Almond Beach Resort: Wonderful Small resort!

Relaxing, quiet resort right on the ocean! Beautiful sunsets!! Very laid back and welcoming feel (no sales pressures). Could easily walk around the resort and to the nearby town. Very safe. Ocean was great for snorkeling. Lots of amenities and activities available. Limited restaurants on resort however the food was great and varied each day. Had a wonderful time!

Mango Bay: Mango Bay

The hotel was very clean and the staff were wonderful! The food was 2nd to none - even though there was only one restaurant there was lots of variety to choose from. Would be concerned if the week was rainy as there wouldn't be much to do on the resort.

Almond Beach Resort: Beautiful resort!!

We just returned from this resort.It was amazing!Everything was so clean and comfortable-the staff was so friendly and couldn't do enough for you!The water was so clean and the beach was beautiful!We are just so saddened that they are closing at the end of April!Sandal's are tearing it down and rebuilding a new resort!I Guess we'll never be able to afford Barbados again!

Starfish Discovery Bay: Small, older, enjoyable resort

Older resort bur room was very clean and bed was comfortable. The grounds are well kept and there were always sun beds available though the resort was not busy when we were there. There are only two restaurants, one for lunch and the main one alternates between buffet and A La Carte. The food was usually good and nicely presented.

Mango Bay: Loved Each Day in Mango Bay

The Mango Bay Hotel in Holetown, Barbados was absolutely marvellous. I would go again in a heartbeat. The smell of the flowers and the sounds of the blackbirds, the waves, and the musicaL melodies will stay with me until I return. The food, the service, and the rooms were wonderful. Beautiful beach! Butterfly Beach Hotel: Great week at Butterfly

just spent lovely week at the Butterfly. A small, 93 room, family owned hotel right on the water with a small beach. If you are travelling on a budget this is the place. You will know all the staff within two days. We had a small kitchenette with everything we needed to prepare a light meal. Rooms were basic and clean. They do have a small dining room on the water, great food. Also Chinese across the street, roti place next door, and lots in St Lawrence which is a nice 20 minute walk. A pool a [... read more]nd 3 whirlpool tubs in another area and never a problem getting a lounge chair. Occasional live music in the dining area. They are planning to close this May till the fall for upgrades which will be great. Great location between Oistins fish market, St Lawrence Gap and 15 minutes from airport. And 15 walk from grocery store. Also on a local bus route which we used several times for 2 Bajan dollars to tour other areas, although there is lots to see within walking distance. The hotel staff are very friendly and helpful. we felt quite safe. Would definitely recommend.

Sugar Bay Barbados: NO WONDER IT'S NUMBER ONE!

In over 40 years of travelling to resorts in the Caribbean, Mexico and South America I cannot recall a better all-round resort than Sugar Bay in Barbados. My wife and I loved the fact that it was not one of those ultra large and ultra blingy resorts. Beautifully maintained and lushly landscaped grounds, an incredible beach area, multi-blue sparkling waters - they were all there to be viewed and enjoyed. The resort itself is a very short distance from the airport and located on the fringe of the island's major city, Bridgetown. However, the major plus for our week in the resort had to be the staff and the residents of the island. Bajans are a delightful people, polite, helpful and cheerful. They go out of their ways to help you enjoy your stay in the resorts, in town and anywhere around the island. It's no wonder my wife and I said that we would definitely return to this island paradise again.

Sandals Barbados: Holiday to Remember

Sandals Barbados, was the best holiday we have ever had! Though it was quite expensive, it was well worth the $. The grounds, the food, the pools THE BEACH! Totally amazing! Infinity on the Beach: Infinity on the Beach

