Aston Costa Verde Beach Resort: Typical Cuban Resort

When traveling to Cuba, one can't expect luxury, but this hotel was comfortable, the staff always friendly and willing to help, room very clean. On the negative side, the cocktails were very bland and watered down, and it was a big concern when spraying for insects occurred during times when there were tourists walking on the grounds.

Playa Pesquero: Second visit to Playa Pesquero

We returned to Playa Pesquero as a group of seven with all of us having visited a year ago. Overall this is a good resort about an hour and ten minutes from the airport. It is a large resort but still feels cozy. i've been to Cuba 10 times now and this is one of the best resorts I've stayed at. The pool is absolutely enormous. In my opinion the best bang for the buck is to upgrade to the Monticristo rooms. This room class qualifies for additional perks via Transat's SUPER EARLY BOOKING [... read more] BONUS. The rooms are in pretty good shape and were well cleaned each day. Fresh towels, bar restocked etc with no problem. We had luke warm water for the first two days but it wasn't bad enough to complain about it. It was piping hot by day 3. We've stayed in building 16 both years and we would ask for that building again should we return. It is close to the pool (swim-up bar side of the pool.), a two minute walk to the beer garden (think small outdoor pub), and also a two minute walk to the beach. Food at the buffets is actually pretty good for Cuba standards. The main buffet gets pretty hot/humid as it is not air conditioned though. There are at least a dozen places to eat and its very easy to avoid the buffets. If you are thinking about visiting there are a couple of facebook groups you should join to get the latest gossip/tips or your questions answered. BTW: The first year we went there were only a few kids in the pool. This time it was kid soup at times. The volume of people took a toll on the pool and by the time we left it needed more than the morning shock/quick vacuum it got each morning. If you want to meditate you won't be doing it in the pool area. By mid afternoon the adults are having a blast at the swim up bar! There is an adults only section with its own restaurants/pool if you want a quiet vacation. We would consider returning.

Brisas Covarrubias: Hidden Gem

It was our fourth time in Covarrubias. Stunning beach, warm turquoise water and lovely people; our Cuban family. Hoping to go back again in few months. Spacious rooms. Great specialty drinks bar. Love this hidden gem Haste pronto Cova❤

Playa Pesquero: Holguin

The resort is great the staff and grounds are exceptionally There was too many kids playing in the beer garden and at the pool bar there should be some small areas were kids should not be allowed to play the bartenders did tell the parents to stop somethings like the time a mother sat her child in diaper beside my drink on the pool bar them proceeded to change diaper right beside the pool Air transat is excellent and I will book with them again better never again to holguin [... read more] we were put in an unorganized pushing scrum trying to make through airport security Inmagine you basement full of people and only one person allowed to leave every two minutes but there is at least four people trying to enter every minute That airport is a nightmare they should really spread there flight times out more

Playa Pesquero: Nice resort

The resort was clean the room service left me a little disappointed no coffee for the morning only 1 bottle of water left although the maintenance was very good my toilet broke and it was fixed immediately the food was typical Cuban food two of the three a la cartes we went to were excellent both in good and service

Club Amigo Atlantico Guardalavaca: maybe be on the way to 2*

having gone to this resort over 30 times,for the most part we have always been fairly pleased. this time however, we felt it to be lacking in several areas. first I should say that the staff are amazing as always, which probably has a large part in why we keep coming back here.in the main lobby you cannot get a glass or cup,only plastic. this is not really a great experience with hot coffee! the other bar in the lobby is where you can get a glass or cup but the location of this is terrible fo [... read more]r air flow(there is none!) ice was almost impossible to get anywhere at anytime as most of the machines on the resort were broken down.it is as though nothing is being repaired or maintained. the villas badly need attention as the paint is peeling and flaking off the walls. we are aware that this is a 3* resort and we do not expect more than that but certainly not less! perhaps a new manager with a different outlook as to the direction of this resort would benefit both staff and guest!! as an afterthought I would like to add that out of the four pools, not one was clear to see the bottom. all had vey murky water.

Sol Rio de Luna y Mares: Will return!

We loved this resort. We traveled as a couple and were impressed by the beach, activities and people. The beach is the most beautiful one I have been on. If you prefer the pool they offer 2, one quiet and one with music and activities. The grounds were spectacular, I loved how they had little signs for the plants letting you know what they are. Brisas Guardalavaca: What a great time

Brisas Hotel is a very quiet and peaceful hotel, people who work here are friendly,and helpful.I definitely will come again,and I suggest people who like to spend good time and relax vacation, Brisas is a prefect place.

Paradisus Rio De Oro: Amazing Resort

Thus resort surpassed our expectations. The grounds are beautiful. The staff are extremely friendly. The food is good, the drinks are great. Our room on the royal service side was perfect. Loved the outdoor shower.

