Finest Punta Cana: Great Family Resort
The grounds, rooms, facilities are well suited to multi-generational families. Lots of adults only space and the food can appeal to all.
Service was excellent as was the food. The only problem With The food was that it was often overcooked and dry. At least they know how to do tuna.

Lopesan Costa Bavaro Resort: Overall good but expected more
The grounds are very beautiful, lush and can tell a lot of time/money went into landscaping. Outdoor and aesthetically, it looks superb. The footprint of the resort is huge. The Boulevard seems to be mainly unexplored/untapped area that either few know about or frequent because it's a bit of a walk? Anytime we went there, the main courtyards and sitting areas were all empty. Lobby is grand, well decorated and clean (likely because it was mostly always empty). You can tell a lot of money was inve[... read more]sted in the kids waterpark, theatre (very big and state of the art), however that entire area was empty a lot of the time.
Public areas could be considerably cleaner. Unfortunately lots of people didn't clean up after themselves and garbage was lingering by the pool and other places. The tables by the pools also didn't see to be wiped down frequently (if at all). The beach was disappointing. Lots of seaweed and no attempts to clean it up, water overall was cloudy and not great to swim in. Very shallow swim area and there were tons of yachts "parked" right in front which I have never seen at other resorts and didn't love.
Rooms are nice and as shown in the pictures. Some wear starting to show but overall was happy with the state of them. Some staining on the bedding but overall decent. We paid for the swim out room. While it was nice, the water was super cold and didn't get any sun until late afternoon so we didn't get as much use out of it as we had hoped. For the additional $1500 (per couple) it was definitely not worth it and would personally not recommend for the price point. The rooms otherwise are exactly identical.
Dining was mediocre at best. Cleanliness definitely needs to be improved. The buffet seemed to be hit or miss with items being randomnly placed in areas, unappealing and needing some more TLC. The tables could using more cleaning and the placemats too (had a lingering stench that was not great). Lots of use of plastic & styrofoam (have been to other resorts in DR that seemed more eco-conscious and had recycling systems in place). The overall presentation at the buffet is much less than what I would expect for a 5 star resort. While we didn't go there for the food, it would have been nice for this to check off more of the boxes. It also didn't help that 2 people in the group got food poisoning/traveller's diarrhea. Drinks are the same at each bar/restaurant. Special drinks not listed on the menu and need to know to ask for them. Definitely tasted better at some bars vs others.
There is no limit on a la cartes and you can book through the app which was convenient but the food at the restaurants was not that much different than the buffet. Would recommend the French restaurant first and foremost. The Yolo restaurant (located in the Boulevard) had an authentic tasting menu that we unfortunately didn't have time to try but looked interesting. Not sure if it's because it's not central to most other hotel amenities but this restaurant was always empty!
Service - most of the employees are friendly, some more than others. More reserved than at other resorts I have been to which I didn't mind but there may also be a language barrier.
Additional pros: free room service/menu, Michael Jackson show as quite good,
Additional cons: no swim up bar, everyone puts towels down on chairs so if you don't also wake up early and do the same you're not getting a chair at the pool or beach,
Overall, we had a good experience but was expecting more for the price point. Would recommend if the above negatives don't bother you. Unsure if I would return in the future but leaning towards no due to cleanliness and beach.

Royalton Hideaway Punta Cana: Best Ever Trip to Punta Cana
Probably the best resort I have stayed in, and I have stayed in quite a few all-inclusives. The people were super friendly, whether at the bar, restaurants, or the buffet. The Jade restaurant, along with the Dorado were our favorites. The Teppenyaki Japanese was also excellent, and the buffet had a wide and varied choices that were delicious. But in the end, it's the people that are always smiling and going the extra distance to ensure you are enjoying your vacay. We mostly spent the time doing [... read more]R&R around the pool and beach. We did not take any excursions this time, as we've been to Punta Cana and "been there-done that". But this was the best ! Special thanks to a few of the many people we met : Juan & Greisy @ the pool bar, Jenniffer and Sylvia at the Hideaway reception, and Sugeidy at the Dorado restaurant. You all made our vacay the best ever. Thank you so much for everything ! Special mention to Fernanda the cat, who was always checking up to make sure we were happy and well. I highly recommend this resort for those looking for wonderful people, great food, and clean & comfortable resort. Impeccable.

I wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone you have one pool on the site not allowed to visit any other resort ,the beach has so many people that it's impossible to go to and 15 minutes walk or the little bus to drive you, the food was good but always cold the show are repeated every 2 days and if you wanted to see the Dominican show you had to pay 25 us, and the guys for the suitcases and the entertainment asked for A BIG TIP wow first time I see this and I went to Punta Cana many times

Hotel was pretty and beach was amazing but not all of the restaurants are included and you needed to pay extra. The buffet at the other property we couldn’t use either. I feel like it was advertised as 2 resorts for 1 but it wasn’t. The water park was amazing though and pools were clean.

Bahia Principe Grand Bavaro: Hotel/tripcentral review
Bahia Principe Grand Bavaro villas #30 and up, BEWARE!! They call these rooms superior suites, not even close! They are old and falling apart, the musty smell when we got to the room was overwhelming. The room and adjoining room was invested with mosquitos and there were tiles missing in the flooring. We paid to upgrade to a premium room and that was worth every penny, villa #22. These villas appear new and are very modern as well as being close to the beach.

Dreams Onyx Resort and Spa: I hate to say it . . .
We travel to DR almost annually and always stay at the same resort. This year we wanted to switch it up and try somewhere new. We travelled on 12/30/23 and were staying for 10 days. I always try to see the good in situations and would never take the time to write a negative review, but Dream Onyx was so disappointing! We arrived late due to flight delays (we rolled in about 11:30pm). We got to our rooms and they smelt musty and smoky. We went right to the fridge where we found a couple beers and[... read more] some pops - no snacks or liquor. I found empty beer cans behind the vanity, light in shower was burnt out and our kids rooms thermostat was broken. I called room service because we hadn't eaten since 11am. I apologized for calling so late (what can I say, I'm Canadian) - they were soooo rude!! I was speechless at the way they spoke to me. The rest of the week was just ok. The beach is beautiful and the pools were ok. Be prepared for an early rise (5am) to get a lounger at the pool or beach. The music around the resort was so loud. It started at 9am and you could still hear the music from the Breathless resort next door until 3am. Rooms were cleaned daily, but fridges weren't restocked. We had to get water bottles from the gym. The food was so disappointing - the buffet (a lot of nothing) was horrendous - everything was cold and never restocked, counters were messy it was so AWFUL!! The steakhouse and Italian restaurant were good. By day 7 we just ate the mini sandwiches from the cafe or burgers at the beach bbq because by then we all had stomach issues. The breakfast buffet was so bad that we started drinking Bloody Marys for breakfast haha! The Lazy River and the waterslides were great. All the parties were fun; especially New Years Eve and the Beach Party. Unfortunately we'll never go back mainly because of the food situation. Dreams Onyx is a 3 star Max.

Bahia Principe Grand Bavaro: beautiful place
The grounds were well maintained, the public areas were cleaner than most I've seen down south, the rooms were clean and spacious BUT a fan in the bathroom is a must and the shower door is not big enough to stop the floor of the room from getting soked. Wyndham Alltra Punta Cana: Beautiful resort
We loved the Jewel grounds and pool. We knew the hotel was closing for renovations so we were not surprised that the rooms needed an update.
The food was very tasty and the restaurant had a first come first served policy. There was some confusion at the Italian restaurant with our orders.

