3rd Time Here!

We brought our granddaughter here to see the real Cuba. The tour guides were the best and very knowledgable and spoke English very well! The entertainment at night was disappointing, not worth sticking around for. The rooms were always clean and the maids were very nice and always polite welcoming us and thanking us. The resort itself I saw improvements and upgrades. It was tuff somedays to find a 12-year-old something to eat so we did with a lot of repeats ( pasta for lunch & supper). Hey, we're in Cuba, we always found something to eat so the food thing was minor. This beautiful country and its wonderful people are being hurt thanks to Trump's blockade. Wonderful resort!

Really enjoyed our second visit to this resort. As previously the staff and their service was stellar. They seemed to be genuinely happy to look after us. Always smiling and appreciative of tips. Unfortunately the food was off lesser quality than last year but there's always a good selection. Fish is always a good choice. Rooms and all areas are very clean. The beach and pool are beautiful!

Cuban 4 star resort

Expansive resort a bit dated. Worth paying the extra for the premium section. Due to the problems they have with restrictions from other countries they don't have some of the extras they once had but still worth the value of the hotel. Great staff great beach. Food was good with what they had, but lacking in variety again only because restrictions . Would return in the future.

Only Good Resort but now with only 3+ {????)

It was our 4th to this resort and I am afraid it will be the last. Rooms - 4 stars (ocean view) Bars - Lobby 4*, other 3* Food - 3* (quality and service terrible, shortages) Staff - 3* Activities/Entertainment - 2+* Beach - 4* (Services/Toilets - 2*) Safety - 3*

Its great. It use to be better!

This was our 4th visit to Playa Pesquero. The service, the staff, the grounds, the food was what kept us coming back to this place versus any other in Cuba. The issue that we encountered this time around was that due to the worst food shortage in the last 15 years in cuba; there was a lack of food selection. All other times they had lobster everytime at every alacarte restaurant, now it was just for new years eve! There was no Ketchup, mustard, mayo, salted butter, nutella, hamburgers and FRIES, [... read more] FRIES! HOW? It's not the peoples fault, its the faulty government for enslaving their people in a communist environment. They have rationed everyone! People spend hours in long lines trying to buy chickens,eggs, butter etc... to only find out that by the time they get to their turn, theres no more produce. The shelves are empty at local stores, they seem to have an abundance of honey though which i found weird. The staff at playa pesquero are excellent, the grounds are always clean and kept up. The only other main issue i have is the rooms are extremely outdated and don't waste your money on upgrading to a superior room! Like the saying goes, same $%#@ different smell. They really need to upgrade the beds and furniture. The electrical outlets have been more than abused, they barely hold a plug in. I will keep coming back just because of thr relationships that we have built there, if it wasn't for that I don't think i could keep going back and supporting that government regime. Poor people.

Beautiful Beach, Friendly Staff, MAJOR Shortages

This was my third time at Playa Pesquero. The last time I visited was several years back. I was worried that the resort might have become run down, but the grounds were still beautiful and the rooms in reasonable repair. The beaches here are beach here is great. Cuba has such beautiful beaches. I was visiting over the Christmas holidays and was surprised to see that the resort was nowhere near capacity. Which as a guest was nice as it meant never having to search for a chair or spot of shade, bu [... read more]t not really a good sign for the resort. So that's the good stuff... now onto the bad. The food was TERRIBLE. I can't stress enough how bad it was. A lot of people complain about the food in Cuba and I've always defended it saying it's not as good as other places, but you can still always find something to eat. That wasn't true this time. I think that the resort was suffering from major shortages. There was no flour - which meant no bread. Very few options of fruits and vegetables. For the first several days I noticed that there seemed to be pickles, pearl onions, capers and olives everywhere. These were the options at the omelet station, the pasta station, options as toppings for your burger, salad option. But no actual veggies, just this canned and pickled stuff. It's like they ran out of everything and just raided the pantry to see what was left over in there. There were also no condiments. No ketchup, mustard, salad dressing choices. They had a variety of tiny condiment bottles of random (often tasting as though they were past the expiry date) things like a terrible tasting queso, terrible salsa and not very palatable hot sauces. Usually at a resort condiments are placed out in bowls because they are purchased in bulk. These were tiny bottles that you might find in a convenience store, which seemed to support the raiding the pantry theory. If you are vegetarian or vegan avoid this resort. You would starve. Meat with a side of pickles and olives was really the only option at a lot of meals. I really don't understand why there were so few fruits and veggies. I would imagine the climate in Cuba is ideal for a lot of plant based options. Also, something like rice and beans should have been an option at every meal despite shortages I would think. It wasn't. You could tell the staff knew how bad the food situation was and you could see the embarrassment in their faces when they offered you this disgusting flatbread like thing that they were trying to replace bread with. There was apparently no flour, so that meant no bread. SO they made this flatbread that was generally so hard you would risk breaking a tooth. It was terrible and they offered it with everything. Burgers were served on this cardboard as well as hot dogs and sandwiches. It was so bad that one of the people I was travelling with was convinced that they were serving us military rations. Although the beaches are great, I don't think I'll be returning to Cuba again after this experience.

