come back and get our money worth again at this beautiful Los Cactus Hotel resort. Big thanks to Herman, Adell, Steve Wonder voice like guy (sorry i forgot how to spell your name even you told me 100times), Desmarias at bar that kept rum river at good flow :) and other nice people that we met, you all made our stay amazing and full of great memories! Great Resort

We were in Varadero from Feb. 5 to the 19th. The room we were in was in a great location, close to the pool, buffet, beach, etc. The workers were friendly and did a great job. They have very nice a lacarte restaurants and a very nice well located little coffee bar for specialty coffees. The girl making the specialty coffees was very friendly and cheerful which really helps brighten your spirits even when you are already enjoying your vacation. If there was something that could have been better  [... read more]it would be the poor coffee service in the mornings as it seemed to take a long time to get a cup of coffee and then when it did arrive it would be luke warm at best. There has to be a better way to make and serve coffee in a large buffet rather than making one cup at a time. Other than that one small complaint it was a great vacation and the resort was great.

ASTOUNDING!!!

This was by far the best resort out of several we have stayed at. The room was immaculate and kept that way all week - NO MOLD, NO BUGS, ABSOLUTELY NO ISSUES :) The grounds and pool were kept in wonderful shape all week as well. Very easy access to anywhere on the resort you cared to venture off too. Staff couldn't have been more friendly and helpful (except one of the head chefs - just crabby faced all the time). Everyone knows you don't go to Cuba for the food well this resort worked very [... read more] hard on that issue and it turned out to be perfectly fine even down to a gala dinner served on our first night there where they bbq'd lobster tails! The BEACH, well I don't think I even have to explain...We spent the majority of our time right there...it was cleaned every morning, no issues with beach vendors, just fantastic all the way around. Take your vacation there, you won't be disappointed!

Good Value for the Price

For the price we paid this was a pretty great value. The hotel grounds were spacious but not so big that it would take us a long time to get to where we needed to go. We LOVED the hot tubs by the pool, and that you could always find a lounge chair either at the pool or at the beach. There were never any long waits at the bars to get drinks which was a bonus! But the long lines at the buffet were very frustrating. The food was what you'd expect for Cuba but the hotel could really re-think the [... read more] layout of the buffet. It didn't make sense to have to wait in line behind people having their pasta made to get the meat grill, some evenings we were in line for up to 30 mins waiting to get food. A couple of mornings I had to wait for coffee in the lobby bar (which was the only place to get coffee before 7:30 am) which I found off putting. I'm not sure why there wouldn't be coffee ready to be made in the mornings. As coffee lovers we found that only the lobby (or coffee bar) had decent coffee, the coffee made at the pool bar or with meals at the buffet were not drinkable. Hot water with some steamed milk. A la carte's were great and a welcome change from the buffet food and waits we experience there!

Great resort

The hotel was very good the ground were well maintains ground keepers friendly and worked hard. Our room was clean and all the staff helpful and friendly and very polite. The food was plentiful and a good variety.

Amazing trip with family

The resort can use some TLC. We had a amazing trip with family. I would suggest that if you need to use the restroom often this is not the best resort. No washrooms near the pool area with out going down some stairs. And they don't have any facecloth or hand towels in the rooms. Other then that I would go back to this resort.

Relaxing Family Vacation

9 of us travelled to Breezes Veradero(Hotel Los Cactus) 2 of us from Edmonton Alberta and 7 from Ontario. we arrived around 3 am. The front desk was expecting us and even left us our beach towels. So nice and thoughtful. They also extended out room for small fee when we left as out Shuttle was at 12:30 AM and check out id typically noon. you can exchange money at the front desk - we went almost daily as we needed small bills often. best to go early as everyone does the same thing and they r [... read more]un out quickly. The resort is a smaller resort which we enjoy. I stayed in room 229 a garden Suite. 229 was in a nice location not too far from the lobby or pool and far enough from the disco. WE had an amazing maid named Teresa. She kept it nice and clean. we did have some ants coming from the floor drain in the bathroom but It wasn't a big deal. If possible I would recommend to add more drawer space we only had on little chest off 3 drawers, Poor hubby had to live out of his suitcase. The fridge kept things cool not cold but honestly we only used it to store a few items and id not drink and of the beverages. Teresa left us water everyday and extra if we wanted it. The grounds - we saw several people working on the grounds daily and they were well kept. They were repainting building working on tile work etc. the hotel is dated but they do their best to try and keep it looking nice. The pool is very cold so we tended to go in it in the late afternoon to cool of. The caulking was starting to come apart but one of the employees told us that they are planning on redoing it coming up. There were several hot tubs which are very nice and they drain and clean them nightly! Thank you. THE BEACH was the best part in my opinion. BEAUTIFUL clear water and soft sand. We went snorkeling for 20 CUC per person right from the beach it is well worth it. Food- food was ok. We knew it was not going to be phenomenal. It was better than I was expecting. Egg/Omelet guy is fantastic. At night in the same location you can get chicken, pork, etc. depending on what they had. We honestly just got sick of the buffet by about day 2. Keep in mind we are big foodies . The resort is not far from Varadero so we travelled into town on a few occasions. Had a fantastic surf and turn at EL RANCHERO. Great souvenir shopping. Do not reply on the airport> I wanted to shop duty free for coffee etc but early in the AM they couldn't process CC.

