Tired resort

First off, the sandy beach is gorgeous. The staff was very helpful when they could. The omelette lady at the morning buffet was wonderful, she made sure I had bacon with my breakfast. Cesar, the bocce entertainment on the beach was great, we had lots of fun playing the game. The resort itself is going through a change in management. It will get better with time. The front lobby is very outdated with no appeal. My only other comment is that the bartenders as well as the food servers should [... read more] speak English a little better, the language barrier made it difficult.

It was bad

Food was very bad, . always the some food . they had no vegetables, service for drinks was not so good, room was okay .don't have to much activities to do.don't have don't have the good fruits. Please try will good service for future

Beautiful resort and an AMAZING beach

We have stayed at this resort several times. Our last stay was April 2018, and was extremely disappointed as to how we were treated when we checked in. As a repeat guest or first time guest nobody should be treated the way we were treated. You have to have a line for check in only and check out only, people are in the incorrect line and when you get to the front you are then directed to the other line, the back I might add. Never experienced this before, very frustrating to say the least.  [... read more]When we finally got to our room, it stunk of sewer, fridge didn't work & patio door wouldn't lock (looked like someone had broken into the room, as it was right beside trees that people could crawl up to the deck on). We didn't look any further into the room and went straight to lobby to have our room changed. Now let me tell you this was another experience she should not have to deal with when you are on vacation, they refused us a new room (said they didn't have any room available), so I said we will park ourselves right here in the lobby, sleep on the sofas, use the bathrooms to wash up, etc. we were not leaving the lobby until they found us a room that would meet our requirements (all we wanted was a fridge that worked, patio doors that locked & no smell of sewer. So finally they said someone could help us in another room, but she wasn't around and they couldn't give us a time as to when she would be back (he said she was on her own time and would arrive when she got here, extremely rude to us) So we parked ourselves in her room & the waiting game continued. She arrived about 2 hours later, suggested we go & have something to eat while she looked into this matter. When we came back she said they were still looking into it - so we stayed in her office and waited, finally the phone rang and yes everything that we found wrong with the room was not suitable to us to stay in. No rooms available right, wrong they gave us a beautiful room with ocean view (which we could care less, as we spend the whole day at the ocean). Took us almost 7 hrs to get to our room & we were exhausted in the heat waiting around, but we had a wonderful vacation and loved the resort/pool&beach that is why we go there. ALSO free meal was lobster for the repeat guests (was terrible), we went the following day as one of our a-la-cartes and was AMAZING. Not sure if I would recommend this hotel now after this experience.

The resort was great as always , 50 plus times there ,

air transat should hire sane employees, there service are beyond repair , nothing i paid for i got (option plus) and to finish on a sour note 6 days with out any luggage, i advise any one to stay clear of transat , many flights with them and every time issues

Swimming Heaven

I love this place in spite of the food. Some of the A La Carte restaurants were actually quite decent. Forget the buffet, especially if you are health conscious about sodium. Fresh unadorned cooked vegetables are truly scarce. Bonus points for lovely presentation. They really try. World class beach, kind people, beautiful landscaping, comfy rooms. I feel safe there.

Back for a second time round!

Back for a second time round!, Stayed in plus side newer rooms. Rooms excellent. Staff always friendly. Food good. Traveled May 8th. so resort was under populated. Ale carts were reduced to one venue and one choice per night. I had to insist after we were told lobster was fully booked, then was accommodated.

Terrible resort

Hotel was bad 1st room given had baby crabs crawling all over. 3 days in I fell on the ceramic terrace and broke my hip spent 3 days in hospital in Cuba before air ambulance flew me back to Canada. This is one trip from HELL that I will never forget. Will never ever travel there again!!!!!!!!!!!!

