Hotel Bella Habana: Good basic hotel, fantastic value

By Cuban standards, this hotel was very good. We had a clean room with running hot and cold water. Beds were comfortable, tv worked, we had towels and soap. We even had a window air conditioner. More comfortable than some casas.

Comodoro: Luxury it is not

The Comodore was built in 1961 and you can imagine it must have been something to see in its heyday. This is a tired hotel but one does not typically travel to Cuba for the luxurious hotels and fusion cuisine. I picked this hotel based on cost and location. The main building itself reminds one of the now demolished International in Varadero, to the East of the Barcelo Solimar. I stayed in one of the villas on the West side of the resort. The ocean view from the large private patio was pret [... read more]ty good and you can see locals fishing and swimming from the sea wall. Don't go too close to the railing unless you want a view of the aging, decrepit area where there is the remnants of a possible beach bar. There are meandering paths to the villas along side several pools. The use of faux bridges make it look like these pools are interconnected, but they are not. This is a good thing as only two of the pools were filled and one looked like it was St. Patty's day in Boston. Make sure to take a picture of the map sign when you first arrive. The room numbering shows no immediate sign of logic and a late night arrival turns this into quite the adventure. The main patio did not have a bar open the first three nights, so our group brought our own bottle. Once they opened, they told us we could not have our own bottle there, so we found an alternate location. The entertainment on the patio consisted mostly of a Latin music video show and one night of local dancers. The music was very loud for such a small venue, and few people used the patio. The fact that they built part of the resort too close to the ocean is self evident by the casual observer. A quick adventure into Salon 2 and 3 makes one scurry for the exit. The air is rank with decay and mildew. For the room itself, the shower was either cold or luke warm, but never hot. The fridge did not work. There was no spare blanket or pillow and no table lamps. The air conditioner worked, but the condensate drain was plugged, so the dripping of water was like the second hand of a clock. The chambermaids (their words) were friendly, efficient, and accommodated my schedule without complaint. Walking to my room at night was challenging with the lack of light. The remainder of villas had better path lighting, so expect this was storm damage. There are newer villas to the East side, away from the ocean. I am guessing they will eventually tear down the main building due to it's proximity to the water and rebuild closer to 3rd Ave., which is a typical layout if you have been to Varadero. Breakfast was included and the omelet chef Angel was great and the fresh juice was really good. The bread was also fine. You can eat a really good breakfast before heading out for the day and save some money by not needing to eat lunch. I had dinner at the Italian restaurant one night. I had the pepperoni and sausage pizza (9 CUC) which was really good and filling and shared a fried cheese as a appetizer - very nice. I had the burger (8 CUC) at the snack bar near the villas one night and that was really tasty. Fresh hand made patty, ham and cheese on a sesame bun with potato wedges. There was a fair bit of repair activity underway during my 7 day stay. They are still recovering from the damage from this past hurricane season, so one should give them a little slack. Final note - there are no travel agent representatives on site. I did not have any departure information and had to call a local Havana number. They did not have the answer directly and promised to leave a message with the hotel the next day to pass on the information, which they did. It probably would have happened without the call, but did not know what was going on. The binder had no information on the return flight and bus pick-up time at all. It was 5 hours before our scheduled flight, which was the same as a friend travelling the day before.

Hotel Deauville: Fantastic location right on the Malecon, Havana

We stayed at the Hotel Deauville for 5 days while in Havana. The hotel was perfect for our needs during our holiday. Good breakfast provided daily, close to the old city and right on the Malecon. Pillows were thin based on our standards, and one of the elevators frequently had some issues- it was the older of the 2 elevators. Staff were friendly, and our room was spacious with a balcony overlooking the Malecon and ocean. Overall a very good place to stay given it is a 3 star hotel.

Hotel Atlantico: A disappointing experience from our previously favourite resort

We had been to the Atlantico many times before, and always LOVED it, but this time we were confronted with some disappointing issues: - Scanty selection of food - Very few drinks available: no mojitos, often no rum collins, no diet cola of any kind, and no apology of any kind for this lack - The inviting bar in the lobby had been replaced with a piece of stained glass! What a loss.. - Our newly renovated room was nice, but a horrible stench coming up from the shower drain continually permea [... read more]ted our unit - In addition we were not warned that there was no usable beach, thanks to the hurricane -- just rocks and caves, both on shore and in the water, making it very uncomfortable. Usually the beach is fantastic....

Hotel Atlantico: Good resort for the price

Amazing beach with white sand behind the hotel. Can take long walks along the beach. Resort food is not that good. Free shuttle to havana every morning and brings you back at 5 pm. Nightly entertainment is poor. Travelled Sept 2017

Hotel Deauville: Nightmare in paradise!

It was the worst hotel I ever stayed Very upset with my selection Very disappointed! For the amount of money that we spent I expected at least a better Service and a cleaner place!,i don't normally complain but was ridiculous it is not acceptable

the dinner was very unpleasant I did stop eating dinner even I paid with my trip package I have some pictures to prof I am not a pick man .The people that work the room and resption were good people ... The room was,excellent

Gran Hotel Manzana Kempinski: Best Hotel in Havana

This hotel sure lives up to its 5 star rating, with its outstanding staff that speaks English to its roof top pool everything about this hotel screams 5 star. The room all have great views and are to appointed with modern furnishings. Th lobby is a little small and get congested every once and a while. What i like also was there was great security all around the hotel outside and inside.

