Krystal Grand Nuevo Vallarta: The Good, Bad and Ugly
The Good-
The staff are the only reason this place stays open! They are professional, polite, pleasant and helpful. Shout out to the following staff but there are more:
Max, Amedol -maintenance
Esther, Rosario -waitresses
Marco- customer service
Manuel -Drink waitor
Snack Bar, coffee shop, buffet
Turtles, wildlife, cat well taken care of. Market
Bad and ugly
No chairs at adult pool and people get up at 5am and reserve seats. The management DO NOT follow through with the 45 minute t[... read more]ime limit. It was brutal!
Mold in room
Paid cash for room service and charged again at checkout.
Walkways and main pool design are UNSAFE! so many people slipped and fell throughout the entire place. It's in other reviews and they say they will address it but they HAVE NOT. It's so bad!
Adult pool is too loud

El Dorado Seaside Suites: Excellent value for money! Some improvement recommended.
Clean rooms and excellent service. Great private beach with no sargassum.
Best wifi coverage I have ever experienced Need to improve prepared foods at most restaurants. Suggest having free coconut days and providing an all

Krystal Grand Nuevo Vallarta: Amazing resort
The hotel was very nice, we were up graded to the Time share building. the wi-fi was not good. we had to go to the office area to get wi-fi. Not ideal at all. we also were speaking to may of the people who have timeshare and there was nothing positive. the rooms needed to be up grated and taken care of. this has nothing to do with our original room at Krystal Grand, however, we wanted to let people know not to go to the Timeshare part of the resort. I believe the owner, who is not the owner o[... read more]f the Krystal Grand does not any improvements.

Occidental Nuevo Vallarta: Most disappointing trip , first time to Mexico
First time traveller to Mexico and wished we were warned about the "snake pit" at the airport, The husslers, nearly cost us missing our bus connection, plus the Air Transit represnetative was not observable to help direct us to the connecting hotel bus. We sent everywhere by Mexican husslers in the aiport who apprear to be legitimate travel assistants. NOT .. so be aware, just walk through to the outside without giving any eyecontact , and look for a representative, it is chaos there.
Second[... read more]ly, the Air Transat rep at the us is very rude and not helpful at all, aswell as the meeting with rep at the hotel. Went to the scheduled meeting at hotel, no rep., someone when to fine the person. The person eventurally arrive, and was not welcomng, language barrier, only concerned to selll off hotel tours.. did not know anything about the local area, buses etc. I was other tourists who educated us... never again will I go to Occcidental .
1. Arrived and told we were up graded. We thoough how nice. well, not, we were in a closed off room with no windows to open, only to listen to the music nightlfy from othere hotels, and under our room was as the supply area. Every day woke to deliveries , beeping, etc . and ending every night with loud music from the hotel next door.. SOME upgrade.. to add to this was a disgusting odor from the inside of our night table, all of our personal items took on the odor or what smelled like animal urine,, it was disgusting. No fresh air, moldy air conditioners, and woke to workers drilling 10 other rooms having the air conditioner serviced... not ours.
Complained to desk and asked to be moved after a frustrating week of no sleep. Was told to return the next day, did that, was told no one knew about about the complaint, come back next day and to find that a couple 2 doors down, complained becasue thier tv did not work and were moved that night ....returned 3 rd day to the evening manager who took us seriously, came to room and had the night bed exchanged and them said he will have a "surprise" the following day ... suprise , not surprise .. one hand does not know what the other is doing at the front desk. The departure day after 2 weeks on no sleep, and constant noise, and lack of action, the front desk could not find our reservation with our personal informations -- copy of our passport ... no one could find it, and showed no concern for the fact our passport information was misplaced... I have since written the manager. Accomodations rate - old dumpy... however, the cleaning staff were lovely, responsive and very kind! as I became very sick from the mold in the air conditioner.
Food variety very good, and generous in choices. The 3 restarants are a nice change fa nice change from daily crash bang caferteria and line ups to get in. The pool is often filled early in am filling up with americans who enjoy drinking at 8 am and stay in pool all day. No fun, loud obnoxious , resort .. I lived at the beach where peddlers constantly bugging people to buy something .. it never ended. Overall, if you like to drink, booze flies constantly, the lounge is taken up by sports people, always full of americans wthinc bloody football,, the resort offers very little for options, your are stuck with the same old pool junkies, and the lounge is taken over by 8 tvs of sports , It it is your thing, knowck yourself out. The best thing, was perfect sunny weather while is stormed her in Ontario.. would I recommend air transat or Occidental , not on your life. I an extensive traveller and it was the worst holiday I ever had. It was alot like Cuba but at Cuba you know what to expect.
We have stayed at a lot of all inclusives and we definitely rate this one as best one we have ever stayed at. We were in adult section of adult luxury Akumel. Check in was our first impression of great service, grounds and pools were beautiful, staff were amazing, very accommodating and helpful, trolleys readily available for rides, buffets had good selection and a la carte restaurants had amazing food! We will be back to this resort as we loved it!

