Second time there and it got better!

We stayed at the Riu Santa Fe from Feb 25-Mar 3 of this year. This is our second trip to this resort as we went in March 2009 and lo and behold I think the place actually got better over that period! Not that we had anything bad to say about it then but I really feel that they have even improved since then. We booked through Debbie at Trip Central, that was a flawless and easy process. There were 6 in our group and she ended up getting us right next to each other in 3 different rooms. Great work [... read more]. We have travelled extensively with Sun Wing in the past and have never had any real bad experiences other than the odd delay here and there but they do a very good job as making things go very smoothly from start to finish. I recommend doing the Elite Plus, sure it's an extra $200/couple but you avoid lines, don't have to worry about weight in luggage and typically get better seats with leg room, being a tall person it's much needed as the seats are tight. Overall: Love it. We're going back. Riu chain is fantastic and I could sit here and rattle off some complaints but I'll stick with my general vibe and that's from a very good place! Enjoy!

Beautiful Resort with Breathtaking Views

This hotel is amazing from the moment you arrive to the moment you leave. The staff are so friendly and go over the top to make your stay enjoyable. The rooms are average, very clean which is most important. The infinity pools and views are breath taking. The food is just okay but what are you supposed to expect when they are trying to please thousands of people. Overall this resort is fantastic and I will continue to go back.

Awesome Holiday !!

We just got back from a week here on Feb 29..was an awesome resort ! Very large, if you stay in 7 you have a long walk to the lobby and buffet, but the steak house was close and had very good food. Found it was quite the party place, lots of young adults, not easy to get room in the swim up bar pools. Very nice beach, although you cant swim in the ocean here. We went on some very nice excursions. Large variety of food each day, but every day had the same choices. Our room was classed as oceanvie [... read more]w, and if you leaned over the balcony, you could see a bit of the ocean. We were a party of 3 adults, and found the room a little small for us, and not really set up for that many adults. Lots of closet space, and bathroom was nice. Minibar was good :) Good location as far as getting to Cabo downtown, and to the marina, was a short cab ride. Go to Cabo Wabo !!!

Beautiful property-unswimable water

Hotel quite nice-food o.k. for all inclusive-undertoe 3 feet off shore. Property quite flat with ramp to beach,suitable for the disabled. Distance a little far for disabled to beach Hotel does offer w.c service to & from. Pools & grounds beautiful as well as spotless. Furthest hotel from town in hotel zone. Watch out for expensive (cheating) cabbies. There are set rates-Make sure what you're paying before you get in.

A great week at Riu Sante Fe

This resort provides great value. The place is huge so there are lots of different areas to go to depending if you want quiet or lively. Nice to be able to take the bus to the marina without any worry. Will go back for sure.

Good resort

Just returned from our vacation some quick notes Check in was easy done on the bus so all we had to do was get a room key and card towels. But there was no direction an getting to our rooms on the resort and we had to carry our own luggage to our rooms ( I have never had to do that ) grounds were extremely clean the cleaning staff were very good but not too friendly entertainment staff were great beds were a little uncomfortable and hard Front desk staff were horrible. very rarely answered the p [... read more]hone I think 2 out of 20 calls during the week , I had to go to the front desk and wait in line to ask for a pillow that never arrived. Beach was not really good as you were unable to swim in the water and the sand is very course Food was ok , it tasted better then it looked for the most part Buffet was ok but a lot of the time there was shortage of food. I do not think there is enough restaurant space to accommodate the resort I found myself waiting for food to be replenished at the buffet or wait in very long lines to get food. Bars were good but at times very long wait to get served , they would do better to have a few more bartenders overall I would say this resort has potential to be better based on the service overall I rate it 3 but it can easily get a 4 if they fix that issue

Best trip ever

I went to the Riu Sante Fe in Cabo San Lucas & let me tell you it was the best trip ever & I have been to many places. From the time we touched down I knew it was going to be a great trip, Jared the Sun Wing rep was funny & informative on the way to the resort. Check in was smooth & fast, the rooms were clean & the ocean view rooms in the 7000 block are great they look right across the beautiful bay to Cabo. Entertainment at night on the resort was fun & the bars in the square were live & everyone was friendly. We spent most of the days in the pool at the swim up pool bars & everyone was having a good time. The staff works hard to keep the grounds and rooms clean & tidy, bartenders are awesome & dining staff friendly & courteous. We went on a few excursions & had a blast. Town was fun check out Cabo Wabo & Squid Row. I have no complaints & will definitely be back to the Riu Sante Fe !!

Best trip yet

This resort was great, nothing bad to say. Resort was clean, great selection of food and drinks, and the beach is beautiful. I would definitely recommend this resort. The pool bars are second to none.