Gran Hotel Manzana Kempinski: Best Agent in The Business

I came across Beth Mckinley thru friends who have previously use her for travel arrangements, usually i only book thru American Express Platinum Travel Service. I thought i would give Beth a try with the recommending of my friends, and i glad i did. Recently Beth booked me a first class vacation to Havana for 4 days, and i mean first class. Here were Beth earned the title Best Travel Agent in the business, i ran into a few issues at the hotel with checking in ( none of Beth's fault), since i cou [... read more]ldn't call back to Canada i texted her at 1 am and she fixed everything by calling the hotel at her own expense, she also phoned my son and told him i was OK and safe. Secondly i lost my passport and she again advised me what to do and got me home safe. I have traveled the world flying the best airlines and best hotels but i have never felt so protected and safe ever. So Thank You Tripcentral and a shout out to Beth Mckinley who just earned my personal business but also my corporate account as well.

Hotel Atlantico: Hit and miss with service in the hotel

Room was adequate there are newer rooms but need to do upgrades. They were quite conservative with the bottled water. Had to refill numerous times. The dinning staff were great. Although they can benefit from taking a food handle course

Villa Bacuranao: The Basic Necessities ??

This hotel was probably a nice little gem of a 2 star back when it was built. ... way back. ... But, it could be once again if the Cuban government could find some money to restore it. It's too bad, the grounds and pool are nice ! For a few guys wanting to stay cheaply around Havana, it is almost acceptible, if only the hot water tap in the shower had a handle! And if only they would install two window screens to keep out the flies and mosquitos. As a base camp, you can take a 5 cuc tourist bus into Havana, or for 1/20th of that, you can join the locals and take a regular bus to the same place.

Hotel Bella Habana: Nice Friendly Hotel

The hotel was clean and the breakfast was good. It was a bit out of the way from the central Havana scene but taxis were plentiful so it was all good. The price was right. It was an excellent deal for airfare and hotel combo from Montreal.

Blau Arenal Habana Beach: Very nice resort

The grounds are beautiful and the staff are helpful. We loved taking long walks on the beach, watching the birds in the mangroves on the property, and the proximity to Havana. The rooms were clean, quiet, and air conditioned. We don't speak Spanish but the staff spoke enough English that we could get by. They also spoke Italian, French, and German! This is a resort that originally catered to Italian tourists so there is a lot of Italian being spoken. Hotel Atlantico: disappointing experience

Unfortunately not the Cuba I am used to. I have visited Cuba 7 times so know what to expect. While the room was clean, the pool was green for half the week and their response was that they would clean it tomorrow. The was only boiling hot water or cold in the shower and no in between. The food which is normally ok was not great. There was little modification to the menu all week and I got sick 2x i suspect from the water they used to boil the pasta. They ran out of beer and pop 1 day at the insi [... read more]de bar and had no slushie machines to make daquiries or pina coladas. They charge to use the safe which is uncommom. The nighttime shows were more of amateur night and there were no daily activities organized. The employees preferred to walk around and ask you to get them drinks. Sadly a disappointing vacation. I woukd not return to Havana for another vacation.

Club Acuario: O M G.. not good

ok.. so there was loads of poop and smashed bird eggs on the floor in front of one our rooms... with a Bat residing 2 feet from the door.. easily visible and agitated. Room floors were horrible.. bathrooms smelled bad.. sewer smell... i brushed my teeth outside with bottled water.. great views tho.. lol. staff was really nice.. when they understood you.. (learn spanish if u come here).. food is horrible. pool bar limited.. food was better at bar... all they have is ham and cheese... it [... read more] took forever to ask for mustard (moo tassa) is what u got to say. Pool is nice.. thats about it. if it wasnt so close to havana.. i would have left the first day.. not a proper resort.. its run down old.. mouldy smells..and horrible public baths

Villa Bacuranao: enjoyed my stay

The hotel was fine for basic accommodation....grounds were maintained and the view of the ocean was great. The eating area had a lovely outdoor area. The pool was fine, although somewhat crowded on weekends. Breakfast was included and I have no complaints there. I would stay again at this hotel.

Blau Arenal Habana Beach: Quite enjoyable

We stayed at the hotel at the end of April. We arrived well past midnight and were put in a room on the ground floor with a strong musty smell. We tried to leave the windows open to get rid of the smell, but it didn't work. The next day we complained at the reception and were given another room upstairs which was okay. The room was cleaned every day and the cleaning lady did a wonderful job. The food was plentiful, we loved fresh fruit and juices in the morning. The food, however, tasted quite [... read more] bland. There was a lot of it, though. The staff was generally nice and helpful. The only thing we didn't enjoy was a loud music at the pool and at the beach. And perhaps we would have preferred to hear a lovely "hola" as a greeting from the local staff instead of "ciao" or "buongiorno". However, the resort caters mostly to an Italian clientele and it was evident everywhere.

Blau Arenal Habana Beach: Amazing resort

I love the italian culture and speak the language a bit so I really enjoyed our stay at the hotel. People is adorable and so friendly. Great gardens, food is great with lots of fresh local fruits, a grill that my husband and I enjoyed every meal, Cuban rice is delicious, Bar is great, fantastic mojitos, pina colada, a great espresso, cappuccino with local liquors was fantastic. Hotel Atlantico: Close to Havana with the beach

As hoped, facility was clean and food better than average. Daily free bus to Havana. Recommended unless you are used to a 5 star hotel. Beach very nice, close to city and felt safe in the area. Expect a good 3 star hotel.

Blau Arenal Habana Beach: Bravo Club Hotel Arenal

I was very impressed with the resort. Having travelled to Cuba in the past, I was a bit hesitant to return. This was a quiet, accommodating, and comfortable resort. I was impressed with the food at this resort. There was good variety, quality and taste (very different from my previous visit to Cuba). The staff was friendly and willing to go out of their way to accommodate our needs. The beach is a short walk from the resort but is beautiful. The beach is staffed with qualified and attentive lifeguards. I would definitely recommend the Arenal.
