Amazing Beach, Great Service

The beach and service were excellent. If you picked the right foods, the food was great. The house red wine was excellent and the mixed drinks were not too sweet. The beach restaurant was excellent. As we seen on our first trip to Cuba, the hotel needs a little work. Water pressure was low and if you wanted hot water, it was best to shower in the afternoon. It was fun fishing off and swimming around the boardwalk but the boardwalk really needs repair. We also traveled to Pillar beach, and we would visit this beach again if we every return to the area.

Amazing resort and gorgeous beach!

The lobby was the first thing we saw and it was very nice and the people at the desk were very understanding and friendly. Nice first impression. I also loved the way the resort was laid out. The pool in the centre with small bridges breaking it up into two instead of one big pool. Everything was close once in the centre of the resort. The rooms were large and clean but a little tired. It sat by the lagoon which was made for a great setting for the building. The weather was great and we met some really nice Canadians.

Lovely resort

This resort has something for everyone. A variety of intimate sitting areas, hammocks, gliders and outdoor couches. Plus many areas to sit in groups. It has a nice flow, from beach to pool to lobby bar. The grounds are lovely with many ponds. The beach is the resort's crowning glory. It is well maintained, with the seaweed being picked up everyday after high tide. The pier (which needs work) is cool and provides fishing for those iinterested. We love the music and this resort had classical guitarists, a grand piano in the lobby played in the evenings. A variety of Cuban singers and of course the nightly show. These performers are professionals and take pride in their craft. The food was very good. The Italian and international a la cart both had delicious well prepared food. I will say the resort could use some TLC. Hopefully they will put some funds into its upkeep. Great holiday had by our family (mom, dad and 23 year old daughter) And once again the Cuban workers are so friendly and welcoming.

5th visit at MCG

Our week at the MCG was wonderful. We beached, fished the pier, fished the big bridge, recorded 70+ species of Birds, rode horse back through lagoon & along the beach, swam, walked the beach, enjoyed the food...best in five visits, enjoyed the early evening entertainment. Our 3rd floor room was very clean, had hot water, toiletries, toilet paper, drinking water & pop replaced daily. Buildings need maintenance... paint, fix doors, replace light bulbs, repair parts of wharf, and wooden structures. [... read more] Staff is extremely friendly, hard working, extended our room checkout time and supported us when our flight was delayed. Even though this Resort is tired & worn...it is still the best place to relax and enjoy the beauty of Cuba.

Melia Cayo Guillermo Cuba Very Nice Resort

The grounds of the resort are lovely. The beach is outstanding and the people working at the hotel are wonderful...friendly,hard working, helpful and willing to go the extra mile. Transportation from the airport, and check in went quite smoothly. The food is good and there is a fairly good variety. The evening entertainment was very good. We were very impressed with Daniel, an outstanding guitarist, who put us in mind of Jesse Cook. Draw backs were the rooms were somewhat tired and need a little [... read more] sprucing up and they could use some more deck chairs around the pool and down on the beach. This is a quiet resort that provides a truly relaxing holiday. We enjoyed our time and would consider making a return visit.

Relaxation in Cayo Coco

Great place to go and relax. Clean hotel and well manicured grounds. Staff are beyond freindly and helpful to make your vacation a pleasure. The beach is one of the most beautifuil beaches I have travelled to.

Wonderful experience

We enjoyed this resort and would be happy to return one day. The beach is very beautiful, as expected. The resort was very comfortable although slightly dated. The grounds were well kept and mostly clean. There is a lack of garbage containers. The staff was very friendly and go out of their way to please. The food was satisfactory although not varied enough outside of the buffet.Overall we had a wonderful experience and thank all those who made it special.

Amazing does not do justice!!

Amazing hotel with amazing people. Well worth the money. Will definitely be returning. Food was great had so much to choose from. Room was just like out of magazine. Definitely recommend! Staff is worth visit alone.

A Real Jewel!

Small Resort of 300 rooms! Very cozy, warm & inviting! Close to everything! Food is delicious, large variety! Pizza, pasta, chicken, beef, pork, many choices of sides! Desserts are out of this world! Very clean! Warm & friendly staff! Great entertainment! Beautiful beach, pool, bars!

Very nice resort!

We stayed in this resort for the week of Chtistmas. We liked everything about this resort. Very clean and organised. Very good entertainment specially for kids. Food was good and fresh with lots of variety.

