Amazing resort

Visited resort for 4 times . Best memories during stay under "Beaches". Very good service specially for return guests. The grounds and entertainment are very good. Overall i like this resort. Good variety of food, perfect service at the piano and lobby bars.

Not a 4.5 star hotel....at best 3

The Melia Las Antilles resort is in a serious need of upgrading. BIGGER isuue is the food offered in both their buffet and individual is being served luke warm to cold when items should be hot.......room temperature when needing to be cold. RESULTED in being sick.....first time in our travels in 10 years both in Cuba And Mexico. Grounds were just being taken care of with major trimming etc.which looked lovely but with one pool only,, work being done with pool deck surfacing and redoing each of t [... read more]he shade umbrellas left us not really wanting to spend time poolside. TOOK three rooms to finally settle in...1st one offered steps away from the only opened late bar....second one a much quieter choice but no safe offered and finally the third which had a safe that didnt work. THANKFULLY with excellent service from the girls on the front desk it was fixed within the day. CLEANING STAFF AND ALL GENERAL serving staff were excellent as well. BEST entertainment goes to their in house band which we were fortunate to hear twice.....defiantly ELLEN Show worthy. BEACH Is what we go to Cuba for so this didn't let us down. OCEAN defiantly colder in October than in April which was when we last visited and stayed at the Royal Hiccacus which is simply the better choice.

Wonderful Vacation

This was a wonderful relaxing vacation. The service was good and people treated us well. The beach was gorgeous and there were activities to join throughout the day. We loved the Nurse sharks in the river around the resort and the bridges were super romantic at night.

Very Disappointed

The Hotel is very outdated and seriously needs to be updated and cleaned up starting from the elevators that don't work ! Bathroom showers that have rusted ceilings, ceramic tiles that are about to fall off, bathroom doors that are rotting away and mattresses that you can feel the springs pushing against your back, not to mention the terrible pillows. This used to be a very nice place, but it has definitely been neglected and is certainly not up to the Melia standards. It,s more like a 2 star Ho [... read more]tel, and the a la carte menus in the 2 restaurants leaves much to be desired. However the grounds, beach and especially the staff are first class, to bad they are not being treated that way by the administration. Imagine they were having a German beer festival (Oktoberfest) with two large banners advertising Bavaria beer, but when you asked for this beer, you were told that they had none. what a disaster !

Great resort for the money

Had a great time. Nice hotel and great beach. Food most likely normal for Cuba, not the best, but lots of variety. Staff all very nice and helpful. Rooms starting to look their age. Hotel working hard to improve the grounds. No problem returning to this hotel.

Beautiful experience

loved Cuba the beaches and the people and their unconditional love and integrity will go back next year September was too hot will try January. It was quiet and peaceful place did a lot of meditation and yoga will recommend to people to try the ocean. Meditation I came back on Sept 29 and I am missing the water its all inclusive deal was very good and some problems came but they fixed it right away get your room upgrades for 40 pesos worth it and get 5 floor the view is great front or back of th [... read more]e hotel you can see the ocean would highly recommend you go.

It was a horrible hotel

Bad bad bad we where shocked when we arrived at the hotel, we payed for a 4,5 star and got a2 star hotel , we have been in Cuba 11 times and many times to melia las Americas and melia varedero , this hotel was a shame to melia chan !!!!!!!!

Very ordinary resort

Rooms very ordinary. Food : good breakfast, but thank the Lord for pastas and pizzas at lunch and supper. The 3 à la carte restaurants need to improve their menu. The italian resto did not serve pastas or pizzas !!! Beautiful beach & superb water but the resort need to hire staff to clean up the beach ground covered with plastic glasses, plastic straws and cigarette buts all over. Great need of more garbage cans that are already full by lunch time. Entertainment very good from 21:30 to 22:15.

