Palma Real: Wasn’t what I was expecting

Hotel was run down, stunk like mould. The pool that was open was falling apart and dirt. The swim up pool Bar was closed and water was drained. Buffet barely had any food in it. Resort was quiet and ran out of a lot of their booze and pop, juice etc. I wasn’t very happy at all.

Barcelo Maya Palace: Marvellous Resort

We stayed at the Palace. Everything was spotlessly clean, rooms were luxurious and the food was great, even the buffet. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Only drawback was the piped piano music. It was classical music, played way too loud and everywhere.

Palma Real: Beautiful beach!

The main attraction for me was to swim up bar but unfortunately it was closed the pool was drained the hotel rooms were very weatherbeaten run down but clean the staff were amazing friendly and helpful. the dining hall presented very nice but the food was cold and not a very good selection. the hotel is close to town Which was nice! We could walk in and have dinner at a restaurant go to a nightclub check out fleamarket’s or just ride the tour bus for the whole day for five pesos! It did [... read more] rain but it was over very quick and the sun dried it up immediately! overall, Varadero is beautiful! I will go back but try a different hotel

Barcelo Maya Caribe: Beautiful resort

Barcelo is amazing resort with very clean grounds and the rooms are very clean also. Food was outstanding and a lot of variety.All the staff were very helpful and friendly. The entertainment wasn't that greatest. There wasn't any entertainment at night at the bars. At other resorts that I have been to there were always bands and singers in the lobby or at a bar. Other than that pools were amazing and beaches nice.

Palma Real: never again

I had been already in the past to this hotel, when everthing was well distributed and everything worked. very disappointed the way is being managed now and how many things raned out at different times

Barcelo Bavaro Beach: Great, again.

Fantastic resort. This is the second time I've stayed at the Beach (adults only) and enjoyed it just as much as the first time. The resort is very well maintained, the staff are friendly and there is always a good selection of food.

Allegro Playacar: Great staff

This was our second time at this resort. They did a great job on the renovations. Check in was quick and Lucy spoke good English. We had a room on the second floor with an ocean view. The king sized bed was very comfortable and the room kept clean. The grounds are very nice and it's easy to get around as it is a smaller resort. The staff were amazing especially Nestor, Humberto, Rafael and Fernando. We were treated exceptionally well and most spoke good English. The food was very good and drinks [... read more] not watered down. It's a short walk to PDC which is great. We will be returning again for sure.

Occidental Caribe: Great Resort!

Awesome resort! Had excellent food choices at the buffet. Good service at the bars.Would go back with the whole family for a good vacation party. Even had a nice pizza lunch while watching people go parasailing.

Barcelo Maya Grand Resort: Amazing resort!

Thank you so very much!!!! We really enjoyed our stay in this beautiful resort!!! The ground, the area, the restaurants, the rooms and specially the staff are just amazing!!! It was our 27. anniversary of happy marriage and our 10 years anniversary living in Canada we celebrated in Barcello resort!!! We will definitely come back and for sure recommend this place to our friends ❤

Barcelo Solymar: good resort

we love the beach ; staff is friendly, buffet was good , pool was out of service and green stuff on the button overall we like Barcelo. we like the friendly people at the hotel , a very nice lobby and the good service .

Occidental Tucancun: not so good

We were unlucky to get room with no balcony overlooking back of shopping mall and with noise from ventilation fans 24 hours a day. But room itself was very clean and comfortable. Again our luck, beach was covered with seagrass nobody cleaned and we were "forced" to use pools. Adult pool is just nice. Restaurants are nice and staff is very friendly (except one waiter who served a potato fries for his "friends" and there were not for others). Food was very good and tastefull and best part of it is [... read more] Italian restaurant. Night entertainment was professional especially Mexican night, only they expect you speak Spanish. All in all not bad but also not so good. For that kind of money we could have more.

Barcelo Maya Colonial: Huge resort

Upon arrival, the Barcelo is very impressive. Well maintained and clean, and service at the desk is excellent. The room had one of the most uncomfortable beds I've ever slept in. Much better value and beaches in Cuba. I doubt I'll return.

Occidental Caribe: Beautiful Resort

Overall hotel is awesome! Many restaurants to choose from; however, you can only book three a-la-carte for the week. Pools are huge, clean and beautiful. Staff are friendly. I wish they would stop trying to sell me time-shares while I'm there - I got asked every morning when I went for breakfast. If I want more information about the resort or time-sharing, I'll find out - don't chase me. Other than that, place was great. I would definitely recommend!

Barcelo Maya Colonial: Beautiful Resort!

