Almost great!

We enjoyed our stay at the Sol Palmeras. Our room was clean and comfortable, the housekeeping was good, we felt safe and the beach was clean with good sand. The food on the buffet was good with a great fish grill. We had onl went to the steak house and Mexican ala carte. The steak was good but we left without finishing our meal in the Mexican resort. We enjoyed the lounge entertainment but for us the sound was too loud with a poor sound system for the other nightly shows. Some toasters that work [... read more]ed and making sure all hot dishes are hot would raise the buffet another notch. We would stay here again if going to Varadero..

Fantastic fun-filled trip

The pools & beach well kept, grounds well groomed, common areas kept clean. The lobby and main building nicely decorated, well equipped gym. Fantastic staff, high quality entertainment. Great food, especially the Italian restaurant. Area of improvement: most nights ran out of wine and champagne at all bars.

Amazing Resort

I had an amazing week at this resort. The food was fantastic and the staff was amazing. It is also very close to downtown Varadero where you can spend time with the very friendly locals. I would recommend this resort to anyone!!!!

Such a Great Experience!

On my 6th, and my wife's 3rd visit to Cuba in different resorts, an amazing holiday at Sol Palmeras. Great bungalow, great buffet La Panchita, with diverse food offers and exceptional table service (thank you Evian, Mabel, Yunislady and Rosita!). The lobby bar Cubitas, with tasty cocktails and entertaining bar waiters (thank you Rene, and all others I didn't get their names!). Great cleaning service, everyone is doing their best to accomodate your needs in this resort! Don't forget to tip worker [... read more]s there: they are doing a great job to accomodate your needs, and without conditioning the service pending a tip, like in some other resorts... But, from far - thanks to Dayana - the Customer Service of the resort was BEYOND the expectation! She was so extremely efficient, while being away, leaving clear instructions to her colleagues about our accomodation. In our opinion she is a great asset for Sol Palmeras. Thank you, Dayana, and also thanks everyone at Sol Palmeras, for making our holiday a great one. The only downside was the high level of noise in the main lobby, and in the buffet restaurant. I'm sure we are not the first one bringing that to the table, and I'm also confident that the management is doing something about it. For sure, next year, we will be back to this resort! Always a Great Time

First time at this resort food was okay in buffet but definately recommend booking reservations at one of their many fine resturants. (Steak house and Mexican was my fave!). The staff were amazing like most Cuban resorts! The rooms were kept clean very clean and my girlfriend and myself enjoyed how the maid would come up with something new every day with the towels. Great Resort

The hotel was wonderful. My husband and I were always concerned about travelling to Cuba because we have always heard that the food was terrible. Well we beg to differ. If you cant find something to eat at this resort then I would say that you are way to fussy. There wasn't a meal that we could complain about. The a la carts were great as well. We did the Chinese and Italian. I would go back to this resort any time as well as recommend it to anyone.

Fantastic resort!!

The grounds were immaculate & so well cared for. . The rooms very clean, spacious & food was excellent ` a very good variety. ! The staff were very friendly & attentive to our needs. I would definitely go there again.

Wonderful resort!

This was our first time in Cuba and all-inclusive resort and our experience exceeded our expectations! We stayed in Sol Palmeras from October 29 to November 8 and it's an amazing hotel! It is very clean and well maintained. The area around the building is beautiful and the beach is just about 100 meters away. The resort is quite big, including 5 zones of bungalows, but mostly along the sea shore. We stayed in a main building and we prefer that, because everything (restaurants, customer service,  [... read more]bars) is close and yet, no noise from the lobby or bars could be heard in the rooms. Our hotel room was excellent! It was very clean, spacious, with all necessities inside (iron, blow dryer, A/C, etc.). Everything was functional. The balcony was huge with a set of chairs and side table. We were amazed with how maids were maintaining it. If you wish, they would come in everyday, to replace the sheets (they don't do that in Canada) and towels and clean it. The nice touch is swans and other patterns they make out of towels. The beach is paradise: beautiful white sand, warm sea, not deep, which is great because we went with a six-year-old. It's kept clean and there were always available beach loungers and sun umbrellas. Food was excellent! There are 6 different restaurants in this resort, plus the bar on the beach, where we had great hamburgers, fries and salads. One restaurant is a buffet with more than plenty of choices for every meal and five are à la carte featuring: Italian, Mexican, sea food, steak house and Chinese. We tried them all and they're all good, but we liked the Italian restaurant the best (personal choice). I know that many people complaint about food in Cuba, but I cannot give an explanation for that. I would just like to say that their meat: chicken, beef, pork, lamb, no matter how prepared, is the best meat I've ever eaten (I'm very picky when it comes to meat). It tastes natural and I'm quite sure it's all organic. Kudos to all chefs! WiFi is available in designated area and it costs 4.5 CUC per hour, which is $6 CAD. It is very fast and efficient. There's lots of entertainment in the resort, for everybody. There is a Mini Club for children, where you can leave them for hour and a half in the morning and afternoon. They do all sorts of activities with them, mostly around the pool. Last but not least, nay probably the most important and valuable asset Cuba has is people! Cubans are so nice, warm and welcoming that it left a great impression on us. Staff at Sol Palmeras really impressed us! We felt like we were good friends, visiting regularly. I am sorry I can't remember all the names (I should've written down), but I will mention those whose names are still in my mind. Our maid Yuleidy is the sweetest lady we've ever met. She kept our room impeccable. Staff at the buffet restaurant are all so nice, smiling and welcoming; we loved going there and chatting with them. They keep a good care of their guests and I would like to mention our regular servers: Humberto, Yuleidis and Rosita. Ariadne from the Mini Club is another wonderful soul. Right from the first contact with her I felt like I've known her for my whole life. She is doing a great job with kids and is very caring and gentle. Madeline (an ice cream lady) and Alexis (beach tower rentals) were super friendly and wonderful! Osvaldo (from the beach) and Manueal (the gardener) were also doing a great job! Receptionist Yani gave us an excellent room on the second floor, facing the pool and didn't let us wait to check in as we were very tired. I would also like to praise all lobby bar personnel who were making us coffee and the best cocktails in the world! Thank you all guys! Big thanks to all the wonderful Sol Palmeras staff who made our stay there nicer and better than we could imagine! We had an incredible time at Sol Palmeras and certainly hope to go back many times. We would highly recommend this resort to everyone!

