VH Gran Ventana Beach Resort: Great Resort

We had a great experience here. Friendly staff, from bartenders to servers to cleaning to maintenance, each staff member takes the time to say hello, smile, and ask how you’re doing. Many make lots of conversation and love to chat. I especially loved my morning “coffee man” who remembered my coffee order after just one breakfast, whose name escapes me. If you’re a chocolate person, try the chocolate cakes at dessert. The Caribbean a la carte restaurant was outstanding as well, absolutely delicious food. Try the goat stew entree and the plantain with ground chicken in tomato sauce appetizer (can’t remember name). However, we didn’t care for the Grill a la carte restaurant - the fajitas with alright though - and the Italian a la carte was just bad. The beach is simply gorgeous. We walked the beach in either direction and Gran Ventana definitely has the best beach along this stretch. I thoroughly appreciated the wooden cabana tiki umbrella things for shade. Always a gentle wind at the beach to stay cool. Facing north, there is nice sunshine all day. We snorkelled three days in a row, a nice amenity included with the resort. The pool is nice. Lots of entertainment for kids and adults. Also pool tables, foosball, and ping pong tables. The main pool can be loud with the entertainment, but the quiet pool at the third building is a good option for that. For reserving chairs, going early is necessary for shaded spaces, but both pool and beach have lots of space. Adequate bars, never a long wait. Water coolers throughout hotel for drinking which is helpful, plus water bottles provided in mini fridge. Rooms were clean and well kept. Had to pay for in room safe and wifi, as free lobby wifi wouldn’t work. Total for both was about $70 CAD. Tours all looked very nice. We enjoyed the cable car tour - affordable and an amazing view of Puerto Plata. About $150 CAD for two people. This hotel (and many others) are located in Playa Dorada, a gated hotel/condo community just outside Puerto Plata. Also located in Playa Dorada, a golf course and mall. Mall has lots of souvenirs and a movie theatre. Gran Ventana is one of the first hotels to be let off of airport shuttles (we were 2nd on ours), and also one of the last to be picked up, so not too long on the bus. Short distance from airport - about 25 minutes.

Bahia Principe Grand San Juan: Excellent place to rest.

The weather was variable but enjoyable in general. However, a little too much harassment from local vendors of handcraft items nearby the hotel beach limits. In the buffet service, some times not enough staff to cook omelet for example. The replacement of food dishes takes too long. Room service is very good. Carts shuttle to and from the main lobby is annoying for residents who prefer walking. Too much cars smoke entering the lobby area due to buses and cars parked right at upw [... read more]ind location of the lobby. Smoking area is located near the swimming pool and right next to the walkway to the buffet. Very uncomfortable for non smokers.

Viva Heavens by Wyndham: Had a good time!

Beautiful resort and beautiful walk to the beach. amazing staff. Could use some updates and cleaning. the pictures of rooms look more amazing then they are.The beds were quite hard but the pillows were amazing. Placed in nice and safe area. Food was alright. buffet was good however the mexican resteraunt was a big let down.

Marien Puerto Plata Hotel: Pristine resort

The resort was a lovely property. The staff was very nice and accommodating. The rooms were basic in appearance but all necessities provided. The room felt damp but probably because we were on the main floor not far from the ocean. It was winter and rained early mornings. Food was good. Pool was very nice. It was very clean. We saw no bugs anywhere either. Workout room was a bit lacking but workable. I’d stay Be Live again.

Bahia Principe Grand San Juan: The resort was good

This hotel was too far from Samana airport, two hours bus ride to the hotel. We arrived very late and the snack bar was very limited they only had grilled cheese, nachos, fries, hotdogs and hamburgers. The room is average the bed and pillow was not comfortable only if you like hard beds. The buffet is the same menu every day, the vita dolce is the best restaurant to dined in. The front desk try to accommodate your request but cannot resolve anything the manager authorization, so you will have [... read more] a waiting period before anything get resolved. The beach is not that nice and i got bitten by a lot of sand flies at the beach. The nights shows are amazing. Overall this is a very average resort it not like the other bahia principe that i have stayed at. I don't think this resort was worth the price that i paid for. After all it bests getting away from the cold and to enjoy the sunshine.

Blue Bay Villas Doradas: Beautiful resort

Beautiful property and nature pond with fountains. Beach excellent, lots of palapas for shade which would be even nicer if maintained. Rooms older but clean Food very good. Pool very clean, loud in the afternoons,

VH Gran Ventana's offers a warm welcome as soon as you get off the bus and it never stops ...... Staff are friendly and will help you with any request . The grounds are well kept and very clean We have stayed at the Ventana many times and it is our 2nd home and enjoy every visit . We have made many friends along the way and it is the staff that keep us coming back .. Great work to everyone ! See you soon

Playabachata Hotel: Very good resort

The hotel overall is a very good, clean rooms, great food, sanitation every where. The only problems was that the bad wether, until noon rain on and off with strong wind, high waves and cool water (for older people) until 3 day prior returning home (beautiful wether) sun rise and sets behind your back, everything is so green because the rain does the trick We just got unlucky this time or perhaps winter time. Many people like the beach and are from all around the world, Russia, Poland, Germany, Austria, USA Canada etc. I recommend spring and fall time!

