Beautiful resort!

Club Amigo in Holguin was a great experience. Amazing view of the ocean from most of the resort, with beautiful well kept beaches. All the staff were extremely pleasant and grateful to have us there! The buffet was sub par, but the reservation based restaurants were great as well as some of the food in the local village nearby. Would recommend for an amazing bang for your buck.

Not the greatest quality

Booked a standard room and had no toilet seat the entire week, the cieling in my room caved in onto my bed and the lights didn't work. Also, they should teach the men who work there to not try to sleep with all the female guests, it gets really annoying.

Awesome Resort

This hotel was pretty awesome. The food wasn’t too bad at all, some of the breakfast food was off but tolerable. There were 2 swim up bArs on the resort which was good on hot days. I feel like the bars and food areas could have been open longer at the main hotel where I stayed. There were only 2 24 hr bars on the whole resort and they were both at different hotels from the main. Overall my stay was awesome and I would recommend for sure

Beautiful resort!!

This resort was absolutely beautiful! It was everything we needed for our stay. There were a lot of options for different kinds of food and all of the food was very good. Some of the breakfast foods were different but they were edible. There are also two markets near by the resort to go and see and purchase little nik naks. The resort had 4 different sections which made a great tour if you are into going for a walk. The ocean was right outside of the resort (give or take a 2 minute walk outside  [... read more]of the resort). I would highly recommend this resort to anyone who is adventurous :)

My home away from home

I have been to the club amigo resort 7 times now I always enjoy it. The staff make me feel like family it is not a perfect resort however it is very affordable and a wonderful vacation. The food at the resort this trip was not abundant but with the shortages within Cuba what we got was good there was always eggs pasta and fruit rice and beans

Hotel club Amigo

I have been going to hotel Amigo for several years for several years last year when i went it was terrible, no coffee in the mornings even at the 24 hour bar. I went back this year because a friend said it had gotten a lot better, i can tell you honestly it has not, still having a problem getting coffee the bar in the corner is to small it should be moved back to the main lobby. I will not ever been going back to Club Amigo Guadalvaca, and i will recommend to family, and friends they never go there as well. I know it is not supposed to be a five star and that it is rated as a three star, but it has changed so much and not for the better. I can honestly say the staff were as great as they have always been, but there hands are tied as well when there is no coffee in the mornings what can the poor staff do when this is a management decision. My stay would have been better if the hotel could only deliver, on what they advertise. This hotel used to be so beautiful the service terrific, and the atmosphere so enjoyable that is all gone now. The food was your typical Cuban fair which you can expect in Cuba it was good as far as i was concerned, but people did complain it was the same thing served all the time, to me that is just complaining for nothing, there was enough choices you could make, though people complained they were reusing food from the day before, i don't know some of these people live but i reuse the food from the day before to remake a different meal, and i think they did a fine job doing that. As i said that will be my last visit to that hotel unless i read that it has improved greatly, it was such a wonderful hotel with a wonderful atmosphere i really hope management, or the owners of the hotel can bring that back.

Way underrated at 2.5 star... Our best Cuba experience BY FAR!!!!