Barcelo Maya Palace: OK RESORT
The grounds are ok, it's not small at all.......if you like small and personal, this is not for you. No beach bar or music and YES there are rocks in the ocean. I'm a beach person and I hated this beach because you always had to watch were you step!!! Yes there's go-carts and a bigger water park and bowling.....ALL AT AN ADDTIONAL EXTRA EXPENSIVE COST!! $50 USD for the go-carts. As far as the chairs......after 7:30am everything is gone and the reviews were right!!!!!!!!! they need at least[... read more] 150 extra chairs to maybe make everyone happy. I read the reviews and like always resorts are all the same and I'm not that picky about the rooms, about the food, about the service, however, there was something about this place that I just would not recommend it to my friends. oh, and they now try to get you at the airport to book excursions for a good price but yet, its a set up for timeshares. be careful if that's not for you. You will be stuck to do a 90min meeting just for a better price for a sink hole excursion....but yet they forget to mention the 90min meeting to you.

Grand Sirenis Riviera Maya: Grand Sirenis Riviera Maya Mexico
Very good value for the money...my second time there. May go again. Love the Rocky beach with the fish swimming all around you...but bring water shoes...the free dolphin show so good, that we walked back to see it a second time. Spa is a nice treat, but staff were poor. The only place in the resort we found rude staff. Front desk staff inexperienced or very limited training, but all other staff are wonderful! Restaurants staff and food were wonderful...I didn't like that they used the same[... read more] placemats over and over again, and would put the clean cutlery on them...yuk! Nothing new in the Carribean I guess...much cleaner than Costa Rica though!

Paradisus La Perla Adults Only Riviera Maya: Truly Paradise
This resort is absolutely amazing on all levels. Everything is clean and well kept. The restaurants offer a good variety of food and we did not have any trouble getting reservations. We did however make our dinner reservations for the week upon arrival. Our favourite restaurant was Cappella's Italian Restaurant. The Nespresso bar was another favourite. The buffet was always accessible and offered a great selection of fresh dishes and made to order options. The staff is pleasant and appear to rea[... read more]lly enjoy what they are doing. Easy access to the beach and family side of the resort. We often walked over to the family side to get our gelato which was amazing. The pool was fun but we spent most of our days on the beach, where the sand was raked and cleared of seaweed every morning. Beautiful sandy beach with lots of sitting areas, lounging chairs, and cabanas. My husband and I were very happy with all aspects of this resort.

Sandos Playacar Beach Resort: Great time.
The resort is very nice and expansive, the grounds beautifully kept. The room we had was incredibly quiet. The staff was super friendly, helpful and attentive. There was an issue with our room phone and someone was there within minutes to fix it. Everything was very clean. Fridge was restocked daily. The beach was gorgeous and well maintained with plenty of seating. Mauro at guest services was absolutely lovely. The Mexican cultural evening was amazing, especially the Maya portion. It was fun to[... read more] see all sorts of animals wandering the resort like monkeys, iguanas, coati and agouti. Overall we enjoyed the food and they seemed to have something for just about everyone.
Most small annoyances we had were with other guests, not the hotel. (ie people putting towels out at 8am to 'reserve' pool loungers all day, loud drunks in the pool, people smoking in nonsmoking areas). A couple of small points: check out time is noon but house keeping kicked us out of our room at 11, wifi/mobile in the room was awful (probably because the walls are incredibly thick), you will be asked repeatedly and frequently if you want add on services like massages/spa, we were in a ground level room and there was no way to lock the door leading outside. The lack of a lock wasn't an issue for us, but may make some guests feel unsafe.
Overall it was an amazing stay in a beautiful setting and I'd absolutely return.

