The beach is nice, natural, clear warm water. Everything else is awful. Broken beach chairs
Many Cubans privileged at restorante , where it is hard to find anything to eat.
Dirty room doors, broken remote, broken tv, no botlle opener, 1 cup and glass for 3, people in the room. They never offer water or drink at the restorante It is hard to mention all bad things, unfortunately

Sol Rio de Luna y Mares: worst place we went to in cuba
Hotel is old, buffet is horrible, no variety, poor quality of food, entertainment very badly done, allowing locals to come, they are rude, cutting in line, no respect for tourists, need more bartenders, had to wait for over 10 minutes to be served a drink, the hotel staff entered my room without permission and took away our bed, left my room door open and told the office that I moved to another room, no communication between hotel staff, asked to see hotel manager for over 5 days and gave my roo[... read more]m number, no one contacted me, had to make an appointment to see her, never saw her , never saw hotel managers walking around, like at other hotels, would not give us a receipt at the end of our stay, never saw out hola sun rep, so I could talk to them. Went to a destination wedding , could not wait to go home.

Melia Peninsula Varadero: Will Not Taint Cuba
Just returned home 4 days ago, we stayed at the Melia Peninsula Varadero, this was our 4th trip to Cuba. Love the beaches, love the weather and will return someday. We always took other peoples comments with a grain of salt when it came to food and accommodations because we never really had a problem... until now! nothing lasts forever!!! we had purchased an upgrade (Elegance Club it was called)and not only did we not receive our arrival gift, the only benefit to the upgrade as far as we were co[... read more]ncerned was we got the room we wanted ( what a waist of money)that is until we noticed the toilet was leaking from the bottom all over the floor. That was our first evening there and because it was a late arrival we decided to wait until the morning to report the problem.long story short we were told the not only could it not fixed but they did not have any parts to fix it! They offered us another room, but it had a worse view ( most hotels try to match or better the room) of which I did not want and told them to make sure we had towels for the next 9 nights at the base of the toilet. First day there I ended up that evening with 24 hr. food poisoning of which I can not pin point why, this left my wife Leary for the remainder of the trip of eating any meat. The food for the first time was the same every day and not good at all and the selection was the worst we have ever had. For three days in a row we had no and I mean no running water for showers at the supper time hour, the longest lasting 45 mins. There were a lot of first time things that happened as well for us...unpleasant staff, being overlooked because we did not speak Spanish, no lettuce ,so called life guards trying to sell me excursions every day,Cubans walking the beach selling goods while the guards turned a blind eye,24 hour snack bar with out 24 hour food, snack bar with a terrible method of service leaving people frustrated at the wait for food, told I could only have one can of pop, I could go on but why. despite all that happened to us we still love the beaches and weather and we will go again just not to this hotel or any that is run by the Graviota group

Melia Cayo Santa Maria: Needs renovation
Room decor was tired, fridge was grungy, only soft drinks supplied were cola & orange, the gardeners appreciated them. Hot water always available, shower worked although the spray was erratic. Toilet flushed but frequently did not clear.
Room was equipped with a kettle & tea bags. Upon request we got a coffee maker & coffee.
Bars ran out of Sprite early on, soda water was usually available on a hit & miss basis. Buffet had a reasonable variety, pretty much what we expected although we did not [... read more]expect a seemingly never ending supply of smoked salmon. That was a definite plus for us. Snack bar was as it has been on our previous visits, basic fare, nicely cooked & cheerfully presented. Beach grill ditto. Specialty restaurants were another story. The Japanese was OK, although fake something was substituted for shrimp. The other two, no fish, no shrimp, no humus, tempura vegetables were not! Simply cold, naked vegetables. The Millefeuille Potatoes turned out to be cold mashed squash.
Simply put, the dishes bore little or no resemblance to the descriptions on the menus.

