People were very friendly and helpful

This was a fun holiday but I found the buffet restaurant was repetitive. A la cartes were great. It didn't really seem like a 5 star though. There are not enough bathrooms in the public areas. The pool has no railings or hand rails going into pools so difficult for elderly. Check in seemed disorganized and time consuming I wish breakfast would be served later than ten am.

Good resort, Not a 5 star hotel for sure !!!!

Hotel OK. The grounds beautiful and very well kept.Rooms do need a lot TLC.Staff not so good specially in the buffet area. Luck of towels in the rooms and new showers do not work properly very bad workmanship. This hotel has a beautiful location but the rest needs better management.Would I come back to this hotel no never.I also will tell my friends never to go to Paradisus Varadero.

WORST VACATION EVER

Sold as a 5 star resort, this was no more than a 3. During our 11 night package, we were 8 consecutive days without hot water before being finally changed to another room; had to walk back to the reception 4 times to re-magnetize our room key cards; had issues with those nasty fire ants (more than 80 burning and itchy bites to my body) and none of the swimming pools were warm enough to enjoy a good swim. Inspite our complaints to the reception desk, the Customer Service Representatives and our S [... read more]unwing Advisor, nothing changed until the Sunwing rep was lied to by the customer service people by being told, at day 5, that we had been taken care of and changed room; all hell broke loose after that... The only good thing for the first 8 days was our maid who did an excellent job. We also did not get the five à la carte restaurants promised in our package, just 4, because of lack of availability (not because we didn't try). Urinals in public washrooms not functional and unsanitary.

Need to have better service the people thought are very nice that work there.

The hotel is nice although I changed my room to the newer area in the hotel. I think the older area does not look fresh and I don't like that a lot of hotels leave such a gap under the front doors. I don't like lizard in my room and this could be better if they didn't leave a gap under the front door. My sister was in the old area and did not get proper bar service and had no hot water for days. Many people had to be switched because of this problem. I think they need to have better help the way they cook. The service in food areas is not good, only speciality places service is good.

Great beach resort.

Well laid out resort. Very good a la carte restaurants but booking process needs to be more efficient. Process too time consuming(45 minutes) as employee also selling private Havana tours. Older section rooms where we were staying was somewhat dated. Plenty of shade & lounges on beautiful beach and at pool.

Great resort, best beach in Varadero!!

Have been to Varadero many times and stayed at this resort twice. We we're there 2017-01-14 for a week. It has the largest beach area, great swimming, and always a beach chair available. The pool is beautiful, clean, and surrounded by palm trees. Service was great in all areas with friendly staff. We were in an older room with no complaints. There was always hot water, a/c, coffee, water, cerveza, clean towels, and sheets. "Louise" from the towel shack is awesome and had us all dancing t [... read more]o music by "Nelson" who patiently took all of our requests :) "Michelle", a friendly and wonderful life guard on the beach who actually had to save a man on our last trip!! People really need to pay attention to the Do Not swim flags!! The buffet was a little repetitive but always good. We always love visiting Cuba and would recommend this hotel to everyone!

Could easily be called Paradise Varadero

Outstanding facilities and pools. Terrific staff. I highly recommend the Royal Service upgrade. Absolutely amazing & an express route to relaxation! Personal butler, golf cart transportation everywhere for the asking, and a premium stocked bar with quality espresso too.

Paradisus varadero

the hotel service was horrible, not stocking of mini bar, no hot water to shower, leaking from ceiling took 3 days to change room,very dark at night grounds not lit up good literately walked off the curb had to pay attention every where , poor selections at buffet, 2 entertainment shows were alright during the stay, no welcome upon arrival,souvenir shops at resort not good at all, all visitors had the same issues will not return

Great Beach and entertainment at the Paradisus!

First timers to Cuba. Booked this resort because of the excellent reviews. My first impressions were not the greatest, but by the end of the week I learned to enjoy this resort. We arrived just after midnight on one of Sunwings ridiculous flight times. The resort lobby appears very dark, reception spotted toward the back, negotiate two steps down with my two heavy suitcases as there is no ramp. Clatter down the boardwalk surrounded by shallow seedy looking ponds. Check in was fine, given a  [... read more]sketch and told block 38 was around the corner. After some difficulty, we find the building we need because when a sign says left it means straight ahead apparently. I guess an arrow pointing straight up meaning straight ahead is foreign to Cubans seeing as we cannot fly. Finally get to room, looks very dated, kill a big cockroach I spot when turning on the bathroom light. Wife spots me throwing it out. I assure her everything will be fine in the morning and it was. The rest of our visit was pretty good. Next morning we find the jr Ste rooms are older but are spacious with lots of furniture. AC works great with thermostat and three fan settings, low works great. There is a 120V plug by the sink for your razor, phone charging etc. Balcony is great with nice chairs and a table. TV screen was severely damaged by a chemical cleaner but was promptly given a new one when calling the front desk. There is a standard coffee maker but they only give you hard little Italian coffee pucks that were designed for a Kuerig type machine that can puncture these robust disks. The only way to make coffee is to cut open disc and dig out the compressed coffee into the provided permanent filter. I suspect they have the new machines in the upgrade section. Our housekeeper Yurianna was top notch all week and we really enjoyed her humour and dedication to making our stay enjoyable. Let us talk about the good stuff. THE BEACH IS GREAT with plenty of sun or shade. You never have to fight for a lounger or a spot on the beach, what a refreshing change!! The water is clear and the waves are minimal. The little bars and the staff on the beach were great. Also nobody hounding you to buy trinkets. SWEET! The main lobby and bar are actually very nice when seen by the light of day. Plenty of seating, with staff coming by regularly to see if you need a top up. Truly rare at resorts I have been to before. ENTERTAINMENT WAS GREAT! Many times during the week there is life entertainment at the bar. Singers, violinists, cellos, acrobats and a in house Cuban band that roams the resort created an upbeat experience. Well done Paridsus! We are not too hard to please and found the food quite good after reading all the complaints about Cuban resorts. Booking the a la cartes was easy and seemed fair to all. Lining up at 830 helps to get the best choices. The service at the ala cartes was great. I also really liked the very drinkable red or White House wine. I have been to a Mexican Barcelo where both were very bad. The beer served was Cristal delivered nice and cold. Cristal beer is great and the best house beer I have had at a resort. There is much to like in this resort and I would return again. I would also like to thank our groundskeeper who never missed a chance to cut my wife a blossom from the hedge, the waitresses and many other staff who were always welcoming and friendly.