Very Nice Resort

Everything was to our liking and expectations, the rooms were nice, the food was okay, the a la cartes where very good, however, if you didn't like coke with your rum, sprite, ginger ale ect. was not available unless you purchased it from the gift shop or off the resort, if you didn't like rum, rye was not an option. The entertainment was very good, I like it anyway. The beach was great, the pool was clean.The last resort we stay at in Cuba only had toilet paper in the rooms and it was nice to s [... read more]ee it in all the rest room on the premises. Some of the staff I was not impressed with, especially at the bars, you could be standing there and they seemed to ignore you, however the servers at the restaurants and buffet where excellent. Was very surprised that there where no face clothes in the rooms, will make a mental note next time to bring some.

Good resort

Good resort but needs tlc food could be better Entertainments could be better Grounds are really good and kept clean Staff are really friendly but should take care of guests first before talking with other staff.

Los Cactus - Great resort

A great weeks vacation at Los Cactus. The hotel grounds were well kept. the pool was always spotless. Hot tubs everywhere. Lots of entertainment and activities, but still quiet. Our room was in the junior suite section and I had imagined I would be hearing the disco all night long, but not a sound was heard. No problems with the room. Finally, the food - not bad as far a Cuban hotel food goes. All in all, good hotel, good times.

Breezes Veradaro, Cuba

Loved the hotel --- close to a wonderful beach and across the street from a great golf course. Staff was very friendly and very helpful.. Food at the buffet was extremely good ---rooms were excellent ---a little tired, but excellent. Pool and grounds and facilities were very well maintained Nightly entertainment was superior. My sister and my son and I are planning on going back next Christmas. Mike Mills

Paradise

Can't beat the grounds and beach. Staff are very friendly. Rooms are nice and clean. But this is Cuba. Expect a few things that don't always work. Had to take the toilet tank off and push the float every once in a while because the tank wouldn't fill. The door handle to the porch fell off and wouldn't go back on so had to tape it in place to stay. I would recommend this place. No kids.

Breezes Varadeo

Resort is dated, but kept clean. Pool and hot tubs were cleaned and sanitized daily. Rooms were clean and maids did an awesome job. She was very concerned when we both got sick from eating in Havana, not the resort. Even though her English was not very good, she communicated how concerned she was and left a short note to express same. The buffet was good. Different foods every night. Fresh made omlets the way you wanted. Beaches beautiful. Our balcony overlooked the ocean and the pool. Great t [... read more]o relax there with a coffee and baileys and good Cuban cigar. Wouldn't ever plan on going back

Grounds and public areas were well maintained. Lack of beach and room towels. Every time i asked for fresh towels i was informed they ran out. Food was nothing special. Dry chicken, pork and beef on the repeat. Pasta was way too hard and not cooked well at all. More like eating a raw soup. Lets just say i ate better at a 3.5 star resort. Oh on top of that my room maid Marlena was extremely rude and ungrateful.

Breezes Varadero

The check in/out staff here are not overly friendly and require some training on customer service. Not many smiles, abrupt, if you only speak English this may be an issue. The cleaning people and dining area people were great. One exception where a dining room individual was rude when people sat at a table that was on edge of closed zone. There were not other tables available in area they wanted to sit. Overall cant say the people were the friendliest at this resort actually. Tipped everyone  [... read more]and that seemed to turn some people around but others still were not overly friendly. Not the most up to date place and the food was average at best. Personally I would not stay here again but that is most likely due to my own standards. This is a 2.5 to 3 star resort...not a 4.

Be open minded.

It's Cuba, so I don't need to mention the food. Must have been something in it's day. They seem to be trying but there is a lot of work to be done. Few firsts, staff eat and drink in the restaurant with customers and you may have to wait behind them, also you are never immediately acknowledge in a lot of places, i.e. bars, front desk etc. even if you are the only one there. They also do tend to gather amongst themselves and sometimes make you feel like you are interrupting. Do yourself a favour  [... read more] and tip, tip ,tip. It will make for total better service. Most of the staff seems friendly if you initiate conversation. The location is great. We just wanted a cheap quick getaway and this did the job. We stayed in the hotel. The other parts of the resort looked better for rooms.

Loved it.....

I really enjoyed my first trip to Cuba and the resort as a whole. The rooms are large the staff does an excellent job of keeping the rooms and the whole of the resort very clean. Great people .... very helpful. The food , facilities, beach, entertainment and location were wonderful .