Melia Las Antillas Cuba

Of course, the people of Cuba are so wonderful and make visiting Cuba extra nice. The hotel is a little dated, but I like the style of the big building. (Elevator was a little scary). The outside hallway faced the highway and the room balcony faced the resort (we were on 5th floor). Unlike the small building styles we've been to (3 floors with a hallway thru the middle), Melia was very quiet during the night so we could actually sleep without interruptions such as voices echoing and slamming doo [... read more]rs and no kids. If you want peace, this is the place to go. The room was nice and clean and always had changed sheets and fresh towels and yes, bathrobes. We had a nice reception on the 5th floor with a live band and two young dancers and a 'quiz on Cuba' from the very friendly Manager... such a nice touch. This is our third visit to Cuba and the food was good. The Italian restaurant was really good and the staff are so wonderful. Good value for the money. Wouldn't go again because we want to explore other resorts, but Melia Las Antillas was good and everyone was fantastic and so friendly.

Great resort for couples

If your traveling as a couple, this is the resort. However if your looking to party and the night life, I would not recommended it. The beach was amazing, the rooms were clean, and best of all, the food was amazing for Cuba.

PERFECT Beach!

I'll just start by saying this was my first tropical vacation. The beach was incredible. Any pictures or videos you see of the beach will not do it justice. It was truly perfect. The hotel itself was OK. We had a junior suite on the very first floor and didn't like it at all. Didn't smell too fresh and just looked a little dirty. We ended up upgrading to the VIP package and the new room was ocean view on the 5th floor. Same room layout just much cleaner and nicer. Staff was very nice and friend [... read more]ly. The grounds were nice as well. The pond that extends throughout the grounds didn't smell that great at certain times but for the most part was OK. The pool was fantastic. Night life was also OK. They had a different show every night on the resort around 9:30 and it lasted an hour. After the show we usually sat on the patio and had a few drinks. There was a small "club/disco/bar" on the resort that we usually went to because that's pretty much the only thing going on after 11PM. Excursions. We did the Havana "Special" and Catamaran with Dolphins. The Havana Special was good but LONG. 8AM pickup and didn't get back to the hotel until 3AM. We were actually misinformed about the timing of this trip (we were told 8AM to about 7 PM) but that's another story in itself. We got to see old and new Havana and a bunch of other cool things. Worth it I'd say. Now, Catamaran with Dolphins. YOU. NEED. TO. DO. IT. It was literally like living a dream. If you need to do one, do this one. I'm not even going to get into it. Just go. I promise you'll love it. Lastly, the food. Ugh.. it really wasn't that good in my opinion. They have three restaurants on the resort and none of them were really better than the buffet itself. My girlfriend and I both had upset stomachs for a few days we were there. We met another couple that had similar problems. The food at the resort was the ONLY reason why I was looking forward to finally heading home. I didn't eat anything by day 7.

Good

Good- we were disappointed in the drinks and food. There were a lot of ants in the room. The service wasn't great but we were fortunate enough to find a few servers that we really liked, tipped them well and they took good care of us during our stay.

Love the Cuban People!!!

We had a great time. It did get a bit hot, as it was the end of July. Good was better than I expected, and the staff was great. Our room smelled a bit musky, but, for me, it was no big deal. This really is a 3 star room, but the resort would be 4 Star.

Relaxed Resort

We had a great week at Melia Las Antillas Resort. It was very relax and We had a wonderful time. The standard in the hotel were very high both inside and outside. There were day and night time entertainment. The staffs were very polite and helpful. The food was nice. We especially liked the Italian Restaurant. We thank you Melia Las Antillas to let us have a wonderful time. We would definitely come back in the near future.

First Time to Cuba....

