Don't go

I have never been so disgusted. This was suppose to be a trip in memory of my parents that have passed away, I used my inheritance to share a trip with my children and grandchildren, which was their grandchildren and great grandchildren. For a trip that cost almost $10,000.00 very very upset, a place that says its a 4-5 star what is told about resort not true, I would say it's a 1 star. To start off with there was over $400.00 price drop for each person which the price drop was included in our  [... read more]package, we are only getting $220.00 back each. Now this is what happened on our trip - when we 1st got there we got wrong room for My husband and I, we had diamond club and got a room with 3 beds in it, so we had to get a new room - diamond club what a joke wasn't treat any different - My son and his girlfriends 1st room was full of bugs, 2nd room bathroom full of mold, so on their way to 3rd room maid accused them of stealing a beach towel, their 3rd room bed springs coming threw - treated like shit when they went and and complained, would ask for bottled water and was told they never had any, she has IBS so she needed it - Daughter and her husbands bed was like a board, they only had towels for 2 people and there was 4 in their room, twice they never even got towels after they cleaned their rooms - My husband and I had 3 days of the maid only making our bed because there was still sand in between the sheets -food was beyond terrible, the hot food was ALL cold at all meals even the a la carts, only the Japanese was hot and that's only because they cook in front of you, the pancakes were so cold I put them in the toaster and would still come out cold - very rude staff in all, except at the a la carts -My husband and I never got any more special treatment in our rooms for being diamond club -Son and girlfriend had their room missed twice for cleaning - Toopy and Beno only their 1 day and that was scheduled, which was suppose to be twice that day, and that ended up up only being once, Bernstein bears not even there (they were to be there all the time on website) -luggage got oil on it from plane - my luggage the hard plastic for it on inside was all broken -lunch by 2pm was pretty much taken away if you could eat it -snack bar wouldn't serve us at 4:10pm, sign said 10:00am-4:30pm -resort ran out of beer on Sunday for a little while -everyone got the diarrhea, 3 of us got diarrhea and even took Dukoral -good thing we took lots of snacks cause that's pretty much what we ate, my poor grandchildren had to eat bread and bananas for a week -would be told no bananas go back up and there would be some -My son and his girlfriend was suppose to have something for their birthdays never got anything - toilet wouldn't flush out poop, not good when you have Diarrhea -My daughter and her husband had cigarette butts coming up their bathroom sink drain, they don't smoke -2 of the rooms never had fridge stocked Extremely Disappointed on this trip, and what a terrible experience for my son and his girlfriend this was their first ever trip. I will never return or recommend this resort.

Great Resort

They accommodated very well. The grounds were nice, the staff was great, the drinks were good. The room and food was okay. The resort is very big. There were no major issues at this resort everything was satisfactory.

Nice but go Diamond

This is my second time at memories,very nice resort ,food is a lot better than last time (3 yrs ago),the people at Diamond Club were great,very helpful ,,but the main counter gives you the run around every times,could not even call your room from there???? As for the shows they were good, and service at the buffet and a la carte was very good,,It's a good resort to bring children age 4 to 10 We took the jeep safari GREAT and went to Havana Tropicana show it was a nice day..Overall we had a  [... read more]good time....

Nice resort

the resort was clean and well taken care of,the beach was fantastic. The resort was a little large for walking to and from the 1 buffet at that front of the resort everyday a couple times and never found a 24hr snack bar anywhere. The pools are beautiful but could use a little more cleaning after windy days as many tree's are around them.

Fantastic vacation!

Beautiful Resort with the friendliest staff! Rooms and facilities were clean and well organized. Nice beach and pool area with lots of chairs. We found the best part of this resort the wonderful staff that work there, all very friendly and always willing to help make your vacation better. Would recommend!

Great resort!

