We really enjoyed our stay. Room was average, but the beach was fabulous. Buffet was good, always something to eat. A la carte were delicious. Staff were friendly, funny and always helpful. Golf course is beautiful, we will return next year.

Paradisus Rio De Oro: Quiet and relaxing
We have been here many times before, and booked again because there was a great deal available. It felt as if we had the whole resort to ourselves- there were much fewer guests because of the Thomas Cook travel issues from the UK, so it was truly quiet. The weather was good, hot and humid, but the ocean and pools were warm. The beach was very clean, and waves were minimal. This time, there were many mosquitoes and bugs in the evening, and even repellant did not help, but that cannot be controlle[... read more]d. There were a few issues with our initial room, but these were satisfactorily resolved. We spent a few days at the main resort and the balance at Royal Service. We found the food quality was improved overall, and there was always something fresh that one could choose from. The live musicians still perform at the beach restaurant, and are as great as ever. Snorkelers were happy with the clear ocean and wealth of fish and coral to see on the reef directly accessible from the resort. In general, the resort needs some updates and reno work, but for the price, beautiful scenery and good service from the personnel, it was well worth coming here. In comparison with other places in Cuba, and even with some of the new resorts, we still prefer this one. There is a large area for walking, no high-rise buildings, scenery and landscaping, ocean and pool, spa services (incidentally, prices are now more reasonable! And the salt water pool and private beach are lovely), with an excellent staff rresort-wide. These are our main requirements, and thus, we look forward to our next visit!

Melia Marina Varadero: No to Melia Marina, Yes to Melia International!
We arrived at the Melia Marina Varadero on October 22nd in the early afternoon. On the outside this is a very pretty hotel right on the Marina with great views. However, we quickly discovered there was no running water or air conditioning in the facility. We were told that the problem was being worked on but by the evening we had to request to be transferred to another hotel as there was still no water or a/c. We were sent across to the Melia Tryp Peninsula hotel in the evening and spent our [... read more]first night at this resort. It was a substandard hotel and not the modern facility we had paid for at the Melia Marina Level section. We contacted the Sunwing rep that evening and the next day we were transferred to the Melia International. This hotel is the newest resort in Varadero and very upscale and to the standard we expected. Once settled at the Melia International, the rest of our vacation went beautifully. Special thanks to Hector at Sunwing who helped us get our vacation back on track and our onsite rep, Orlando. Would definitely return to the Melia International! It is a beautiful hotel with great service and very good food and wine by Cuba standards.

Melia Las Americas: Great time
Having been to many resorts around Cuba , I was pleased to find out the hype about Amelia Las America’s was dead on. The entertainment was the best I and my friends have experienced in Any resort. The staff were fun and very professional. Kudos too Elizabeth the Sales Manager Will the waiter. They went above and beyond to make our Golf trip a super experience. The layout of the property was second to none for convenience and beauty. The buffet was the best I have experienced with a good[... read more] variety and tasty on top of that.

Paradisus Rio De Oro: Wonderful Resort
this hotel is well looked after, the grounds are beautiful, some of the furniture is uncomfortable / too large and low / some things are in need of repair
the food is good - you'll always find something to eat
the service is good - sometimes it's inconsistent - one day a server came by very regularly the next day was very sporadic

overall - it is a great resort with wonderful staff - I would go back

Tryp Cayo Coco: Dated Resort
Hotel was visibly damaged during Hurricane Irma 2 years ago. Grounds are still being salvaged. Half of the resort was closed completely to be restored. Standing water in pond by snack bar has foul smell. Pool was nice but pool bar ran out of most alcohol each day and shut down by 5pm. We started out in building 2 in an extremely dated room - bathroom door did not shut, toilet did not flush, beds creaked terribly. We upgraded on our third day to building 6. Room was so much nicer. Service by hote[... read more]l staff was wonderful - shout out to Sandro at the Snack Bar - walked my 27 year old daughter back to her room one night to avoid an obnoxious guest. Front desk staff was wonderful to deal with as well. Keep track of your beach towels, they have to be signed in and out to avoid charges at check out. We had 2 go missing from the pool area. Food is what it is in Cuba...you don't go to Cuba for the food lol.
Frank, a nighttime security guard is to be avoided. Extremely inappropriate comments and propositions were made to some of the younger girls in our group.
Beautiful beach! Beach bar was very small and consistently ran out of stock.
Nightly entertainment was fantastic. AC worked very well in the rooms. No spa on site. Not all A La Carte Restaurants were open and the ones that were, were fully booked every day.
We chose this resort as there was a group we were traveling with that was already booked. Won't visit again.

