Palma Real: Worst hotel I've been to. We will Never return.

Many problems...It took us 3 days to get a room not on the ground level. Eventhough it was only 25% booked. First room had black mold so bad that a large part of the ceiling in various areas was falling apart. No warm let alone hot showers. No shower curtain and couldn't get an extra towel for the water on the floor. Could not lock patio door. Fridge, air conditioner did not work. Only light in bathroom. No lightbulbs available in the entire hotel for the bedside lights and the main light. Toile [... read more]t paper was very difficult to get from maids...had to take from the lobby bathrooms. A Huge cockroach in our room. And we keep our room very clean. The second room had all the same problems (including the cockroach). Then we had a leak from the ceiling vent that thank God I noticed before it soaked our luggage and everything in it! Then one leak from one corner of the vent turned into 3 leaks from 3 out of the 4 corners. The food was disgusting! And we are very accustomed to Cuban food. But this was horrible! And the one and only time (9th time to Cuba) that the food or drinks made my husband and I sick. When we stopped eating from the hotel completely our stomach's returned to normal. The dining room staff were great, accommodating and sweet.The a la cartes were horrible too! The drinks were awful. Only one bartender made a good pina colada...And the bar only had mint for Mojitos 3 days out of 14. Also the main lobby bar closes at 11pm and you had to go to the Havana club after that to get a drink. Which was full of Very young, immature, disrespectful people. Men slapping women, throwing drinks in faces, having sex in the bathrooms, etc. So once again we had to go off resort for drinks also...waste of "all inclusive". And we witnessed on our first night 5 "men" standing in a row at the edge of the pool openingly urinating into the pool. And many other activities in the pool other than swimming. Thank God we seen that before we used the pools...of course we didn't use the pools during our 2 week vacation...a lot of garbage and patio chairs in the pool every morning. Very little lighting throughout the resort (around pools, walking areas and hallways at night. Dangerous with all the uneven and broken pavement, steps ect. I guess Palma Real can't get light bulbs. Also security around the hotel was nonexistent. We faced the autopista (the inlet canal) and we sat on our balcony a lot (our light out there also did not work...Lol) and did not see one security guard do any security rounds that are supposed to be done minimum once an hour. We saw one man who looked like security once. But he did not see us (it was dark...) and he went below us to the main floor patio doors. Not sure what he was doing but he didn't seem to be acting like security...seemed to be checking if patio doors were locked. There were more problems with this hotel to even remember everything. We met other guests that had been going there for more than 10 years, 3-4 times/year and they all said eventhough they had long relationships with most of the staff, they too would not be returning. We went here 2 years ago and the decline in everything was shocking. If you want to eat, drink, shower, enjoy the pool and other all inclusive activities do not go to Palma Real. If we were forewarned of even half of the problems we would have booked at another hotel.

Barcelo Bavaro Beach: Premium vs Prestige/Superior

Dated rooms, but great food in the Bavaro Beach Buffet and La Brisa restaurants. Poor service, low quality wine and food in all of the other restaurants, meals cold, food cold, wait staff unprofessional. NO "free" wifi anywhere, unless you selected Premium. If your room card says "Premium" (which includes free wifi and access to ALL restaurants-including the ones that have an extra charge) and your room is in the "Premium" section, it does not really mean "Premium", it is probably Prestige o [... read more]r Superior...double check prior to booking and confirm, either way, they are NOT one in the same. Very inconsistent at the bars, restaurants, in the quality and mixing of drinks. One bar and their staff, though, were top notch, The Bohio, by the pool, in the adult section. Great service, friendly and attentive.

Palma Real: Need improvement

Need to improve : mattress, wifi system and certainly the food!! Not enough chooses and variety!! In 2018 customers want fresh veggies , cooked veggies and meats!! Food often not warm enough!!! Stair's guards was broken and unsafe. Pool's edge was cracked and not repaired.

Palma Real: GHETTO PARTY HAVEN

This place is perfect for partying. That's about it. If you're in the mood for loud music from 9am until 6am this is the place! You can't get rest here. You can only drink until your liver fails and breathe in the sweet smell of mold in your room. Make sure to remember to bring your own queen bedsheet and towel so you don't have to sleep and wash in bloodstained linens!! Good party though so make sure you don't drink for a month so you don't die!!!!

Occidental at Xcaret Destination: Awesome Wild Life

For being my first vacation i went in with no expectations... however i did not like paying extra for perks that i did not receive. Jeshua, Mauricio & Claudia in building 20 were amazing. I decided to fly with Air Transat which was a mistake because the perks they listed you get with this hotel you do not get..i ended up paying extra money for stuff i never received, The Xcaret park was awesome however i got the unlimited park pass which was suppose to include a meal and a beer in the park, it d [... read more]id not and the park wanted me to pay $30USD. The hot water would turn brown as well. ************************************************************************************************** OCCIDENTAL AT Xcaret this is my first vacation..its not too bad but when we got here no one recognized the perks. We didn't get bath robs & slippers till the third day in, we never got the mayan welcome or a private check in, never got the welcome gift & when we went to the xcaret park they said we still had to pay for the buffet when we had the ultimate package.. we showed them the papers of what we were suppose to get but all they did was just try selling us time shares...they said i had to buy wifi that i didn't get an hour free.. other than all that i guess for my first vacation isn't that bad..but i'm kind of upset because i paid so much for this stuff that i never got. Basically all the perks we were suppose to have we didn't get. **************************************************************************************************

Barcelo Solymar: Less than impressed

Customer service was terrible, no full size shower towels in my room. Also called the front desk about toilet paper after an hour I walked to the front desk to complain then three hours later toilet paper was dropped off at my room. Was told it was off season, my question is why did I get a room in such poor condition?