Paradisus Rio De Oro: Amazing Royal and Luxury Stay at PRDO!
We went for the first two weeks of July for our 30th anniversary on the Royal Service section. We were blessed with sunny days during the entire stay and a full moon! Even with hot and humid weather conditions, we were able to cool off on the beautiful quiet and private beach. We started every day at the beach to finish at the pool. Both areas are well maintained and excellent bar service was provided!
Bartenders would go around to take your orders and would prepare the best tropical drinks [... read more]ever! From Royal mojitos to piña coladas, all were delicious! Thank you to Olga, Marieles, Arnaldo, Osmani, and two other terrific ladies!
At this resort, you will definitely find excellent food and service in all the restaurants especially at Los helechos royal service restaurant! The lobsters langoustines and shrimps were the best we have ever tasted! Thank you to the nicest group of ladies who took excellent care of our food and preferences; Yanelis, Nirma, Esperanza, Olga, Yudelkis, Lesmarie and all the the rest of the staff working in the restaurant! You are the best!!! People working at this resort are so kind and efficient! Their hospitality were at the top! (Sorry for not remembering all the names.)
The entire area was well maintained and very clean. Our room service was impeccable; the maids with their beautiful art figures with the towels, the concierge people with their attentive service and advice, the butlers especially Rolando, Yunior, and Hector, were among the most professional we have ever seen. Thank you for looking into all of our special requests! The jacuzzi set ups were the highlights of our stay! The bar fridge was filled every day and personalized according to our needs and preferences, thank you to David and his team, same for the turn down service just the best! If you need a lift to the main lobby, no problem at this resort, they have carts going around and the drivers are very nice and polite!
If you wish to visit the market in Guardalavaca, there’s a train available on a daily basis at a small fee. We opted for a horse and buggy ride with Adelquis, a licensed driver, and Alacrãn, his horse, at a reasonable price. It was a very nice way to get to see the rural countryside of Cuba. It was beautiful! Thank you Adelquis for your expertise and professionalism!
We also did get a chance to meet Jose, the catamaran captain, very knowledgeable and full of life! He gave us a three beautiful and adventurous rides on the ocean! Two rides on two different calm days were very nice! The last one was more rocky due to the wind and waves but it was fun! “Merci Jose!†We also did some snorkelling in the beach area! Beautiful and interesting world this ocean has to offer!
There were classical and Cuban entertainers in the evening, which was a nice way to end another the day in Paradise!
We also went to the spa for a relaxing part of a day and massage! Aaaahhh... the best! Beautiful salted pool and private beach, it’s a must!
Thank you to the entire team for making our 30th anniversary memorable and very pleasant! The manager, Lina, was very attentive to our needs. She was very helpful and professional! Thank you Lina!
We made special connections with many of the staff members. We are definitely considering going back! This resort is highly recommended! We are looking forward to our next return and to practice our Spanish with all of you and impress our Spanish teacher Yanelis! 😘
Sincerely,
Natalie and Pierre

Paradisus Rio De Oro: Paradisus Rio De Oro (Melia chain) --- Great Resort!
The Hotel service and grounds were excellent. The rooms were kept very clean and the food was excellent especially a la carte restaurants.
Beaches were very nice, always finding availability spots to suntan. However although the ocean is stunningly beautiful, unfortunately there were many rocks in the ocean making it almost impossible to enjoy it unless you wear water protection shoes. With the shoes, you can enjoy the ocean swims thoroughly.
We do recommend this hotel, and we would grade [... read more]it as a 4.5 star.
Hope this helps for you to make a decision!

Melia Peninsula Varadero: Great resort!
Excellent resort! It was about a 30 min drive from the airport. After asking the room was prepared before the expected time which was helpful due to travelling with an extremely tired toddler. The rooms were kept very clean with daily towels and the fridges restocked. Our room was near the kids pool as requested; large size pool with 2 slides and a shallow and deeper end depth which was great for my 5 and 2.5 year old. The beach was very clean and beautiful! Always someone to offer help to your [... read more]chair. We went on a free catamaran ride included with the resort: the employees were friendly and accommodating to offer a solution to a time that worked better for us. The beach restaurant had great service with a BBQ lunch some days. There were lots of food options at the buffet restaurant; preparing omelettes and pasta to your liking. The ice cream was delicious and the baked goods from bread to donuts :)
It was a large resort; lots of walking. We walked about 7 km each day; it would have been helpful if the "car" offered rides continuously throughout the day to and from places like the lobby to the beach etc. Some employees were friendlier than others but to be expected in any place of work. Some of the washrooms didn't have hand soap, toilet paper or paper towels. Overall it was an positive experience.

Paradisus Rio De Oro: Dream vacation
This is my third time in this amazing resort within a year! I always go for two weeks to totally emerge into its beauty and serenity.
I have just came back this past weekend and what I miss now is in the following order: coral reef, right off the shore where I snorkel every day for couple of hours, friendly and hard working staff (Damisel, Beach Bar, Yamilet, Lobby Bar, Addanis, Sale Manager, Delmis and Alexandro from entertainment team, Catamaran Crew at the Nautical Cabana on the Esmeralda b[... read more]each and many others...My dear Cuban friends, without you this and all previous vacations in the resort wouldn't be sooo perfect.
And since Cuba can't come to me I will be back to see you guys as soon as I can. I am fortunate to have found my new home in this tropical paradise!
Muchos gracias!