Sol Rio de Luna y Mares: only thing good was the beach
Same menu for lunch & supper every day. There were not enough fruits & vegetables, not even pineapples or mangos, mostly rice. Not all items on the menu were available at the Snack Bar. A la carte restaurants were ordinary. We went in mid-October, is this the reason why there was a limited variety of food?
On the Tripcentral, it was noted to be good for snorkeling, it was not, found only one area that has life. We spent our days at the beach, it was very clean & sandy (no seaweed). The peopl[... read more]e are very friendly & cordial.
Note that if you walk along the beach you can only go so far, because you are in a bay. The resort next door had a rocky beach

Sol Palmeras: Sol Palmeras 2019
Went in September 2019 for a wedding. Hotel was clean for being on the ground floor but I always bring bug spray just in case. Staff were respectful and kind. No entertainment throughout the day/night other than the disco on the resort. Depending on the type of stay you’re looking for— But found this resort to be quieter.

Paradisus Rio De Oro: Excellent
This was our fourth time in Cuba, first time in Holguin. It was the best spot in Cuba, thus far, and the best hotel in Cuba we have been to. It is a mountainous region, lush, with lots of great things to do very close to the hotel. The beach is beautiful, slightly rocky right in front but sandy spot a few seconds down to get in. The water is very warm and the snorkelling is quite impressive right off the beach, better than all the snorkelling we have done in Cuba. The pool was cool and refreshin[... read more]g, clean all day, everyday. The food was very good, and a nice variety. Of course the drinks are plentiful, and the staff are mature, professional and very polite. The resort itself feels magical, with lots of trees and vegetation. The nature park is very close with hiking, horseback riding and reef fishing, ask for Orlando to take you out. Great morning out on the reef. We are not normally travellers that return to the same place, but we definitely will be back to this resort. Hot water in the shower, every. Time. !!!

Melia Jardines del Rey: Will never go back
The hotel was decent but the front desk staff were extremely rude and not helpful at all. They ran out of food on our second day and the resort was half deserted. The main pool was shut down and we had to use a small pool that was green by day three cause it was not maintained. Will never go back to this resort

Paradisus Princesa Del Mar: Just Not Sure.... likely no
Thank You for the chance to review this resort after my stay Oct 8-15, 2019
Is this a 4-5 star greeting? On immediate arrival to resort after traveling since 3am I was extremely disappointed in the gentleman who greeted my group off the airport bus. He was more interested in upselling then ensuring a quick and comfortable check-in. He asked for our passports and handed them off to the woman behind the desk, and had us walk off and down a hallway for his sales pitch. I did request numerous times[... read more] for my passport to be returned to me, to which he laughed-off and told me to relax it would be soon. After 4 requests, his small talk and completely being blow off, I approached the woman at the desk and told her I would just like to check-in and have my passport back. I was refused, and she pointed to the upselling gentleman and said she could do nothing until he gave her the okay. While trying to sell to me one on one and numerous other guests at the same time this man would disappear for a few minutes and return, have a few words with me and back to others. I was beyond upset and exhausted continuing to ask for my passport to be returned and check-in, as I was traveling alone, thirty and exhausted. Eventually I had no choice but to walk off to find water and return to be told to go down and find the bell-boy. After locating this person, I was only told to go back to the desk to get further instructions. After waiting again, I was told to go back to the bell-boy and request to be taken by cart to a different check-in area. This all took over an hour. At that point I as walked back and forth to 2 separate rooms to view before finally agreeing on a final place to rest. Just to be very clear - this entire process actually ruined by stay at this resort, especially having my passport taken from me and not returned on request. It took me 3 FULL DAY to be able to relax and let go of what happened at reception. Additional issues in Royal Service area - I was not informed that alcohol etc. and coffee were on request only every single day, there was no milk offered as well. The toilet was not working correctly on arrival, and I requested twice for it to be service over my stay. 1 day the sewage stench from the bathroom was overwhelming. The air conditioner DID work, the bed was comfortable, the balcony and view were okay. The bathroom sink was completely plugged, and I waited until my room was serviced before I was able to have use of sink, instead I used the bathtub to brush my teeth. No coffee on morning in my room even after requesting it. Key cards stop working, beach towel service either not open or out of fresh towels for the day. Its very rare I am able to vacation. I’m just not sure I would spend my hard-earned money for a stressful stay like this again?
Be informed that the bug bites were awful at this resort beach, for this reason I did not stay on the beach which was bare likely for the same reason. Bring repellant and after bite and loads of Benadryl
Good things, staff (other then reception) were polite, butler service was okay, kind and helpful. Grounds were maintained. Pool was maintained, good music. Bar servers wonderful, entertainment OK. Food was just okay but I did not expect amazing. Note: not visiting Cuba to eat Chinese or Japanese food. Often when ordering off the menu of 4 choices, I was not served what was ordered due to items not being available. Strange that restaurants would be closing for that day when you have a reservation set? In that case it looks like loads of restaurant choices, but you will need to eat at least 3x at one due to closures. I did pack and intend to use the gym and yoga service. 99% of equipment in the gym was out of order, do not count on treadmill and bikes, they are all out of service and looks like they have been for years. Yoga room was overwhelmingly hot, I did one class but could not return, Spa was okay but stood in ankle deep water while showering and could not locate towels.
Realizing now I would likely not return to this resort.