We were extremely happy with our stay at Memories in Varadero. Our room was always neat and clean; we had fresh towels every day and our room was in the perfect location. The lobby is large and there is always something happening there with people to watch. The whole resort is well kept with beautiful landscaping and wonderful palapas on the beach. I especially loved the mojito bar!! What a great idea!! First time at an all inclusive great

thought that it offered many options for various activities As I have no problem walking it was a great exercise walking from dining room to restaurants to the beach I did not feel cramped in a small space nice choice in pools lots of chairs lots of shaded areas at the beach - good Nice to have restaurants of some sort open x 24 hrs tours sometimes land you back at awkward hours Thank goodness the bar is open for hot drinks prior to check out  [... read more] etc ALL STAFF VERY HELPFUL recommendations for improvement toilet paper in outlying facilities please some of the food stuffs could be hotter a small map with opening times of restaurants etc electricity warnings re bathroom plugs ( loved the hairdryer there and working ) presented with key at check in

Terrible resort

This resort is very nicewhenyou walk into lobby, as long as the lights are on because power goes out about 20 times a day! When you walk in their are several ladies behind the desk, none of which acknowledge you until you say something to them (one time was literally 10 minutes while they chatted and laughed amongst each other looking at us) Once out into resort pools are, nice walkways are nice but garbage cans and light fixtures are smashed and laying on their sides. Washrooms are disgusting [... read more] doors broken off toilet stall. Always urnals out of order, one urnal ran the entire trip. Rooms were moldy and falling apart, no hot water after three days. Staff were nice besides the ladies at the front desk. Food was very hit and miss, mostly miss. Clenliness was nothing when it came too dishware and silverware, if something wasn't used at your table they would just replace what was used. A glass was broken in the lounge one night, next night the glass was still their. Overall we made the best of this trip and met alot of really great people but would never go back to this resort.

Good Resort

For a 4 star is was okay. I was upset when I arrived at the hotel at 1am in the morning and only on receptionist was there to give us our rooms. She took the drunk young kids first who took so long. While my kids where dead tired and running around. Once we got to the hotel room we had no hot water for a shower, and when I went to call the front desk, the phone didn't work. Half the number keys were missing. The bed smelt awful and we froze due to the AC being on all night, but wasn't comfortabl [... read more]e sleeping with the sliding door open. The next day they told someone will fix the hot water. By 7pm no one did and they told me to shower else where throughout the week. I freaked and demanded a new room. I did get one and much nicer. The spa sucked. I used it before our flight. I got only one towel for the three of us, my daughter slipped on the ceramic tile due to all the water. no hot water in the spa. no hair dryer....nothing. Otherwise it was nice. Great entertainment team and beautiful beach. Some drink kid stole my beach towel and I did tell the front desk so I wouldn't be charged. Security box in the room didn't work.

Lovely time!

Hotel is somewhat dated and in need of updating but it's clean and staff are friendly. Food was excellent, always something available to eat. They do need to replace outdoor lighting, very dark at night made it hard to find your way around safely. Overall a lovely stay.

Not Disappointed

I had read multiple reviews about this resort on TripAdvisor,with some praising the place and others who would never go back. My Bride and I visited here between Christmas and stayed over New Years and we found the resort was actually quite good. The grounds were kept clean, the bars had plenty of alcoholic beverages and the bartenders knew how to make specialty drinks. The pools were clean although a tad cool but the lower night temperatures had a play in that.Our maid kept our room clean and s [... read more]tocked with necessities like water in bottles and hygiene products with fresh towels daily. This was our first visit to Cuba and I'm quite sure not our last.

Not worth the visit

This is a very old and run down hotel, there was mould in the room and everything was rusted out. The hotel is no was all inclusive, there were no beverages in the room in any way and we were informed you had to be a presidents club member. The staff were not really that friendly and was hard to get service. All of the drink machines were turned off, so unable to get blended drinks in any way anywhere. Memories left a bad taste in our mouth

BEAUTIFUL GROUNDS

THE GROUNDS ARE BEAUTIFUL. IT WAS A GREAT PLACE TO GO FOR A WALK. THE POOLS ARE NICE. THE BEACH IS EXCELLENT WITH AN ABUNDANCE OF LOUNGE CHAIRS AND SHELTERS. THE SHUTTLE SERVICE DID NOT EXIST AS THEY HAVE NO DESIGNATED STOPS AND NO REGULAR TIMES. IN A ONE WEEK STAY WE WERE OFFERED ONE RIDE ON A SHUTTLE THAT WAS FULL. FOOD WAS OK AS THERE WAS A VERY GOOD SELECTION BUT FOR QUALITY ON ALL ITEMS WE HAVE TO REMEMBER THAT THIS IS CUBA. THE SUNWING REPS DID NOT GIVE ANY INFORMATION ABOUT THE RES [... read more]ORT. NOT ALL BARS HAD A SUPPLY OF DIET COKE FOR MIX, IT WAS A SEARCH FOR THAT MIX. OVERALL WE WERE SATISFIED FOR THE PRICE.

