Memories Flamenco Beach Resort: A bit disappointed
We have been to Cuba 3 times, we are not fussy and recognize that Cuba has its limitations in certain areas. I usually think negative reviews are the people not understanding Cuba. But This hotel felt disjointed. Like there is a management problem and no communication. They ran out of so many things it was laughable yet other resorts did not. For instance no pop at all, no coke, tonic, no 7-up. No mamosa( or sparkling wine) any day. No milk ( cream) for coffee one day. Coke came a few days here[... read more] and there( yah!) Ice was an issue. Some days none, some days a scoop in the morning but none by afternoon. One bar would have it but not another. So you would run around looking for some ice and coke for your rum and waste an hour. They won’t share with each other in different areas
(staffs words) long line ups everywhere. Felt like we waited for hours everywhere We went. Ate really late at the Buffet so we wouldn’t have to wait for 45 min for a piece of chicken. Sometimes there was a long line ups outside the buffet just to get in. And al a cartes are now only 2 not 3 and good luck trying to get a time at one of those. We had one request, a king bed when we booked way back in November.....nope! Yet a single lady who booked the week before and didn’t want a king yet got it anyway! They read and honour no requests. People from diamond club got no perks at all. They had no pop or ice either at there special bar ( talked to them and they were very disappointed as well) No washroom anywhere near the beach. The one by the pool was disgusting and the one in the lobby not much better.
The pros: beach was best I have ever been on. We walked for hours each direction and absolutely no issues getting a palapa, they are abundant. ..by far the best part of the resort. We had lots of hot water and pressure as well. And our room was ok. Building 10. Just watch your step cause water is dripping all over the hallway floors ( some kind of pipe issue) and it can be dark and slippery. Some very pleasant staff.
I will conclude that we just rode it out and and go with the flow. We adjusted ( like eating an hour before the buffet closed) to avoid the heavy crowds. we drank beer ( not my drink of choice) till they ran out of that too...we just went along with it and didn’t let things ruin our vacation. But I will not go back to this resort. There are better organized ones then this.

Melia Costa Rey: Great resort
Just got back from The Pullman on Feb 17. The food was very good, the beachfront and staff were great and the entertainment was excellent. There was a great variety of live bands in the Lobby bar and by the Pool in the evenings. The shows in the Theatre were very professional.

Gran Muthu Imperial: Wonderful Rainbow Holel
Originally we were booked to Imperial but got upgraded to the new section called Rainbow. This 5* hotel was incredible! The food, beaches, excellent service, amazing drinks and a great gym. For entertainment we went back to Imperial however the food there was not even comparable to Rainbow. I believe they have overbooked that section so they couldn’t serve as many people. Overall we had a wonderful experience as we got best of both worlds the fun of Imperial and the quality of Rainbow. Beautif[... read more]ul pools and really nice rooms.
I travel at least twice a year. Usually Mexico, Dominican or Costa Rica. I haven't been to Cuba in about 15 years and was quiet disappointed.
Travelling to Cuba I knew "Cuba was Cuba" but I did expect a minimum standard.
The Great - the beach and water are unmatched most anywhere. It is crystal clear and beautiful white sand. The servers are amazing and do their best to make your experience amazing. They are top notch - friendly, kind, happy and genuine. Same goes for the front desk staff, g[... read more]ardeners and bar tenders. The fresh fruit, veggies and meat directly on the grill is amazing. The omelets in the morning are to die for and that is matched with the fresh bread! The Mediterranean al a carte is amazing!
The Bad - Cuba goes without. One day we didn't have milk. For 3 days there was no toilet paper in the general washrooms. One day our towels didn't get changed out due to being out of laundry soap. It wasn't like the staff didn't want to supply these things - they just didn't have them. That was standard for the resorts around us as we would make small talk on our beach walks. The resort is dated and the rooms show it. Again since they don't have a Home Depot down the street they have "made it work" with odd screws, different handles and mixed furniture. Unfortunately for our travel partners they had to change rooms 3 times due to cockroaches, ants and mold in large amounts. This just puts you on high alert. The fitness room was good but 2 of the 3 bikes were broken and 2 out of the 3 treadmills did not power on. However the free weights and machines provided a great workout while on vacation.
I loved the vacation for the beach, water, sun, company and the people. However I did miss the little things and especially the "luxuries" that are standard in Mexico or Dominican

Gran Muthu Imperial: A Gem in Cayo Coco Guillermo
I cant say enough about this resort. This has been my second time to this resort and it is absolutely beautiful. The staff are amazing and will do anything for you. They all have smiles on their faces and are ready to greet you will a hug.
The rooms are always clean but there were some issues with getting clean towels in the rooms for showering. we did run into some issues with getting clean linen on our beds during the week Unfortunately my brother's room had towels that were dirty fr[... read more]om the previous people in the room. The other issue we did have is that our bar fridge was only stocked maybe twice in the week and they are no longer stocking the fridges with pop (cola).
the grounds, pools, lobby are always cleaned and there was always someone cleaning up. The sports bar is far the best place to be each night. after supper we would stroll by and have a few drinks before retiring for the night. The beach is still a work in progress. I took a walk on the beach and there is still alot of shells and can be very hard to walk on.
We plan on returning to this resort again next year because we have made so many friends with the staff and they feel like family to us.

