Not a 4 Star

This place is o.k. if you need a quick get away and are not fussy about quality of service, rooms and food. The cons: customer service at the front desk is limited and actually rude; staff in 24 hour snack bar were not attentive and seemed to only focus on certain guest; rooms are o.k. very basic; be picky with the food (got sick and was very particular). The pros: lobby bar is wonderful, staff in main dinning area including wait staff and cooks are very attentive, pool and beach bar a [... read more]re both good, beach is beautiful, while food was a concern the omelettes, fish when cooked well were good, desserts were a real treat.

Fourth visit to this resort. I still find it the best value.

Having stayed at several resorts in Cuba, I find Playa Costa Verde to be the best value. Excellent service, friendly staff, relatively quiet resort, snorkeling straight from the beach. The lagoon near the beach is a nice touch of nature with numerous species of birds. If you want a high end resort, I recommend nearby Paradius De Oro. Tip: For fast and attentive service, try getting your drinks in the evening at the Cigar Lounge.

Good value for your money

An older small resort. Nice grounds. Helpful front desk. Beach area is not wide but plenty of chairs and umbrellas. Lots oif water sports nice pool areas. Nice front lobby area with lots of tables and chairs and 24 hour bar with an excellent coffee machine . Japanese restaurant is wonderful. Otherwise the buffet has lots of choice. Cuban restaurant js right off beach and is open at lunch . Rooms are very basic but water pressure is good.

Playa Costa Verde

Rooms were large and clean but old. We had issues with the electricity in our room and it also went out a couple times over the resort while we were there. We were able to switch rooms the second day but we had to visit front desk numerous times before they agreed to move us. Pools were nice for kids with shallow areas in the main pool so we didn't have to hang out at the kids pool all week. Definitely lots of missing tiles in the pool which I had read in the other reviews. They were making some [... read more] repairs while we were there but had lots of tiles to replace. Food was fine, its Cuba! But they didn't have orange juice for breakfast all week. The water to our room smelled really bad if you ran the tap. We think they were serving tap water at buffet and made coffee with same water. I usually love the coffee but couldn't drink it all week because, to me, it tasted the same as it smelt running the water in our room. My youngest (3 yrs) was ill the second night we got there and through most of the trip. I think it was the water from the buffet. But we tipped the guy who delivered water to the buildings for the maids and he gave us cases of water. So we brought bottles with us everywhere the rest of the trip. I didn't care for the beach. Definitely had better vacations at other Cuban resorts.

Pretty Good

This resort offered good food and a friendly wait staff. The room was very clean and was looked after daily. The beach was okay as there is a lot of coral that you need to swim/walk over before getting to the san of the beach. It was still good. there was no problem getting beach chairs and the beach was never packed. I wouldn't return simply for the fact that I always change resorts for variety.

Great vacation

This was our tenth time back to P.V.C., we have seen many upgrades to the resort. Rooms have been refreshed, new mattresses. The grounds are still well taken care of. Upgrades to the Lobby bar, and pool bar. The buffet is still very good, some days could be better. Always something to eat, sometimes you have to stand in line at the cooking stations but well worth the wait. Recommend water shoes for entering the ocean, sand from storms have exposed coral. Great resort

Grounds very nice pool great but had some missing tiles. Rooms very comfortable. Food was so so but it’s Cuba. People alway complaint but it is a 3rd world country. We feel very safe there. Weather has always been great

Tired Family Resort

Our pool view room was nice and very clean. However, several people had rooms with bedbug issues. The hotel made attempts to remedy this although some resolutions required paying for an upgrade as those were the only rooms available. Food was plentiful but lacking in quality . A LA cartes were a little better and there is an optional lobster lunch on the beach $$ that is a good investment! Many happy children that enjoy all the pools although there are designated pools. Quiet adult relaxing time was a bit challenging.The beach is nice although a bit of a walk, repeat travellers to this resort reported the reef has been damaged by the recent hurricaine but there are still fish to observe.They have recently had a large change of entertainment staff so they are adjusting to this The grounds are well maintained and some of the facilities are a little tired. Lots of British people to meet and mingle with. Hotel lobby bar has great service and the snack bar has lovely cappuccino. There are excursions to participate in as well as a local market across from the resort.