Noise: Yes, it’s the Gap and yes, I read the reviews. Knew about karaoke on Sundays and Wednesdays and I brought earplugs. We arrived on Saturday. That night there was a party in the area beside our room. It was so loud that the glasses were vibrating on the table. I got no sleep at all. Sunday night was even worse. We went to the desk on Monday and requested a room change to the other side. I was told that they were not aware of a party on Saturday. I assured her that there had been [... read more] one. I was advised that the only room that she could move us to on the other side would involve an upgrade that would cost $72 US per night (so an additional $350+ US for the balance of the week). I responded “just so I understand this, you have a vacant room that you could move us to but you would rather that it sit empty than accommodate a paying customer who has had no sleep for two nights?” She answered that she could not move us without charge because it was a better room. So, the week didn’t start out very well for me on this note. Ocean: I had read the reviews that indicated that the chairs could be moved to a quieter area on the beach. Upon our arrival we were given an information sheet which advised that umbrellas were charged at $5 Us per day. So, yes, you can move the chairs I guess but you cannot move the umbrellas. And if you vacate your chair/umbrella during the day, the attendant will sell it to someone else. This is quite a lucrative business. I think your hotel should provide chairs and umbrellas on the beach. This was new to us. Arrive early or you get a spot third row from the ocean. Chairs are set up with almost no room to get between chairs or down the rows. The hotel is situated on a nice, walkable beach. Pool(s): The pool on the ocean side is tiny and shallow and (in my opinion) should be designated as the children’s pool. The other pool is private and larger but is across the street from the ocean. You are not charged for umbrellas here. However when the family with children takes over the pool there isn’t really anywhere to go for quiet. Other resorts we visited on the beach had water available at the pool bar. There is a small bar here and there is water – but they charge you for a plastic glass! I think it’s $1. Room: The room is very basic. Bring your own shampoo, soap and conditioner. I guess it’s just luck of the draw whether you get a full on ocean view or partial as others who were travelling with Westjet vacations had quieter rooms looking straight on the ocean. The small fridge was adequate for keeping drinks cold and the bar provided ice when requested. The king sized bed was comfortable and the air conditioning worked well until it was shut off every morning at 6ish am. This would awaken us and we would have to get up and start it again. Housekeeping was sporadic. Food: Over the week we had a breakfast, lunch and a dinner at the hotel. There are so many restaurants around to choose from. All of the food that we had at the hotel was very good with attentive service and prices comparable to restaurants in the area. The breakfast was great and a pot of coffee is cheaper (and much much faster) than getting coffee anywhere else! I don’t usually name drop in reviews, but I have to mention that Kay was so friendly and welcoming every time she served us. Miscellaneous: On the information sheet provided day one we were advised that a $2 tax would be charged daily (strange way to greet guests). But it is “voluntary”. Upon check out I declined to pay it because (i) I’ve never been charged this before in Barbados; (ii) I’ve never heard of a voluntary tax; and (iii) we were taxed 17.5% everywhere we went plus a 10% service fee and additional gratuities requested on top. I thought it was a bit excessive. On the Friday of our stay, the entire staff took the afternoon off for a team building day which didn’t really effect us or bother us – though I felt sorry for those lined up to check in. However, the final day of our stay, we thought we’d have two hours to sit by the pool before our shuttle. We had just arrived when we were advised that there was a Zumba class taking place in the pool from 10-11:30. 20 or more people from outside the hotel began arriving and setting up speakers etc. at 9:30. I know some hotels offer pool fitness, etc. but in this case, there is only one pool available to swim in and the hotel is essentially renting it out for Saturday morning, rendering it unusable to paying guests.

Accra Beach Hotel and Spa: Very good resort, very strong waves on the beach

The hotel was well-located with good space in the rooms and friendly staff. The food was a very pleasant surprise. Everything from casual fare like pizzas and sandwiches to fine dining in the Pacifica restaurant was quite good. The three pools were fine for those who didn't want to brave the beach or for kids. About half the beach was red-flagged for dangerous swimming virtually every day of our visit with good cause. We went to other lovely and tranquil beaches nearby for swimming. The hotel should do something about their gym. There is old and minimal equipment there and it's located in a dark and humid spot with an awkward upstairs loft. It seemed to be well-used by guests. It was not up to the fine standard of the rest of the hotel.