My girlfriend and I just returned from Club Amigo Atlantico Guardalavaca after spending two amazing weeks at this resort. As I stated in my review title, this resort is way underrated. However, there is some cautionary advise that I will give. We traveled from Jan 19th to Feb 2nd 2019 and booked the lowest cost Standard Gardenview room category which seemed like an incredible bargain at $1095/person for two weeks. However, this is the only bit of caution advise I have to give. When our ro [... read more]om was available to check in, we walked into the room and were wondering what the heck did we book. This particular room was extremely small, dated and had very bad odor of stale cigarette smoke and both my girlfriend and myself agreed that there was no possible way we could stay in that room for two weeks (They are in the process of upgrading this section, so things could improve in the future. Also, we did meet people who were in this section and were fine with it. I guess it boils down to personal taste and comfort levels) As for us, we went down to reception and ended up upgrading to an available "Bungalow Section" room (which was much more what I was expecting based on my many travels all over the Caribbean) and we were very pleasantly surprised that the upgrade only cost us the equivalent of $5-6 CAD per night. Not only that, but after speaking with the Sunwing rep onsite and expressing our disappointment about the seemingly misrepresented advertising, he spoke to public relations and they gave us a FREE upgrade to the "Villa Section" (even nicer) at no additional cost. This says a lot, when a company steps up and makes an unhappy customer happy. And this is where any and all bad reports for this hotel end. Everything else about this place was AMAZING!!! 1) Location - Guardalava Beach has to be one of the best beaches I've been to in Cuba. Absolutely crystal clear blue waters with lots of natural rock cutouts that provide this particular hotel which multiple little beach coves that you can settle into for the day. 2) Size - This resort is HUGE!!! which means that you have plenty of walking that you can do if you wish, although the bell man is always available with the cart for those who have mobility issues. We were there for two weeks and still didn't experience the entire resort. There is 4 huge swimming pools (our favourite was the pool in the Bungalow section), 7 restaurants, 15 bars and there are activities for pretty much any desire. 3) Food - If there is any complaint from people when it comes to Cuba, it almost always comes down to food. Due to the US trade embargo with Cuba, they are very limited in what they can source which often means a lack of selection. In my previous Cuban travels, I've never had great experience with food taste either though. That ALL CHANGED with Club Amigo. Everything we ate at this hotel whether served in the buffets or A la carte tasted delicious, and neither we nor anybody we met got sick. As mentioned, this resort has 7 restaurants. 2 buffets (the nicest was the one in the Bungalow section), 4 a la carte (2 of which served breakfast & lunch without reservations) and a no reservation required outdoor grill restaurant. On top of this they also have 3 snack bars with one of them being open 24 hours. Along with the 15 bars (2 of which are swim up), you are sure to never go hungry or thirsty. One other side note about the food that is NOT TO BE MISSED!!! Right next to the resort via the boardwalk is a private restaurant called RICO PIZZA. I will say, be prepared to wait up to an hour to get your food, BUT... this was quite possibly the best pizza I've ever had ANYWHERE including back home in Canada, and at only about $10 CAD for a family size pizza it was quite the bargain. Thus the long waiting times. 4) Activities - This resort has everything for any age. Obviously they have the standard "Mini Club" for the little ones. At the main pool and/or beach area, they have multiple activities going on all day everyday including aerobics, dart tournament, boccie ball tournament, bingo games, etc... They also have a mini golf course, tennis courts, life size chess board, billiard/games room. And of course lots of non motorized water sports equipment available to sign out at no charge. 5) Entertainment - All I can say, is VERY IMPRESSED... One of the best entertainment I've seen in all of the Caribbean. Our absolute favourite was a synchronized swim team that performed on one night each week. I'm not a big fan of synchronized swimming and never watch it during the Olympics or anything, but this team were stunning performers with a great selection of popular music in the background and astounding choreography. They are not to be missed. 6) Service & Staff - It's Cuba... Always excellent!!! Finally, we found out that this resort has quite possibly the #1 guest return rate in all of Cuba. In fact we met several people who have been there multiple times and one couple who have been to Club Amigo over 70 times in the last 15+ years. That to me says a lot. It gives me confidence that my experience was not likely a one time shot and that I could return with confidence. And both my girlfriend and I plan on going back next year and hopefully bring a large group of friends with us.

Nice resort but needs updating

This was my second time at this resort. Rooms need to be updated and the food selection was repetitive each day. But saying that, Staff are wonderful and eager to help with any request. Beaches and pools are great. I would recommend this resort.

Room Will Make or Break Your Holiday

We had a pleasant stay at this resort but it would have been quite different if we had stayed in the Gardenview Room assigned to us. This room, in the so called “barracks” was small and dingy and the location was noisy because of the construction next door. Air Canada should worn people about this. The food in the main buffets was generally good but limited and very repetitive. Eating early is a good idea as the popular foods run out and do not seem to be replenished. There are 2 buffets and we definitely preferred the one in the Bungalow section as it was brighter and cheerier and generally didn’t have the entrance line-ups as did the one in the hotel. The views out over the water are great and there is a lovely walk-way along the water for your morning stroll. The rest of the grounds are neat and clean and spacious. There are 4 pools so you never have trouble finding a lounge chair. We spent most of our time at the Villa pool as it was generally quiet compared to the pool outside the hotel (loud music) and the Bungalow pool (noisy swim-up bar). The beach was picturesque but crowded so if you did not arrive early, you had to pay 1 cuc for a lounge chair rented out by the local Cubans. Watch your towel as friends of ours had one taken from their pool chair. The entertainment area hosts a large, well lit stage; however the entertainment is limited and often exists of solo singers and singing groups. One acappella group from Holguin was very talented and enjoyable. Disappointed that the horse and buggy ride cost 20 cucs which seems to be a rip off since most Cubans only make 15 to 20 cucs a month. Overall for a 2.5 star resort, it is a good deal but be careful which room you get as it could ruin your holiday.

Another great vacation

Just returned from another great week at my home away from home the fabulous Club Amigo. The things that make this hotel the perfect getaway is the beach (best in Holguin), the people and the guest. Everyone is happy and enjoying themselves to the fullest. There are 4 different pools to enjoy depending on if you want a party pool, a quiet pool, family pool or really quiet pool there’s something for everyone. If you haven’t been here do yourself a favor and find out why the majority guest you talk to have been there 5+ times.