I stayed at this hotel with my sister in law as a girls vacay from May 21st to May 27th and our first impression was great! The resort was large and spacious and very clean. We got to our Junior Suite room with a balcony and the room was the same as the resort, clean and spacious. The following day we both experienced back and neck pain from that hard bed and pillow. Everything else in the buffet was either room temperature or cold! The coffee at the buffet was like dirty water with bits at the bottom of the cup and the milk was watered down. We went back upstairs at the bar for a real cup of coffee...we had "corditas" (espresso with milk) and cappuccinos throughout our stay. They were sooo amazingly good! You must try! The beach was absolutely stunning, looks like a photo with the different shades of blue and no need to get up early for a shaded area as there are lots to choose from. The beach itself was always warm with small waves. We stayed in there all the time. We went on the Jeep Safari and Havana excursions which were different. The Jeep Safari is a must! Snorkling, real Cuban dishes and driving 40miles on a speedboat...Oh, and you get to drive your own Jeep too (if you can handle standard) The Havana excursion was more of a tourist type of trip where we had to stay in a group and follow the tour guide as he pointed out and explained each building...for some people it was great but for us not so much. Oh, and watch your purse and wallet while your there as you get people following you asking for "tip" all the time...Not a great experience at all. Also, make sure you bargain really well at the flea market as they sell the same items all over for same price or cheaper. We also took the double decker tourist bus to downtown Varadero for $5CUC return where we had the most amazing lunch right across from the bank. They had a smoker outside and cooked all the meat, fish and lobster in it and OMG! The absolute best food I had in Cuba! The disco on the resort is pretty pathetic! You actually have to tell the DJ what you want to hear but we went every night and made the best of it! We had a blast! And the drinks are AWESOME!!! they are extremely generous with the alcohol here just drink at your own risk lol The negatives on this trip for us was the lack of great customer service. We had 3 major issues with our room on 3 different occasions and the front desk ladies had a don't care attitude. We had no electricity one day, no water the next and a flood from the leaking a/c unit. Calling the front desk and guest services on multiple occasions with no answer then going down there seeing them just chatting with each other was a huge issue for me. I paid $ to be here and to experience these issues in my room with no care from the workers really was upsetting. Nonetheless, all issues were resolved. For this being my first trip to Cuba I'm not sure what all the fuss is about. I've been to Jamaica, Panama, Trinidad and Tobago, Bahamas and Dominican Republic and I've never had more negative experiences than positives. I wanted to know what the hype was about with Cuba. The last straw for me was the exchange rate...I don't understand how my Canadian dollar was worth only 73 cents (CUC) to me that was ridiculous!!!! Cuba for me has great beaches and drinks! That's it! If you decide to stay at this resort, Keep the drinks coming and Good Luck!

Review

The grounds were very well layed out but some of the paths need work. cracks, missing stone and cement. T he buffet dining area needs proper A/C so it wont have flys and dirt. The line-up to register for the ala-carte is unacceptable.

Excellent vacation destination!

Weather was absolutely incredible. The room was in very good condition, the resort grounds well kept and their was always entertainment to keep everyone active. The night life in Veraderro was worth going into town. We would definitely go back.

Food was lousy

Overall the resort was nice. Beach & ocean outstanding !! Entertainment was great ! Pool area great ! Now for the not so good ... the food was awful, low quality, no variety, same menu daily. Drinks don't expect much... served in small plastic deposable cups. No blender for frozen drinks. No name brand pop (Cuban only). Customer service very poor. I would not recommend Cuba to anyone ... we have been twice over a 17 year period & nothing has changed. Take your Immodium you will need it !! Mexico [... read more] is our go to destination, people friendly, welcoming. Food & drink to North American standards ! We read some raving reviews of this hotel prior to booking, so figured it was a safe bet. Now that we're home, we realize that these rave reviews probably came from first time vacationers who have no other resort to compare to!!!! Save your money people, don't go to Cuba. Mexico or Dominican Republic!!

Had a good time .... Great Beach

Liked the resort and location to Varadero. The Beatles Night Club in Varadero is a most. Rock & Roll all night long and $2 beers. Pool bar may run short of liquor choices at the end of the day. The main restaurant had no air conditioners that worked.

Fun!

The beach is really beautiful, the staff is really friendly, and overall a great resort. No children allowed so it is a relatively older crowd, but great none the less. Food was good especially the fish and pasta. As well as the lobster and the fresh pineapple. Overall a great experience.