One of the Best Holguin has to offer

There is a reason this resort has such a high guest return rate, and once on site we saw why. The buildings the grounds and all amenities are well kept. The beach was clean, had ample chairs and shaded areas, hobbie cats and paddle boats to book and take out, along with snorkeling masks. Drink service on the beach, a tiki bar and pizza place beside the bigger snack bar (the food available down there was great). Service was friendly and sincere. The pool areas offered something for everyone, a  [... read more]quieter side to relax, as well as a more upbeat section with an in pool bar. Foam party to the side, along with a separate pool for water volleyball and activities. South of the pool area was a strip with shops and restaurants, beer garden (24hr) and ice cream bar. Directly north of the pool area is the buffet and lobby. Well laid out resort, with a little something for everyone. Buildings 28, 29 and 30 were great location for minimal walking to everything, the food and service at the 24 hr snack bar also located just of the southern pool area was nice. Good selection of food and prompt polite service. Really enjoyed the a la cartes, Romantic was our favorite by far, the lobster was some of the best I have had in Cuba, and the house red wines varied but were a decent drink with meals. Clean, upscale and pleasant. We look forward to adding ourselves to the growing list of return guests at this beautiful resort!

Playa Pescero Cuba

Unfortunately I have to tell you that we had the worst ending vacation experience on our last day of our trip. We travel at least two to three times of the year and this is the first time that one of our very personal item got lost. My son sweater which was a birthday gift from her sister was disappeared from the room. We reported that to the hotel customer service and they are just telling us to call the police and when we asked for a compensation/money to be able to repurchase the sweater the [... read more]y were telling us we are making a false accusation and if we tell anybody in the resort about the incident they will call the police to remove us from the resort. I told them that I will write a bad review about them and report this to you and trip adviser and any other media so they do something about this. Basically they are telling us we are not responsible for your safety of your items and if something get stolen from you, you have no right to tell anybody except the police. Thank you, Ali

Overall--Very nice resort

All in all this is a very nice resort with really nice staff, good food, etc. The only setbacks were: 1-No concept of having customers form a line or "queue" at check in. Frustrating when people arrive in busloads, tired, hungry, don't speak fluent Spanish, etc., etc. only to have others seem to think they can walk right up to the counter for immediate service. What can I say....most humans are ignorant of civilized etiquette and efficiency/orderliness is NOT a strong suit for many, partic [... read more]ularly outside of NA, including PP. 2-Your "reservation required dining" privilege requires some fairly strong discussion about what "all inclusive" means. It means....I paid for this in advance, now is not the time to tell me that your nicer restaurants (not buffet) are "full". On further pressing I received the reservations included with the booking. OF NOTE: NONE, ABSOLUTELY NONE, OF THE "RESERVATION REQUIRED" RESTAURANTS WERE EVEN CLOSE TO "FULL".....HALF FULL AT BEST THROUGHOUT THE EVENING, EVERY EVENING, EVERY DAY. This was consistent for the entire duration of our stay (12/25/19-12/30/19). I speculate that this is a "cost savings measure" as the cost to provide table service vs buffet is quite a bit more......However, that is what I paid for in advance and will never accept any excuse for not receiving what was paid for without reimbursement. 3-Room temp was just barely comfortable. Didn't even dawn on me that the AC wasn't working properly but that may have been the cause. However, these are relatively small issues. The resort, including the food, was very nice--especially by Caribbean standards. Would go again.

Wonderful time!

The resort was wonderful. Beach was gorgeous with excellent swimming and snorkeling right there. Everything was clean and the staff were great. Very helpful. Helped us get a few a la carte dinners when all seemed hopeless. Trying to accommodate 9 people can be tricky. All 4 of our rooms were nice and clean. Absolutely great resort!!

