Aston Costa Verde Beach Resort: Not a Destination Topper

We found this resort lacking in some areas! The food was barely passable, it did not measure up to other resorts we’d been to in Cuba. The beds were very hard( expected) but the pillows were very old and had a bad odour. Bar servers could have been more attentive to people not holding Tips in their hands. Beach had a rotting odour and was very rocky! Overall a good week but would not return!

Brisas Guardalavaca: Beautiful resort

Very friendly staff to help make our trip a very enjoyable one. Beautiful beaches and alot of seating. The pools were nice also. Rooms were nice and cleaned daily. The resort was very wheel chair friendly whitch was nice to see the only thing i found a tiny problem was the bathrooms were very spread out but all in all very nice place would return

Aston Costa Verde Beach Resort: Very Nice, but learned I'm more about beaches than townes

Hotel was nice, beaches OK but not great, clean , food plentiful, but not a lot of flavour in much of it. Hot water seems to be hard to come by, 2 days out of 7 , I being up first actually got warm water, I even let it run 10 minutes on the one day, to see if it was just the water in the pipes. Excursions .. the Rum, Cigar and train ride was not at all what I expected the train ride, steam engine was broke down(breakdowns happen), diesel engine ran, hooked to homemade train cart with various  [... read more]different chairs , bus seat and benches cobbled together to take us past roughly 4 city blocks(5min ride) Cigar factory was interesting, Sugar Cane factory is not there anymore just some steel rusty beams, lunch was included after 3 block walk to restaurant through town square with locals continually bumming money or trying to sell you something. The ending of the trip was a cigar and a bottle of Rum included in the Excursion price , overall I decided the beaches were more to my liking and my next trip will be not so close to town or the local population.

Club Amigo Atlantico Guardalavaca: Great beach location

To give you perspective, this is my 2nd time in Cuba with my daughter who is 6 now. The beach is breath taking and this resort being located next to it is a bonus. The only downside is that the beach is shared with the public so you will encounter those who try to sell you “cuban crackers” and “roasted peanuts or peanut caramel” of which I bought all 3. My only bad encounter was the coffee bar located on 2nd floor. The coffee barista looked miserable. I ordered a coffee and hot chocolate for myself. His face only brightened when I tipped him 2 CUCs which basically paid for my coffee. Expect this throughout the resort. Its a very tip based resort. I tried the a la carte lobster dinner for 10 CUCs which works out to $14 canadian. It was a delicious 3 course meal. Do not buy gifts from the hotel market. The prices are jacked up 3 times compared to the market that is a walking distance away. The gift shop in the hotel has fair prices, i compared prices at airport. Airport prices were 3 times prices of gifts in gift shop in hotel lobby. The excursions are pricey! Catamaran was 90 CUCs per person, which i find relatively pricey for Cuba. The rooms are comparable to motels or inns in Canada. The pillows are very thin so if anything pack another pillow. Cable worked, a few english channels. The internet is ok only during non peak hours. I was able to use whatsapp. Cards were 1 CUC per hour use. I would def go back to the resort.

Club Amigo Atlantico Guardalavaca: Amazing resort

The overall experience for our 1st time at Club Amigo was amazing!! We will return again. Everyone on staff are friendly. The food was edible. We always found something to eat. The dentist on the resort is remarkable if you need anything done thats where you can have anything done from whitening your teeth to dentures!!!

Sol Turquesa Beach: Nice Resort

I spent a week at this hotel in 2011, and I must say, it has really deteriorated since then. Our room was in much need of fixing up. We tried asking for a room that had a decent king sized bed, because we had paid for Diamond Club, so that is what we were expecting. No such thing! We got a very old and tired QUEEN mattress that was so hard, I had to fold blankets underneath me to avoid constant hip pain. We were told upon checking in, that there weren't any other rooms available. Come bac [... read more]k the next day. So, we did. Only to be told to come back the NEXT day! Well, when you have only 7 days, how many of those do you want to be living out of your suitcase, and spending every day waiting at the front dest to see if there's a room available? We were not impressed at all. The food was very tasty and quite a variety, but hardly any seafood.... We paid for a lobster lunch, which was delicious, and I would highly recommend it. We won't be going back to this hotel.