Disappointed

This was, I think our fourth time to this resort and it has been excellent up to this time. We travelled last week, from May 12-19, we were very surprised to know that Blau resort is being changed to Fiesta Americana. Another surprised was that a lot of the restaurants were closed, only one was opened. The worst part was that the buffet restaurant was closed which was terrible, and they were hosting the buffet in the Cuban restaurant which is in the open, which meant flies all over the food whi [... read more]ch was disgusting. We struggle all week for meal times, usually meaning to eat a hamburger and fries, extremely late breakfast at the snack bar and we ended up eating chips and chocolate bars from the store for dinner for the last 3 days since there was no more restaurants to go to. The grounds were good, mostly the pool for “plus” customer only and that meant us since we paid for it which was a great thing. The workers in the snack bar and the pizza place were great, the maid did an excellent job cleaning our room, it was always spotless even the floors. She was very friendly and very courteous. I wouldn’t recommend it unless you have a back up for food to eat, which I didn’t. I would recommend it until they open the buffet restaurant with closed windows. Hopefully they do soon for people to enjoy this wonderful resort.

Not what you’ve heard.

My sister and l just came back from Holguin Cuba. May 2018 I always avoided booking the Blau Costa Verde because people said there are rocks on the beach, the food is not so good, and the place needs lots of TLC. So l went not expecting much at all since even the weather was showing to be raining and cloudy. I decided to see Everything for myself. The Hotel is under new management (Mexican) and is now already being called Fiesta Americana Costa Verde. Changes are under way. The Potential of this resort is going to be awesome. I told them l really enjoyed my holiday, the weather was great, the Beach is Beautiful, the food will improve along with everything else and yet we ate happily and we’re always satisfied. I think one day soon this resort is going to be amazing. I’m looking forward to returning as soon as the improvements are done.

Beautiful Wedding

This was my eight time at the resort. I have brought many people over the years because I had such a wonderful time for most of them. Unfortunately the resort is going through a transition with new ownership and all I have to say is that other than a beautiful wedding and good company our trip was quite a disappointment and I really don't think I would return here. Cuba itself is beautiful and I will continue to explore the island of paradise.

Changes happening to fast

We have stayed at this resort several times. This year we left Halifax April 22 - May 6...our usual two week holiday. The first week there was amazing all our fav. employees were working and a pleasure to see them all again. Very excited that we did get our requested room so important to us. Then things started to change during our second week. Apparently resort was low on guests ...under new management etc. So we were told we had to leave our fav. room by a note left in our door. If I had wanted to be in the plus section I would have booked that way. Long walk when u need two knee replacements. They closed the main buffet..the beach restaurant and the larcarts. Things got hectic discouraging.. frustrating etc. The one main reason we return to this resort ever year is employees..our room..and the food. I understand this is Cuba different way of life and I truly love our friends there. Never had this happen to us before at this resort but being trustful we had left two thermoses and my morning coffee mug on our patio table. Went to look for them and they were gone. I know in my heart ..gut and mind it was not the employees working there. Lots of rumors of how locals come in on the weekends and steel cutterly etc. Now keep in mind the employees have to pay for these items so I was told. Not sure of the upper Managers name but he does not speak English. I believe it was his wife that I seen several times walking around with a walkie talkie. I was quite taken back when I did witness her showing authority in the buffet. It was hot these people work their butts off doing repetious work. Omg this one worker had a small glass half glass of water and with one point by a finger she had to get rid of the water. Come on lady in the long dress really !!!! really it's not the Ritz Carlton. Oh to you and your husband your welcome on the gift we gave you both and also for your 10 year old son. The employees feel positive changes are coming to the resort .I hope it will be that way. To take out all regular staff well almost all lay them off or send them painting u have to be kidding me. The students that replaced them are running around shoes to big or too small working like animals for free. Um yeah something wrong with that set up. Yes they need on secene training hey but not put out there like they are totally lost. Lastly no one can fill Barbara's shoes no one. Sorry we did not see her this year in public relations. Will I go back right now debateable. I have to say I would recommend to a friend as long as they read reviews from here on. As I don't know what it will be like next April.