Disappointed

This is about the 4th time we have been to this Resort , possibly the last .This time was disappointing . I know a lot of people don't really care for the food , but we can usually find something to eat , this time was awful , maybe the same choices every day and basically looked like leftovers , even the fruit was not good. Family of 4

We stayed in the Villas with a 2 and 4 year old. The kids absolutely loved it and spent lots of time swimming in the pool at the bungalows. The villa pool was a bit run down and the one closest to the beach was too busy for our liking. Food was better than we anticipated. No problem finding something for the kida, but definitely got boring after about 5 days - very little variation at the buffet. Went to El Benny for our a la carte and it was delicious! Mostly friendly staff.

Clean and confortable

Older but very nice hotel with many beaches and pools. Room was clean and confortable. Food was great with lots of variety. Nightly entertainment could be upgraded. The keyed safety deposit box could also be upgraded to the digital type. Room and safety box keys should not be tagged with the room number as this could pose a security risk.

Great place

This was our third trip to Club Amigo and had a great time again. Employees are very friendly and try to help you as best they can. The beach has always been our favourite part of the resort. We upgraded to a villa room after we were there the first night as they are much newer and more space.

I Love this place

I really enjoyed the layout of the entire resort. It made for having some nice walks every day, and if you are brave you can head outside the resort in 2 different directions. All staff I found to be friendly. The pillows in the main building weren't the greatest, but that was the least of my concerns. So many people talk about how the food in Cuba isn't great. It depends on so many things. If you are looking for excellent food through the entire resort, then you better go pay for a 4.5-5 star hotel and then you won't complain. I have been to all stars in different parts of cuba and really the food varies. Overall, the food at Club Amigo was good. The best place for breakfast is Benny's, second is the 24 hr. I would stick to those two if you want a decent breakfast. Also if you have food restrictions (like gluten intolerance or something), if you speak to the right person at Benny's (and for the life of me I cant remember her name) you will be taken care of well. If you are less concerned about the food and have an attitude like mine and you want to be social and meet people, Club Amigo is a great place to go. I really like how there are people all ages from babies to people 83years old and up. Best part is everyone hangs out together. I hung out with different people all ranging from 34-83+ (I am 44) and had a blast! In my experience in cuba overall, want amazing food, go to a 4.5-5 star resort, but if you want to build memories and meet new friends and have an amazing beach with nice pools go to a 3-4 star resort. I have only been to one other 3-3.5 star resort in Cuba and my experience at Club Amigo was way better than the one I went to in Varedero. I would definitley return to Club Amigo in the future.

the first think we wait a lot of hour for our room and front desk was not realy amical they did not said to us we did not have a frigde in our room the food was realy bad it's us who bring money there they should thinking to give us sometime some change in food and have hot food not cold and they don't have very activiter either for me if nothing change their it's not me I will talk to about this place toi my friends

Not great, needs lots of improvement

We started out terribly with the standard room which the regulars call the "barracks". The smell of mould, walls torn apart, electrical wires sticking out of the wall and the very very low ceilings caused us to not even bring our bags inside but to go back to the desk and upgrade to a villa which was night and day. Food was very hit and miss. Problem was there was no consistency as to what was available day to day. One day bacon, next 2 days none. There was no butter available until the 4th  [... read more]day, they instead came up with the idea of putting mayonnaise on your morning toast, not my scene but they offered something. Very repetitive food menu every single day was almost the same thing at the very small buffet. This resort layout is confusing with things scattered everywhere, it turns out it used to be 3 resorts that are now mashed together with no rhyme or reason to it now. There were restaurants that never opened, signs for things that were either not open or didnt exist anymore. A few positives: Benny's restaurant was pretty decent everytime we went, the staff there is great. The 24 hour bar near benny's was also not bad. The ocean is this resorts saving grace, as it is the most crystal clear water I have ever seen, just stunning. Expect to be bothered some by locals selling their wares. Price was cheap compared to other places, but in hindsight I should stop trying to be so cheap and pay a couple hundred more and enjoy myself.

Amazing Resort

Was our first time there. Staff were very friendly. Food was ok. Bring own spices, peanut butter etc. Their fresh pineapple and mango juice was incredible. Hard getting hot water. Toilet paper is like gold. Make sure you carry it wherever you go...lol. Pools are nice, grounds very clean and beaches are very nice. Rooms need updated. Villas are nice. We would definitely go back again.

‘What we have today’ resort - not ‘all-inclusive’

The Standard Rooms should be health checked for mold - these rooms are nicknamed the barracks (low ceilings, holes in the wall). Was not expecting a fancy room but definitely clean and safe (patio doors were screwed shut). Upgrade (reception was not surprised at the request) provided with cash only - no receipt. Menus were falling apart (where available) and outdated (many items listed were not available). Worst of all no mojitos available!?! Authentic Pina coladas were found just outside the re [... read more]sort for a fee. ‘Extra fees’ amounted to the cost of a higher rated resort. BEAUTIFUL beach- warm and courteous food servers & room cleaners.
