Brisas Covarrubias: Horrible start...thank God it got better!

Be warned... This was my 6th trip to Cuba, visiting Varadero, Cayo Coco and Holguin. I have always loved Cuba and found the Cuban people to be so friendly and welcoming, on and off the resort. This trip was like nothing I have ever experienced. We had the misfortune of arriving on Friday afternoon (after the Cuban School Break) and what followed was 2 days of the worst customer service I have ever seen. After checking in around 2:30 and being told to come back at 3pm (usual time) to get our roo [... read more]m key we still waited 'in line' for 2 hrs, while local families butted in line, over and over, and hotel staff refused to make eye contact with us while giving out room after room to everyone else. If you couldn't speak Spanish or had money in your hand you were ignored. It was unbelievable treatment, both from other guests and staff and even witnessed a full blown argument (in Spanish) between a staff member and guest....awkward to say the least. Now, don't get me wrong, I have no problem waiting my turn, but I do have a problem with staff allowing this treatment from other guests to happen. How hard is it to form a line? Finally after all the local guests had been waited on we were finally given our room key, given no directions, no information on the resort...nothing. The next 2 days (weekend) was like living in a twilight zone. We continued to be ignored in every line up for food or drinks. We gave up even thinking about going near the pool as it was filled with fully clothed people and garbage...yes, in the pool! Garbage was all over the grounds as people just left all the plastic cups, plates and leftover food to blow in the wind. It felt like the staff just throw their hands in the air and gave up....can't blame them I guess, it was a losing battle. And then Monday came...all of a sudden it felt like a completely different resort. The staff were professional and kind. The mood had completely shifted. Honestly it was the weirdest experience...all I can say is, thank God it got better. On a positive note, the beach and ocean were the best I have ever seen...absolutely beautiful! The food was good, not a lot of variety but it is a small resort, and once the craziness of the weekend was over you didn't have to fight for it. Our start was very disappointing but once Monday came we made the most of the rest of our vacation. Thank you to the friends we met and bonded with...you made our week! Next vacation I will pick somewhere else.

Brisas Guardalavaca: Awesome resort

I absolutely loved this resort. The people are beyond friendly. The food was great. Had no problems with our room. I can't say enough good things about this resort. I can see why they have so many repeat travellers here. This will definitely be a repeat vacation spot for me.

Brisas Guardalavaca: Great Resort

Great Resort ... Beach and Pools are perfect ... Staff very helpful and friendly .... my only complaint would be the beds are to hard other then that the resort was perfect.... I would go again ... can't wait for next year!

Playa Pesquero: Nice Resort

It was our first time at this Resort and where suprised of how big it is. The selection of food was very good. The rooms are large and comfortable. The pool area is huge and well kept. It is a family Resort so be prepared for lots of kids. Overall we enjoyed our stay.

Brisas Guardalavaca: Cozy, friendly resort

Hello. This was a smaller resort with lots to offer. The rooms are average, however the housekeeping service was excellent. My room did have a leak everyday in the washroom. Water wood poor out of the light when taking a shower or the above unit. I just placed and garbage bucket under the leak because I loved the view, the room didn't smell musty which is common in resorts down south, the AC unit was awesome and the beds were ok. We're not in our room much so with all the other great things I [... read more] didn't want to take a chance and room move to another room. The maid did towel art everyday. The beach was great and all none motorized sports were free, paddle boats etc. The food was ok, you definitely shouldn't go hungry. All service was awesome and had good English which is definitely a plus. There is a roof top bar on the fourth floor that was has an amazing view of the area and great to watch the sunset. You could always find and chair to use and no shortage of beach towels.

Playa Pesquero: Great trip

The good: Amazing beach with some small reefs for snorkelling. Lots of restaurants -food was mostly good when you figured out what you liked. Staff very friendly. Pool great for the kids. Can get a small catamaran ride or take out paddle boats, kayaks or windsurfers if you like. Lots of shade on the beach. We have a son with disabilities and the hotel accommodated our request to be close to the pool, restaurants and beach. People who place their towels on chairs by the pool VERY early in the morning making it hard to find a spot in the shade where you can actually see your kids in the pool.

Paradisus Rio De Oro: A Great Resort

This was our first visit to this resort following a recommendation from our friends who had vacationed here three times. The grounds of the resort are large, well designed and landscaped and great for just taking a walk in the morning or late in the day. The beach is amazing and the rooms were nice and we had no complaints. The staff were extremely pleasant and helpful and the buffet and specialty restaurants were enjoyable as was the food quality and choices. Evening entertainment was average but enjoyable to pass the time away relaxing with friends and having drinks around the lobby bar. We were quite happy to just stay within the resort for the duration of our one week visit. We would return again.

Paradisus Rio De Oro: top of the line

Every thing spot on. Meets all standards. A very relaxing environment. This resort is very well maintained. The staff are friendly and attentive. The view from the pool area is spectacular. The pool water is warm and the spotlessly clean pool is very inviting. The grounds are well looked after. The rooms are well appointed and very clean. I will stay at this resort again in the future.

