Great resort for golf and fun

Had a great time. It was our first time there and was quite surprised with all. It is older resort but gave us all we wanted. While we were there minor touch ups we're happening . Staff very nice,room clean. We plan to return to play some more golf. .

Melia Las Americas is First Class

We do not want to write a glowing review for fear that we will not find a vacancy next time! But the resort is beautiful, pristine and simply first class. The Dupont Golf course next door is perfect for all levels of ability to play the game. The Zanadu hotel has an excellent restaurant and a view of the eighteenth finishing 18th golf hole. OUR AMAZING STAY AT MELIA LAS AMERICAS IN VARADERO

Paradise on earth, we found it at Melia Las Americas. We were there for 2 weeks. Back to Toronto on Dec 25 at midnight, with Sunwing. We were in a large bungalow- junior suite, near the beach, close to the pool. The resort has a lot of stairs. We enjoyed swimming in the pool every morning before breakfast and swimming in the beach at noon. The last few days, the waves were quite strong. The lobby is non smoking, large size, nice furniture. The group's name is A Tempo Classico (you can view them on YouTube). The main buffet restaurant was air conditioned. Nice assortment of food, from good to very good. Maybelin, Betty, Mercedes, Jose, Emelito, Mercy, Hernan and Baldin were our favorite waiters. The International restaurant is a must. A group of professional violinists and a cellist played classic, operatic and modern music. A la carte booking clerk Angela was very helpful and nice. The Christmas Eve celebration was superb. A magnificent show in the lobby, with 6 very talented operatic singers from A Tempo Classico together with a group of violinists, flute and violoncello. At dinner, a 6 out of 5 stars selection of food.. Most of the nights, we went dancing at Bar LA CASCADA were Bianka and Giancarlo, remarkable singers with amazing voices were singing Rumbas, Cha-cha, , Foxtrot, Salsa, etc.. The general manager, Bernard, very friendly and always came to say hello. He looks like Richard Gere. We are not golfers, but we enjoyed every morning a walk around the main entrance of the golf course, where one get the most spectacular view of the beach, the hotel, and the Dupont / Xanadu House. There is a sitting smoking area outside the lobby, with tables and chairs, with the most beautiful view of the beach and the ocean. Being allergic to cigarette smoking, we did not have the pleasure to enjoy it. The weather was excellent, raining only one afternoon. No mosquitoes. We took the bus twice to Varadero. Old antique American cars which are operating as Taxis,. No anti-pollution devices. We took the bus for a day tour to Havana. We would love to go back to Melia las Americas.

Beautiful Hotel in Varadero

We had fantastic holiday in this hotel. Lobby is impressive , nicely decorated and always very clean. Beautiful beach is in a short walking distance.! Lots of sun beds and umbrellas and again very clean. Music, snacks, drinks , dance lessons, all kind of sports and entertainment. White sandy beach with the turquoise water , absolutely amazing! Not always we [... read more] had coffee and drinks in the room,. Clean and nice bathrooms. Food and restaurants were very good! Kind and lovely staff around all the time! Unlimited drinks and nice entertainment! Flight was very long, both ways delayed, very narrow seats .

Amazing resort

The Hotel is one of the best all inclusive hotels I have stayed in anywhere in the world pesently surprised by the quality of the food. Drinks served in glasses not cups 24 hour bar Even though we stayed the week Castro died when we had no music or entertainment for 4 days we amused our selves we were a group of 17 guys Golfing we had so much fun. Darts, table tennis ,volleyball TV had English channels and fox sports mls we watched toronto v Montreal. You could find a short cut to the beach from most rooms even though we were a long walk to main hotel entrance but worth it. A

Nice resort!

This' my fourth time to Cuba, this' by far the best resort that we have stayed, everything 's good except for the entertainment part. Best beach ever, it's really closed to the resort. Our room located on the first floor which was very convenient to the lobby and the restaurants as we can just walk to our room without waiting for the elevator. The young gentleman who was responsible for the grill section was fabulous, always asked if we needed more food. Fresh fish and shrimps everyday! Lounge a [... read more]rea was nice with AC. Location is perfect as it's closed to the plaza. We paid a little more this time but it's well worth it. I would definitely go back to this resort again.

We fell in love with Cuba and with Hotel Melia Las Americas

We were in awe from the moment we entered the lobby. Great hotel, service, activities and food! The beach is breathtaking! We were pleasantly surprised by the food. This was our first visit to Cuba, and we had heard so many bad comments. We actually had a few very pleasant meals in the speciality restaurants.

Our First Visit... And Hopefully Not Our Last

Our first trip to Cuba turned out wonderful! We were impressed with the hotel as soon as we walked in, and were very pleasantly surprised when we saw our room. We has heard so many bad comments regarding the food quality in Cuba, but the food at the Melia Las Americas was perfectly acceptable. We actually had a few delicious meals in the speciality restaurants.