Starfish Discovery Bay: Adequate-Could use some TLC

The food was actually very good. The hotel is in need of much general repairs and upkeep. A little paint and repair to the sliding door would be recommended. The room was clean; we had to ask for a phone in our room to be contacted about a tour. It was. We had to ask for the safety bar on our sliding door to be repaired; it was fixed, sort of. Starfish Discovery Bay: Great 6 days in Barbados 🇧🇧

Discovery Bay is an older hotel, not very fancy. However, the location is fabulous, the beach is amazing & I had a very very good time. Food is fair value. Some days a buffet, some days a la carte. Again not fancy food but lots of choice & a variety to choose from. And a large variety of drinks as well. All in all if you want a get away which doesn’t break the bank & you want to go to a beautiful, warm, safe island... I would recommend Barbados & Discovery Bay.

Sandals Royal Barbados: Amazing Resort

We had a great time, resort excellent on all levels, Rashid, Shakira and Brian the Butlers - outstanding! The pools and restaurants were fantastic! Loved the food at all restaurants! Would go back in a heartbeat! Sky pool was kind of cold that would be my only complaint but was still a great time!

Accra Beach Hotel and Spa: really good experience

My wife and I enjoyed our stay at Accra. Great beach, great staff, all kinds of restaurants within walking distance, would stay again, tripcentral.ca was bang on. Thanks Eliana with your assistance with booking our room the night before our trip, which included our parking. All went very well.

Southern Palms Beach Club: Good resort

Hotel is in a good location in St. Lawrence Gap - on a great beach near to many restaurants. There is one restaurant at the hotel and live music and dancing 3 nights per week, plus steel band at Sunday brunch. Monday was rock-a-billy western, Thursday steel band and Saturday band with 2 so-so vocalists. Steel band was the best. Buffet night on Saturday was great, but not so much the Caribbean on Monday. Service at restaurant/bar could be very slow at lunch. Breakfast buffets were good. St [... read more]aff were sometimes not very friendly, but generally helpful. Mostly an older crowd, mostly from UK. Tea every day at 4pm! Only shade at beach was from a few trees - unless you rented a nearby umbrella, but beach was lovely and not crowded. No coffee maker in room if not upgraded to Ocean Suite and no coffee until breakfast opened at 7:30 am.

Accra Beach Hotel and Spa: Hotel needs improvement

We stayed for 10 days in Barbados. This was our first family vacation with our toddler (18 months) and some other family members. We had an absolutely fantastic holiday and travelled all over the island. We will definitely be back to the island! We are an easygoing bunch but unfortunately this hotel is good in some areas but also needs a lot of improvement. There are definitely areas that can’t be overlooked so I will start with the pros. Lots of restaurant [... read more]s within walking distance (Champers is referred to as the best restaurant on the island by the locals, I don’t think they are mistaken) and Accra beach is stunning (aqua water, white sand, no seaweed and just the right amount of surf). There is a very convenient plaza right across the street. You can save a lot of money (and time waiting) by buying some duty free rum on the way in and then mix + beer across the street. Great breakfast spots and Just Grillin is delicious and fast. The pool is also beautiful and there is always loungers. Now on to the bad. First impressions were not good when we got into our room. The lobby was beautifully redone but our room was not. Our flight was delayed so we got into our uncleaned room (chunks of dirt and sand, concentrated in the bathroom) around 6:30pm. There is also a mixture of replaced items (I.e half the tiles) and many pieces are damaged (lamp shades, the sliding door shutters, etc) or moldy (our bathroom door was covered in mildew and so was our family members). Through out the trip everyone’s coffee maker, air conditioning, etc was hit or miss. No one can get hot water in the morning. We asked to have our room thoroughly cleaned in the morning and room cleaning was always questionable. Sometimes there would be garbage bags in the cans, sometimes they would sweep, etc. The one day we forgot to leave a tip our room was cleaned very well so I think it is just dependent on the cleaning person. If they don’t provide a blanket you can ask for one. Only 3/4 of our group had thin blankets on the bed. Service is very slow at the hotel. To the point where our toddler would wait 1.5 hours for French fries ordered at the beach bar while we had a drink so we learned quickly not to eat at the hotel. Breakfast is also $60 bds..it’s $20 bds across the street, faster and tastes better. The slow, overpriced items are consistent at the hotel. Nicer to get out and see the area anyway. Four individuals had gastrointestinal issues within the first couple of days while everyone was still eating and getting drinks at the resort. My husband spent a day puking (something that has never happened while on vacation before, even in Cuba). Apparently there are some major issues with water quality going on. The sewers are overflowing and contaminating everything. Our group thinks the hotel served them tap water causing these issues. Locals recommended we only drink bottled water. However, there are no unpotable water signs posted. While this isn’t a drinking water quality issue, there is a water outlet just a couple of feet up from the hotel on the beach where the board walk begins. It absolutely reeks at this location and you swim nearby to this at the hotel. I hope they can work these issues out. It really is a great location and the main area of the hotel is perfect. However, when we return we will be trying a different hotel.