Playabachata Hotel: Great travel Agent

We just give Jack some parameters that we are looking for and he delivers. The Playabachata was an amazing hotel for a family resort. Foodxwaszamazing and the staff were very attentive. We will be going back soon.

Bahia Principe Grand San Juan: Trip review

This resort is big and clean but the staff look very missarable not friendly don't want to help and they don't think your request is important. The rooms are not cleaned properly and you have to ask for towels. When you ask the front desk for anything you are told come back tomorrow again and again very frustrating. The food was terrible need more variations instead of the same thing every day too much seafood signs are not placed in the right place so you don't know what you're eating people ha [... read more]ve allergies which could cause the resort a lot of problems. Immigration was a bunch of bullies and think they have a lot of power very rude I would never go back to this resort or Dominican Republic again.

Iberostar Waves Costa Dorada: Great Resort - OK Beach

The Iberostar Costa Dorada was a great place to stay. The food was good (not amazing), the staff were friendly and the entertainment were fun. The resort is a quick 20 minute drive from the airport and is located right on the beach with a view of mountains in the background. We enjoyed that the buffet offered a variety of options that were different each night. We liked the 3 a la carte dinners as well. Overall I have nothing bad to say about the Iberostar Costa Dorada, but I also wasn't amaz [... read more]ed by it. We visited Bahia Principe in Mexico last year and I would say we enjoyed it a lot more (but maybe this is Mexico as a whole). For an affordable, small resort, the Iberostar will not disappoint. Also, if you have time to partake in the excursion to Paradise Island you will not regret it - what an amazing experience!

Viva Heavens by Wyndham: Great spot!

My partner and I really enjoyed this hotel. It’s beautiful, modern, small and adult only! We had a lovely time for our week long stay and came back very very relaxed. The food at the beach front restaurant was the best of the whole resort and after a night of pina coladas and mojitos, the 24/hr room service was a nice touch. The mattresses were a bit hard but the pillows were great! The entertainment team was also great, very friendly and the nightly performances were full of talent! As two le [... read more]sbians, we were slightly uncomfortable at times because of some of the male entertainment staff but I suppose this is to be expected in the Caribbean. Otherwise, great spot and would recommend anyone to visit!

Bahia Principe Grand San Juan: Great resort for value

The service and the food is very good. The restaurants were a must to go. The beach is nice and long. Hotel would need some maintenance but the important (service, food, cleanliness) is excellent. I recommend this resort.

VH Atmosphere: Great Time - Exactly What We Were Looking For In A Resort

We chose this resort for a few reasons. 1) we wanted a quiet resort with no disco and crazy parties happening..... haha I'm too old for that stuff. 2) I needed good wifi for work and the world juniors while I was there and finally 3) I wanted a gold course on site. I was thoroughly impressed with the VH Atmosphere. It delivered on all the pieces I was looking for and more. The food and service was great. The rooms were a little small but workable. But....all 3 of my critical points deli [... read more]vered perfectly. The atomosphere was very friendly but chilled out. The entertainment was good if you wanted to partake. The grounds are cleaned meticulously each day. The wifi is the best I've had in an all inclusive. The food was a great spread every day. Few minor things for improvement would be - 1) fix the pool table in the bar upstairs. It needs some love - all the bumpers are very old and for a couple of hundred bucks you could fix this up. 2) if you happen to miss the dining hours...so other options need to be provided. Whether that's a basic room service or something..... For example - After golf I missed the lunch buffet a few times and had to either walk to the beach to eat or wait til dinner. Same thing happened when we landed. But..those are truly minor things and not a big deal. Overal I was impressed and happy with my purchase and have thought about returning already!

Sunscape Puerto Plata: It ok

That resort was nice but they aloud the locals in the resort they aloud them in on weekends and holidays. Anyone can come in eat drink take food with them a leave their is no brackets or anything to let you how if you are staying there or not.the adult area always had kids I It when we up great it was so we would not be around kids so much for that. Food was ok at the restaurants it is first come first served

VH Gran Ventana Beach Resort: Great holiday resort

This was a great venue for our family. The staff were amazing, facilities where very clean and the food was amazing. Always something to do or you could kick back and just relax. I appreciated the fact that they had two pool areas: one quite lively and the other more relaxing where we could do some laps. Beach front was wonderful and kept nice and clean. Yes I would certainly return.
