We were at Playa Coco from Jan 12/20 to Jan 19/20. It was extremely windy and a little cool. The ocean was clean but very cold as well as the pool. Food was hit and miss. The reason we chose this resort was one particular meal they used to have at the Italian a la carte but they have removed it from the menu. We didn’t like anything else even though we went twice. The Japanese restaurant was the best. Service was average and the room was fine but no drawers to put your clothes away. Won’t be[... read more] going back.

Memories Flamenco Beach Resort: Beautiful Beach!
You have two options when staying at this resort - focus on all the little details that are wrong; or, you can focus on the beautiful scenery, weather, and wonderful people that are more than ready to serve you.
The resort is small, which is helpful for wayfinding. Generally speaking the resort and the rooms are very clean. There is one bathroom that doesn't have toilet seats, but this is common in many countries. The supply of toilet paper was scarce, but that's a reflection of the world's p[... read more]olitics, not the resort. The food is okay. You'll always find something to eat, but don't go here if you're looking for a culinary adventure. The a la carte restaurants are nice. During the day, you'll find more than enough activity at the pool to keep you busy and the pools are CLEAN. The best part of the resort are the people. While service can be slow at times, they are keen to provide you with the very best cocktails. If you do visit, look for Pino at the Sports Bar (Route 66) and ask for a PinaColada. Best on the island.
The beach is the crown jewel of this resort. You can walk for miles in either direction and it feels very safe to do so. Stunning views.

Gran Muthu Imperial: Good value for the money
I brought my Mom with me to this resort Feb 3-10th, and stayed at Gran Muthu Imperial. The check in was quick and we were lucky that we were given our room keys right away. We arrived at 10:30 am so there was no sitting around all day waiting to get in our room. The room itself was nice, spacious, and clean. We stayed in the Bldg 6 and had an Oceanview room. The downfalls were that the shower leaked so every time you had a shower, you also had a flood to clean up. We were told later that A[... read more]LL the rooms had that same issue. We were able to deal with it fine by putting towels around the bottom of the shower door, but unfortunately, they only gave you one clean towel per day. I really didn't want to use the same towel I used to wipe the floor, to also dry myself with. It wasn't the end of the world as we used our beach towels as our bath towels, but still a bit of an inconvenience. The grounds themselves were nice. Everything was pretty easy to navigate and well laid out. There are 3 pools and one with a swim up bar. The pools were quite cold, but refreshing. They had activities during the daytime at the middle pool. There were not enough pool chairs for the amount of people and if you weren't up at the crack of dawn, you weren't getting a place to sit unfortunately. There is a rule about saving the chairs, but it is not enforced. If you are lucky enough to get a chair, don't be afraid to ask one of the staff to get you an umbrella. They do have them, but you must ask! The food was typical for a Cuban resort. Nothing to write home about, but we never went hungry. Tuesday they had a Cuban night which featured an outdoor BBQ. It was quite good and the entertainment was really nice. We only did one A La Carte which was the seafood restaurant and I highly recommend the salmon! It was delicious! The beach out front of the resort is rocky with dead coral but very natural and was fun to find all kinds of cool little creatures there. On the left side of the resort is the sandy beach. it was nice with plenty of lounge chairs, a beach bar, and a place to get snorkelling equipment and other aquatic activities. Overall, it was a nice resort, but I don't know if I would go back to this one. I would probably stay at the Rainbow next door for a little extra money.

Melia Jardines del Rey: Great Vacation Again
We stayed here end of January for one week. This was our 5th visit over the years and have noticed some changes. Hotel was full and this at times overwhelmed staff. Additional Trumped up embargo's are definitely effecting the people of Cuba and also tourist areas. No soap for two days, food assortment is more limited. Food, however was well prepared, presented, and hot. Never hungry! Buffet staff seemed new and inexperienced. Lack of supervision and direction, noticeable change from previous v[... read more]isits. Alà cartes as usual try very hard to make your experience special, but again effective management not in place. All bars, lounges and their staff are efficient and friendly. Beach bar guys are awesome (Joel, Leeangel) Nautica teams all good guys, missed Alejandro this time. Front desk staff friendly and helpful. Maid service team are awesome rooms left clean and fresh.
Overall we noticed a real lack of supervision and management, unlike past visits. These people used to be everywhere and could be seen visiting all areas of resrt on their mopeds. Now it is repairmen using the mopeds.
We love this hotel and its location and grounds are beautiful. We will return!