Playa Mazatlan: Pro's and Con's
Went with 4 people in January 2025 and had a lovely time. Resort is older, but clean and smaller for those who don't want to go to a huge resort.
Pro's: staff were great, food was typical all inclusive but fresh, al cartes were great and easy to book and the cafe for coffee and ice cream was great.
Went to the Brazilian, Italian, Captian Jacks, the authentic Mexican that doesn't require reservations. Shout out to Hugo (boss). The resort is located with in minutes of walking to downtown, lots [... read more]of access to shopping, restaurants, and local bars. Snack bars were awesome, there is ceveche, sushi and then the typically fries, burgers, hotdogs, nachos ect.
Mazalan is a very different vibe from other parts of Mexico. No issues with hot water and always had fresh towels. We felt safe and loved the local culture. Everyone was so polite and kind. Enjoyed the heated pool and jacuzzi. There is a cenote on site which was cool to explore.
Con's: Beds are very hard, I woke up everyday with a sore back. The nightly entertainment was pratically non-exixtant. The sports bar was a room with 4 TV's and some chairs. We only went there in the evenings, because there was no where else to go and enjoy a beverage and the evenings were very chilly. If you wanted to have a drink before 11 am you will have to wait or go to the OXXO (convience store) and get your own. They didn't have to go cups in the little cafe for coffee and you couldn't order any speciality coffee. The times were limited and not all day if you wanted a afternoon pick up.
Be ware of the oyster bar, (beside the resort) they will over charge you for your drinks and we were told by locals that came up to us to watch out for some of the staff.
The swim up bar is as warm as a frozen lake, never warmed up the week we were there and there was no one there.
I really enjoyed my time in Mazatlan but would not go back to this resort as there are many other places to see and explore. I would say this resort is more like a 3 star then 4

Royalton Hideaway Riviera Cancun: We had a great time
We stayed at the Royalton Rivera cancun. We had great time. Food with good, room was clean and spacious. Loved how it was geared to the younger kids. We would book an early supper and then they would go to the kids dance parties. Only thing I found strange was we would have trouble getting napkins and spoons when eating in the buffet for breakfasts.
Overall my girls and hubby and I had a great time!
We stayed at the hideaway section. Beautiful pool and lots of activities. Evening shows were very good. Lots of fun. Buffet food was excellent Steak house was very good. Beautiful spa Coffee shop on main level is excellent. Beach is nice but a bit windy when we were there.,but the water is warm.

Ocean Riviera Paradise: Great Resort!
The food was fantastic, with plenty of options to suit everyone’s tastes. The drinks were just as impressive—we especially loved the pop-up margarita bar! The staff was incredibly friendly and patient, making our experience even better.
The beach was a bit rocky, so we were glad we brought water shoes. While not the best beach we’ve visited, it was still enjoyable.
Our room was beautiful, though the hot tub upstairs wasn’t working. I also wish it had been a bit cleaner, but overall, it was[... read more] a lovely space.
The resort itself is massive, so be prepared to walk a lot! If you enjoy wildlife, you’re in for a treat—we spotted monkeys, deer, iguanas, and more.
Overall, we had a great time and would rate our stay 4 stars!

Although we didn't have the best of weather, we still enjoyed the resort. We restaurants were great! Food was great! Hydro therapy was amazing! Bowling when it rained... lots to do.
But I should say... the beach was hard to enjoy because of the rocks. The pools were great!

Barcelo Maya Colonial: Beautiful resort
We loved the beautiful beaches, and there were always enough lounge chairs to go around. Stunning weather (end of Jan, beginning of Feb), and the resort is so spacious, so it was fun to walk around. There were plenty of activities (we did a yoga class), and the staff go out of their way to make you comfortable and happy. The food was also plentiful with enough variety not to get bored. They did overbook and move us to another hotel at the resort, which was really noisy, so we moved back to the o[... read more]riginal hotel the next day - they were accommodating about that. Barcelo Maya Palace: Beautiful resort
Barceló Maya Palace is one of several properties owned by Barceló along a lovely stretch of clean beach. Both the grounds and the beach were meticulously maintained. Stay at one and access all, except for adults only property. The room was huge, with a comfortable king sized bed. Lots of storage for clothing, and a large bathroom with two sinks. But the room was damp, very damp. Our clothes came home smelling very musty. Our bathing suits never dried out fully in the 10 days there. The buffets w[... read more]ere full of tasty food and the a la carte restaurants were excellent. Service was attentive and timely. However, the beach bar and lobby bars were understaffed, resulting in waits up to 15 minutes for drinks. On the plus side, all frozen cocktails were freshly made in the blender, to order. Very tasty. The first week of our stay was very busy, so it was difficult to get lounge chairs at the beach and pools. Most resorts have a “no reserving” policy but I have never seen it enforced like here. I made my way to my preferred location around 6:30 each day (I was awake anyway) to leave my towel and water bottle, then stayed to watch the sunrise. Management and a maintenance worker came by and randomly removed towels and personal belongings! This created a couple of nasty altercations on the beach later in the day when people discovered their reserved chairs had strangers in them. Clearly the resort does not have sufficient chairs for everyone either at the beach or around the pools. Unfortunately some people put towels down then never show up, which is incredible selfish, or they reserve chairs at both the beach and pool, also selfish.
On the whole, it was a very pleasant vacation. I would return to this resort or to one of the adjoining properties for sure.