My husband and my 9 year old son really enjoyed our time at the resort. The place was grand and the customer service was fantastic. The drinks were amazing, I highly recommend the mojitos. We loved the size of the place and the variety of places to go, such as the variety of restaurants and the access to all spots inside the resort. The beach was a little rocky in places, but there was always chairs available on the beach. The rooms were quite big and well kept. The only complaint I had was the food. I was very disappointed in the food. They had a theme every night and one night was seafood night. They had a mountain of over cooked lobster. It was terrible. Some nights the food was better but the snack bars were usually hot dogs and fries. The restaurants we made reservations at were much better and the service was great.

Barcelo Solymar: So-so

What once seemed beautiful has gone downhill. The rooms are not very clean, often with bugs. The pool started to go murky green as my week ended and I was genuinely happy to leave. The staff are fairly nice and I did enjoy myself. However I think that the management of the facility was run poorly and I would not return unless there was a significant price drop.

Occidental Caribe: Very Disappointing!!!!

We spent this trip as part of our 50th wedding anniversary. On our anniversary (August 24th) we paid an extra $35/each to have a meal on the beach. The food was sub par at best!! There were at least 15 male and female all drunk and using loud profane language. Left most of our food which was cold when it arrived. We just left it and went back to our room. There was no where to go. Just one main walkway. Very very poor casino. Machines were 30 to 40 years outdated. If one was to rate this resort it would be no better than a 3

Barcelo Maya Palace: Would Return Again!

Stayed here for 5 days with my 14 year old son. Reception went well. Rooms were very clean and stocked every day. Pool was huge and the sea was beautiful. The buffets were very good and loved the resturants! The Rodizio was our favorite. We went there 2 times. Clean resort and nice staff.

Palma Real: Great location but low quality resort

I went here in August, of course it was hot because that time of year. We were 1 of two groups of Canadians, there was a few from Europe and the rest were locals on vacation. I found that the room was dated, had mold spots and the bathroom door did not close all the way. Also the patio door did not lock which made me nervous on my stay because anyone could enter our room. The positive about the room as that they had working AC and a mini fridge. The maid was lovely, she didn’t speak English bu [... read more]t we made due in trying to communicate. The bar staff were not friendly at first, they would serve the Cubans before us even though we were ahead of them in line; we got a lot of eye rolling whenever we ordered. By the middle of the week we tipped all of the bar staff and then they were lovely and served us when it was our turn (funny how that worked out) and the front desk staff were helpful and friendly from day one. Buffet was horrific, nothing was edible except the white rice and if you were lucky the chicken. We ate off resort a lot so we could have a decent meal and not starve. The resort did have wifi at the lobby but we cut off every 2 minutes or so. The beach is down the street and it doesn’t take much time to get there; they have a restaurant at the beach which was lovely and staff were friendly. The swim up bar pool was closed down so there was only one pool which was obviously packed and had no type of shade, so you can get relief from heat but you will burn in the sun exposure. I will definitely not come back to this resort because honestly there are better out there for the money, the location is the only thing going for this place. My suggestion is finding a higher star and all of Varadero you can get the hop on and hop off bus for 5CUC for the day and can take you wherever you want to go so location won’t be a limitation.

Barcelo Bavaro Palace: Great Resort with an unbelievable Buffet spread.

We enjoyed our stay at the resort. Was a bit apprehensive after reading some of the 1 star reviews. The resort is large and has a mini shuttle service (train on wheels) within. We decided to walk for most part as the buffet and food was just amazing. Needed to burn the extra calories. Free drinks, number of Pools, a Pirate ship wave pool, beach and also paid guided tours made it a memorable trip. Wouldnt think twice about coming back again.

Occidental Punta Cana: Very nice resort.

I thought the resort was very nice, the pools were great with lots of lounges so there was no problem finding places to sit. The food at the buffet and all of the a la carte restaurants was very good. They did an excellent job for Stacey and Matt's wedding and the wedding dinner at the Italian restaurant was great with terrific food and service. The availability of shuttle service was a great help for some of our family members who need assistance walking longer distances. The beach was very [... read more] clean and well looked after. The only problem, as you are aware, was on the last day when my niece suffered a medical emergency when she was given a drink that had been drugged. I know the hotel and the hospital will deny this and state it was dehydration. However, her symptoms and the quick onset of problems leave no doubt in my mind that she was drugged and in talking with her upon our return this I believe was confirmed by her family physician although nothing can be definitively confirmed because no drug testing was done at the hospital in Punta Cana. Our activities for that day do not support their assessment of heat and dehydration, as we drank lots of water that day before snorkeling and were only back from this excursion about and hour when her symptoms occurred. Very unfortunate that this should have happened and put a dark cloud over what had been a wonderful time with family and friends.