Tryp Cayo Coco: Amazing Resort and Staff
The Staff, Grounds, Room and food were all amazing. This was my 2nd time at this resort and we are already planning to go back again next year!!!
One of the guests with us was 2 years old and he got sick. The doctor showed up the morning after to see how he was doing and then while walking to the buffet from the store the Manager of Guest services popped her head out the window to ask us how he was doing.
Truly amazing Customer Service!

Memories Flamenco Beach Resort: Great place!!
Loved all of it!! The people who work there are awesome, very friendly! The rooms were a bit dated, but everything worked and they were clean. The food was good and there was lots of choice. The pool was great and the beach was fantastic. The shows they put on every night were amazing! There was always some type of entertainment going on at the pool. The gardens were very well taken care of and the gardeners are very friendly and will make you cool hats. I would definitely return to this resort [... read more]and would 100% recommend it. Gran Muthu Imperial: Would go back again.
Nice resort about 45 minute drive from the airport....... after sitting on the bus for 45 minutes at the airport !!!
The staff at reception are neither friendly or helpful.
We had a beautiful room overlooking both the pool and the ocean.Very clean, and everything worked !!! Room # 9005
The 3 a la carte restaurants are good, but not great. The Main Buffet was good, but bad planning makes it difficult to access the food stations when the restaurant is busy.
The Beach Restaurant is great for lu[... read more]nch.
The Snack Bar is okay for a snack or a late night drink.
The Lobby Bar has good coffee, and most evenings, entertainment.
The 3 pools are great, but you have to do the early morning towel thing.
The Imperial doesn't have the usual beach access,..... but just a few minutes walk away there is a lovely beach, with crystal clear water.
The property is fairly new, well kept and very clean. Had a bit of a problem with bugs, so bring spray etc.
Great value.

Melia Jardines del Rey: Dont go :(
Please don't go to this property.
It is not 3.6☆
I have been to Cuba 8 times. The people are lovely, the service was good at check in and with Air Canada, but the resort is in need of renovations. Our first room was a 20 minute walk from the lobby, the property is huge..too big. We moved rooms but we had two small single beds, filthy curtains, toilet didn't flush, no hot water, dark..little lighting if any.very old.
I have a breathing problem, COPD, and a sleep apnea Cpap machine so I co[... read more]uld not stay in the mouldy room.
The buffet was small, dirty, dark, and people made a mad rush like animals before things were gone. Lots of hot.dogs cut up, whole, on little buns, nothing that I would eat.
We transferred to a different hotel that day.
So, two hotels, 4 rooms later 2days wasted..
I would give this 2☆