Aston Costa Verde Beach Resort: Not a 3 star !!

Worst place we have stayed in Cuba , rocks , stones , and broken glass on the beach ! No air conditioning first night barely worked till last night there then nothing again, hard to find something eatable at lunch and dinner, Staff was very nice and helpful, pool area bar was about the nicest part of the place ??

Hotel room was clean. We had trouble with our safe but staff fixed it right away! Food was better then most Cuba resorts! Beach was beautiful but small and rocky! Staff could have been a bit friendlier!! All in all I would go back!

Brisas Guardalavaca: Returning Guest - Still a Happy Vacationer

Brisas Guardalavaca, Cuba ... in a Wheelchair :o) I have had a spinal cord injury for 30 yrs at the C6-C7 level and am a quadriplegic. Four of my limbs have some level of paralysis, I have no ability to walk, and no trunk stability so my balance is shaky to say the least. Therefore, my review of the Brisas will be from a wheelchair users perspective. Holguin Airport - An aisle chair was used to transport me from the airplane to the airport tarmac. Two Cuban gentlemen carried me down the [... read more] airplane stairs. This aisle chairs are new this yr - previous yrs they only had one waist strap to hold me in unlike the one from Halifax where I had both crossover chest straps and a waist strap. Less secure - but we managed without incident. The Cuban airport staff transferred me from the aisle chair to my wheelchair. Did not have my wheelchair as in Holguin it comes out with regular baggage which is on the other side of Customs/Security. I was in an older airport w/c until it came out of the screening baggage area. Customs went by so quick it was like a blur. A Cuban airport staff member wheeled me through to the door set aside for wheelchair users where my Passport and Tourist Visa were viewed. He then pushed me through security where I had a hands on body pat down and took me to the baggage area. After securing my baggage he assisted me and my family to the exit. Without any mobility I cannot access the transfer bus to our resort so a private transfer was prearranged for me by my travel agent. The trip to Brisas was a quick hour. We stayed in the Villa Section. The entrance to the Brisas has an impressive curb but there is wheelchair access via a ramped slope. It is a relatively steep slope so those with little strength - like me - may need assistance. The Reception desk does not have a lowered section but it is manageable. Check in was relatively quick and we were led to our villa room 1107 without delay. ACCESSIBILITY IN THE VILLA - ROOM 1107 Entrance leading in to our room is a bit of a lip - enough that a pop up wheelie was required. It’s the difference between the marble flooring in the villa corridor to the tile in the room itself. The closet is spacious but the bar for hanging clothing is not lowered to a w\c users height. The safe is in the closet as well and was within my reach. The platform that the closet sits on prevents a wheelchair from wheeling in to the closet to get closer to items. The bathroom was large and spacious with a wheel in shower and plastic shower chair in the wheel in shower area. There was also detachable shower head and a spare w/c that could be wheeled in to the shower. WHEELCHAIR ACCESS BETWEEN HOTEL AND VILLA It's a larger resort with the main evening supper Buffet being on the Hotel side but Breakfasts and lunch were available on the Villa side. It's all ramped and one of my family members pushed me to the hotel side without difficulty. There's a walkway from the hotel pool level/buffet area that leads to an elevator so you can access the main lobby and other floors in the hotel. FOOD & DINING All of the A La Cartes were w/c accessible except for the Italian Restaurant at the Hotel which required climbing a flight of stairs. We were permitted 3 a la cartes this yr (4 in the past). Food was great - maybe repetitive for some - but the buffet stir fry and spaghetti stations were a big hit with us. We found Staff very helpful - always monitoring their area and taking dirty plates away/ refiling drink requests. This was our 5th visit to Brisas Guardalavaca so although not 100% w/c accessible it suits my needs and wouldn't hesitate to recommend to someone with mobility issues

