Never go there again

When we got there the room that they gave me was really bad, had lots of bugs smelt really bad, then I asked to be moved to a neither room and charged me 120 us money, food we didn't eat all week, I really believe that they should have given me the room with no cost, really bad hotel, never again, sorry that's how I fell, was not impress at all.

Awesome resort

food ,room , resort, grounds all awesome.. The staff was not very friendly ... they would make more tips if they were friendly... Bed uncomfortable in upgraded room WE WILL BE BACK.. We may save money as we did not leave many tips ;) too rude

Amazing

rooms are comfortable, grounds and pool are lovely, tours are amazing, Havana was interesting got lots of info, catamaran tour was very exciting, time at resort is very pleasant, had a perfect week, will be back

Great time at Kawama

We enjoyed our trip to Kawama very much. We had a standard room that was very small but clean. I was surprised there were no patio doors or terrace/balcony. The food in the buffet was not very good. Same stuff every day. I always ate the meat or fish that was cooked on the grill. We went out to dinner several times to Kiki's, and lie lie's and took advantage of the a la cartes. The grounds and architecture of the older buildings are beautiful. The pool is large with lots of chairs but not enough umbrellas. The beach is great unfortunately it was to rough to swim in very much. Mostly red flag days.

Charming resort!

Note: this is the first time that I have experienced a tropical all-inclusive resort. Overall, my experience was fantastic!!! Club Kawama was very charming with an authentic Cuban feel to it! It was in a very picturesque setting and enjoyed the many attractive outdoor areas on this resort! It felt like paradise!!! And the beach was amazing!!! The room suited our needs. Thankful that there was running, warm water every time it was needed. The toilet and bathtub were clean. And thankful that the [... read more] mattress was clean...and was able to sleep well without a pillow.The pillows and curtains need a good cleaning though. The all-you-can-eat buffet was in a very cosy atmosphere with varying choices of food every single day. The food was mostly cold.. though it seems to be a common complaint at every resort in Cuba...regardless of the star rating. Everyone there was doing their best to make our experience satisfying. The hotel staff did their best to make our stay enjoyable. Everyone was good to us there...from the moment that we arrived until the day of departure! Appreciated everyone's good efforts at Hotel Kawama for us to experience a fantastic first-time to Cuba!!! In the future, when I will consider another vacation to Cuba, I will return to this resort in a heart beat!!

Poor

Pool and beach was ok but room was dirty and old. Service was poor no smile. Never have change. Show was good when done by exterior group. Did not explaine how restaurant reservation work and all service at arrival..............................................

Terrible Food!

Pool & beach were excellent; food was terrible and the layout of the buffet was awful. The line-up to the grill blocked other areas of the buffet so people were shoving all the time. If the food improved, we would love to go back to Kawama as we enjoyed the social aspect otherwise I'm not so sure. We paid for two superior rooms - one had pool view but had to share balcony with strangers and one had canal view but no ocean view even though we booked the first of January. Also requested adjoining  [... read more]rooms (for our children) but did not receive them which was inconvenient even though the rooms were everywhere on the resort. There were many Cubans using the resort (no bracelets) and they were rowdy in the pool and obnoxious at the buffet. Loved the relaxed atmosphere of the resort.

Great Trip

We had a great experience at Club Kawama, the resort itself is older but very clean and the staff are very friendly. The food was good, air conditioning great and lots of hot water. The beaches are stunning and lots to do.

Well worth the cost

Pleasantly surprised by the overall resort. Beautiful beach,,,best in Cuba for sure and the pool area was quite nice. Yes the rooms were just ok,,,but are you going for the room. The buffet was...a buffet,,,,and any buffet gets a bit stale after 10 or 15 visits,,,but i am very picky and i was able to find enough to eat with no problem. Every place has someone who seems miserable,,,but we had a 6 year old with us and by midweek the restaurant staff were inviting us to sit in there area. Party Resort

Loved the people, everyone went out of the way to meet you.. The rooms were standard, the food basic but facilities were good. If I were to make changes it would be to upgrade rooms to have a patio on lower level, improve the food and have an Animation Team to have the guests be involved with games/events and participation activities. Great price and would recommend this resort.

We'd go again, but.....

Club Kawama is a really nice resort .. clean, great layout, nice restaurant and bar staff and chamber maids... excellent food, great entertainment!.... receptionists are a little off putting and reluctant to help, but in the end all was well. We were put in a room with 2 single beds and had a hard time changing to a room for a couple. We would go back again but only if we could book a superior room. It would have made a much better experience with an ocean view and a balcony.