Brisas Covarrubias: Secluded Destination

Just had a week stay at Las Brisas Covarrubias. Beautiful resort with a beautiful beach. Although the customer service at times was quite poor. We booked 2 ocean view rooms - first was put into a room facing opposite of the ocean, with a horrible drooping ceiling that was leaking leaving our whole bathroom soaked. Went to the front desk to request a room that at least wasn't wet.. and also explained that we paid for ocean view.. was met with rudeness and told to go back to our room. I refused an [... read more]d they gave us a much nicer room on the above level. I wouldn't call it ocean view but it was better. Our friends whom we booked with were put into a room across the resort.. was not allowed to switch rooms. Buffet food was not good. Bar food was a lot better. Would not recommend if you want to see Cuban life or anything outside the resort since it was very far from everything. Also you cannot book excursions with the other close resorts, because of the far distance. Other than that it was a great time. Very hard to book a massage, or any excursion on the boats. Make sure you are firm with them if they refuse your wishes. Although most stores or the currency exchange said they were open at noon, many of them would take their lunch breaks and would be quite rude if you asked for their time for a moment. Ups and downs.

Brisas Guardalavaca: Wonderful resort

This was a great resort lovely staff great food beautiful surroundings Only complaint swim up pool bar in the villas should have no kids allowed. Due to many adults having a good time and having to watch what they say. People always in guard. Would love to go back

Club Amigo Atlantico Guardalavaca: Would recommend

Overall, the complex was clean and well maintained. Hot water was not a problem and our room's a/c worked well. Buffet and speciality restaurants were up to Cuban standards. Nothing fancy and service was very good. Even had diet cola. All pools were maintained fairly well, but finding shade was a challenge. Awesome beach.

this hotel needs to be renovated quickly. rooms are presentable, but beds are so low a person who is elderly would not be able to get out off them, we were in Tropical and if we wanted a fridge we had to pay for it, unbelievable, had to get your own water in a pitcher, in bathroom no place to put toiliteries had to use top of toliet. and no face cloths, or shampoo, conditioner or body wash, food was the same everyday, believe some was from day before, they ran out of ice, pineapple juice, coffee [... read more] and even cups. pools and beach very nice, but as a non-smoker the amount of people smoking were more than not especially in the snack bars,

Brisas Guardalavaca: Great Holiday

Our 15th trip to Brisas and was excellent again. They make improvements to the hotel yearly and upgrade the hotel rooms. There were many new trainees to the staff to help everyone out. Biggest complaint is that local Cubans use the beach occasionally which is fine but they leave garbage on the beach when they leave. Also they run out of Crystal beer ( the most popular beer Canadians drink ) which upsets some people. Drink rum instead Another great trip for us

Club Amigo Atlantico Guardalavaca: great holiday!!

Just got back from club amigo. stayed for 12 days. this is our 4th time and will return next years same time. great resort for the money you pay. Food was terrific, with a great selection of whatever you like. Being a big resort they do run out of some things but are replaced promply. You get to mingle with the locals of guadalvarca who have access to the beach. Old resort but clean and well kept. The older part is at this time being renovated. There are 6 pools. Sol Turquesa Beach: Another Fantastic Trip to Cuba

This is our 3rd time visiting this resort and we love it a little more every time. Although the rooms are little dated and the resort does look a tad tired, the people working at the resort brighten it up! Beach is awesome, lots of pools to choose from. Definitely will return to Memories Holguin again!

Sol Rio de Luna y Mares: Magnificent Resort

We had an amazing time. The staff was friendly and always willing to help. The hotel was clean and the food was good with plenty of choices. A couple of minor things with our room were fixed immediatly. The entertainment was wonderful something for everyone. I would recommend Sol Rio de Luna Y Mars as a place to go.

RIGHT NOW THIS RESORT IS GOING THROUGH SOME UPGRADES, AND FROM WHAT WE HAVE SEEN THINGS ARE LOOKING PRETTY GOOD. GROUNDS ARE CLEAN, ROOMS THAT HAVE BEEN UPDATED ARE LOOKING GOOD. STAFF ARE FRIENDLY AND HELPFUL EVEN WHEN SOME OF THE TOURIST CAN BE NASTY AND SLOBS. BEACH IS CLEAN. THIS WAS OUR FOURTH YEAR, AND WE CAN HONESTLY SAY WE GO HOME WITH A SMILE. WE DO NOT HAVE ANY PROBLEM WITH THE FOOD, THERE IS ALWAYS SOMETHING TO EAT AND WE HAD SOME PRETTY AMAZING MEALS, BUT THERE AGAIN SOME PEOPLE A [... read more]RE VERY PICKY, AND NO MATTER WHAT, YOU WON'T BEABLE TO PLEASE THEM. Playa Pesquero: Amazing resort

Staff are very friendly very clean food was excellent beautiful grounds and beach was beautiful service was exceptional I can’t wait to go back!! Pools were very clean and well maintained entertainment was excellent rooms were clean and maids did a excellent job

Aston Costa Verde Beach Resort: Decent Cuban resort with pros & cons

The older part of the resort (lobby, pool, 'standard' rooms etc are all showing wear - peeling paint, chipped tiles - nothing horrible, just tired. As with most resorts, Cubans are friendly, patient and accommodating. I did not realize there was a 'plus' option, the exclusive pool, bar and 2 story accommodation in the 'Plus' section seem newer and look quite nice. Lastly, though I know this is virtually impossible to prevent, there were smokers everywhere (except the buffet). I felt like I was always in the smoking section (pools, bars, beach). Someday I'd like to find a truly non-smoking resort.