Starfish Discovery Bay: Beautiful Week in Barbados

My husband and stayed here a week (February 17-24, 2018). We would give the resort’s location a 10 out 10. We had a beach front room which was beautiful overlooking the beach and a palm tree outside our window. The beach was perfect for snorkeling. The resort is also close to shopping and restaurants. The resort is small with only 80 guest rooms which was perfect for us. It was quiet with mainly older guests. The staff were very pleasant and accommodating. The buildings are old but are kept  [... read more]clean. We had an all inclusive package. Our drinks were always made good. We would give the food a 6 out 10. There wasn’t a good variety at the buffet and sometimes the food wasn’t always fresh. The a la carte dinners were fair but the service was always good.

The Club Barbados Resort: Mediocre resort

Resort was clean and well maintained . People were very nice and hospitable . However a few concerns , this resort is no good for young people , resort caters to seniors + 60 years of age . Entertainment and activities were very lacking , specially in the day time . Wifi access was very weak and no reception in the rooms. Food variety was no good and pool chairs were very limited . Starfish Discovery Bay: Beautiful Barbados

We were not interested in throwing our money away and staying at a Sandals resort or the like. Our desire was to visit a an English, clean, safe island where the beaches are beautiful and we can drink the water and walk the streets without getting assaulted. Discovery Bay is a feasible way to go. Reviews of this hotel are mixed so it was a bit of a gamble , but we definitely made the right choice. The beach was fantastic. I cannot believe previous reviews I read saying the food is not good. Simply not true. Everything was good, lots of variety and always a"catch of the day" , if you like fresh fish. The pool area was so comfortable, I didn't swim there, but I read a book on the comfortable loungers towards the end of every afternoon. It was very relaxing and the pool looked so clean . For sure there needs to be work done on this older resort but they have not scrimped on anything that would make a guest uncomfortable or not enjoy their stay. I forgot to mention the shower worked great and there was always a lot of pressure and hot water. The house merlot and white wine that they served was really good. ..I think I'm a fairly good coinsurer of wine. Holetown is a five minute walk and lots of really neat looking shops and restaurants. We dined out on our last night. . I would recommend this resort to anyone who is willing to forego marble floors and just wants to be comfortable and enjoy the Bajan culture. Mark and I will be returning next year.

Sandals Barbados: Best of both resorts

My wife and I and another couple we traveled with stayed here for seven days. We chose to stay at this one and not the Royal because it was significantly cheaper. To our surprise the Royal is right next door so we could use all the amenities of the Royal too. Best of both resorts at our disposal. Nice. However, it w [... read more]as on the border of the two properties. Building 3. Very convenient to access both. The food was terrific at all the restaurants and buffets for that matter. If you go for any meal at the La Parisienne on the Royal side, be prepared to wait. They don’t have their act together yet. If you are a diver or snorkeler, then be prepared for the 30 minute bus ride to the harbour. Go on the orientation tour as there is a lot to cover over the two properties. Beach is nice. It was quite windy during our stay. We got to sail only once. Unfortunate. Had to speak to a manager about a server at La Paris coffee shop. Some more training in customer service was required. Another surprise was a 4 lane 10 pin bowling alley on the Royal. We tried it. It was fun. The butlers monopolized the better pools. We came at 6am to reserve chairs and most were already taken. There should be a limit on what they can take. There was some form of entertainment every night.
