Melia Jardines del Rey: Beautiful beach

Melia Jardine has a beach with soft white sand and beautiful clear clean water. The room was clean and our maid was very accommodating. The food service at Melia is a bit sketchy. We had breakfast cereal but no bowls on 5 mornings. The bread is terrific but sometimes we went without butter. The chefs that cook omelets are very quick and omelets were delicious, but the line up is long. The chef that cooked pancakes made only 6 at a time. 3 people would take those 6 and then we had to wait  [... read more]for her to start a new batch. The coffee at the main buffet was too weak. We enjoyed good coffee at the 24 hr snack bar.

Iberostar Origin Playa Pilar: Late January 2020

Recently returned from a 7 day vacay to beautiful Iberostar Selection Playa Pilar. The weather was perfect, only 1 windy day. We are a family of 4 with a 4 and 7 year old, and all had a great time. Approx. 30min bus shuttle from the airport. Pros: - Well kept grounds. Newer resort so rooms, restaurants, lobby etc are showing no tiredness or wear. - gorgeous private bay with seating (covered beds and loungers) on a boardwalk and free paddleboats and sailboats to use. Reserve for 1 hour blos [... read more]ks. Bar on boardwalk! - hotel staff were always friendly and kind. No pushy salespeople for excursions, memberships, etc. - Ample selection of food, never went hungry. - Cigar bar - Kids club and private pool and play area. Kids club staff very friendly and assisted with an excellent adhoc birthday party for my 7 year old son and another guest. - additional pool beside the swim up bar that was great for kids. - pools always clean and well maintained. - 20 min walk from resort beach area via trail to Pilar Beach - bar tenders/servers very polite and efficient and never begged for tips. - Not a busy resort, very chill especially down by the beach. No other people from other resorts or salespersons walking on the beach as beach front is not connected to other resorts. - fun to feed to fish near on the boardwalk with bread. - good snorkeling in the bay, saw at least 20 starfish the first day and small reef on right side of bay with more fish to check out. Cons: - A few minor things could of went a long way. - more bowls and spoons in the buffet, would have been helpful, not sure why these were hard to find at times. - salt shakers could use some rice, clogged usually. - some parts of the boardwalk had inadequate boards, not strong enough or damaged. Take your time walking on them, no running. - could have been a better fresh fruit selection (typical of Cuba), only papaya, pineapple, and guava mainly. - resort could not seem to find a bathtub drain, despite advising them 3 times. Eventually made my own solution with bar soap plug. Had to make use of the great tub in the gorgeous bathroom! - MAKE RESTAURANT RESERVATIONS ON YOUR FIRST DAY! Made reservations on day 3 and were only able to make one on our second last day, very disappointed. Went to the Creole restaurant, food was great, excellent soup, however desserts should not have been the same as the ones at the buffet IMO. Conclusion: Pros outweigh the cons which are minor in the grand scheme. I would recommend for families and would come again. Went on a deep sea fishing excursion with my son via the Air Canada rep (Reps meet with you soon after your first day to tell you about resort, area, available excursions, etc.) and we had a blast catching barracudas!

Grand Muthu Cayo Guillermo: Dandy

Well, I was happy to ask for an up-grade when we arrived and we got an ocean frontage, which was a saving grace. We slept with the waves and fresh air at night, it was beautiful. The up-grade was a little expensive, $240. CUC. Our housekeeper was really nice, and our room was cleaned usually by 10:00 a.m. every morning, with lovely sculptures with the towels on the bed and in the bathroom. This trip, we had no electricity from approx. 3:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. the following day with no hot water [... read more] or no water for two days, a little inconvenient but not the end of the world. The beach, was lovely as usual for Cuba. I did have an issue with the noise level, the music was so loud that it was difficult to get far enough down the beach to dull it, the pool area was worse. We were able to retreat to our comfortable room with the sounds of the ocean and a good book! The evening shows with the dancers were excellent. Not as relaxing as the last time we went to Cuba.

Memories Flamenco Beach Resort: Fantastic for the price ..!!

Every person that I met, that worked there was fantastic.. really relaxing, happy place The pool is awesome. The beach is amazing. The food was great. Great beer ..!!! Very standard, dated rooms, pretty much what I expected. Clean.