Gran Muthu Imperial: Great Resort!
As a first time visitor to Cuba I think this was a great hotel. The room had a working air conditioner and fan, a beautiful clean space with a giant bed and the sofa turned into a smaller bed (my friend said this was a little hard). The shower had a waterfall option or a wand option and though our waterfall needed a clean for water flow the wand was good. The water pressure was nice and the temperature was very warm to hot. The mini bar was stocked daily with two sodas, two beers and a bottle of[... read more] water (large) free of charge.
The atmosphere of the hotel was calm and relaxing in the daytime with a mix of fun zumba, waterfit or games and fun partying in the night with shows and music all around. The staff were always kind and friendly to us during our stay. Nearby to the hotel (a two minute walk past the security booth) there is a spa, restaurant, souvenir shops, disco and bowling.
The food was delicious and there was good variety to choose from daily. The food was fresh and well prepared and nothing caused any illness to any of us. There were some congestive lines for things like personalized omelettes, pancakes or cooked chicken or fish. The ice cream was the best and there were delicious cakes daily. Here was always a mix of fresh local fruit and canned fruit available at all meals and the bread was very popular for its sweet taste. Sometimes as well there were churros or coconuts available around populated areas. The final option was the 24/hrs snack bar perfect for late night fries (etc) or drinks. At lunch time there was a mini buffet available for those not wanting to change to go to the larger buffet. The water too was of good quality drinking or handwashing.
I only drink a little so I didn't partake in the bar as much, but all bar staff were friendly and attentive when I did. If you like strong drinks you'll be fine. If not practice asking for "poquito alcohol por favor" as I did. If you order an americano coffee they give a stick of sugar cane to chew which was awesome.
Check in and out were simple and they provide a map to get to and from the room and the bellhops drove us and brought our bags within minutes.
The excursions available were applicable to most hotels it seems.

Memories Flamenco Beach Resort: Great Value
The resort is showing some wear and tear but overall it was very clean and we had a great time. The beach is a 12 out of 10. The food was very good and the staff were great too. We did not spend any time at the pool so we cannot comment on that since the beach was so spectacular. Some drinks lacking for example no tomato juice for a bloody mary. The grounds were very neat and clean and the shows at night were very good. The kids shows for the little guests were very entertaining. A la cartes wer[... read more]e also very good. Grand Muthu Cayo Guillermo: beautiful resort but watch out for the food!
Well ill start with the good stuff, the resort was beautiful! The staff was friendly and helpful, the room was clean and tidy. The beach was amazing! it had lots of chairs so you never had to wait for them they also had lots of kayaks and other water activities and you rarely had to wait for them!
However, on the third day I got such bad food poisoning that after 14 hours I had to be taken to the doc on site to have IV fluids and a shot of gravol so that I could get some water in. I was then[... read more] stuck in my room for another day just trying to feel better and after that I still couldn't eat much or drink and had to stay in the shade. Now food poisoning happens and I was understanding but then the morning we were set to leave my mom because sick as well. We were supposed to get on the bus to go to the hotel at 6 but at 3 it was clear she wasn't able, we had the doc in and he gave the IV fluids and gravol as well but it didn't stop her sickness. the doc then tried to tell us she was fit to fly ( even though she as hardly able to walk and couldn't talk) so sunwing wasn't going to help us at all. In the end they had another doc come in, he said she was not fit to fly so we booked the hotel for another night, at our own expense of $320 pasos so roughly $500 Canadian. Even thought the hotel made us sick they would not help. They did make changes to reservations in order to give us our room so she didn't have to move while so sick. Sunwing on the other hand was not helpful at all, it took everything for them to cover my moms flight home, they would not cover mine saying that I didn't need to stay. My mom couldn't get out of bed to even get a glass of water so I could no leave! in the end due to the food poisioning we both had we left with an extra $2000 can in expenses. the hotel did nothing to help us and even getting extra water was a challenge! they wouldn't let us take plates of food back to the room when either of us was sick even thought we explained the other person was so sick. So in the end we had lots of expenses even thought the hotel made us sick and the airline was extremely unhelpful. Also after we finally were able to book a flight home the sunwing rep didn't tell anyone and they almost did not let us on the flight!
over all it was a horrible experience, we came home more exhausted than we left and we spent 4 of the 7 day trip in the doc office and stuck in our rooms.
Very happy to have made it home at last and I will not be returning. The Sunwing Rep will also be receiving a scathing review.

Memories Caribe Beach Resort: Won’t go back
Lots of standing water. Lots of mosquitos and bites.
Food was plain and often cold. The warming trays were lit but no heat came from the bulbs.
2 out of 6 of our group became violently ill with vomiting and diarrhea. At first we thought it was a virus but after discussing symptoms with doctor after getting home, it looks like ecoli.
Kitchen staff were observed shaking hands, accepting money and handling food with hands, all without hand washing.
Most staff were pleasant.
Difficult to get[... read more] seats at beach unless you get there by 9 am or pay for diamond club.
Special Kudos to David the pool bartender who was kind and very efficient.