Not bad for Cuba

hotel was not bad for Cuba...took Diamond Club package which was a total waste of money...upon arrival we were told to walk to our building and had to carry our bags up three flights of stairs...not Diamond Club service.. had no towels for two days when I complained at Diamond club services was offered to go pick them up myself and take to room which I refused to do.Hot water was also lacking in our Diamond club room while other guests had both towels and hot water for a hundred dollars less ?? [... read more]??Dining room was no better as we stood in line behind regular paying guests at the same buffet...forget Diamond Club...staff was nice

Didn't meet our expectations - was the worst Cuba experience we've had

We stayed at Memories Varadero from Oct 25 - Nov 1, 2016. It rained for a good part of 5 of the 7 days! While the staff were friendly and the resort appearance and beach were very good, here are some of the things that we found wrong or unacceptable with the resort: 1. Food: Very limited selection at the buffet, a la carte restaurant and snack bars. The buffet food that was supposed to be hot was actually cold because they put it out too far in advance of the restaurant opening; there was [... read more] limited variety and sometimes they ran out of a "staple" item - even though the resort was only about 30% full. 2. Room was dated: no hot water - only lukewarm; mattress was very old - lumpy with bedsprings sticking up; no coffee maker in the room. The resort is quite large and since our room was in a building down at the beach, the long trudge to the lobby bar for early morning coffee was treacherous due to very limited lighting along the footpaths. Towels - we only received fresh bath towels 4 days after we checked-in. Since it rained a lot, we spent a lot of time watching TV - the TV was old with very limited English speaking channels available. 3. We had Diamond Club service, which meant we were suppose to get "waiter" service at the beach. The two times we were able to spend some time at the beach the waiters never came around. Diamond Club is not worth the extra money. 4. The snack bars and beach bar closed early - sign said open 'til 5:00pm - they closed at 4:30pm. 5. Activities pool was dirty - not quite enough water in the pool to make it to the skimmers. I never saw anyone vacuuming or cleaning the pool the whole week. As a result there was always lots of hair, and gungy stuff floating on the surface. Yuk! Even though we got a good $deal on our trip, there are not enough good things to say about this resort, so we won't ever go back.

Fun for less

I stayed in a suite which I loved. Two bathrooms, a sitting room, ocean view and a comfortable bed. There is enough of a selection of food to fill a person up. Bring your own hot sauce and it tastes much better. Drink selection is limited because there isn't much for mix.The staff is great whether it is the wait staff or cleaners. Acknowledge them and you will be looked after.

Run down Rooms

The first impression we had to use the washroom in the common area in the lobby when we went in there was no toilet paper or paper towel and several of the stalls were out of order. This was the norm during the entire vacation. We checked in and was taken to our rooms which was not what we had asked for so we had to go back changed rooms again. The room we stayed in had a faulty air conditioner and mould all over the walls and ceiling it was damp and smelly. the bar fridge was dirty. The [... read more] towels were disgusting stained, discolored, well you they looked like they were been used to the clean the floors. The good part the grounds were beautifully kept the staff was nice and friendly very helpful.

After 8 years finally a disappointment

We love Cuba and the people. The last 8 years in a row we have gone to Memories Varadero in September. We were very disappointed this year due to being inundated with a mass of Cubans for the week ends. These Cubans were pushy, filled there plates high and seemed to devour the buffet leaving very little. At the end of the weekend these Cubans filled bags with butter, bread, food also filled jugs with beer to take home. At one pool bar there was no beer for over 24 hrs. due to these Cubans.  [... read more] Also, there seemed to be less staff, we had lunch in an al-a- carte that took 2 hours due to only one wait staff on. We asked others from different resorts if they had weekend Cubans and they said no. So it appears it was only Memories. Diamond Club privileges meant nothing to the Cubans they used them even though not Diamond Club. Canadians beware.

Good resort

I had a great vacation at this hotel but some things could have been better. For one the workers there are great! Very polite and just over all good people. The gardeners upkeep the grounds very great. The activity pool was very clean the other one wasn't so much but spent most of my time at that one tho because we met so many nice people and was a very fun time. The least I liked about this resort was my room lots of mold starting top and bottom the bath was worse then the one I have at home the toilet barely flushed and I had 3 beds in there when my husband and I should have gotten a king size instead of 1 single and 2 twin size. But overall I had a great trip and I would go back but I would upgrade to a suite.