Starfish Cayo Guillermo: Wonderful place

Food was really good,but was bit cold if you go late.service was fantastic.Bar,the beach,all was perfect.Hop on,hop off bus was very convenient to see some places.The playa plara beach was the best I have ever seen,which was 10 minutes ride from our resort

Grand Muthu Cayo Guillermo: Very nice resort

Very clean resort, room was very clean and we'll looked after the maid was very nice,if you needed something she would get.The resort is just the right size,no walking for miles to get somewhere.The buffet something for everyone if you are picky then don't travel. The pools clean and big,no problems getting a lounger. The beach beautiful and lots of lounger and the lobster at the beach restaurant to die for.The weather was fantastic. Muthu Colonial Hotel: Do not suggest sending anyone there

The resort is still in bad shape we thought we would try it again after Irma. The salt water pool & pool bar where closed, only one a la carte instead of 3. There was only 3 buildings open all had water problems. Not hot water when we got it was luke warm. Staff was amazing after made sure we had the best room possible took 3 times to fix toilet still did not flush properly had to use a bucket no water pressure in the resort. This is are 7th time to cayo cocco different resorts and never  [... read more]had any problem with food John got food poison. we were there for 2 weeks the beach is till beautiful the papalas had no cover on top for shade. there was broken stairs & broken walkways . will not go back. the food selection was poor same thing 3 times a day for 2 weeks. So buildings had no water at all

Memories Flamenco Beach Resort: Fun in the sun!

Just returned from memories flamenco in Cayo coco Cuba! Jay with the entertainment group was amazing!! Beach was beautiful but the resort could use some updating! Thanks to Julie Bond from trip central for arranging another great vacation!!

Memories Flamenco Beach Resort: Beautiful as always

This was my fourth time back to Memories Flamenco. I travel with a child (this time my son was six), and the beach is stunning for kids. Excellent sandcastle building sand, no rocks to cross before reaching water, literally walk down the boardwalk in bare feet to the sand and into the water. Four pools, two for young up to toddlers and then one for middle years kids and finally a deep pool mainly for adults. Food was Cuban standard, pretty bland, made to please the masses, not foodies, but a [... read more]lways a selection of hot and cold foods, waiters could be a little more attentive to empty water or drink glasses but I realize they are managing a lot of tables at once. Pool side entertainment was always lively and interactive, same with the kids mini disco and adult shows in the evening. Rooms could use updates but that is to be expected, otherwise they are clean, housekeeping is wonderful, grounds crew are great. About 20 minute bus ride from the airport to hotel so close by, location is directly on the beach so no hikes just to go to the water. Overall I give a great review of the hotel otherwise I wouldn’t keep going back, it is reliably beautiful and has not disappointed me on any trip

Melia Jardines del Rey: amazing resort and very clean

we enjoyed our stayed in Melia del Rey for a whole week...the rooms and sorroundings is very clean....staff are lovely and polite...we love the beach..water is very clean...we enjoyed their night programs and dancing...about the food it was not as good as we expected but there is a lot of variations of foods...Overall i will recommend the place to visit and stay..thank you Melia del Rey for the wonderful getaway...

Gran Muthu Imperial: Very Disappointed

Very disappointed with this resort. Food was not all that great, some workers there were rude, and housekeeping wasn’t very helpful and thorough. On a positive note, the tennis instructor Alex, pool bartender Randy, and a short blonde haired female bartender in the sports bar, can’t recall her name, were so awesome. These three workers were phenomenal and a lot of fun. They made us feel comfortable and very welcome. I would rate this a 3 star resort.

Gran Muthu Imperial: Gorgeous and amazing resort!

I stayed in the adults only Grand Muthu and everything was amazing. The staff, the view from my room(sea side view), the weather, the beach, the pools, the drinks, the food(a few things such as the fruit wasnt the greatest but over all the food was pretty good). Highly recommended! It deserves and holds true to the 5 star rating it has. ☀️

Iberostar Origin Daiquiri: Beautiful week in Cayo Coco!

Our week at the Ilberostar Daiquiri was wonderful! Our room had a king size bed as requested and an ocean view that was perfect! The staff were always friendly and very helpful throughout the resort. Everything was always kept clean and staff were always busy making improvements and repairs. The food in the buffet was always plentiful but tended to be repetitive as is typically seen in Cuba. We never went hungry! The beach is beautiful and clean with no shortage of chairs ever. The entertain [... read more]ment staff ran games on the beach everyday, which everyone enjoyed watching even if not participating. Bar staff were always friendly and there never seemed to be a long wait for our drinks. The Cuban “rum” bar also served delicious strawberry daiquiri’s! We are early risers to go for beach walks so we never did see the show at night. Our last night we had our dinner at the Mexican al a carte which was very nice! Overall we had the quiet relaxing week we had hoped for. We’ve had many trips to different areas of Cuba and we both agree our second time at this resort was one of our nicest trips!