A Good Time

Buffet food was excellent, pools and beach were great. Italian a la carte restaurant food was shockingly awful. Our room was a ground floor room, and unfortunately I am not a great fan of sharing my space with frogs (5 managed to get in during 7 days-no windows open!) and large spiders. So not much restful sleep was had. The staff were very friendly and accommodating, The layout of the resort was very nice, I especially enjoyed the Main Lobby Bar area, a nice place to meet new people. A pleasurable holiday experience

the grounds and common rooms are well maintained and staff are friendly and make us feel at home.The rooms could use an upgrade regarding better mattresses and less lumpy pillows! Some days the hot water is not dependable.The food has improved and I would rate it 7 out of 10.The dining rooms are clean and evening meals are served with tablecloths and different Cuban themes.Entertainment varies for different age groups. We have been coming to this resort for 10 years because it is quiet and the v [... read more]illas are only 2 stories high. Access to the beach is a bridge over a lagoon. The beach is well cared for and relatively calm.There is a beach bar close by and also a snack bar that serves ham burger and fries and basic north American food.

Friendly Resort

Resort was very clean, workers are friendly and, helpful. Good variety of food to choose from. Beach had sand taken out from hurricane would recommend water shoes when entering the ocean. Hobbies cats, and paddle boats are available for free to use.

Our regular resort in Cuba

We have been to a few resorts in Cuba and keep returning to Playa Costa Verde. It is not the largest or smallest but just the right size for us. Not too many stairs and just spread out enough that you can walk. It is just over a half mile around the perimeter path with only one up hill section if you are into a daily walking routine. PCV has been working on renovations to the common areas and upgrades to the rooms. The only thing that is now closed is the swim up bar but a temporary pool ba [... read more]r and the snack bar are open all day. The beach is still fine but a fair amount of rock as you walk into the water. I think the two hurricanes moved a very large amount of sand away so water shoes are a good idea. Kind of the best news, new mattresses and flat panel TV in the rooms. .

Beautiful!

The hotel was beautiful and the staff is amazing! This was my first trip to Holguin and everyone was wonderful, I met so many nice people at the hotel and would do it all over again. I traveled by myself and felt safe the entire trip.

Good value

The food,room,people and overall resort were very clean and people very nice. good selections to eat and staff always with a ready smile. Pool was clean and nice. The resort is small and very safe. The beach was nice, not very long and very rocky due to the latest hurricane.The tour company got us to and from the airport in good time without any incidents. I did not like some of the music around the pool some of the morning's and afternoon. Overall a nice place to go, however if you like a  [... read more]long sandy beach without stones/coral, then this resort is not for you.

Fantastic family resort

The Playa Costa Verde is the best Cuban Resort I have been to. The kids club offers baby sitting services to allow us to enjoy a night out. The gym was well organized allowing me a opportunity to work out throughout the vacation. The rooms were always clean and up to date. The food services were excellent with quality and quantity. We are planning a return trip very soon.

Playa Costa Verde, so near to being great

The people, as always in Cuba, were great. The buildings, grounds and pools were very good. However, as seems to be normal in Cuban resorts, there were a few minor problems with the room - none were major and we didn't bother to report them. The beach isn't great. It's quite rocky and there is a small swamp between the hotel grounds and the beach. And this leads to our major problem with the location: we were bitten numerous times by very small insects; applying repellant seemed to attract [... read more] more of them. We are still itching after three days home. So, it's certainly a decent resort. I don't expect that the resort can do anything about the beach and swamp.

Paradise!

I had an amazing stay at Playa Costa Verde!! The beach is beautiful! Awesome snorkeling, fun hobie cat rides and constantly surrounded by beauty! The staff was so kind! I will definitely be returning to this resort!

Just a great place to relax

The hotel was clean, well laid out and everyone very friendly. The beach was so pretty and we just enjoyed ourselves immensely. We were a family of 8 and if we had a small problem the reception desk were quick at fixing our problem. The worst problem we had was the fact my husband incorrectly locked the safe and within 1/2 an hour we were able to retrieve our stuff and continue on with the rest of our evening. GREAT RESORT

very clean, we loved the beer corner, service was always great, restaurants were amazing, buffet was average, friendly staff, average entertainment, pool was good with lots of activities for all ages. overall - very good, we would go back.

Great Vacation

This was my fifth visit to this resort, and my eleventh to Cuba over all. So far I haven't found a better resort: best food, great beach, good room, and amazing staff. To be remembered year after year by the staff, and to see consistent improvements to the hotel (fresh paint, updates to the cigar bar, beer garden, and other areas) means that they care about their guests. There is not much "night life" at the resort so if you are looking for dance clubs it's not the place for you. It is kid-friendly but there is pay-to-use WIFI and limited organized programs for children. Having hot water and cold AC in the room, a bed that doesn't crawl with bugs, and is OK (not great) to sleep on, and a wide selection of food and beverages makes it a good place to go in Cuba. I'll be going back to Playa Costa Verde next year.
