Sanctuary at Grand Memories Varadero: Nice Cuban resort
The resort was good for Cuban standards. The rooms were dated but there has been some improvements made to the resort as a whole The food was decent but I’d recommend staying on the sanctuary side as the sister resort was terrible. The reason you go to cuba is for the beaches and the friendliness of the people, in this area, there was no disappointment.

Memories Caribe Beach Resort: Best beach!!
We stayed for a week in April 2024 and first time to Cayo Coco. Been to Cuba many times before and knew what to expect with shortages, hot water issues and paint chipping in the rooms. We have stayed in a tent and a 5 star, so anything in between is just fine with us. The beach at Caribe is second to none and the staff are awesome as always in Cuba! Sure, the mosquitos and no-see-ums are terrible during dusk and dawn, but nothing a little repellant, Vick’s Vapo Rub and Vitamin B1 can’t handle. [... read more]All in all, will 100% go back!

Blau Varadero: Wouldn’t recommend
Stayed at this resort from June 29-July 6 2024.
Let me start by saying that I am not a difficult person to please-I’m not a diva, I don’t expect exceptional service and I’m a pretty laid back person. Everyone knows you don’t go to Cuba for the food, and ironically, the food is the only thing that I won’t complain about.
The grounds were beautiful (ok-another thing I won’t complain about) the beach was amazing and the food was surprisingly good-for Cuba.
The drinks were not good—at all.
F[... read more]or a good cup of coffee, go to Coffee Corner on the 3rd floor. Get Ernesto to make you a cold coffee-it’s delicious and he’s amazing!!!
The buffet for breakfast and lunch is out by the pool-no air and it’s open so the birds fly in and help themselves to the food. A cockroach was running on the food and up the leg of the buffet table and one of the workers just brushed it to the ground and stepped on it. They had to close this buffet room and give it a deep clean because so many people were getting sick. At one of the a la carte restaurants, everyone who ate there on Tuesday night got food poisoning.
Cockroaches run rampant in the bathroom on the 3rd floor-right by coffee corner and I did see cockroaches in our room-I’m just so grateful that I didn’t see them before our last night there.
On the plus side-I called the front desk to complain about the A/C in the room and he said he would send a technician and the guy knocked on the door in less then 5 minutes. The next day I had to call again because the coffee maker didn’t work and by the time we got back from breakfast, it had already been traded for a new one.
Another down side is that the entertainment plays on a very small stage at the main floor bar and it’s a vaulted ceiling with the rooms overlooking this area-it’s a beautiful scene- but when the music plays, it’s so loud that they sound like they’re standing right outside your room door with a state-of-the-art surround sound system and it just doesn’t stop until 10;30pm. I get it-you’re on vacation and you’re supposed to have a good time-and I do-but it’s not my idea of a good time to listen to opera so loud that my ear drum vibrates and my brain rattles. They need to plan that better.
I’ve been to Varadero many times and I’ve always had a great time but this was the first time that I wouldn’t recommend the resort that I stayed at.

Iberostar Selection Esmeralda: Worst resort
Don't be fooled by the amazing reviews below. This is one of the worst resort to take family with kids and worst if you don't speak Spanish.
I couldn't find a kettle or someone to warm up the water for my 10 month old baby. After complaining, they finally got me a coffee maker to get hot water (2 days later).
Limited water bottle, one a day, so definitely bring water bottles on your trip and sometimes you don't even get them.
Food was always repeated everyday and usually the same fo[... read more]r breakfast/ lunch / dinner. Almost felt like they just reheated the food. There is no such thing as 24 hour snack bar. Our flight was at 10:55am, they made us check out around 6am to be picked up by the bus for 6:25am, well the bus didnt get there til 7ish. When we went to get breakfast from 24 hours snack bar, we were told that it was closed.
Bed sheets and bath towels are so dirty, felt like they used the same one again. Just use your beach towels, which is much cleaner.
Unless you know Spanish, workers don't care to treat you well. Majority don't speak or understand English. So hard to ask for anything. Any time you have a question, the answer is " I don't know". Definitely won't get a tour of the place or explanation on where to go for buffet, pool, restaurant or beach. You will have to find out all on your own.
Do bring mosquito repellent, super important.
Black flies in the morning and Mosquito at night.
The only best part of this trip, is the amazing beach and also the exterior of the hotel is beautiful
Overall, worst trip and will never recommend this place to anyone.

