We spent the week with our family (4 adults and a baby) and we had a great time. The hotel accommodations were exactly what we expected (i.e. no unpleasant surprises). The housekeeping staff did a great job maintaining our room several times a day. Never saw them in our room, but they were always in the hallways. Communications difficult as they didn't speak english, but then no words are required if they are doing their job well. We rewarded them accordingly.
This was our second stay at a Royal[... read more]ton, and it lived up to our expectations. The grounds were immaculate and the grounds crew were very visible every day, making sure everything was in it's proper place. The public washrooms were always well maintained and the cleanliness was outstanding.
The dining facilities were very impressive (as expected) and our favourite restaurant was the Hunter steakhouse. We all agreed the steaks were some of the best we have ever tasted (even compared to Jacobs in Toronto). The buffet or the "Marche" as they referred to it was outstanding as we had most our breakfasts and lunches there. If the restaurants weren't so good, we could have eaten all our meals there. However, all the restaurants had something special about them that kept us coming back. All the staff were well versed on responding to our "Thank-you's" . They always responded with "It's my pleasure" ( and it sounded like they actually meant it) versus the "No problem" you commonly hear in our local facilities. One of our favourite places to visit several times a day was the "Cafe Bar". Great drinks and desserts served by very courteous and friendly staff. The patio staff serving drinks around the pool were also very friendly and courteous.
The only negative thing we could find about this resort was the ocean water was dirty and the water was very rough. Therefore, we spent very little time on the beach. However, we aren't beach people so our normal behaviour on an island vacation is lazing around the pool. The only other negative point is I picked up some "sand flea bites" on our second to last night there (evening beach party) and it has taken over a week to get rid of them. A friendly suggestion would be to use some insect repellant in the early morning or late evening visits to the beach.
Overall, we continue to be very satisfied with Sunwing as a service provider. They own the airlines and the hotels. Brilliant business model on their part.

Royal Treatment at the Royalton
Loved our experience at the Royalton Cancun. The staff were amazing, always wanting to help. It was my friends birthday and they upgraded our room, sent cake, champagne & balloons. The food was amazing! One thing to note is to bring bug spray - the flies were bad when we were there. Not that big a deal though.

It was fabulous!
The hotel was amazing! The service and the professionalism of the employees was the best I have ever seen. They don't even expect a tip when they serve you. I would highly recommend this hotel for any one! The only negative opinion people could have is about the beach. People need to understand that it is a conservation area for sea turtles so I did not mind. The location is not near anything so that could be a con for people but it is really close to the airport. If you plan on not leaving the [... read more]resort it is perfect! The food at the resort is amazing as well, even if you do not want to wait for a restaurant, the buffet has all you need.

Amazing Place
Only thing i did not like is there Diamond Club allows children. If you book the hideaway section you are not allowed to go into diamond. To many drunk adults with kids around do not agree with this happening.

Overall really good
Resort was nice and new, some issues with rain leaks but seems typical for the tropics. Main pool was under repair so the other pools were very busy opened on our last day, not a pool girl so really didn't care! The sandy beach was nice, lots of seaweed early in the week a bit of a stench and the water was merkie and brownish! Staff were busy trying to clean up as much as possible. Service was fantastic, staff were always cleaning and super friendly. Small problem with our reservation upon arriv[... read more]al but fixed very quickly and to my satisfaction. Spa was amazing, recommend the massage and the bonus hydro therapy before. Food was very good in some restraints and okay in others- this is a hard one to comment on as everybody has different tastes. Have to say Hunters and Zen were my favourites. Overall good vacation, went for R and R and that's what I got! Pretty close to the airport 20 minutes so fast commute to the resort, only resort in the area so quite!

Good time at Royalton
First of all this was my first time at a Royalton resort so my expectations were a little high.
Two of the pools were under construction when I was there (including the main pool that is shown in the photos as a selling point). The hottub was repaired by the end of our trip. Just an FYI if there is still construction going on, it goes until about 8pm every night.
The food was great and have no complaints. We ate at all restaurants except Agave. The steakhouse was my favourite.
We had to switc[... read more]h rooms and loved our housekeeper from our second location Victor. He definitely takes the time to make things perfect.
The beach does have a seaweed issue, not the resorts fault but just something to keep in mind. Also, we had paid to go kayaking (3.00 US each), and then ended up not getting to go out due to garbage and they refused to refund us. We didn't end up being able to go out on the water at all.
We had gone to Playa Del Carmen on Halloween ($50 there and $50 back). I found that you will get different information depending on who you ask, the city cabs can go passed the front gate, the front desk will tell you otherwise and say it is $15 USD to get from the road to the main lobby. Didn't happen for us. Anyways so we get back and the place was deserted it wasn't very happening for a Saturday night, not sure if it's a day everyone leaves or what.
Overall we had a great time despite the construction. I don't know if I would go back there but I'm sure once it is all setup and running properly it would be amazing.

Upscale Resort, The Royalton - Mexico
Very new, modern; hotel type feel; would not know you were in Mexico; accommodation and staff service, food EXCELLENT! Close to the airport therefore, no long bus ride. Resort needs shuttle service to either Playa or Cancun if you wish to explore; otherwise expensive to venture off resort. Children pool area under repair/construction going on and we were not informed prior to trip nor did we enjoy all the amenities that we were entitle to. For example: Infinity pool. Thank you Cameron Richings o[... read more]f Trip Central Staff, looking forward to working with you in the near future.

