We had a wonderful time at this resort. It was our first time.
Our house keeper Inoralvis was fantastic.
All the hardworking servers bartendes and staff in the kitchens. Carlos, Mario, Melissa, Osmund, Angel and many more. Were so welcoming.
The staff that stood out for us at this place were the Gardeners. Roberto, Jorge and Junior. They were kind and generous, and went out of their way to make this trip wonderful.
And of course a shout out to Madeline and Jose in public relations.., who m[... read more]ade our last day even better.
Thank you Brisas.

Sanctuary at Grand Memories Holguin: Amazing Hotel
Everything about the hotel is excellent—service, amenities, and accommodations are top-notch. However, the ocean right by the hotel leaves much to be desired. The waters are unusually rocky and heavily cluttered with seaweed, which can make swimming or lounging by the beach less enjoyable. This particular stretch of the ocean is not as pristine as one might hope, which somewhat diminishes the overall experience.

Royalton Hicacos Resort and Spa: Quiet resort
The beach is amazing, the bed mattress is really hard, food limited and shortage for many days, but didn't go hungry basically the same thing every day. No accessibility to elevator it was broken having to go to la carts or buffet there are many stairs so if you have any disability challenges, I can say it would be with a lot of difficulties, very friendly staff. Remember you're not in Cuba for the food. Lack of

Grand Aston Cayo Paredon Beach Resort: Overall a Great Resort!
The beach was fantastic and the hotel was legitimately nice! Our AC worked fine, nothing in the hotel was broken, even the Wifi was good. The lunch and snack options were convenient and sufficient, there's also a mini buffet by the beach - so you don't have to change/dry off for the main lunch buffet. The snack bar had burgers and ham + cheese sandwiches. The buffet food was a bit better than at other hotel's I've been too, still not amazing but there was always good options. The a la carte rest[... read more]aurants were quite good, and a nice change from the buffet.
It would've been nice to have chicken, pork and beef as options everyday at the cooking stations instead of cycling through them on different days. It was also disappointing how slow some of the cooks were, or leaving a station closed despite longer lines. Churros were great and I am glad it was an option, but it was random when it was offered and the line was crazy. They should at least have a schedule when its available. The pizzas are lacking, but we grabbed cheese, ham and pineapple from the buffet and it was great. They should put those items at the mini beach buffet so you can use them as pizza toppings (pizzas are at the same location).
Overall a great experience, maybe partly because we've been to Cuba before and knew what to expect. We brought ketchup, salt + pepper, and garlic mayo but they actually had salt + pepper and ketchup. The beach really was fantastic and is the main reason we chose Cuba, this hotel was right by a perfect spot too.

Melia Internacional: Cochroaches
We stayed at Melia Internacional Varadero from July 13-20, 2024. This is our third time in Cuba and this hotel was disappointing. They had no welcome drinks at the front desk and no bell person to help you find and bring suite cases to your room upon check in, which is fine and we can live without those services. When we arrived, our bed sheets and pillow cases were dirty like someone had previously slept in it so we went to the front desk twice to request them change it. They said they would c[... read more]all housekeeping to come to our room but 5 hours later when it was time to go to bed at 11pm, it still wasn't done so I went back to front desk and demand they call housekeeping while I was standing there to make sure they would send someone. The towels all looked dirty so I would recommend bringing your own. In our room, the toilet leaked and it was all we could hear while trying to sleep at night. There are two buffet restaurants but the food is the same at both and they often served spoiled, leftover food. Make sure you smell something first before you put it in your mouth and take only a small bite before you continue eating so you still have time to spit it out and avoid stomach issues. We met 2 families that got sick during their vacation - probably due to food poisoning and bug bites (make sure to bring insect repellent). There are cochroaches everywhere, including restaurants. I personally don't like getting my hotel room cleaned during vacation due to cross contamination of germs/viruses but by day 3, cochroaches were crawling around our room so we had to request them to clean it. The whole resort should get fumigated! Everything appears quite run-down and not very well maintained. Nightly entertainment was ok - they don't have a real stage or theater area. The beach is the best part of the resort - very clean and clear and no seaweed. Location of the hotel is great - near downtown and close enough to the airport to be able to get there quickly but far enough that you don't hear all the planes overhead. Because I don't like getting my room cleaned during vacations, I always put the do not disturb sign up. We noticed my parents did not have a sign so we asked for a sign for them. When we returned to our room, we were disappointed to see they took the sign off our door and put it on my parent's door - this is such lazy service! 99% of the staff are unsympathetic and look bored or unhappy to be helping - they made it seem like customers were such an inconvenience to them. The only happy, enthusiastic staff we met was Osvel at the Merkado buffet restaurant making omelets at breakfast and grilling porkchops at lunch. I think the people giving great reviews were either asked to give it or they upgraded to Level. I wish we brought our own beach towels because they rarely had clean ones we can exchange for. There are 5 A la Carte restaurants and for a 7 day stay, we were only allowed to book 3 restaurants - we cheated the system by booking 3 reservations under our room and then 2 under my parent's room lol. You have to keep reconnecting to wifi after 15 mins of inactivity which got annoying because the only time we could call my parents is if they were also connected to the internet. It also didn't help that the 2 phones in our room was not working. They don't usually like giving bottled water and the only drinks available are wine, beer, and rum - there is no Tequila, vodka, champagne, etc. Though the beach is beautiful and the location is great, I would not recommend this resort.

