Iberostar Selection Paraiso Maya Suites: Cannot say a bad thing about this resorts.
Dinning was everything and more than we expected. We upgraded our room and were very nice. Grounds were very well kept no matter where you were on the grounds. The only thing that our party wasn’t crazy about is the size of this place. If you don’t mind walking, this is certainly the place for you.
Other than that, we would rate the Iberostar Maya a very strong 4 1/2..

Bahia Principe Escape Sian Ka'an: Beautiful resort!
Sian Ka'an was a resort recommended by our Tripcentral agent, Susan Snider. It is a small beautiful resort nestled within the jungle next door to a PGA golf course. Our room was very private surrounded by lush vegetation. Four warm pools with ample shaded lounge chairs ran through the middle of the resort - we did not spend any time at the beach which required a transport provided by the hotel to reach. The friendly staff were always nearby offering their services in whatever we may have needed.[... read more] Food was available 24 hours with many a la carte options but we preferred the excellent buffet. We loved our time at Sian Ka'an and hope to return.

Ventus at Marina El Cid Spa and Beach Resort: Nice resort
I liked the resort a lot and the staff! I love how one is accessible to all 3 resorts even if you book with a particular one. The only thing I would suggest is that Ventus at should also have some musical entertainment for their guests. I had to go to el cid to hear music and hear some entertainment while I swim. Where’s Ventus music speakers? It’s really boring to hang out at the pool for hours and do not hear not one music.

Royalton Hideaway Riviera Cancun: Definitely not 5 star hotel
First off, this is the second Royalton hotel we’ve stay in and we know the quality that Royalton offers. Unfortunately, this hotel fell short of that expectation.
The workers are friendly, servers are great! The issue is the hotel smells like sewage in a lot of sections. The furniture and doors of the rooms have water damage from so much cleaning. The smell of mould hits you when you walk into the room. The buffet could improve specially on Mexican night.

On a good note the beach was amazing the week that we were there Sept 22-29/23

Ocean Riviera Paradise: Unbelievable Resort
We were at the resort the week of Sept 23-30.
This was by far the best resort we have ever visited and we generally visit 2-3 properties per year.
The food at the buffet was absolutely incredible.
The a la carte dinners and fine dining were the equivalent of eating at fine dining restaurants here in Canada. The food was absolutely fantastic and the service matched.
The Eden pool was so nice and warm and the drinks were top notch compared to most resorts.
Room in Eden was extr[... read more]emely spacious and clean and having a jacuzzi on the patio was an added bonus.
We didn’t do the privilege but truly didn’t need it as the resort was not crazy busy.
If there was anything we would fix about the resort it would be the following to make it absolutely perfect.
The service at the buffet for breakfast was pretty bad. We would have to walk around to find a server to get coffee as no one would come to our table.
They only operated 1 trolley cart all week from the beach to the Lobby and staying at the Eden wing made for a lot of walking as we would wait 15-30 mins for the trolly to show up only to find it was full and have to end up walking anyways.
The Sunwing Vacations Reps Juan Carlos & Antonio were the rudest most unhelpful men we have ever met in our lives. We went to find out the departure time and they would not help us at all. Told us to come back later and we’re rude and ignorant about it. It took me 3 minutes to get this information on the sunwing app after walking away from them. I then went back to get their names so I could report it to Sunwing and they fabricated a story that I called them Assholes to the Air Transat Reps and that they were going to report me 😂. They should both be removed from this hotel and do not belong in the vacation industry. We have travelled with Sunwing multiple times for years and would never travel to Mexico with them again after this experience.
The resort more then made up for those 2 items and did not make them an issue that had any impact on our trip.
This is 100% a 5 âï¸ resort and one that we will definitely be coming back to and recommending to family and friends.
My wife and I both celebrated our birthdays on this trip and the staff went above and beyond to make it memorable.

Barcelo Maya Palace: Disappointing
We were a family of 6 travelling to BARCELO Mayan Palace. Your Agent suggested we upgrade to The Palace as it would be well worth it. Last year we stayed at The Colonial.
Anyway, our rooms were lovely and spacious although the food was absolutely horrible. Poor selection, some stale food like the Truos and flies sitting on some of the fruit. Service was really bad. We had to pile our plates up as they weren't taken away quickly. The Restaurant barely had anyone in them. So much do that Staff we[... read more]re standing together with no people to wait on.
We decided to try the Colonial.Restaurant that was so good last year. Again, poor everything. The ice cream in all places was runny and more like liquid.
To he honest, we were so ready to come home and get some good HOT food!!
We will not go back again and disappointed we had been encouraged to book this property

El Dorado Seaside Palms: Wasn't as what was thought
Started by us not having a ride from the airport to the resort. Got there and it was pretty good for setting, for weddings, honeymoons and anniversaries. Not what we went there for but was alright! The staff was all over the map though... the booking staff was straight lying about proper times for dinners. The food was hit or miss. I enjoyed having a swim out pool, with bar, from the floor rooms, and the rooms where phenomenal.
The people on the phone, or in the 'help' desks where terrible on h[... read more]elp, unless you know spanish. The hotel had recently been bought out from another company, which made it not in full operation.
Otherwise the hotel grounds itself was amazing and very well cleaned , they had random stuff happen at night ( saxophone was a plus) beach was great
We went to the host the day before to make sure we had a bus ride to the airport, they told us they will have staff come and pick us up at 7 with luggage straight to travel bus
In the am we went to the front around 645, just to be sure and the front desk staff told us it left at 630 am every morning. So the host staff do not know how to communicate one bit and we had to call another cab for the airport. Even when I broke out in hives I asked for some dry oatmeal, they said it will be ordered, yet they never did. I personally told the food delivery hours later for some and they easily brought it.
Either way we did meet some great people and had fun, even with the skunks

Grand Sirenis Riviera Maya: Enjoy our stay
We had a nice stay at Grand Sirenis Riviera Maya. Food was good at the buffets. We had three A la Cartes (steak, Brazilian, Med.) Steak being our favourite but all was good. Room was excellent, clean, A/C working and beds very comfortable. Service was friendly & good. Pools are good and clean. Lazy river ride good. Dolphin show good and free.