Luxury Hotel
We had a fantastic time from start to finish. The service was top notch, food incredible and the atmosphere was wonderful. The only thing I would watch for is the first day or so they do pressure you to buy time share with them . Once you say no they will leave you alone.
The hotel room was luxury, it had a jacuzzi and we also had a terrace. The best accommodations we ever had. Also fridge fill daily and satellite tv and room service.
The shows were wonderful. We also had free phone calls to Canad[... read more]a and free wi-fi We have done a lot of travelling and by far this is the best we have stayed at. Staff were wonderful!

Immaculate setting...
Talk about luxury & the Royalton should rest in the upper echelons. Pristine ocean views especially at sunrise, over-indulging restaurants, tasteful accommodations and an attention to detail type staff. Although only ten months old, and still on the last bits of its' teething process, the Royalton delivers with several pools to wet the appetite if the ocean if just a view for you wherein that case, there are beautifully situated bars, hammocks and loungers. Not all is perfection as mentioned wit[... read more]h the teething process - the Kids pool area is still under construction and there is lots of seaweed that washes up on the shore - for us it wasn't bothersome but for others it might be. The only other complaint it that the resort is one, approx 2km, winding road from the entrance, taxis are pricey, to walk it can be challenging but the resort fulfills you enough that to get off the 'reserve', a simple excursion booking will serve you well. My trip was only 4 days but for an 'in & out' - was truly worth my time and money...and that sunrise...things nothing can buy!

Relaxing holiday
Superb amenities esp restaurants. Clean. Compact layout. Attentive staff. Quality issues: some uneven stairs; general trip and fall risks; pool deterioration. Perimeter rooms had mosquito issues. Much more sun shelter needed for 'regulars' ex palapas at beach. 'Class system' restricted too many obvious areas for Diamond and Hideaway (one of two main pools plus their own). Very good experience overall.

The Marche[... read more]' Buffet, great variety. The Zen restaurant FANTASTIC!!! Italian restaurant, also very good food. A BIG THANK YOU to Jorge A from TravelSmart, he helped us when we arrived, explained everything we needed to know for our stay, always nice and helpful during our stay. He made us feel very welcomed and would definitely go back. BTW I won the Karaoke competition. yay! The only thing that was disappointing was the beach- SEAWEED everywhere, cannot go in the water at all. Because of this I will rate beach/pool only GOOD for the pools. This is something the hotel can not control. Gracias Royalton!!!

Good resort
Nice resort with a good variety of food, nice a la carte restaurants and great service. However I wouldn't give this place a five star because the nightly entertainment was the worst of any resort I've ever been too. The main location of the theatre is brutal and even if you're are lucky enough to get a decent seat you still can barely see the show. But overall a good experience... well minus all the mosquitos that is.

Good Resort
We were overall impressed with the resort. It is a very large resort and were for the most part, impressed with the service and facilities. We weren't a big fan of the check-in process where you are paired with a concierge who reviews the facilities and services for an hour or so and at the end invites you to attend a "session" the next day. Says it's not time share but we declined so not sure exactly what it was about.
Our check-in time was supposed to be 3:00pm but didn't get our room until 3[... read more]:30pm. We arrived at 10:30am that morning and would have liked to get into our room at least on time if not early.
The food was great everywhere we went, never had to wait for a table. The only food issue was the lobster dinner on the beach which was not too well organized. We were given our seats, lined up for dinner and when we went back to our table, our seats had been given away and we had to sit at the bar above, waiting for our cutlery, etc. so our food got cold. We stayed in the Hideaway section which always had some great entertainment pool side. Our server Paulino constantly checked to make sure we were okay and had drinks or water.
Rooms were nice, but didn't really care for the bathtub in the main room. Also, when I ran a bath, a film came out and coated the side of the bathtub. Didn't use it again after that.
The worst part about this resort is the beach. There was lots of seaweed. Nothing the resort can do about it, but if you like to swim in the ocean, it's not the greatest.

Very good, not great...yet.
Grounds are clean and resort is nicely designed. Beach is very nice, soft white sand however water was hit and miss. Some days the Sea grass was only a few steps in and once you pass it, nice swimmable water. Some days not so much. Beach volleyball and beach bars are plentiful and there's always some entertainment. We stayed in Diamnd club and had no issues walking into an a la carte restaurant within 2 minutes. The Diamond section always has staff working hard to please you . Shout out to Jorge[... read more]- entertainment staff, Sergio- swim up bartender and all the staff that treated us fantastic. We had one issue that my wife and little girl were really upset about. We were celebrating my 40th, kinda of a big deal. Diamond club "butler" service is supposed to take care of any bday details and such. Well apparently I was supposed to have a cake at the Japanese restaurant and champaign in the room when we got back. Well neither happened and our butler said he gave info to another butler and well, nothing happened. the fact that they say they take care of the special occasions and nothing happened really upset my family. Moving on, food was very good ( Hunter Steak house) top shelf steaks and Zen the Japanese was awesome, buffet worked well. Didn't care for Opa( Greek restaurant) and Italian was fine but nothing great. We missed a few restaurants because of late days in the pool and just headed to buffet. Lunch at the beach bar was perfect as well. Premium alcohol is available (grey goose, crown royal) and if they don't have it, you just tell them and they'll get it. Night time shows were actually quit good and our little girl (7)had a good time. Kids club missed the mark, seemed more like a daycare/jail for little ones and she went once but said it was boring. The splash park was a huge reason why we chose this resort but again it was meh. The water is very low and when she would slide down the slides into the water, she would hit the ground a little hard. It's more suited for 2-4 year olds more or less. A lot of people mentioned the broken tiles and it is true, there are a lot. We played a game to see who could find tiles in the water and it was easy. There was a child while we were there that took 7 stitches in his finger because of reaching for a toy and caught a broken edge of a tile. We love the riviera and usually go to smaller resorts (Sensatori,Eldorado Seaside) but the diamond club felt perfect. Met great people and would go back if the price was right.