Very good last minute deal

rooms are very nice, resort is very clean, food is fantastic, drinks are quite good. entertainment is pathetic and not worth your time. walmart and costco are close but there are not any small shops close by. wouldn't recommend walking to marina as beach is steep amd sand is very soft. water taxi is a cheap alternative

Amazing resort and experience

First off, there have been some bad reviews recently. After being here I have no idea why. So happy we went and ignored the recent bad reviews. Everything was so amazing! We're a younger couple and went for a week. This place has something for everyone. Great food at all times of the day. The buffet has a lot of options. For breakfast, lunch, and supper! The Asian a la carte was our favorite. Plenty of pools and hang out areas. We hung out at every pool different days and the beach as well. The upper area has lots of room and is a little quieter. Good for relaxing days for when you're taking it easy. The lower pools, closer to the beach, are definitely a younger crowd and more of a party atmosphere. This place has 3 swim up bars. So there's really no lack of areas to grab a drink. This is high season for them and there was a lot of people. Much more of a social environment than other resorts we've been to. Which was cool with us. There was still chairs on the beach or by the pools when we needed them. No long line ups for drinks or food. Which is impressive for such a large resort at maximum capacity. All of our service was very good. They were happy to serve us and look after us. Sometimes they were so busy there was no one to seat us at a table at the breakfast buffets. That didn't bother us. We're not so picky that we need someone to pull out our chairs and pour our coffee if they are that busy. We are capable adults. If you are that kind of person, or need them to bring your favorite drinks out to the beach for you, you should be booking at a more expensive resort or the palace next door. The whole place was kept very clean and maintained well. I noticed them painting things that I would have left longer, personally. Cleaning stuff that looked clean anyways. Well done gardening. Just an overall clean, fresh, experience. Keeping things in tip top shape all the time. Not 100%, but more than enough for us, that's for sure. There was sports and activities at different times of the day. Two places to play water volleyball and beach volley ball as well. Saw several nice weddings. Room was great! Very clean. Nice bathroom. Awesome balcony. Large bed. By chance, I think we had one of the best room views in our resort. They did a very thorough cleaning when ever we left the 'clean room please' hanger on the door. Entertainment was good. Not the best I've seen at a resort. But good enough to wander down to see the show for the night. Mostly dancing shows. Extremely talented dancing. Overall the place was amazing and we will never forget it. Most people we had talked to with a lot more resorts under their belts said this was their top choice. And we can totally see why. We will be returning later in life. With a large group of friends if we can. This ended up way more thorough than I expected. But if anyone has questions, I'd be happy to answer what I can. Not the Swankiest but FUN!

The staff/servers were delightful and very helpful. Great ocean and pools! The view is stunning + you gotta check out Lover's Beach!! Buffet is decent. Avoid "Asian" restaurant at all costs - horrific!! Steak house + Mexican were decent. Terrible plastic sheet on our bed, but we took it off and slept comfortably. 2 out of our party of 6 people had their cell phones stolen.

Awesome vacation!!

The hotel was gorgeous, the food was delicious and the room was clean and comfortable. Nice location...close to the marina and shopping. I would highly recommend this resort to anyone looking for a memorable vacation.

Great place to get head lice!

Awful hotel. My daughter got head lice, my son and I both got sick. Dirty place. Oh and the housekeeping staff stole some of my clothes. The front desk staff was competly indifferent, terrible service. Food was bad. After the third day I started to just eat fruit. If you want to lose weight this is the place to do it. The one shining star was the kids' club, the staff there were friendly, caring, and my kids LOVED them.

Party Resort!

Everything here is Great as long as you don't mind a lot of people having a good time. The food is the only reason I knocked one star off. Its not even that its not good tasting but often barley warm. Especially at the a la cartes I expect piping hot food. So its best to watch for them putting out fresh food and eat that or Made to order omletts for breakfast. Tacos for lunch made to order. Cut for you roasts for dinner and made to order stirfry Are the best options for fresh food. There are lot [... read more]s of things to do in the area and it is relatively safe. You can swim at the beach as long as the flags are a safe colour and are a reasonable swimmer. There is a strong rip current that could pose a problem to weak swimmers even when the flags say its safe.

Just barely OK

The hotel was just OK. The location was great and we loved the beach. The buffets and food and beverage overall were not good. As well the hotels bedding was disgusting. The hotel does not have electronic keys so we were worried about security and who else may have access to our room.

Can't wait to go back

We absolutely loved the resort. Staff was great and the breakfast and dinner buffet's were amazing. The location was perfect, beach, pools and views were incredible. We had ocean view in building 7. Highly recommend an ocean viewith when booking. Well worth the money.

Good with flaws

Wish we'd stayed the the Riu Palace. Food was bad and staff was not very friendly. Entertainment staff was extremely repetitive. Need to up date their music at pool. Great beach and excursions. Suites were very nice. Standard rooms were very standard

Beautiful Resort

The grounds, food service and workers were exceptional. The only improvement I seen was the mattresses on the bed, our bed had a hollow in it and I do not like the rubber sheets they put on the beds, they make it very hot for sleeping.

Better than expected!

Good food good times and sun everyday. Couldn't have asked for a better week in the sun for my girlfriends birthday. The resort delivered her a complimentary bottle of tequila on the day of her birthday as well. Some nights had a few too many partiers which was its only downfall. But it was maybe two hours at most of noise. It didn't affect us very much. I would go back in a heartbeat. Try to ignore the beach vendors too. We mostly stayed at the pool but the beach vendors were annoying at times.

Great Resort

My wife and I traveled to this resort to celebrate our anniversary. The grounds are immaculately cleaned and the resort was well planned out. The room, food and drinks were all excellent. We are not smokers and although there is no smoking in most eating areas it is still a nuisance in other areas. Although they said that you were only allowed 90 minutes of internet in the lobby per day we found that you could use the internet all day everywhere and even on our balcony (but not in our room). Int [... read more]ernet strength was weak for streaming and some sites seemed blocked (Instagram). Entertainment was OK and repeated if you stayed for 2 weeks which we did. Canadian hotels can learn a lot from their very streamlined check in and checkout. Local buses can take you almost anywhere within a short walking distance. We had a great time.