Valentin Cayo Cruz: usual Cuba resort - except for the pasta!
All in all an OK resort.
90% of the guests are from Quebec and 90% of them smoke.
Demographics are skewed toward the older crowd. But there were some people in their 30's and they didn't seem out of place.
Got on a few extra pounds? Come here and you will think you are skinny.
This was out third trip to Cuba and this resort paled in comparison to the previous one. I would have returned there but some reviewers had said the previous resort had gone downhill and this resort was pretty new s[... read more]o I figured they would be trying their best to impress us.
Our previous trip to Cuba was 5 or 6 years ago and we went to Brisas Guardalavaca. Next time, I think I will return there.
Advice: don't tip with money. It doesn't matter if they have lots of money if they can't buy anything. Instead give toothbrushes and Tylenol and shaving cream and make-up. Lots of everyday things that we take for granted that they find hard to come by.
People like Pros and Cons reports top here goes:
Cons
This place is remote. A one hour drive takes you from the airport past absolutely nothing else! Now I wonder where the water out of the tap comes from.
There is nothing posted to tell you want is going on. It was the fifth day before I found out there was a gym! The dancers and band put on a nice nightly show but it is poorly attended (I don't know what the other guests are doing). I would not be surprised if many of the guests simply did not know what was going on. And there is not that much going on.
At other resorts the front line staff were fluent in English. (always nice to ask how their day is going). But here, the wait staff could understand what wanted when you asked for coffee but not much else. There were some bartenders who were not too bad, and, of course, the front desk staff.
Tipping. They just don't seem to care. I know the tipping is pooled, but jeez, be a little grateful! The amount I tipped dropped as the week progressed.
Flies everywhere!
Common toilets lacking seats or have broken seats. Really! on a resort open for a few months.
No sunscreen! No where can you find sunscreen. This seems to be a problem with Cuba, not the resort.
The excursions are expensive! All about 80 pesos (about Cdn$120). For what? A trip to see the local city. I don't care it it is quaint. I ain't paying $240 to take a bus to see it.
The buffet is monotonous - the only variety is in what is missing from day to day. The steak at the grill looks great when it is sitting uncooked. Cooked, it is inedible. Tough as shoe leather.
Pros
The place is new and the rooms are large and comfortable. The bed is great.
The beach is long and wonderfully sandy. On the first day we arrived, the water was like glass. It was beautiful, but boring to swim in. By the end of the week the waves made for a fun swim.
Deserts! OMG the cakes are delicious and the ice cream is luscious.
While the buffet was repetitive, the chicken, pork and lamb was pretty good. One morning we had croissants straight out of the oven. I know croissants take a lot of work, so hats off them.
The beach restaurant served the same food as the main buffet but it seemed more tasty.
One lunch was a pig roast with paella and it was delicious.
The fashion show was good and the models attractive. I stand 5'10" and these girls could rest their jaws on my head!
Despite what other reviewers have said I found the grounds and common areas very clean. (But those flies!)
I had the farfalle pasta at the Italian restaurant. I've eaten lots of pasta in my day, but this was the best I have ever had. Of course it is all in the flavor of the sauce.

We absolutely loved the staff at this resort. Super friendly, and helpful.
The food was quite good and always enough of everything. I did take Mrs. Dash to add a little extra flavour to a couple items.
Our first room wasn't up to what a "superior room" should be. Smelly, leaking ceiling, and bugs, not happy. We were given a better quality room on the second night, after the ceiling leak was really bad, but had to move ourselves ( at midnight).

Gran Muthu Imperial: Beautiful resort
Hotel was very nice, staff was friendly the pools where nice and refreshing, food was good, the was entertainment every night which was fun. The only complaints I have was pool towels where never available for exchange for a new one and water bottle in room was never replaced when finished other then that everything was great