Nice resort!

I would recomend this hotel, as it has really nice beach, entertainment is great, food was average but good, hotel is clean and staff is very nice. The resort is very good for kids, a lots of variety of games.

Sol Palmeras

All i can say is check before you book this hotel as there is some refurbishment work going on until next year, but do not let this put you off as you can get away from it during the day by going on the beach or trips out, Cuba is an unspoilt country!

Perfect vacation

The property is very well kept. The beach was very clean and there was plenty of seats! The food was the best I've had at any resort in Cuba and the staff was extremely kind and helpful! I would recommend this resort to anyone considering visiting Cuba!

Adequate but didn't quite meet expectations

For a 4 star resort we were looking for a little more than we got. Our room was in a wing of the main hotel. We thought the food could have been better tasting in both the buffet and the restaurants. Short on restaurant servers at times. And the facilities are showing age. That said it was an adequate stay and we might be willing to give it another try. The facility options were decent, the grounds kept well, and the room attendants were very good. It was nice to be right on the beach.

Amazing resort

We had a really good time lots to do beautiful beach the people and workers were amazing the girls that cleaned our room were so nice and helpful the entertainment were amazing so much to do in the evening nice to relax and have a few drinks and just talk

Decent resort

Decent resort, but it's the service that made the trip...Weather wasn't great in Oct., but still relaxing. Italian restaurant for a la carte is a must; incredible food! Lots of activities to keep busy.

Amazing resort

3rd time to Sol Palmeras..... Love the hotel and the people that work there. If you are going there to look at all the tiny things that may be wrong.. cracked tile, bug on floor then stay home, no where is perfect.. The food is great, lots of selection and amazing grills with different meats and fish every day for dinner. Lots of different shows and activites at night to keep everyone involved. Price is great and worth the visit.

Amazing resort!

This hotel was beautiful, the grouds well kept, lovely beach, lots of activties durning the day and at night. Clean rooms, amazing food, the stuff were very friendly and helpful. Amazing first trip!!!

Strong stomachs only

The grounds, pools and beach are absolutely lovely. The mezzanine area where people gather to enjoy the AC, have a drink, meet up with friends, also very nice. The rooms are .... okay. A bit musty smelling but that's normal this far south. There are two reasons I won't return to Sol Palmeras. First, the food/water. You couldn't get a hot cup of coffee! I would pour it out of the machine and then nuke it in the dining hall before drinking. Even though the variety of foods offered was quite good b [... read more]oth my Mom and I ended up suffering from diarrhea by day 3 and for about 3 weeks back at home. The second reason is a bit more difficult to communicate but it has to do with the general unhappiness of the staff. These are not people who have chosen to work in the tourism industry! I saw a lot of surly, almost scary looks on waiter's faces. Not nice! One of our maids decided by half way through our stay that she should have my Aerosole sandals. She was relentless until I promised to leave them for her and then she reminded me twice a day until I left that I had promised her! I felt oppressed by their oppression. I save for a long time to go on a holiday so it won't be Cuba at all in future. It'll be anywhere else, where the people who are working at my resort want to be working there and where the water and food don't make me sick. I also prefer not to go through their airport security ever again in my lifetime. Yuck! Certainly not conducive to the holiday spirit! Sorry Cuba and Sol Palmeras. You won't see me again! And, I won't be recommending this part of the world to anyone trying to decide where to go on their next holiday.