Memories Flamenco Beach Resort: Best beach location
The hotel overall is okay, however, the public bathrooms are in terrible shape. No seats, broken urinals and some were closed. The rooms were spacious and clean, with a stocked fridge and a balcony. The beach is by far the best quality of the area. You can walk for miles in either direction. We never went to the pool. But it looked nice. Lots of activities to join in on.Lots of planned activities for the kids, highly recommended for families. One day there was a live band playing poolside. The se[... read more]cond best part of the hotel was the food. By far the best food I have ever had in Cuba. I have been to Cuba 5, times, always a different place. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone who loves the beach, great food and happy staff.

Iberostar Origin Daiquiri: Good time
Resort very nice. Got quite a few bites from what I don’t know. The bathrooms in the resort need more attention as they were always out of paper. Food was good plenty to eat. Need more entertainment during the day. Booked a beachside hotel room. Surprised to find out it was beachside and not beach view. We looked onto a field. My fault just assumed. Staff very friendly except one rude person at front desk who walked away when he was asked a question

Melia Jardines del Rey: Overcrowded resort
The resort itself was spacious but needed more greenery...the beach was amazing so were the personnel...the lobby was vast and could host a lot of people. The shows left us unimpressed but the entertainment itself with the music was fun and great. The food wasn’t good...we were lacking service in the buffet area as well as plates....from Thursday to Saturday when I left the hotel was overflowing and overcrowded by Cuban people...which in itself is not a bad thing but we were left with no spa[... read more]ce to get food or food itself in the buffets area. I have nothing bad to say about the cleaning staff or the bartenders or baristas ..they did an awesome job . I am going back to Cuba in March and taking my sons and I won’t take them there because of the food.

Gran Muthu Imperial: Great resort!
This was our first time to Cuba and we will definitely be back! And the resort was amazing. The staff was friendly and helpful. The food and entertainment were superb. This was our honeymoon trip and they gave us a lot of extras. We were sad to leave.
Also, our travel agent Dianne Abrey was great and handled everything wonderfully. We will be booking our next trip with her.

Starfish Cayo Guillermo: Decent value
Amazing beach, wonderful staff and tons of entertainment. Resort is older but charming. Gym equipment was broken and plumbing wasn’t the best but overall had a great week. There is a dolphin exhibit within walking distance and the flamingos were right next door. Good value for your money

Sol Cayo Coco: good place to visit ONCE
This was the first time we ever went to the Sol Cayo Coco. We have been many times to Cayo Coco but to Memories, Melio and Pestana to name a few.
When we arrived the receptionist at the desk was very polite and we got our room in a timely fashion and someone was available to help with our luggage.
The room was clean and appropriate to Cuba standard I would say 3 star.
There is only one elecart at this resort but we were able to attend two times but the food offered was exactly the same. Ther[... read more]e was no dress code in place no table clothes flowers or candles to make the atmosphere different then the buffet and the food was ok. The service was ok.
The pool was clean as well as the beach.
The buffet lacked a variety of food. There was no bananas no potatoes and beer was in short supply.
We were there on Feb 14th and the resort was opened to many Cubans coming for the day.
We were in a group of 7 and we found that day particular over crowded and unfortunately the staff catered to their own people over the guests already at the resort. eg: there was a line up for the buffet on the 14th we were at the front of the line and the door man spoke in Cuban and took 3 guests (2 times) until I spoke up and said hey we are needing a table for 3 as well. I felt he was upset when I mentioned this however he then got us in. This really turned me against the Cubans as a whole. I used to take t-shirts, sandels and personal items to give away because I always thought the need was there. This will not happen again and I feel bad the way I feel but seeing is believing and what I saw did not impress me.
I would definitely go back to cuba but would hesitate going back to the Sol
We were anxious to leave to come home and trust me that is the first for me

Melia Jardines del Rey: GOOD LUCK!!!!
Just don't go - only good thing is the beach if you can get a chair - be prepared to get up at 6:00 am to claim your spot at beach if you show up any later than 8:00 am no chairs left - showers went from scalding hot to freezing cold within seconds, toilets did not flush properly, food from the buffet was not even fit for my cat or my dog.... over an hour wait for a hot dog at 24 hour snack shack..... beds were like cement..... I could go on and on ...hopefully you haven't booked this resort ...[... read more].SOOOOO DISAPPOINTED ..... first two nights no water from 5:00 pm until the morning.... been to Cuba over 15 times and Melia resorts over 5 times this resort was worse than 3 star resorts we have stayed in .. could go on and on but why bother .... if you have booked this resort and can't get out of it GOOD LUCK!!!!!!