Playa Pesquero: Great resort
The resort was great, staffs were friendly . Beach is beautiful and clean. There wasn't much shows or activities during our 7days stayed sadly. Food: there are lot of foods but some were good, some were blanc. Not much of fruits there, seems like they feed us what available from their growth. So we have papaya, pineapple , mango and some can fruits daily.
Pool: pool there is for dipping, not swimming since they are only 1meter deep :).
The room: even if this was state as 5 stars hotel. It's on[... read more]ly look like 2.5- 3 stars as international hotel standard.
Keep in mind: DO NOT exchange Cuba peso money. But bring lot of $1 usd bill and usd for tips or purchase gifts, everything here price on usd .

Iberostar Origin Bella Vista Varadero: Amazing beach!
One of the best beaches ever!
Everything was great and staff were very friendly and helpful.
The food was excellent and varied.
The downsides were the very slow elevator.
The aging and stained bed lining.
The stained fabric chairs in the room.
Some moisture in the bathroom.
Once you overcome these elements, everything else is more than value for money.
Many things were missed even though the staff was extremely helpful and friendly.
The place was good as a stay and location within Varadero. However, many elements were missing or incomplete, such as the phones that never work, dining in restaurants that were never explained well so a week of restaurant booking is missed, dining rooms that are not kept in healthy conditions affecting the food safety and making the dining experience to the tourists extremely exhausting and uncomfertable, not [... read more]giving a tour of the grounds and explaining what is available to do.

Muthu Playa Varadero: Amazing Resort, good staff and nice clear water at the beach!
Fast check in and check out.
Elevators still doesnt work and our room was on the 5th floor but went to the lobby and asked the receptionist if we could move to 1st or 2nd floor and they said yes right away.
Staffs always have a smile on their faces every time they see us.
The rooms are always clean.
They clean every day.Changes towels and put new toilet paper.
We are not a picky eater, the buffet always serve eggs, hams, cheese, fresh fruits like papaya, guava, mango and watermelon. They can alwa[... read more]ys cook pork for you.Sometimes beef, chicken and fish. They have pasta, rice.
And to my surprise they have ketchup and garlic hot sauce and butter once.
You can reserve to eat at ala carte.
My kids enjoyed the pool and we enjoyed the beach.
We tried the sailing and they have lots of free water activities and they have shows every night.
We tried their massage.
We went to Delfinario and you can walk but we got a taxi and paid $5.
We had so much in this hotel.