The resort itself is incredible,very well kept and clean ,the gardens are big and lush,with alleys that are great for a walk . The rooms are big ,clean and everything is working condition. The resort is like a small beach village, with bars , restaurants,souvenir shops all over ,even an ice cream bar. The a la carte restaurants are also amazing ,especially if you are into seafood. The main buffet is great ,very spacious, with lots of grills and not only. One other aspect that can improve at this resort is the entertainment, maybe not the best choices all the time. Amazing beach

Beach was the best !Ocean was calm and clear ,sand white and soft to touch,clean,with some natural shade from the trees and enough huts;even though it was the highest season beach was not too noisy,but to get the lounging chairs you had to come early enough to reserve them! I have been at many Cuban resorts and this one in 4 stars’ category wins for best a la carte restaurants when it comes to quality, presentation and taste of food as well as the authenticity of the theme of the restaurant when it comes to the decor(4 free ones was enough not to have to deal with the buffet wait ,too!) Set up of restaurants,shops,dessert,drinks and other amenities made it feel like a little town in a resort. Resort is flat, but large enough to offer some movement and different spots for hanging out and strolling, making it more fun in an all-inclusive setting.

4 star experience

Hotel grounds were immaculate and staff were friendly. The beach was smaller than I expected, and we had a hard time finding chairs most days, they were all reserved by 8am. The pool was enormous and clean, and you can always find a quiet spot to relax. Despite our lowered expectations of the food, we were still disappointed. It was great that most things were made to order, but the dishes were often overcooked and under seasoned, and lines were long (10 to 20 minute wait for your dish to be pr [... read more]epared, on average). Our room was clean and the bed was comfortable, and I enjoyed the hot showers with good water pressure. Housekeeping was slow at times when we called to order refills of things such as bottled water and body wash. We really enjoyed the coffee bar and ice cream stand. Wifi was good, but only available in the lobby or at some spots around the pool. The nightly entertainment was above average and there was a good variety of different acts.

Wonderful vacation place!

Whole crews are very friendly, the beach is best of all compare to other resorts nearby. Pools are very large and clean. There are many restaurants we can choose from. Our family had great experiences and fun times from the resort.

Wonderful relaxing time

We stayed on the Premium all adult side of this resort. Very relaxing , very clean , food and drinks excellent , staff outstanding with their service, the grounds and pool are excellant and kept spotless .The premium rooms are very large and spacious with a large balcony . Access to the main hotel provided quickly via golf cart type shuttles should you choose to go to the main hotel. The main hotel hosts the nightly shows and other restaurants if you choose to go. As Premium guests you have a [... read more]ccess to all hotel areas but main hotel guests cannot access the Premium side. Would return again in a minute!!!

Bit of a let down

we have been 6 times to this resort, and we see it continue to drop in all areas except the staff, thats why we love this resort.All areas of food quality down with most short of major supplies, other resorts no problem, here theres a problem, i believe a lot has to with current management, plus embargo spells disaster.bananas that they grow there almost non exsistance? no embargo there, untill they get new leadership there i believe it to continue togo down hill, Beer garden always had early mo [... read more]rning breakfast, no more, over in grill were it took us 20 minutes just to get coffee, another 30 minutes to get our eggs [COLD} and raw bacon, in beer garden you would have your complete meal and gone in 20 minutes, i could go on for hours but i wont, we are thinking to go else were ,but we truly love the staff and freinds that we have met, you cant blame workers for these changes i blame this poor management""

Very very good resort!

One of the cleanest resorts we have been to, although only at half capacity. The food was very good everywhere especially the a la cart restaurants. The roasted pig outdoors was a feast as well. We loved the beach and did some great snorkeling every day. The pool is massive with plenty of loungers. Service was great everywhere. Room was a bit worn but clean and neat. The resort is very big so be prepared to walk alot or wait for the golf carts going around. Amazing resort !!! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

The best resort I've ever been in Cuba !!! Was officially opened by Fidel Castro in 2003. Awarded for excellency. There is a wall with all displayed awards. Service was beyond my expectations. The entire staff was extremely friendly, making sure that each and every guest is happy and taken care of. Food was excellent by all means!!! Ernesto is a professional tour guide and will take you with his driver Lois to the heart of the city where you will learn a lot about Cuban history from it's discovery... very interesting and breathtaking ! Playa Pesquero is a true PARADISE ON EARTH !!! It is a perfect and affordable resort for families with children, couples, singles, groups of friends, cigar fricks, cappuccino lovers etc. There is everything for everyone!!! If you try once - you will be a returning tourist like myself and my husband. Just go there and you won't regret !

Huge Resort

Everything about this resort is good or excellent except the food. The Seafood a la carte restaurant we didn't enjoy, but the Italian was very good. This is a huge resort so only book if you like to walk. The beach was fabulous, and the pools very nice. The entertainer at the pool was way too loud, you could hear her calling out the bingo numbers at the far end of the beach, near the new resort. Great resort

Almost perfect resort, especially in Low season. Great for kids, a lot of plants and trees. Lots of shade in the resort and the beach. Montecristo room is perfect size for a family with kids. There could be some minor improvements. Food can be improved but the variety is good.