Playa Pesquero: Beautiful Resort!

Playa Pesquero Resort, is a beautiful resort. They have a big beautiful Lobby with nice seating areas. The beach is not far from the pool, it's a nice walk with small boutiques, snack bar and a la carte restaurant on the way. The view of the beach and ocean is breathtaking! Beautiful wide beach with white sand and turquoise water. The Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner Buffet restaurant is Open concept, with view of the surroundings and fresh air passing through...very nice. All the a la carte res [... read more]taurants are also wide open, no closed areas. A la carte service was excellent, but at the Buffet restaurant the service is a bit slow with a lot of line ups for the fresh cooked food. The food was delicious anywhere we ate. Nice size rooms, well kept and always clean. If you enjoy evening entertainment at the Theatre, I must say that we were disappointed when we went the week of April 1-7, 2018. They did not put on any shows, they did have a few bands that played, but we prefer a show with dancers.

Club Amigo Atlantico Guardalavaca: Amazing resort

People are friendly at the resort, felt comfortable when I stayed there. Room are clean, AC works well. Beautiful white sandy beach and enjoyed sailing. Keep your belongings with you cuz local people around. Food okay for 3 star. I may go back next year.

Paradisus Rio De Oro: We enjoyed our stay

Stayed for two weeks and had nothing but a good experience. Staff is very attentive and the facilities are very good-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Paradisus Rio De Oro: A Wonderful Vacation

This was my first visit to this resort. I actually did not want to go back to Cuba but Theresa and Mark had been there 2 years ago and they liked it. I was very happy with the huge Jr suites and the beds were amazing, and great pillows. We tried every a la carte, and I actually having lobster trail twice. The staff was very friendly and the gardeners were out every morning cleaning the property. The only complaint (s). 1. There is no Free Wifi at all on the property. 2. The bathrobes that are  [... read more]supplied are not “ one size fits all “. 3. The milk in Cuba ruins the coffee, so powered coffee cream like “ Coffeemate “ should be supplied.

Aston Costa Verde Beach Resort: Comfortable and relaxing

This was a spur of the moment trip for us so was mainly looking for a good place at a good price. We got both. The resort was smaller than most as well as at the end of the season so it wasn't over crowded at the pools or beach. Lots of sun. Staff was friendly and helpful when needed. This is not a fancy resort, but was very clean. The mattresses are in need of replacing. Signage could be better for finding your way around, but again it is a smaller resort. Playa Costa Verde: Just average

Hotel Playa Costa Verde has a few very outstanding qualities above other resorts we have stayed at in Cuba. For example the services they provide are the best. The buffet provide a wide variety of delicious items. The maid and bar services are the best. The grounds are well kept. The beach services are very good with lots of beach chairs for everyone but there are rocks everywhere in the water. However, there are lots of improvement that have to be made. Also what little programme was available was not communicated to anyone.

Paradisus Rio De Oro: Not a 5 star

Hotel was basic for a Paradisus 5 star resort - I've stayed in 4 and 4.5 star in Cuba and very comparable to this one. Resort needs lots of TLC, pool was in bad shape needs much work. Staff were pleasant, food was ok, buffet pretty much same everyday. Would not return for the price.

Paradisus Rio De Oro: Love this resort

Very nice resort. Food was great. Second visit and we enjoyed it as much as we did the first time. Updated shower in our room which was good. Would be nice to have free Wi-Fi in the lobby. Will be returning.

Playa Pesquero: Adult Spring Break

This was a great trip! Our 4th time and we had a blast and will definately return. 4 of us travelled together and experienced the wonderful Cuban hospitality. We were pampered with great service where tips were not expected but do help the people of Cuba. The bugs were noticeable but not unmanageable, the pools clean, the beach fantastic and the rooms were clean. Don’t go for the food so that was not an issue - plenty for seafood lovers! Ice cream was enjoyed several times and the Romantico and Italiano were favourite a la crates. Thanks to Mikel, Eduardo, Anatoli & Maria working in the lobby. Maite thank you for looking after our rooms and leaving beautiful art with the towels and bedding. The memories we have at this resort will always be close to my heart. We will be back!

Paradisus Rio De Oro: Peace of Paridise

Loved this resort everyone was very friendly and helpful. Food was good, beach and pool area was clean. Wasn’t crazy about all the crabs everywhere and leaving the holiguin airport was a disaster. I would definitely return to this resort and would recommend it.

Playa Costa Verde: EXCELLENT RESORT

What do I think of the resort? Excellent. We have been going there for 8 years, and god willing, will be another 8. There are no words to describe the place, but other than fantabulous. The staff, the locals are fantastic and the resort makes you feel so relaxed and comfortable. Our home away from home.

The beach and weather was wonderful... the rooms and food terrible Only 1 restaurants A la Carte always book when it was open... pool never cleaned... gym equipment all rusted out Was very disappointed with this resort