Gran Muthu Almirante Beach Resort: Average resort
Let me start with, we all know Cuba is not really known for their food so getting that out of the way. Food here is delicious what little they do have and mostly the meat and beans. There is not a huge variety or meats and if you are a vegetarian or dont eat Pork then your choices are even more limited. The salads are the same everyday, there is fish at lunch and dinner. Breakfast has eggs everyday with pancakes you have to wait in line to get and they are hard. Anyway in a nutshell, food is ok.[... read more] There is just too many salads and aromatic oils. I survived on rice and bread some days. Same goes for snack bar. If u dont eat pork then u cannot have the hotdogs or beef burgers so it was just fries for us which were double fried and hard. Getting to drinks, they were so watered down. The choices were just wine, beer or juice. There was no pop and the one day we got coke, it was like sweet syrup and completely flat. We stuck to pineapple juice throughout even tho i tried other juices. Tamarind was ok and i must say the ice coffee at the lobby was really good.
The a la carte restaurants I went to were Indian, Asian and Italian. You don’t get menus, everyone gets the same tray which is sort of like “thali” and assortment of dishes. They were good I must say but the roti was hard and rubberlike. Everything else tasted good. Asian restaurant was good. The ambience was nice and entertaining. Food was good. Italian was ok, the idea of an appetizer bar is good, just wish they had labels on what there was. The waiters speak so fast it was hard to understand but overall i would say average. You do have to book these restaurants early as soon as u get there as they get booked pretty fast. We were lucky as we eat early so took the first time slot at 6:30pm. We did find they we were hungry around 4:30 but nothing for us to eat so luckily i had some nuts and granola bars to munch on before dinner.
Ok food done, now on to the beach which is lovely. Water is lovely but might suggest u have swim shoes as the ocean has a lot of rocks and broken coral even in the shallow end. You have to find a clear spot and then stay there. Getting a seat is obviously always a challenge everywhere so we always got to the beach at 8:45 and got the second row. We stayed till about noon, then left and went to the pool after lunch.
Towel service is shitty I must say. We got a towel the first day which is in our room and used it the next day. Changed it a day later and after that everytime i went to change it was closed as they were out of towels. We went 4 days without a clean towel and due to humidity the towels were not drying well so they started to smell. Considering its classified as a 5 star this was disappointing.
Seats at pools were reserved sometimes from the night before as we would notice some items still there the next day which is so not fair as sometimes people went on excursions and their items stayed there all day. There are lifeguards and there is a pool bar with the same watered drinks. There is a juice bar which is half decent. The pineapple juice there was way better than the rest of the bars although we realized after that the person that was making them was a substitute and when the actual employee for that bar returned it was just average. It is made fresh so I give that bonus points but not what we are used to but atleast better than the watered down juices.
The games and entertainment was ok. There was kids games and activities for adults to participate but not a whole lot of participation as people just wanted to relax and chill. I have to say their microphones are damn loud and they sound like they are screeching.
Ok night shows, so aqua show is good, i havent seen that before so that was well done. The white night is basically ballet with them dressed in white and international show is basically white night with colourful clothes. Then there was pirate night which i thought was gonna be fun as they asked us to wear swimsuits well it was just a band singing by the pool. It was all in Spanish and their voices were good but once again the microphones are so loud and i dont know music language but they were screeching almost. Then the power went out during the third song and it took a while to get it back.
Also just fyi the fire alarm goes off at all hours of the day and night due to people smoking in buildings. That is annoying as heck as they are loud and if u are a light sleeper then you will be awake every night.
Our first day we asked for wifi and were told we would get it next day and i was adamant as i needed to reach my kids so they gave me someone else’s which was ok. Then the next day i was asked to wait and is was not working but people i met said they got it. Anyway I finally got it and its very spotty so if u are a person that needs wifi constantly then this would not be for u. It does disconnect after a while when inactive and u have to log on again everytime.
I did use the spa. Prices are high but the massage was really good. Worth it.
We picked two excursions, swim with dolphins which was my first time and amazing. And we picked the farewell city tour as we had a late flight and no point hanging around the hotel with our carry ons. There was an advantage to this as we then get VIP boarding and lounge and can relax and have some drinks etc which were included. There is not a whole lot of food i have to say. Buns, tuna, mayonnaise, slice meet, olives and crackers and apple jam. Since i dont eat meat (pork) and dont like tuna i had the crackers bread and jam. Lol.
Also we noticed there was a bit of mold starting in places like the hallway to the indian restaurant, our washroom in the room as well as the baggage room etc so since this resort is fairly new it has gotten away with that but im sure as years go by they will have to fix that.
Overall the vacation was good just be prepared and have some snacks with u if u are a vegetarian or someone who doesnt eat pork.
I wouldn’t classify this resort as a 5 star. I went last year to a 4 star resort and it was way better than this so I would put it at 4 star.
If you have read all this you should know I take everything with a grain of salt and experience it all on my own. This was my experience that I mentioned above just in detail bcoz sometimes it’s nice to know before I go. I have been to various Cuba resorts so I know not to expect much in terms of food etc. Did I enjoy, yes! Would I go back here probably not. Only because Ive been to better places thats all.

Vila Gale Cayo Santa Maria: Incredible Family Vacation!
The Grand Sirenis in Cayo Santa Maria was a dream! Being there the first week of July was amazing. It is a resort that has a capacity of about 1600 and we visited when there were only about 250 other visitors. There were no lines for food or drinks. The staff was pleasant and took the time for all of the families!
Our family had two rooms across the hall from each other in Bungalow 2 and they were both clean and cheery! Modern decor and air conditioning was working 100%!
The beach was stunni[... read more]ng! Calm waters all hours of the day. We all went snorkeling and saw tons of fish, star fish and little stingrays. The walk along the beach is peaceful and gorgeous.
The entertainment staff at the Grand Sirenis went above and beyond for its guests! Caesar was always around for a great time! The evening shows were typical of Cuba and what others in 1st world countries would call low budget but the time and efforts the singers and dancers put into them was absolutely outstanding! Our family and many others were very thrilled with each event! The disco was fun too! We as parents felt very comfortable while our three teens stayed out in the evenings. They met so many others in their age group who also loved to dance the nights away! The foam party on the beach was a huge hit! The beach bar was super fun and Alex kept the drinks cold and coming! The beach grill was always hot and plentiful. Beach Volleyball happened at 10:30 every morning and all the teens were ready for action! Lester and Angel lead a 15 minute water aerobics session after volleyball!
Afternoon pool parties and Bingo were a blast! Bartender Josyvic was a joy to have around all day! The drinks were always flowing and so were the jokes!
Everyone asked about the food… it was awesome. No shortages. Always found something to fill your tummy. The snack bar was always bumping for the kids. We as a family tried two A La Carte restaurants and agree to “just always order the chicken dish”
Cato Santa Maria is a place for family fun on the beach! We will definitely return as we have found a new home away from home!