Melia Marina Varadero: Good resort
Good location, very nice vegetation and garden, very clean hotel, good staff, nice lobby and lobby bar, good food with no much choices.
The beach of this hotel is amazing, the sea is amazing too. Like a negative review, sometimes, the beach bar had no glasses for cocktails, water, beer, juices, which it was very disappointing while it was very hot outside.
Another negative point, very bad and poor internet connection. It took us hours to try to connect to internet.

Melia Cayo Coco: Adults Only ~ Relaxing
This hotel was amazing, the staff goes over and above to assist with all matters. Because it’s so small they even address you by name and give you hand written notes in your room. The food only in the Buffett and seaside were good. The a la carted were not good by any means, small portions to over cooked food. The swimming pool was always clear. The beach was always clean and calm. The entertainment team was really good, something for everyone. It would be nice if there was music at the poolsi[... read more]de. The live entertainment in the lobby was really calming. The disco upstairs was good when it was open. There were no bugs, lots of crabs. Overall the experience was really good.

Paradisus Rio De Oro: excellent for cuba
this is an adults only high end resort.
you don't wear a wrist band
the food was good in both the buffet and ala cartes and the cuban people friendly
the weather was hot and no rain during the day unfortunately it was windy most of the week which made snorkeling difficult.
the beach was great and you can walk for a kilometer. the entry into the water is rocky and you have to walk down a bit to get in. there is also a 2 ft drop off to go down to get into the water
the pool is large and the w[... read more]ater was warm
bring a bubba or thermos for drinks. most of the drinks are served in tiny plastics cups
our room was nice with plenty of hot water for showers btw there is no bathtub
i didn't like the multiple levels in the room
my only issue was the nightly entertainment, i would have preferred more english music.
the scuba diving was free and you have to take a bus to the dive center. because the conditions were windy we didn't visit the best sites but the diving was good and the staff and dive masters were friendly and professional
given the price and the free scuba diving i would definitely return

Paradisus Rio De Oro: Wonderful Atmosphere, Staff and Entertainment
The Paradisus is a lovely hotel but it is truly the staff that make this hotel a 5 Star in Cuba. Everyone from the gardeners, security, servers, bar staff, entertaiment and chefs make this resort a 5 Star. We travel to Cuba for its beautiful beaches, its people and the music. The entertainment staff: Jennifer, Livan, Lorenzo, Annabelle, Osorio, Alejandro went out of their way to keep the guests entertained without being pushy. The bartenders: Yander, Lorenzo and Damisel were always smiling [... read more]and accommodating. The chefs at the buffet restaurant: Yolando and Carlos were always happy and ready to serve your meal to your preference. The live music from the Cuban musicians/bands, on a regular basis during lunch time and in the evening, were exceptional. The rooms were always cleaned very well and the maintenance crew attended to any issues immediately. The hotel rooms could benefit from being renovated. Overall there was always a good selection of restaurants and food to eat. We liked that most of the facilities were centrally located around the lobby which meant that guests did not have far to walk to get to any of the restaurants or entertainment.

Melia Varadero: The Melia Varadero was an amazing hotel.
I just returned from a wonderful weeks vacation at the Melia Varadero. My very first trip to Cuba, It was everything I expected it to be and more. From a personalized check in and wonderful reception by the Lovely group of Receptionists. They were always there to answer any question and exchange our currency. No need to go to the front desk!! I cant say enough about the personalized care by the concierges,The food at the Melia resort was excellent! The food was fresh and we didn't have one bad [... read more]meal. The buffet always offered something different each day. The options from fresh cooked fish, pasta, and meat allowed us to mix up our lunches and dinners so that we always had something different. The breakfast was always great as well. There was the option of having a freshly prepared omelette or fried eggs with all the sides. Fresh croissants and fresh fruit were also available for all meals. There was a large selection of desserts and ice cream, Every day there was a variety of local cheese available. The hotel and the grounds were well maintained and very clean. The restaurants were also very clean and organized. No matter where we were in the resort there was always a member of the staff cleaning or tidying the hotel. The only complaint I had was the masquitoes I got bitten all over. Overall,I would recommend this Melia Varadero to anyone traveling to Cuba .
