Dreams Vallarta Bay Resort and Spa: ANOTHER PLEASANT STAY
This is my second stay at Now Amber--and I would indeed recommend this to a friend. We stayed in the preferred club, and do think this is worth the few extra dollars-much smoother check in and out, as well as the nice bar on the second floor. This resort has a great location, a vast choice of pools, excellent food and attentive staff. The gym is well appointed and generally quiet. The views are spectacular.
I must say that I was fatigued by the alcohol fuelled crowd at this resort, but you can [... read more]distance yourself from these folks with a well chosen location during the day at the beach.

Iberostar Selection Playa Mita: Great for R & R....
The grounds are well maintained. The staff are very pleasant and polite. The Beach is small and water was quite ruff. Several days the beach was red flagged, so no swimming other than the pool. While the resort does offer many excursions, it is still a 45 minute drive to Puerto Vallarta, so not a quick taxi ride.
The Buffet was good with lots of choices, though it didn;t vary much during our week there. The Japanese restaurant was entertaining. The French Restaurant had great ambiance, lookin[... read more]g like the Orient Express. The food at the Steakhouse was excellent, though it lacked ambiance, being in the lunchtime buffet location, at night.
We were there for a destination Wedding, which was well done.
Overall a pleasant vacation, and great if you just want to sit y the pool, relax with a cocktail(or 10). If you are the adventurous type, I'd recommend staying elsewhere.

Krystal Grand Puerto Vallarta: Great Value!!
We stayed Feb 5-12th, 2017. The hotel rooms offer the standard amenities, along with comfy beds. The pools are warm, yet refreshing. The option of the adult only pool allows for quiet time; when needed. We enjoyed all our meals and although the buffets were not huge; they did provide an ample offering of fruits, vegetables, mexican and a minimum of three meat choices excluding fish. This resort had the largest selection of fresh fruit we have ever had. In addition to the usual cantaloupe, honeyd[... read more]ew and pineapple...there was strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, blueberries, nectarines and peaches at every meal. It was delicious to be offered the medley of fruits. We have stayed at over 10 resorts in Mexico without this type of selection. This resort is close to the new Isla Mall and within walking distance to many great restaurants if you wish to eat off the resort. We would stay here again due to the location.

Riu Flamingos: Spendid Resort, Confortable and relaxing.
The Resort was smaller than we thought it would be. The restaurants were kept very clean and the employees were very kind. The food was good and a lot of variety. The entertainment was ok, we always prefer the show at night that represents the Mexican dances.

Marival Emotions Resort and Suites Riviera Nayarit: Nice Place!
Just returned from a week at the Marival, staying of the Grand side. We had friends staying on the club side, and the rooms in Grand are much nicer and have elevators.
After hearing so many bad things about time share sharks, I listened to someone's advice and asked our travel agent to request no time share pitches upon check in. So when we arrived upon check in, we received our bracelets immediately. One of the sharks asked how I got my bracelets and I told her"no time shares". She respon[... read more]ded by saying we get free stuff. And only 90 minutes. I said I'd rather be on the beach those 90 minutes. She didn't bother us again.
There is also a desk to book tours in the lobby area, but beware that is a time share push as well. Just ignore them and say not interested. And they will leave you alone. You just need to be firm.
As far as resort, it's very clean, beautiful beaches and great food. We enjoyed the buffet and went to La pergola one evening for supper. It was very slow but once food arrived, it was very good. Also went to Amalfi, excellent food and the baked Alaska is quite a show and delicious!
Staff work very hard and are always smiling!

Riu Vallarta: Great resort!
The resort was very good. It is exceptionally clean, the staff are amazing and very friendly! The pools are a very short walk from the beach. There was good variety in the dining room and the restaurants offered a nice sit down dining experience. The entertainment was good. The two excursions we booked were a lot of fun! My only complaint would be the beds are very hard and the pillows too soft.

Riu Flamingos: This resort is a winner
This resort is absolutely immaculate. The grounds and common areas are excellently clean and very well maintained. The food was terrific. My family have travelled to many resorts and this rates as one of the best hotels. This hotel was booked solid and there were no long lines waiting for anything. There was always chairs available at the beach and at the pool anytime so you did not have to get up early to get a good spot. There is lots of shade for those people who do not like the full sun. The[... read more] only drawback for us was the beach, it was on a slope and made getting into the water a little difficult, the sand was a little coarse as well.
All in all a great vacation in a great hotel .