NEVER DISAPPOINTS

Always glad to return to the Melia Las Americas. It is our 'go to' place for rest and renewal. Mr. Meyers, the 'boss' is a fine gentleman, ever present, ever pleasant and available to chat. Raphael, the banquet manager, is a low-keyed, professional, keeping his eyes on what's going on. There are many 'veteran' staff that we have known many years. A top notch resort

Good quality food. Our room was clean and we loved the sautéed shrimp offered at the swim up bar in the bungalow section of the resort. The one server whose name I believe was Mercedes provided excellent service. We loved the beach and the location to the golf course was perfect.

A great golf trip!

We (eight guys) recently spent a week at Melias Las Americas for a golf vacation. It was out first trip to Cuba and we had a terrific time! The staff at the resort were great, particularly Ozladys (sp?) and Alberto at the swim up bar! We played the golf course on seven consecutive days and really enjoyed it. The fairways were firm and provided a good roll, the wind made everything challenging and hole 16 lived up to its reputation. Golf fanatic's hotel

Beautiful inside and outside, nice patios, great views, helpful staff, incredible magician, short stroll to the pro shop, unlimited golf awesome, beach has lots of chairs and great staff. Pick me up drink is my favorite!

Beautiful Resort

Rooms were incredible! Loved the layout of the resort. Everything was very easy to access and close to the water. Food could have been better but all in all amazing trip! Would definitely recommend !!!

Melia Las Amazing !

Melia Las Americas is a great place to stay! Food is top notch ! Drinks, staff all excellent. If your playing golf in Varadero MLA is the place to stay ......1 minute walk to the pro shop, they'll have your bags on the cart when you get there . Rooms are good, great views ocean or golf course. There is no down side to MLA.

Things have slipped.

This is our third year in a row at this resort. The hotel grounds, facilities, etc. are constantly being updated. The General Manager is very visible. The staff are friendly. However, there was no recognition at reception that we were returning guests, nor that we were celebrating our anniversary. Further, the food quality had deteriorated from previous visits and the house wine has become undrinkable.

Love the Resort especially the Golf

Totally met our expectations. Our group of 8 guys enjoyed the very challenging course as the winds and multiple tee boxes made this course play differently for our 8 rounds in 7 days. Fairways and greens and rough were well maintained while you had to be a good sand player to overcome the rough sand traps. Service is exceptional at all amenities. Buffet had many varieties of food to more than satisfy. Specialty dining is good for Cuban standards, but acceptable for international standards.....th [... read more]ey do well with what they have (bring your own Wasabi and you'll gain lots of friends). The international restaurant Arcade was the ultimate, fine dining, 5 piece ensemble white glove service, exquisite plating and a very romantic setting to take your love one! Beer is good throughout, alcohol basics are good but the base wine is Very marginal for anyone who enjoys good wines. Suggest you grab a couple of $10 bottles at Duty Free at home. Tips (as r trinkets from home)for staff are much appreciated and well earned. Beach and pools were nice with adequate loungers with shade umbrellas for all without hoarding. Lots of organized beach activity if desired. Water was very rough (MARCH) every day (no snorkelling) and closed beach for 3 days w jellyfish. Trip into Varadero was easy and fun by old US style taxi.,cheap in a group. Only wish we did Havana. Currency exchange can be done at hotel as rate is similar whether at airport bank or hotel. Overall I would rate this as 4.0 -4.5 international stars and consider a revisit with my wife.

Wonderful experience

Overall we had a great experience at this hotel. Although the building looked a little worn down from the outside, the inside was beautifuly finished with marble floors, wood details and concrete walls; the grounds were well maintained. The rooms were very clean but room service was very slow. Front desk staff was helpful. I must admit that the food was excellent. The servers in the main buffet were awesome at keeping the tables clean and our beverages replenished. 4 A la carte restaurantes was a bonus. We missed swimming in a warm enough pool. We spent more time at the lower pool with the grill and swim up bar which was was a little warmer.

Great golfing, food and beach

Nice resort! Positives are the beach, food and golf. Negatives are ...the pools are not heated, water is cool and refreshing but you can't stay in long, 2 beds rather than one king or queen, the older, quiet and somewhat snobby guests (too many of them for my liking), the lack of fresh juices i. e. orange and tomato, same for the drinks, no fresh bananas to make drinks, no Crystal beer on resort only Buchanero which is a strong beer so we had to buy Crystal at the Plaza and lastly...the service. [... read more] I was expecting friendly top notch service but that was not the case. Some of the hotel workers like Roberto and Julio (entertainment) and Manuela (breakfast buffet) went out of their way but in general service was below par even with tips. Seems like tipping did not matter much at all.

Excellent resort, great people, great food

Melia Los Americas was amazing, clean, great staff, beautifully kept grounds, would recommend this resort to my friends. Varadero golf course was also very beautiful and we'll maintained as well along with great scenery