Home Away from Home 😄

This was our 5th trip to Club Kawama. As soon as we step off the bus we are treated like family. We were able to get the room we requested. Over the years I have seen many improvements. It's a great location. Minutes to downtown. We were there from April 5 to April 13 and I am already planning my next trip to Club Kawama

First and last time in Club Kawama, Varadero

The hotel was very run down but our second room was clean although one of three lights was not working; fridge not working; and pillows were as flat as worn folded towels. We had paid for a Superior room but were first assigned a room was not in that category. On 3rd day got a new room since they lost the request made on first day. We only ever saw one gardener or outside maintenance worker...too much property to look after...untidy grounds and garbage..Even pool in mornings was littered with [... read more] plastic glasses. All the workers were lovely except one. Food was fine. The beach was beautiful but not maintained; often drinking straws, plastic glasses and cigarette butts everywhere..A small garbage can appeared on day 5 but that was not enough. We had to pay for bottled of water...first time ever in Cuba that it was not in fridge on a daily basis. Also had to pay 22 pesos for safe in room...absolutely ridiculous. No map of resort so after arriving at midnight we had no idea of layout the next morning. No beer served at beach bar or in lobby bar..dark ages. 3 mornings the lobby bar which had only 7 tables had no water for coffee. Poor layout of resort... . .No musical entertainment until day 7, 8 and 9. Such a disappointing resort but we lived on the beach. .. We did have electricity the whole 10 days and lots of hot water...unlike some people at other resorts. Every day we had an oil smell in our room from an oil refinery not too far away...very unpleasant. Confusion and chaos at Varadero airport...while checking in for flight.

Club Kawama

Fantastic pool, accommodations poor ( room had an unpleasant smell, and shabby), food was iffy (actually was sick to stomach on airplane during trip home) (pasta at every meal, food if heated was barely warm, and by the time you got back to the table, it was cold). Staff very friendly, and to tell the truth, the only thing I am missing is the pool. Would not recommend Club Kawama to anyone!!!!

Great resort!

My third time to this smaller, friendly resort. Staff are nice and helpful. Grounds are well kept and they are improving each year. Food was ok at the buffet. Not as good as previous years. A la cartes were great. Upgrade your room for a more pleasant experience, although there is lots of hot water.

Good resort

Service is good. Hope the room Phone can work I wish the staff can clean the seegrasses on the beach I had two days no hot water shower and the room phone was not working The beach is very nice but need the cleaner clean the seegrasses will be better The food is good

Good for the cheap price

Me, my husband and 7 month old baby visited Kawama last week. We were happy our room was close to everything since we have a baby but my moms and others were far away from the lobby, pool, main buffet...it's a pretty big resort. Everything was ok but there was no kid pool with warm water, no pool bar, not enough service (waitresses/waiters), not enough activities organized throughout the day. ONly one snack bar and beer stand....always waiting in line. THe night entertainment was great and food  [... read more]was really good as well. THe beach was really nice and we were the closest hotel to town and always first and last to get picked up/dropped off.

Repeat visit

We have been to this resort several times before we are able to see changes. There have been many improvements since our last visit. Our room was much cleaner than other times, the bedding and towels as white as snow. The walking paths have far better lighting and there are more nooks to sit and chat as well as towels for the beach readily available. Most beach loungers were new and undamaged. It has never been fine dining but this year there was much less variety than other years. Beans, rice, lentils, chickpeas, salads and pasta over and over and over again. Another disappointment is that as repeat guests, we were not upgraded. We had sent a room request a month prior to our trip and would have gladly paid to upgrade if someone had responded and told us it would be required. We got no response to our request so were very disappointed when we arrived to rooms next to the street and upgrades were not available at that point. As repeat guests, it would have been nice to have gotten a reply to our request at least. Not sure if any of us will ever go back

Great value for your money!

Kawama is the oldest hotel in Varadero, Fidel Castro and Jean Paul Sartre have visited there. The first time I went was 39 years ago. I have been 8 times. The grounds are lovely, so many huge old trees, and some of the buildings are 85 years old. None of the buildings are taller than two stories, and there are so many places to go for a walk while staying on the resort, we also walk in to the town of Varadero to visit the markets. The beach is lovely, the pools are good, the staff are friend [... read more]ly and helpful. Cuban food is not the greatest, but it is fine with my family. The rooms are not luxurious, but are clean. Each time we go to Kawama we meet folks who have returned many times.

Pleasantly surprised

Resort was lovely, superior room was great, food was good, pool and beach wonderful. Some tweeking needed in all areas, and priced accordingly. Would recommend. Nice to getaway from the snow and cold for a week.