Comfortable and relaxing

This was a spur of the moment trip for us so was mainly looking for a good place at a good price. We got both. The resort was smaller than most as well as at the end of the season so it wasn't over crowded at the pools or beach. Lots of sun. Staff was friendly and helpful when needed. This is not a fancy resort, but was very clean. The mattresses are in need of replacing. Signage could be better for finding your way around, but again it is a smaller resort. Only negatives about the place was tha [... read more]t they didn't use real OJ in their drinks and they sprayed for bugs at suppertime when everyone was outside.

Typical Cuban Resort

When traveling to Cuba, one can't expect luxury, but this hotel was comfortable, the staff always friendly and willing to help, room very clean. On the negative side, the cocktails were very bland and watered down, and it was a big concern when spraying for insects occurred during times when there were tourists walking on the grounds.

Decent Cuban resort with pros & cons

The older part of the resort (lobby, pool, 'standard' rooms etc are all showing wear - peeling paint, chipped tiles - nothing horrible, just tired. As with most resorts, Cubans are friendly, patient and accommodating. I did not realize there was a 'plus' option, the exclusive pool, bar and 2 story accommodation in the 'Plus' section seem newer and look quite nice. I was on a fl [... read more]ight that landed and departed from Santiago de Cuba (3hrs away). This definitely eats into a short holiday. Lastly, though I know this is virtually impossible to prevent, there were smokers everywhere (except the buffet). I felt like I was always in the smoking section (pools, bars, beach). Someday I'd like to find a truly non-smoking resort.

Awesome Time!!!

Everything was great minus a few small things but all and all a great time for my daughter and myself!! Some great bonding time for sure!!! Room was not done up when we arrived but they were quick to make it up and the water didn't work at first but that was also fixed in an appropriate manner. The fridge was not filled with water and beer and soft drinks but we made do!!

Nice resort

A well kept hotel with a nice view of the ocean. The shared beach was okay , music was too loud at night . The food selection was limited and the ala carte didn't have pasta on the Italian night. Bar tenders had very limited knowledge of drinks.

Not a Destination Topper

We found this resort lacking in some areas! The food was barely passable, it did not measure up to other resorts we’d been to in Cuba. The beds were very hard( expected) but the pillows were very old and had a bad odour. Bar servers could have been more attentive to people not holding Tips in their hands. Beach had a rotting odour and was very rocky! Overall a good week but would not return!

Very Nice, but learned I'm more about beaches than townes

Hotel was nice, beaches OK but not great, clean , food plentiful, but not a lot of flavour in much of it. Hot water seems to be hard to come by, 2 days out of 7 , I being up first actually got warm water, I even let it run 10 minutes on the one day, to see if it was just the water in the pipes. Excursions .. the Rum, Cigar and train ride was not at all what I expected the train ride, steam engine was broke down(breakdowns happen), diesel engine ran, hooked to homemade train cart with various  [... read more]different chairs , bus seat and benches cobbled together to take us past roughly 4 city blocks(5min ride) Cigar factory was interesting, Sugar Cane factory is not there anymore just some steel rusty beams, lunch was included after 3 block walk to restaurant through town square with locals continually bumming money or trying to sell you something. The ending of the trip was a cigar and a bottle of Rum included in the Excursion price , overall I decided the beaches were more to my liking and my next trip will be not so close to town or the local population.

Not a 3 star !!

Worst place we have stayed in Cuba , rocks , stones , and broken glass on the beach ! No air conditioning first night barely worked till last night there then nothing again, hard to find something eatable at lunch and dinner, Staff was very nice and helpful, pool area bar was about the nicest part of the place ??

Great resort

Hotel room was clean. We had trouble with our safe but staff fixed it right away! Food was better then most Cuba resorts! Beach was beautiful but small and rocky! Staff could have been a bit friendlier!! All in all I would go back!