Melia Costa Rey: Vacation June 2024
Absolutely beautiful resort !!
Repeat clients ,
The resort changed name while we were there July 1st 2024 to
Melia Costa Rey
We were very impressed with the food , the Buffet was very good with lots of variety, as well as the a la carte restaurants especially the international restaurant was excellent!!
I do have two big complaints:
1- Mosquitoes, there is definitely a big problem with the mosquitoes all hours of the day and night to the point of not being able to sit outside and enjoy th[... read more]e shows or to have a drink (never seen anything like this)
I hope they get it under control soon.
2- the elevator was out of order the whole time we were there .

Melia Las Americas: Nice Resort
Hotel is okay, we had an ocean view room in the Level section. Room is very large with two bathrooms.
Restaurants were good and the service was excellent. Having a room in the level section permitted us to have the
imported alcohol beverages.
Beach is clean and pleasant to go walking.
Overall the club is good, and only 30 minutes from the airport.
The only negative is that the mosquitos were biting you where ever you were sitting.

Sol Rio de Luna y Mares: Amazing Resort!
It was a great family vacation from June 25-July 2 2024. The Hotel Sol Rio de Luna y Mares is probably the best resort we visited in Cuba.
Very well maintained, clean, perfect layout. Everything is close: lobby bar, pool, restaurants, beach.
Beach is amazing (Playa Esmeralda), lots of natural shade, very good place for snorkeling.
Food was good (lots of variety), entertainment was good (could be a little longer at night, finishes at 10pm), service was very good, staff was very friendly and we[... read more]lcoming, they go extra mile to make you feel appreciated.
We will definitely come back and probably make this resort our Cuban vacation destination in the future.

Blau Varadero: Great resort!
We stayed at Blau Varadero at the beginning of June and we were absolutely thrilled with our stay and experience. We went for sun and beach but we enjoyed our stay well beyond that.
Staff is amazing! Grounds and facilities are kept very clean. Our room (bayview) was very nice, spacious and clean.
We were pleasantly surprised with food which was excellent. There was plenty of local fruits, papaya, mango, agawa and
pineapple at each meal. Good variety of vegetables, fresh and baked. Two to th[... read more]ree sort of meats, various dishes, for lunch and dinner. They even had paella on the beach one day.
Entertainment was also excellent. Variaty of events throughout a week featuring: opera, rock, salsa, and even ballet in water! All these complemented by Blau entertainment team.
Piano bar offers quieter and relaxing atmosphere and they make good cocktails.
We went to both a la card restaurants. International has a nice atmosphere.
Meal was good, but we prefer buffet for variety especially fruits
Disco starts at 11pm at the beach bar which is far enough from the hotel to have a quite night for sleep.
The last but not least all staff is doing great in their job and they deserve very much our tip. Tip them generously and don't forget those ones who are taking care of grounds. Yes, they share the tip, but still, they are very grateful when we think about them too.
PS we also brought some higene products to share mainly with those who don't work in the tourism. Staff for kids would also be appreciated.
One more thing, we felt safe all along our travel and stay, at the hotel and on the beach!