Paradisus Princesa Del Mar: Great Beach - Cuban Food
I had hoped that a 5 star resort would have better food. I guess not.
The Japanese Alacarte was great. The International Alacarte was terrible. People were leaving in between their meal, because the food was so bad and the service was so slow.
The beach was great. The pool was great.
The chairs on the beach are getting old and saggy.
The towels were new. That was nice.
Our room was OK.

Paradisus Princesa Del Mar: Paradise
Beautiful resort, nice and clean, a bunch of specialty resturaunts. 24hr snack bar (burgers, hotdogs, grilled cheese, sandwiches). This resort is one of 3 in Varadero that has an actual bank on site (24hrs) so you get the best exchange rate. Waiter drink service on the beach, and a beach bar. Beach is all sand, water weed free. Some first floor rooms have private hot tubs outside on their porch. Lobby bar has more variety of drink, but it costs a few bucks (Crown Royal, CC, various other bra[... read more]nds). They give a bunch of coupons and discount for Royal Service and Massages, which I did not take part in so cannot comment. No sunscreen or Aloe to be found on resort or any surround resorts, so bring lots. I have been to Cuba a bunch, this was the best resort yet. Buffet food is what it is, bring some hot sauce or whatever else you like to make it a little more to taste. Enjoy your trip :)

Melia Buenavista: Quiet friendly resort
We have stayed at this resort now three times. It is a quiet small resort for adults only. We have gotten to know some of the staff there and they are all very polite and helpful and in particular our butler, Daymi, is always very helpful.
The food is slightly better than average for Cuban resorts. But we do not go for the food we go for the beach.
In this resort they have three beaches our favourite one is the deeper one where you can do snorkelling right off the beach. Totally amazing.
[... read more]
All the rooms are very nice. There is a living room area with the fridge separate from the bedroom area and the bathroom and showering area is also separated. It is very typical of a Melia resort. We enjoy it very much.
The downside of this resort is that it is on the pricey side usually even more expensive than a Royalton. It is a very small resort though.
We will definitely be going back.

The Hotel shows its age but its still a very nice hotel and staff are amaizing, being the low season the food was repetitive but good. The beach is one of the best..just stunning and so are the grounds. Lots of music at night and lots of little patio to sit outside, I loved it.

Paradisus Princesa Del Mar: Beautiful Resort
The grounds were immaculate and the staff was friendly. Had a problem with staff honouring our room upgrade. Talked to management, they agreed to honour the upgrade after a discussion. Beach was beautiful. Tempanyaki restaurant was fun. Pro tip: don't order the lobster dinner.