Great Resort

This was a last minute trip for us and we didn't even read the reviews just booked 3 nights to get away. When we arrived the upgraded us free of charge to the family concierge. It is absolutely gorgeous. Service is excellent. Food was good, beach was perfect, lots of chairs, didn't have to get up early to get them. Beautiful resort

The staff were awesome and friendly... food was average.... entertainment lacking in adult dancing etc...The beach was very nice with lots of room for chairs... the beach has lots of palm trees and kayaks and catamarans.. Weather was great.

Not a real 5 star

Let me start by saying that we have travelled to many places and rely somewhat on the star rating to decide on our resort. We always stay in a 4 star or higher! By Cuban standards this resort may be a 5 star, but in relation to other countries and resorts it is more like a 3 star. We stayed in the new Family Concierge section. On the plus side, the rooms were clean and new looking, however things were still falling apart (door knobs, handles, paint chips). We did have one person go out of [... read more] her way to assist us with dining reservations and did everything she could to get us into what we wanted! She was the only one in the whole resort that seemed to care about her job and the guests! The housekeeping staff was friendly, but they did not really do much of anything. Our room was never cleaned until the late afternoon, and by cleaned I mean the bed was made! Nothing was ever replenished! I had to call the desk twice for toilet paper, which should have been restocked. They also did not change our bath towels or face cloths all week! By then end of the week we only had two towel (dirty ones). We called the desk multiple times to ask for towels and were told they had none. We could not even exchange our pool towels, as they had none of those either! How can a hotel operate without the basic items that travellers require? (especially a 5 star resort!) The food was not very good at all and we were prepared for that as we had heard this about Cuban Resorts. I will say that the Japanese and Italian a la carte restaurants were good. I would stick with these types and stay away from the buffets! For the most part, the pool was lovely and our kids enjoyed it very much. The best part of our holiday was the time spent off of the resort! We did a day trip to Havana and a Catamaran Cruise with Dolphin Interaction! These were money well spent! As for tipping, we tried this theory, but tipping did not make the service any better! We really felt that they just did not care! The worst part was that the resort did not even seem that busy! We always had spots by the pool. I would hate to see how they operate at full capacity! We had internet included with our stay, but you needed a card to get access and they ran out during our stay. Even with a card it was very difficult to get access! Overall, we made the best of it, but it was nothing to write home about! We travelled at Christmas time and therefore paid more for our room than the regular price. We severely overpaid for this trip given the service we received!

Older side not worth cost of trip, new area modern and lovely

New Family concierge area at resort is lovely and modern, beaches were amazing, most staff were friendly and helpful. First night we were checked in to the older section which is not updated but for the bathroom, however our shower flooded the room, seems water flow was a challenge with the the slope of the floor. Food was good, entertainment was quite impressive.

Amazing Resort

This resort was one of the best we have been at in Cuba. The rooms have been updated and are very clean. We were very pleased with the selection and quality of food. All the staff that we meet were super friendly. We would recommend this resort to families.

Wonderful beach, plenty of lounges to enjoy sunshine or shade and not crowded !

Nice restaurants, friendly staff, food not always warm but plenty to chose from. The family Concierge is very modern and spacious. The old part is getting nicely renovated, could use updated furniture. Beds are comfortable and everything is very clean.

Amazing Experience

We stayed in the new Family Concierge section. Just opened Nov 1, modern, spa feel to the rooms. The grounds and resturants are beautiful. The staff are super friendly. Can't wait to come back next year.

Wonderful Stay!!

Large group of family and friends; we really enjoyed our stay with the highlights being the beautiful beach (nice white sand and no rocks) and the restaurant options and excellent food. The pool was very large so you had lots of opportunity to swim. Only issues were with limited wifi access (and you must pay) and constantly running out of hot water which can be a drag on vacation. Would still recommend this resort and it is very good value for the money.

Paradisus

Very good service. Lots of problems with the room but we were moved very quickly to another. All the staff were trying very hard to help in any way. Unfortunately (as we have traveled to various places in Cuba and several places in Varadero they must find it difficult to keep up maintenance to these places - lack of supplies and/or maintenance people.

Amazing hotel and very good service

Service is very good,we appreciated it. Your people as Marilin and serguay gave us the best service, everyday they offered 3 times hot water to our room as my mum requested. Beach is amazing, environment is comfortable. Hotel also provides trip to other places and has rental car service.

Fun, clean, great food

I felt like it was the first vacation I had had in 20 years. The food was amazing, the resort was clean, and the staff was friendly. I particularly enjoyed Eddie, who entertained us from morning to night, teaching us how to dance, play pool, swimming races with the kids, and just making for a fun vacation. I would recommend this resort to anyone.