Barcelo Solymar: Five time client

My friends and I have been coming here annually for the past 5 years. We know what to expect both shortcomings and strengths. Rooms are standard for Cuba and may have some small issues. The resort itself is clean and caters the the crowd that it attracts ( more on this later). Food could be better, but hey this is Cuba and if you are a gourmet then this is not the place you should coming to. Service is very good and staff, both frontline and back of house are always friendly. One feels valu [... read more]ed as a customer to the resort and as a visitor to Cuba. The resort is within walking distance of the Varadero Strip, which includes popular venues such as The Beatles Bar, Calle 62 and The Havana Club. Because of this the resort attracts a greater number of visitors (many of who have stayed there before) who enjoy letting loose and having good time. Despite some shortcomings this resort offers good value.

Allegro Cozumel: Great Resort

I think this resort Is great. Accommodations were good although the bathroom smells a bit bad because of the water in the toilet. That was a bit hard to stomach by the end of the week. The food is pretty good. I've seen alot of people complain about the italian and Mexican restaurant but I thought they were pretty good. The weekends get busy with lots of locals coming in, so I would plan excursions for the weekends and enjoy a quiet empty resort on the weekdays.

Barcelo Gran Faro Los Cabos: good resort

good resort if you like small, The rooms are a little dated but clean. Grounds were spotless. They do not allow smoking on the resort which I liked how ever the designated smoking area was at the entrance to the beach and directly under the infinity pool. Every time I needed to use the restroom I had to walk through everyone's smoke, also found ourselves avoiding the infinity pool for that reason, (definitely ended up being a pool for the smokers). I was a little disappointed in the entertainment, most resorts offer a pre dinner piano or some other sort of music where people can dance a little and have a drink before dinner, there was no dancing that I saw the entire week and I love to dance. I really liked the location, we enjoyed walking through San Jose almost daily.

Occidental Caribe: Wonderful!

We had a great time, the staff was exceptional... the beach was beautiful! The pizzeria was a hidden gem and we had ala carte food all nights but one :) Japanese was definitely the best and most fun, the staff was amazing there too!

Barcelo Maya Palace: Great resort

Barcelo Bavaro Beach: Oh What a Week

Okay so I travelled alone for the first time and the guests and staff made my staff incredible. The room was oceanfront and had an incredible view of the beach. It was far away enough from the pool that it was quiet for daytime siestas, but close enough that if I forgot anything it wasn't a long walk. The room was clean and cool and well kept. Barcelo Maya Caribe: Positive experience

We enjoyed our family vacation. It was clear that there were lots of opportunities to take part in a variety of activities and entertainment. The resort is large, it would have been nice to be treated to a short tour, especially since we were premium members. Brenda in the premium lounge was kind and helpful. The other girls barely raised their eyes at us when we walked inro the lounge. The kids club was really good. We also went to santa fe and capri for dinner. Both servers were wonderful. Bc the resort was so big, we didn't feel the same personalized service as a premium member compared to other resorts. Yet i would still recommend barcelo maya to family and friends.

Barcelo Bavaro Palace: Good for price

Room is amaging. The jacuzzi in the balcony was best. Food is not completely satisfactory. The Barcelo Maya (Mexico) has much better restaurants. I think it is better to book as a Premium, otherwise you have to pay Wifi, reservation restriction at the restaurants, etc.

Barcelo Maya Colonial: More then expected

Dining is great, spa is incredible, service staff was friendly and helpful. Room was clean and comfortable. Restaurants menu very well and food tastes amazing. Alexis Mora on reception very helpful and professional person who made our visit enjoyable.

Barcelo Maya Palace: Amazing resort - less than amazing service

Great resort, it's beautiful, it's amazing, it's what I imagine paradise looks like. However, front desk staff are confrontational, forcing you to take a room you didn't pay for. You're given information at check-in then arguing with you at checkout that what you expect isn't the norm.

Palma Real: Terrible rooms

Beware. Palma real is under a different management group now(barcelo)...worse experience ever. No water. No A/C. Mold everywhere. Food quality is very poor. The hotel is working at 30%capacity. One pool out of service....and the general manager is not able to do anything. Time to switch hotels.

Palma Real: Huge disappointment

My first time in Cuba, and i wish i had all good things to say but i don't . Rooms - very rundown, lot of water damage, smelled like mold, a/c only worked half the time, my door frame was lose and i felt like someone could easily break in, but they were clean at least. Resort itself, hallways were in bad shape, smelled like mold, swim up bar/pool was closed, which was a major disappointment as that is my fav place to be, the pool area needed severe renos, the cement/patio area was cracked and  [... read more]moldy, the soda at the bars was flat all week as well. The staff was very polite and really nice, my fav part was the Disco, loved it, we went every nite it was open, unfortunately is was CLOSED for several nites we were there, which was very frustrating. Food was pretty bad, i had no choice but to eat pasta and bread all week or go off the resort for some amazing meals. Alot of disappointments , but we still managed to have a great time, because we went off the resort every day as it's right downtown. that was my only savior ! Unless there are major renos, i would not go back to this resort.

Allegro Playacar: Amazing resort

Excellent resort. Highly recommended. Friendly staff and excellent food. Very clean. Will recommend this resort to our friends and family. Entertainment staff is great. They keep you entertained during the day an in the evening. A very safe and secure place. Rooms are nice.

Palma Real: Best location!!

Went for a birthday party. Location was amazing. Only a 2 min walk to the beach (with private bar and snacks included) and the popular bars of Beatles and Cale 62. The resort itself is very old, dated, and lots of mold. We went in October to resort restaurants and swim up bar were closed. Luckily great food in town for good prices. I probably wouldn’t go back to this resort but if you are just there to sleep you would enjoy it.