Entertainment team are outstanding. Resort is a nice size. Beach is beautiful. Staff are wonderful. Food is good. Great variety. Resort could do with some repairs/updating but does not affect the holiday.

Great Beach and ocean

Great Beach and Ocean. Great staff and entertainment team! Good value for the money. Food at the restaurants could be improved, since buffer is better option. Great resort for kids as well as the kids clubs is superb and shows in the evenings are just spectacular!

2nd visit!!

All in all the resort is fantastic. Beautiful beach, nice grounds, comfortable room and of course wonderful staff through and through. Other than some minor maintenace and upkeep, it's still a great place and definitely great bang for your buck

Exceeded expectations

This was our first trip to Cuba -- glad we kicked things off with a resort that exceeded expectations. Excellent ratio of staff to guests; the standard of service was very high, and no request seemed to go unfulfilled (though to be fair, we're not very demanding guests). The location is excellent, provided you're not expecting night life or shopping, since Cayo Guillermo is quite isolated. Even the inshore snorkeling is pretty good -- warm, crystal clear, and shallow -- and I spent hours each day in the water and couldn't have been happier. Food was also better than expected; regular guests told us the food has improved significantly in the last several months, and we were certainly quite satisfied. The a la carte restaurants weren't qualitatively very different from the buffet, though the formal dining experience was a nice change of pace. Great stay overall!

A week in the sun!

we could not have ordered better weather than what we had the week of Oct 15th! The resort is small and needs a little bit of a face lift but the staff as always were amazing and we met some lovely people during our 1 week vacation. The food was ok - the buffet seemed to be more popular that the al la carte's. All Inclusive but you have to buy certain wines and beer but the price wasnt too costly. We ordered a few bottles of wine during the week and sipped several corona (1 CUC each) during the  [... read more]week. The biggest problem was my husband and many others were covered with bites that they could not stop scratching!!! A trip to Pilar beach was only a 5 cuc bus ride away and well worth it - Pilar beach was beautiful and we spent a day there relaxing in the sun on the white sand beach. You also have the option of getting day passes to check out other Melia resorts - we didnt do this but some couple we talked to did and raved about the Melia Cayo Coco!!

Go for the Beach

Family and I have been to this resort many times since it has opened. Just got back on Saturday, have not been to this resort in six years. The resort is getting tired but still has the charm and staff that kept us coming back. Beach is beautiful, I prefer it over Pilar which is so crowded. Rooms are spacious, but again a little tired. 25th Wedding Anniversary

If you have ever been to Cuba then you know your don't go for the cuisine but more for the beautiful beaches and a worry free week or two. My husband chose Melia to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary and what a riot we had. Like most hotels in Cuba, the Melia is dated but all of your basic needs are met. I have never traveled there in October and didn't think to bring bug spray. Antihistamine or allergy pills are a must along with some anti-itch cream. Other than that, this is our new favourite Cuba destination...honestly, the beach is heavenly.

Rooms were horrible!

Just returned after a 1 week vacation in September 2014. We were extremely disappointed with the hotel. The grounds were lovely and well kept for the most part. The servers and entertainment staff worked really hard… The beach was nice…but the rooms were just horrible. Our room was nothing close to a 2 star…. : upon arrival… at the first set of rooms they gave us… this is what we encountered ants on the counter by the coffee maker stained bedspread - patio door that would not lock (mec [... read more]hanism was broken- cement chunks of wall missing- stained - worn out towels- broken head board- rusted refrigerator - did not work- vanity mirror that was partially pealed from the wall- sticky dirty bathroom counters- My expectations are never high when we go to Cuba…but this was beyond anything I was able to deem acceptable. I have never complained about a hotel before… this is a first. I had a hard time staying there - couldn't wait to come home. When we asked them to switch us… they asked us to wait to the following day… only to move us to rooms that were only marginally better. My dad's room did not have black out curtains (standard for all other rooms) and while I complained several times that he should have the curtains for privacy , etc.. they did nothing about it. We eventually gave up… and made the best of our vacation. This was a most disappointing vacation …

Best resort ever!

I love this resort! From the time we arrived until the day we left, the staff was so friendly and the service was excellent. The resort is well kept and the beach is stunning. There is great snorkelling under the pier and lunch at the lobster shack is a must!

Had to go back

Returned to this resort within 4 months .A t 10 am the water was warm .That being so plan when the tide is high at 10am .that is a huge advatage .The food was good though a variety could be of a advantage. The staff was always friendly .Anf if you like fishing this the place. I plan to return March next year