El Beso Adults Only at Ocean El Faro: Beautiful resort
Our stay from January 7 to 14 was very relaxing. The grounds are beautiful and well maintained. The À la Carte restaurants were excellent. We tried Japanese, Mexican, Italian, Steakhouse and French and lots of variety at the buffets. Unfortunately, the whole resort was without hot water for about 24 hours so cold shower was not too pleasant. Beach was not the best I've seen... lots of coral. Zel Punta Cana - All Suites: You get what you pay for
This resort has passed its hay day..felt it was kinda run down and lots of features were not well maintained i.e drawers and cupboards in room were broken..shower and toilet doors did not close. Took 5 days for hotel staff to repair faulty TV in our suite.
Took 4 hours for house keeping to bring toilet paper as the did not replace it when they serviced the room.
Generally the staff were friendly but not very well trained and lacked knowledge of amenities and services. Every time we had a requ[... read more]est they did not know the answer and never got back to us with information we requested.
The food was very mediocre and in most cases over cooked and bland. Lacked variety and every day was the same menu. The specialty restaurants were a welcome change but also lacked flavor and did not come close to what was described by the server.
The Nexus bus service was very inflexible when we requested a pick up they wanted pick us up 5 hours ahead of our flight. As a result we had to pay for a taxi to the airport as we did not want to wait for 5 hrs at the airport.

Grand Sirenis Punta Cana Resort: Ok resort…
The rooms were really nice and the lady who cleaned our room was wonderful! They were very humid and smelled musty. I would be freezing because the air and fans were on but if they were turned down or off it was humid. I did like that in the family suite they had a divider.
The grounds were beautiful but there were a lot of garbage in and around the bushes.
Most of the employees were great there were a few that were not so great. The man who checked us into the resort was awful. Made us wait[... read more] for an hour to see about putting us and another family in the same villa and completely disregarded the fact I needed a ground floor and to be close to the lobby because of my disability. Instead put us in the farthest one possible. When other staff seen me struggling to walk to the villa, they immediately changed our room and were very much accommodating.
I did not like that they do not have golf carts that came around to assist people if they wanted to go to the beach or lobby. The resort is massive and they only have golf carts to shuttle the VIP people around.
If you have an issue walking DO NOT book this hotel. I had to rent a scooter because it was such a big place. They only have a golf cart to the water park but don’t be in a hurry they are on island time. Compared to Cuba (which is where I gone a few times) this is unacceptable. In Cuba they had golf carts coming around every 10-15 minutes asking people if they wanted a ride.
I also did not enjoy the buffet. The morning omelette station was good. Other than that it was awful. I think there was one good night we ate there because we missed our reservation due to an excursion. Oh, the a la carts were horrible. Worst than the buffet. We had the Brazilian, mediterranean and the French. We waited 1.5 hours for our food at the Mediterranean and it was awful. I didn’t even eat it. We missed the Japanese(which is suppose to be the best) and opted not to go to the steak house since our friend was extremely sick off the food at the French restaurant. I’m not a picky eater. I have been to Cuba 3x and had better food (if you can believe it) at least in Cuba the meals that they served were hot.the food at the buffet was cold. Cold nacho cheese for the nachos and broccoli. Most of the meat was cold. The only had a variety of cakes for dessert and ice cream.
The coffee shop/donut/gelato place located outside of the plaza was amazing.
Most of the games in the arcade were not in use but the staff there were wonderful! Assisted the kids with everything and were very friendly.
The entertainment was ok. The Micheal Jackson show was the best. All the kids entertainment was very late. The lady that did the kid shows was great. I feel as though it should have been put on earlier.
The app for all the things to do in the resort was useless.
The beach was lovely. Amazing burgers on the beach BBQ and the buffet at the beach/pool was better than the one in the lobby.
The water park was really fun the kids had a great time. Even my husband liked it. Although the slides are rough and they came out with bruises, they still enjoyed it. It was very clean and never busy so we could go down as much as we wanted.
The lobby store and the store at the water park was VERY expensive. It is $39US for a bottle of sunscreen. Take a walk along the beach and go to the Dominican Walmart. I struggle a lot with walking but I’m so glad I went. The guys there are so nice and helpful and sunscreen there was $10!
We did the pirate ship excursion. It was really good. The kids really enjoyed it and they were able to swim with the shark and some stingrays. They were also able to pay extra for the dolphin. The trip there was 45 minutes and the trip back over an hour so don’t believe them when they say it’s close. lol Mad Dog was the one who booked this excursion. He was great. Very friendly and gave us a great deal on it.
Overall I would rate this hotel a 3star. I wasn’t overly impressed with it. It was nice to get away but next time we do it will not be here.