Gran Muthu Imperial: Nice resort

Well the hotel is newer and the rooms were nice as were the pools :) drinks were good but the service was not the greatest you had to get your own drinks and as far as the buffet food was concerned .. there were big line ups because the staff was not trained very well . There were some exceptions .. some staff were very good . The beach was kept nicely but got bite up ..so take your insect repellent :) this was not a 5 star as it says I stayed at 3 and a half stars in Cuba that were bette [... read more]r .. I would rate it a 3 the last night we were there the hydro was out for around 16 hours so we had no water so that was interesting I asked about 4 times if someone would be able to get a bucket of water to flush the toilet .. finally I was going to do it myself then the maid offered to do it ... the staff were pretty laid back but I must say the guy running the swim up bar was amazing :) the only way I would go back to this place is if I got a really good deal on it :)

Gran Muthu Imperial: Grest resort wonderful people.

Everything was great. Clean room. Great staff. we had a power outage which was not the fault of the resort. It was region wide but the staff did an exceptional job to make us all as comfortable as possible and make sure we were fed. GREAT JOB!!!!!!!!!!!

Melia Costa Rey: Needs Work

Our stay at the Pullman resort was okay but they need to fix the infrastructure. The building we stayed at either had no water pressure or pressure was low and no hot water. The facade was either damaged or not repaired properly after the hurricane damaged it and is still evident. The pool had alot of tiles missing and possibly cause injuries and the underwater flood lights were falling out of their housing. The food was typical for Cuba although one night there were not enough clean plates in  [... read more]the buffet. Most mornings had to wait a long time for a server to come by for water or coffee.

Gran Muthu Imperial: Wonderful Resort, Fantastic Staff

The Gran Muthu Imperial is a wonderful resort, the food was very good and the variety provided everyone with ample options. We did experience a few small issues, arriving at the resort at 10:30, we were told our room would be available soon. At noon we returned to the check-in desk and were informed it would be a little bit longer. We did not get to our room until 5:30 pm. There was no Air Canada rep to assist us; and this was partially the Gran Muthu Imperial poor customer service, but the main [... read more] responsibility was with Air Canada. Sunwing and Air Transit had far better representation at the resort. When booking, I'd suggest the other two carriers over Air Canada. The rooms were clean and well maintained, the chambermaid's did a fantastic job in keeping the room clean and stocked with all the essentials. The in room fridge was restocked 4 of the seven days, my something we really missed. The beach was beautiful and provided an excellent relaxing environment. The pool areas were clean and the entertainment staff kept the visitors entertained. There was a power failure that lasted over 19 hours; during this period, the hotel staff were quick to respond setting up outdoor BBQ for dinner. Power was restored at 8:30pm. A minor inconvenience. This resort is on our must visit again list. We've been to Cuba 12 times and this resort was one of our favourites.

Gran Muthu Imperial: Blue skies for days

Overall, we enjoyed our stay. The rooms were nice, comfy beds and a great shower (except it leaked out onto bathroom floor badly). The pools were beautiful with lots of seating around them. The beach was a short walk and gorgeous! The food was decent and plentiful. Our only warning would be to remember to return your beach towel when you leave or they will charge you $30US. Bring your insulated bubba to avoid using plastic glasses all week!

Gran Muthu Imperial: Beautiful resort.

The resort was beautiful, very well laid out, everything was close by but not cramped. The pools design was perfect giving picture perfect views from all three levels. The beach was a little rocky close to the resort but a 100yrd walk and it was fantastic. Being a fairly new resort it was in excellent condition. The food became a little boring by the end of the week and the a la cart meals portion size was small. The staff was excellent and did the best they could with what they had, there  [... read more]was no laundry service so our towels were not changed the whole week and had to be hung on the balcony to dry which took away from the views as all the balconies had towels hanging from them. For an adult only hotel it could have used some night life, after the 9:30 show there was nothing to do on site and most bars were closed by 11. I know it was out of their control but the 16 hour power outage was not handled well, the staff was unable to give us any information and the inability to provide any toilet facilities during the outage was just not acceptable. The staff throughout the outage did their best to keep the booze and food going the best they could and should be commended for their efforts trying to adapt to such difficult circumstances. I am a little upset that no offer of compensation was made to the guests that were unable to leave. Some 200 guests lined up for hours in the afternoon to move to another resort and when it was full the rest of us were left to tough it out. Paying 5 pecos for a cab to take us to another resort to use the bathroom should not have happened.

Melia Jardines del Rey: Great experience for my 15 year old

The hotel itself is fine--clean room, hot showers, nice layout except at night need more lighting on the walkways. The food is less than to be desired...by day 4 my daughter and I could not bear to go to the buffet...luckily we had 3 a la carte restaurant vouchers with our package. These restaurants were better food and no greasy oil smell which was hit you instantly when you walked into the buffet.