Paradisus Rio De Oro: great resort

Beautiful grounds, excellent beach, great service, very good food, great ala carte restaurants, grteat entertainment. I requested a foamie for the mattress and received a 3" egg carton foamie rioght away. :) My only complaint.... I noticed at the buffet the mesh type placemats and tables were never washed after customers. The crumbs were brushed away with the used dinner napkins and then the clean cutlery was set on the dirty placemat. Paradisus Rio De Oro: clean and friendly

We have been travelling for 16 years every April and we finally found a resort that we loved and we were extremely comfortable in. The beach was amazingly beautiful and clean. the whole resort was supper clean, rooms and all. the staff was amazingly friendly they went out of their way to please the guesses. finally no vendors begging on the beach. the beach was a perfect walking distance and secluded. we loved it. keep up the good work. The older crowds respect others more as appose to younger crowds. That made a world of difference to us. thank u

Playa Costa Verde: Cuban playa

Stage needs to be updated. People are great Food is challenging because of cooking Ingredients are fresh and great Entertainment is rotating from hotel to hotel which for repeat customers are an issue

Club Amigo Atlantico Guardalavaca: We love this place !

I cannot say enough good about Club Amigo Atlantico, service is great, staff are friendly and the food is plentiful. Even my fussy husband is happy with the food there. Lots of entertainment and things to do. Market is so close, can't say enough about CA !

Playa Costa Verde: Great Resort

The resort over all was great again. This was our second time back to same resort and have been to many resorts in Cuba and this resort was a return for us. This one we will be returning to again next year. What can I says the food was great, grounds, pool, rooms and the beach were all taken care off. Also this is a smaller resort but just right. It usually has an older crowd resort and not as many younger people. The workers were great also. Like I say this resort is a must return for us. Only  [... read more]complaint is don't go to the Japanese Restaurant with dress shorts as its not allowed(our mistake) but jeans are.Food was great & the cook we had, she was great too.

Sol Turquesa Beach: Great time!

Amazing staff at this resort starting at the front desk from check in. Food was great at the buffet, lots of choices. Rooms were clean we stayed in 362 pretty close to the swim up bar pool. If you have issues with walking this is not the resort to go to! Lots of stairs which I didn’t mind but I could see this being a problem for some people. I’ve been to cuba over 30x’s and although I prefer smaller resorts I would return to memories again, we had an amazing 2 weeks!!!

Playa Pesquero: Beautiful Beach Lovely Resort

The hotel is well laid out, bottle of rum in our room, two beers and some cola, rooms were ok...a little dated, should have updated to Premium, heard there the rooms are amazing. Food was ok in the buffets, restaurants were good, I definitely would go back.. only complaint is the bathroom towels smelled like lard, very unpleasant to use.

Don Lino Hotel: Perfecto

Very kind peaple and nice room. The playa was enough big for us. I think they fixed the place and paint. Perfect view on the sea from my room. I highly recommend this place if you would like to see Rafael Freyre.

Paradisus Rio De Oro: More of the typical super R & R

This was our fourth visit to the Paradisus Rio de Oro and, as was the case in the three previous journeys a most memorable experience! The accommodations, food and remarkable staff are second to none. My wife and I are already looking forward to a return trip next year.

Club Amigo Atlantico Guardalavaca: Awesome beach

Thanks Gail for organizing our trip to Guardalavaca. This was our 3rd time to Club Amigo. We had a beautiful room or should I say suite. Our room was awesome (room Villa 5108). It was nice to see many staff members from our previous trips. Very pretty resort but also very old they did not have any champagne until our last day the spa should have registered masseuse i’ve been to Varadero I believe Varadero is a nicer location closer to Havana and more things to see and do