Grand Sirenis Matlali Hills: So unique! But the service needs serious improvement!!
It was really nice to get away from the typical all inclusive. The atmosphere at this hotel is outstanding, the 'tree huts' are so different, and the view from the room is truly tropical.
The only downfall of this hotel was the room service. This really affected our trip because both my boyfriend and I caught a flu bug while we were there and were sick for 3 days. Needless to say, extra water, towels, blankets, etc. were genuinely needed. The issue was that we had to phone twice (after waiting[... read more] an hour or two) to get any of these necessities, which was only adding to our exhaustion. I will clarify that food orders always came with one call.
Anyway, there is some serious need for improvement here!! But the resort is beautiful!

Samba Vallarta: Pleasantly surprised
We booked this resort last minute having stayed at the Riu Jalisco next door in December. The Samba is much smaller, quieter and in our opinion just a nicer place to spend your vacation if you are not looking for a party zone. The food is average, nothing spectacular but quite sufficient ....... however everything else makes up for it. Please go, you will love it.

Buenaventura Grand Hotel and Great Moments: Great Resort
Trip Central has been very instrumental to me in the last decade with my yearly hot holiday. I can not say enough excellent accolades about Nicole Deforest. I approached her this summer about a trip to Puerto Vallarta. She went above and beyond normal travel agent expectations. She helped me and the group of eleven secure travel plans, she assisted with numerous hardships along the way, such as: passport and payment issues, cancellations and participant changes. Her diligence and patience when [... read more]dealing with clients like us. West Jet, Buenaventura staff and follow up with trip advisor, in my opinion, is second to none. Nicole is truly a strong credit to her profession. My future travel plans will always include her expertise.
The Buenaventura Grand Hotel &Spa is a resort I would visit again. First impression of the hotel is limited as it doesn't have the flash and cosmetic appeal of other hotels, but upon entering you are over come with a feeling of comfort. There was an even ratio of staff to guests, each staff member goes out of there way to constantly make you feel special. The staff appear to enjoy their work, job duties and coworkers. I would say they were the best staff I have ever experienced at a resort. I would like to acknowledge one of the staff members in particular, Edwardo, who's work station is on the beach serving guests. He walked in the sand all day long never missing a beat, he would remember your name and your drink preference. Also Leticia Galena of the Frutas & Flores buffet restaurant. She makes you feel so comfortable and relaxed while she caters to you. 0verall, hotel is extremely clean and tidy, best of all you always had hot water in the shower which is not always the case at other resorts.
Hotel Security is top shelf. It has a subtle presence no matter where you are on the resort. The beach area is constantly patrolled with a roped of section where you can relax and soak up the sun. Beach Vendors are closely watched and can only enter the roped off area when granted permission by the security guards. It's awesome.
As good as it sounds, you can always find a few negative points too. The beach needs more sand, it is a challenge to enter the water due to the pebbles and river rock. The resort needs to have more night life after 10 pm. I believe the crowd that frequents the hotel is older in nature, a lot of pensioners that retire early in the evening. After the evening shows end around 10 pm, everything shuts down. If you wanted to socialize or dance a little you are forced to leave the resort. Obviously this is both a plus and a minus for guests depending on the individual. I have a suggestion or solution to possibly rectify the problem. Perhaps the resort could have parties or dances on Friday and Saturday night, they could go to midnight or 1am with live entertainment. After all your on a holiday why not have some fun!
All in all, I had a very enjoyable experience and would do it all over again. I would like to thank Nicole Deforest from Trip Central and the staff at Buenaventura Grand Hotel & Spa again, just outstanding customer service.

Fiesta Americana Puerto Vallarta: Delightful and relaxing stay at Fiesta Americana
The second we arrived we were quickly checked in at the front desk and beautiful lobby of Fiesta Americana. Hotel is just minutes away from down town which is a must see. Buses and cabs are very inexpensive and only steps from the hotel lobby. To every employee at Fiesta American, thank you, thank you and thank you again for making our two week stay unforgettable. We can't believe the service you gave use. The Super Bowl party at the FA was crazy. Platters of chicken wings, hot dogs, fries, etc.[... read more], etc.. was super fun. Every kind of mixed drink you can think of was at our finger tips. Loved the three peacocks that walk around outside. From inside the hotel to the beach, you will enjoy 5 star service. So much food available I don't know where to start. We are returning for two weeks next year.