Melia Jardines del Rey: Run away...as fast as you can!!!!!
The only positive thing about this resort is the beach; however, good luck even getting a chair (unless you want to get up at 6:00 am every morning you are on your vacation and play the towel reservation game) as there are not enough for the number of guests and even if you are lucky to get one it will be the hard plastic white ones and so far away from any of the bars, lunch restaurants, washrooms, etc. that you won't even enjoy the beach. The buffet restaurant was a joke .... food recycled day[... read more] after day, so understaffed, not enough plates, so overcrowded with guests, dirty silverware, etc. and if you went to the 24 hour snack bar to avoid the feeding frenzy at the buffet good luck with that as would take over an hour to get a hot dog, hamburger or a ham and cheese sandwich with no fries, no condiments, no tomatoe, no onion, sometimes no bun, etc.showers were a nightmare went from scalding hot to freezing cold and from a blast of pressure to a trickle, toilet in room did not flush properly and had to use the hand shower from the bathroom to try and get toilet to flush ..... have been to Cuba over 15 times (Cayo Coco three times) and Melia resort five times ..... was soooooo disappointed in this resort...we arrived at night around 9:30 pm and check in was in another room separate from the reception lobby it was crowded, hot and took forever did not like that they took our passports from us for over a half an hour before we got them back ... walking around the resort at night can be difficult as barely any lighting that worked....not enough bartenders for the amount of guests and constantly running out of glasses so serving drinks in those tiny plastic cups ... really disappointing holiday

Gran Muthu Imperial: Beautiful and Calm
This was our first time to Cuba, so other than other reviews or personal accounts from friends we did not know what to expect.
This resort is about an hour from the Cayo Coco airport and it's a nature area so there is no urban life to speak of. You can see flamingos surrounding the roads in the low marshes that are everywhere.
The resort itself is new, clean and small enough that you don't need to worry about the walks - although there are hills so some folks with mobility issues looked most c[... read more]omfortable getting a lift.
We didn't specify any room requirements and we received a room with two double beds, so we just pushed them together! The mini fridge wasn't stocked consistently, and towel changes were hit and miss, but again this didn't bother us.
The staff were lovely! The front desk was professional and polite, but any issues like pillows or electric problems should be taken to the customer service representative instead of the front desk.
The garden staff did a good job of cleaning up every morning and offering guests coconuts to drink from.
The food exceeded our expectations at the buffet, but we learned quickly that the snack bar isn't well staffed at night and you run the risk of getting stale fries. We did find that certain staff offered better service and opted to sit in their sections!
The bar tenders were wonderful to us, regardless of how we tipped. They did run out of some things randomly like tonic water and the power would go out some days but everyone handled it so well.
The beach at the resort is great! It's wavy so you can't see the coral, but on the calm days we didn't need water shoes. Playa Pilar is spectacular and world class!
I loved our adventure into Moran and we made some new friends (Randy and ThalÃa) and we will surely be back again!
To all the complaining Canadians at this resort - you were the worst part of my vacation and your entitled behaviour needs to be checked!

Melia Jardines del Rey: Never stayed anywhere worse in my life
4 days no hot water which was the last 4 days we were there, 2 days absolutely no cold water, 4 days toilets broken. The resort after day 2 had a shortage of drinkable water so it was like gold, they ran out of pop, juice, drinks etc daily till all that was left was beer and coke, they ran out of ice and the list goes on. We complained daily, the no hot water never got fixed even before we left. Hotel management had asked how are stay was, we explained and he couldn't quite understand why we wer[... read more]e so upset. Asked if we complained we said yes, toilets he said was a given, but we told him the shower situation was unforgivable always being told yes we will fix and nothing ever done. The management offered us a bottle of rum for each room. It was like being bought of in his eyes and there are two people in our room one bottle given last night there at 10 pm we left at 7 am, even he wouldn't give two so we fight over the rum? He wouldn't budge. and always running out of everything right from day one feel sorry for the people just getting there. I will never recommend this resort to anyone ever!!!!!!!!!!!!

Grand Muthu Cayo Guillermo: Very nice resort
Resort was fairly new and the rooms are very nice. Beach was amazing, I’m not a pool person but they seemed nice. Buffet was a little disappointing, long lines for fresh cooked items like pasta, omelets etc. Food was a fine better then the last time in Cuba.