Iberostar Coral Holguin: Amazing Time
We had a few reservations about going to Cuba with a lot of the reviews we had read, but this place had fantastic reviews. Everything was amazing from check in to check out.
The Iberostar Coral Level is for adults only and is next to the Iberostar Selection which is for families. Coral Level has access to both resorts.
I read a lot of reviews and they varied in their descriptions of this place. We were there from June 21 - June 28 2024 and this is what we experienced.
There are 5 buildi[... read more]ngs with 12 rooms in each one. Each building has 4 Junior suites on the ends, upper floor and ground floor and they are clean and beautiful. They have a large bathroom with a jacuzzi tub, a king size bed, wall mounted TV, sitting area with a desk and chair as well as a chaise lounge and small coffee table, a large closet with lots of hangers and a safe. The AC was the best we've had anywhere. All of the rooms have two loungers on the balcony or terrace with the Junior suites also having a table and chairs. The only difference between the two is on the ground floor the shower is outside not inside.
The pool is gorgeous spanning across all of the buildings. There are 20 Bali beds and 3 other semi covered structures and lots of loungers and chairs. We never had any issues with getting a Bali bed but we were there in low season. There is a swim up bar and a couple of jacuzzi tubs behind the pool bar on a terrace.
The beach is shared with the Selection side but again we had no issues with finding a lounger but I would imagine it would be different at full capacity. There is a beach bar and a small grill area for hamburgers and hotdogs but is only open at certain times. There is also a larger beach across a bridge which has a small bar, washrooms and it is also where the water equipment is(paddle boats etc.). I tried snorkeling but there wasn't much to see.
At the Coral Level there is a 24 hour bar and a restaurant that serves A la Carte breakfast, lunch and dinner. Every morning there were eggs, bacon, sausage, hot cakes, fresh fruit, omelets, pastries etc. At lunch there was chicken, pork and fish dishes, salads, soups, pastries etc. For dinner there were various appetizers, pork, chicken and Lobster tails which we had at every meal we ate here. Our favorite appetizer was the fried cheese with pineapple sauce, simple but oh so good.
There are 3 other A la Carte restaurants at the Selection side, the Gourmet, Mediterranean and Japanese and also a buffet. We ate at the Japanese which was decent and the Gourmet which was very good. My wife had the stuffed chicken legs which she liked and I had the Cordon Bleu Pork which was fantastic, cooked absolutely perfect and I could eat it every day. The service at both was fantastic. We ate at the buffet for lunch twice, once being Cuba day where there was pork that was grilled on a spit over charcoal and it was so tasty especially the chichiron (skin). There was pizza, pasta, fresh meats and cheeses, salads, a grill station, lots of other meat and vegetable dishes, fruit, ice cream, deserts and lots of different breads. Again great service.
There is also a 24 hour snack bar on the Selection side that had Ham and Cheese sandwiches, pizza, Tuna sandwiches, burgers and hotdogs with it varying day to day. We actually never ate here.
The service was amazing and genuinely friendly everywhere. Sorry we can't remember everyone's name but who we can are, Carlos the pool entertainment, so friendly and energetic with a fantastic voice and a great guitar player, Alexander, Dianne(pool bar not sure if I spelled it right), Hector, all of the bar tenders, Junior, Laritza, Augusto. Everyone in the Coral Level restaurant was beyond amazing, our maid was super friendly and kept our room super clean and provided some fantastic towel art. The pool maintenance team, gardeners, life guards and front desk all again fantastic and so genuinely friendly.
We don't really visit resorts twice but we cannot wait to go back.

I needed to get away and relax. Starfish gave me the quiet off-season RnR that I needed. The staff, accommodations, food, beach, pool, and resort were all top notch. The 10min walk to see the flamingos was one of my highlights. I would definitely return

Hotel Tuxpan: Worst hotel in varadero
This hotel should be closed to Canadians. It is a guvernement owned hotel that has the bare minimum and that's being generous. Barely nothing to eat, horrible service, cockroaches in the rooms, and not thr small kind. Hotel caters more to Cubans and Russians. Spent 2 weeks there and for the first time in over 50 trips to Cuba we couldn't wait to leave . DO NOT GO TO THIS HOTEL