Melia Puerto Vallarta: Very family oriented!
The hotel was not what I was expecting. It is family oriented and very child friendly which iwould have been awesome if I was travelling with my family. The staff was incredible. They were very friendly and not smug like the staff in Cuba. The hotel is nice but could use a lift and a good cleaning. The food was good and plentiful but not exceptional. The fancy drinks like margaritas were made with syrup instead of fresh fruit. Not sure why. I would recommend this hotel to families that are[... read more] travelling together. Decameron Los Cocos Guayabitos Ramada: Great for older couples
Let me start by saying that I really like Decameron Los Cocos! It is my second visit and I will go back, hopefully for longer than two weeks next time.
This is an older hotel in four buildings (plus one under reconstruction) in a small town. Six years ago, I would have described it as a fishing village with some hotels, but there are fewer fishermen and more tourists now. The town is three blocks wide and about a mile and a quarter long stretched along the beach. The guests are either olde[... read more]r Canadians or Mexican extended families. Many are repeat visitors; one couple we met are there for nine weeks and this is their sixteenth year. Transfer from the airport was close to an hour and half. It will be twenty or thirty minutes quicker when the road construction is finished.
The rooms are basic, but clean. The beds are hard but comfortable. Water was warm but not hot. Building 1 and 2 (plus 5 when rebuilt) are on the beach, 3 is across the road (but has larger rooms) and 4 is up the hill and has the superior rooms. Check in an check out were quick and easy. There is wifi in the main lobby and in the lobby of Cocos 1 but it is incredibly slow and really unusable for much of anything. There are coffee shops and restaurants in the area which have better wifi for the price of a coffee if you really must look at Facebook. I could get e-mail in our room (1108) if I left my tablet on when I went to the beach, so it does work, but extremely slowly.
The main buffet restaurant is excellent. There is good variety and food is generally tasty. Fish and pork are always available and usually chicken. Beef is sometimes on the menu, but is tougher than we are used to in Canada. There is always some Mexican food, which we found usually to be the best choice. The food is warm but rarely hot. The coffee is strong and not to everyone’s taste. Oddly, it is not available in mid-afternoon, but Oxo across the street sells coffee.
The second restaurant is not open yet as building 5 is being rebuilt, but the snack bar next door has reopened. It has a limited selection from late morning until around 5:00 including burgers and fries. The construction work was not at all disturbing while we were there. No heavy machinery visible.
We did not reserve for the à la carte restaurant, although we had lunch there a time or two. It is a bit of a climb (about 30 stairs) up from the lobby. The lunch buffet is more limited than at the main buffet, but I thought the food a bit better. Soups were always good.
There are three bars, open from 10:00 a.m. on. The main one is La Iguana which is across from the buffet along the beach. Los Pelicanos is also on the beach but quieter. There is another at Cocos 4 which we stopped at on the way to lunch at the upper restaurant and I never saw anyone sitting there. The disco serves drinks after the other bars close until 3:00 a.m. The beer is Modelo (Clara and Negra) and the dark rum is Bacardi. There is a selection of tequilas and other liquors.
The beach has a constant flow of walkers and vendors. It is about 30 minutes to walk to the far end where a stream bed divides Rincon de Guayabitos from La Penita. The beach is fronted by restaurants and hotels. Few of them are higher than four stories and most seem to host Canadian seniors in large numbers. Lots of beach vendors sell everything from food (shrimp, fish, ceviche, nuts, candies) to inflatable beach toys, clothing and handicrafts. Pretty much anything can be bought on the beach, although probably at a higher cost than at one of the many shops in town. Pesos are preferred, but Canadian or U.S. dollars can be used. Beach loungers at the hotel are adequate in number but a bit uncomfortable. Some people bring or buy plastic air mattresses to put on them.
There are three small pools (with a fourth at the building under construction). All are unheated and shallow (1.5 metres/4.79 feet at the deep end). The ocean is warmer but sometimes rough. The pools are in the centre of the buildings are not sunny all day. A swim in the pools is brisk.
The staff was routinely friendly, seemed happy to be doing what they were doing and are hard-working.
If you are looking for a five-star hotel with lots of amenities, or a hotel with exciting night-life for young people, this is not it. Best for older couples or those just looking for a quiet time away. For us, it was a great place for a holiday.