El Beso Adults Only at Ocean El Faro: Nice Relaxing vacation (by choice)
We enjoyed our stay at this resort. We stayed on the adult only side. We wanted a quiet, relaxing vacation and for the most part, that is what we got. Our room overlooked the El Beso activity pool and it was very loud from 10 am to 5:30 pm, every day. Some of the "music" was very degrading to women and filled with swearing and disgusting lyrics. I know we all have different tastes in music, but if you want a quieter stay or enjoy an afternoon nap, ask for your room to be beside the quiet [... read more]pool, not the activity pool. The quiet pool was just that, quiet. We spent most of our time on the beach down by the lagoon. It was beautiful to take our floaties and just float in the lagoon. Unfortunately, the El Beso, Adults Only signs were too small and lots of people brought their kids over there, as the main beach was quite rough. The Lagoon is not on the property so anyone can go there, the issue was they took the chairs from the El Beso privilege area over to the lagoon or they just sat in the adults only area with their kids, leaving less room for those of us who paid for adults only. No one from the resort cared or did anything to stop people from taking the loungers over to the lagoon or from having their kids in the adults only area.
The food was ok. We certainly didn't starve but everything was overcooked. Our dinner in the steakhouse was sub par. The steak and the ribs were way overcooked and tough. We felt rushed through our meal, even though the place was over half empty. We enjoyed dinner at The Blue Moon. It was delicious and we had excellent service. there from Neomi. Sakura was tasty, but the rice was undercooked and all the meats were overcooked. We ate breakfast and lunch at Pez Dama (El Beso Adults only) almost exclusively. Clemencia greeted us by name every day and seated us at our favourite table. Miguel, Isaac, Ricardo and Melvyn were very pleasant every day. They were great and took good care of us. We also had a few evening meals there and they were very good. Dinner in the lighthouse was also very good.
We enjoyed the piano bar and the lobby bar. There was usually some entertainment there every evening. And we loved Yuli, the lobby bar supervisor. She was so kind and lovely. Yudelka and Yobildania make sure we had a drink when we wanted one.
Most of the staff were friendly, but some were definitely not, and would do anything rather than serve you.
Mikes coffee bar was excellent. Those folks work very hard all day as there is always a line up there. Nice place to have an afternoon pick me up.
Overall it was nice. Biggest complaints were that they allowed smoking in outdoor dining areas. We love to eat outdoors, but not when people are smoking. There should be designated smoking areas around the resort, away from the eating areas. The other complaint was the wine. There was one red, one white and one rose unless you wanted to pay for a bottle, even for privilege guests. The red wine was no better than grape juice.
We would go back.

Catalonia Bavaro Resort: If they have the chance to disapoint you they will
First the positives:
The grounds were beautiful. Kids loved the ducks and turtles on the property. The size was convenient, it felt easy to navigate but not too small. Beach was great, with lots of loungers and places to play. Wide enough to not feel crowded, long enough to go for a beachfront walk. Food was decent, and the drinks that are included in the package are all well made. Most bar staff will do what they can to help you. A La Carte restaurants were excellent, and food overall was ok.
[... read more]
Negatives:
Privelege was a waste of money. Trying to get enough towels in a day to your room was very painful. Calling front desk, leaving notes in Spanish (with $5 USD tips) and many other ways, always left us disappointed with house keeping. The pillows and mattresses were terrible. Getting room service was very difficult as well. The rooms were just ok, still basic, although some of the higher number buildings that have been renovated to privilege had slightly nicer rooms. No bottled water poolside or at restaurants, no wait service poolside. The Pizza place is always running out, this system should be revisited. A general feeling at the resort of if you want anything above and beyond their basic offerings, it won't happen.
I wouldn't go back, for a few hundred dollars more a person, you can get substantially more in Punta Cana. OR for a few hundred less, the same in Cuba.

Riu Republica: Resort review
Do your homework before you go to this resort. I didn't and it's a party resort. Kids drinking until they get so drunk. Saw them hurt and smashed. I have stayed at a Riu in Jamacia and Mexico. The standards and food were a much better quality. Hot tub broken. Air conditioning terrible. Toilets didn't flush. TV didn't work.