Friendly Fun Vallarta: The best marigold puerto vallerta exotic hotel
Clean resort and the staff is friendly who will go out of their way to try and solve any issue you may have. Lots of Canadians stay at this hotel and lots of regulars. My only cautions is that this is not a hotel for young singles as the crowd is mainly adults 50+ and some families. It can be difficult to find a chair at the public beach by the hotel.

Canto Del Sol: Nice Clean Quiet Resort
We spent 7 days at Canto Del Sol and had a nice relaxing time. When we arrived, check in was quick, there was no wait and the staff were friendly and informative. We did have an issue with our room, there was water pouring out of the light fixture over the sink area when we turned the light on. We advised the front desk and asked for another room, we viewed a few other rooms and the hotel was able to accommodate us with a new room in a great location that was in great condition. The only thing t[... read more]hat I would recommend is that you ensure you are booking a room with Queen or King beds, we ended up with 2 double beds that were very hard. We were offered foam to put on top of the mattresses if we wanted but we got used to the mattresses and didn't bother with the foam. The staff are very friendly, upbeat and hard working.
The hotel is kept immaculate, they are constantly cleaning and ensuring that the outside pool area and interior halls, etc. are clean, freshly painted and well maintained.
The beach is beautiful with beach chairs, umbrellas and clean fine sand, very minimal rocks which makes it nice for getting in and out of the water. You do need to "save" your chairs fairly early in the morning at the beach and at the poolside if you want to get one (even though the signs say "no reserving chairs).
There were activities throughout the day, volleyball, water aerobics, kayaking, bocce and a trivia type game. There was no poolside live entertainment which would have been nice for a couple of hours during the day. There was only one night that provided live music in the evening poolside. They do have a poolside bar that plays music and the bartenders are super.
The food at the buffet wasn't the best. We stuck to the fruit, cheeses, salads and fresh items rather than going for the precooked dishes. The snack bar food was excellent, fish tacos, shrimp tacos, pizza fresh from the outdoor pizza over, hamburgers, hotdogs, fries, chicken fingers. You could order from there throughout the day into the early evening. The Surf and Turf restaurant was excellent .... beautiful setting on the patio overlooking the ocean and the food and service was outstanding.
This resort is on the quieter side, nice for a relaxing vacation enjoying the beautiful beach and sunsets, I would recommend this one for the quieter, laid back more romantic vacation.

Decameron Los Cocos Guayabitos Ramada: Great Place
Food was excellent which is unusual in many resorts. The hotel was clean and the staff was very accommodating and friendly. The beach was great to walk and it stretched for a long ways. It was also very warm and gentle to swim in. What was very unique about the location was that it was right in town so lots of opportunity to explore and experience the local culture. Not a fancy hotel but comfortable . Would go back again for sure!

Grand Decameron Complex Bucerias Trademark: It was all well until departure day
Our 10 night stay at the Royal Decameron was great - the food was great, the staff was very helpful as well as courteous, and the entertainment was fun to watch and participate in.
We would return to this complex.
There was an issue: On the departure date, a Saturday- (is that a good day to depart?) - the shuttle was to arrive and pick us up at 0920, but never arrived until 1010, loaded with Vancouver departees, and traffic was slowed to a crawl.
We were supposed to depart the airport prior[... read more] to those Vancouver bound, but they were given three check in lines, and we were left waiting with no Winnipeg check in line for over two hours. There was one line for Calgary. Finally, we got closer to the air transat check in, the computer crashed, and we waited again. It was nobody's fault, and the tech support got it up and running again.
Our flight was to leave at 1300, and we waited.....and at departure time, still waited without a boarding pass Leaving the resort early wasn't early enough if that's the way we're treated.
But had to rush through the secure side to get to our flight.
Luckily, the plane waited for us and the remaining passengers before leaving.
Plane door was closed at 1330.
Airborne at 1345.
Our suggestion: would you organize this departure better, including individual shuttles for each destination - a single shuttle each for Winnipeg, Vancouver, Calgary, and enough time then to eat a lunch - or browse at the airport....
It can be done and be easier on the nerves if the destinations are kept separate instead of all on one bus.