We stayed at this resort from September second to September ninth and we had an amazing time. Hotel is very nice, clean, people are very friendly and welcoming. Didn’t have any issues with checking in. Food is excellent, always fresh and delicious. Beach is not the best but we walked to the right and there was nice clear water and we could swim. Barcelo Maya Palace: Barcelo Riviera Maya resort the greates
I was very satisfy with the hall trip, flights were on time without any issues. The resort Barcelo Maya Palace was amazing, more than what I expected. Since I was at the Palace, I was able to visit the other Barcelo hotels in the resort, they all were great, though I believe the food buffet option at the Palace was the best. The beach access was good, really enjoy swimming in the ocean, I even got to see a turtle while in the water. Saw the dolphins in the resort and went snorkeling on the reef[... read more]s right at the hotel beach site. Room was beautiful and staff were all very friendly, accessible and polite. I did enjoy all their pool activities, I was doing aquaerobics and Zumba almost every day.
I went to the different theater options in the resort. And was able to find nice souvenirs at the Mexican plaza and their retail store. One night I went to the disco and we did enjoy the Latin music in there. All was an amazing and safe trip.

Barcelo Maya Riviera: A great time in the riviera maya
We went to the Barcelo Riviera Maya on the last 2 weeks of august. We stayed 14 days and had 2 rooms with 4 people. Overall, our trip was great, the facilities are great and the food and service was great.
Food
Our group love the fact there are only sit-down restaurants in the evenings. The variety of choices are good, and the quality of the food and service was great. We tried the taco bar, sit down, seafood place, Brazilian steak house, Italian, French, asian sit down and Asian tep[... read more]panyaki. Enough variety for 2 weeks of stay. The buffet was great too, even if it shuts down at 6:30pm. The 1 complaint we had was that room service is an extra charge (e.g. a $20 cheeseburger) and aside from very minor snacks there is no food at the complex after 6pm. If you miss your reservation, or come back late from an excursion you are stuck hunting at the other hotels attached to the complex. The buffets shut down at 11pm at the other complexes and if you have to take 45min to travel on the shuttle, take that into account ff you arrive late. The food at the buffet at the Riviera is better quality and more varied than at the other facilities. If you are looking for good food, good service and variety this is the place to go.
Overall score: 4.5/5
(-0.5 for lack of food options after 6pm)
Pools
The pools are 4 side by side pools with stairs and a walkway to go from pool to pool. There are several design flaws. The pools could have been connected so people can move around the larger pool area without getting out. This was a missed opportunity. Instead 99% of people congregate around the bars and those areas can get crowded. There is also no place in the pools with shade. This means if you are going during a very hot time of year you will not have places to get out of the sun while being in the pool. They easily have room for such and could add some large sculptures, trees or other features to resolve this issue. The pools are decent. Large and with a variety of temperatures, water features and 2 pool bars at either end of the facility.
Overall score: 4/5
(-1 for lack of shade and crowding in 1 pool)
Beach
This ranks as the lowest quality feature of the facility. The sand is more like fine pebbles. The beach is full of rocks and there is no way to get into, out of or around the beach area without dealing with an excess of sharp and prickly rocks. It's a 500ft walk in the ocean to get to water that is deep enough to swim in without touching rocks.
You can go to 1 of the other complexes for a better beach experience.
Overall score: 1/5
(-4 for unusable beach area)
Facilities
The bars, restaurants, activities and entertainment are good. Also, there are 5 other complexes (hotels) to explore. There are better beaches, different food options and activities to find at these other places. As an example, the palace was a nice change of pace with a much different pool setup. The pools at the other 4 hotels is nothing special. The food at the other 4 hotels and their buffet is not worth the trip from the Riviera.
The "mall" is hot and just an opportunity to sell you stuff (as the name implies). There is a doctor on prem at this location, but he lacks even the most basic facilities (e.g. ability to treat swimmer's ear) so it's just an excuse to funnel you to a Mexican hospital.
There is a double decker bus that takes you from hotel to hotel. Expect to spend 45min+ to get from end to end. Expect to be hot and uncomfortable as you travel. The driver does not open both sets of doors which means you have to wait for everyone to get off and down the stairs from the 2nd floor before boarding and It's at least 5-10min to load and unload passengers from the bus because of this. You end up wasting a lot of time. They should consider putting smaller vehicles or a 1 story open air vehicle for travel. It would be far more pleasant.
Overall score: 4/5
(-1 for terrible transportation)
Rooms
The rooms are the highlight of this property. Clean, up to date, the bed was comfortable, lots of space and the balcony hot tub was very popular during our stay.
The very minor item of the AC being limited to 21.5 which was at the limit of what my family was happy with. Would have liked to be able to bring it down 1 degree.
This was 1 of the best rooms we have had in our vacationing.
Overall score: 5/5
The Service and Staff
Overall staff were fantastic. Service was great, communication for the most part was good and we generally had a great time. There was 1 issue we have never encountered anywhere else (never seen it at even all inclusives in Cuba, Dominican Republic or other hotels).
Key staff such as those at check in lacked the ability to speak English or actively seemed put out to speak in english. 2 examples: The guy at the front desk when we checked in spoke enough English to hold VERY basic conversations. However; it became evident that was it when we asked him if the unexpected “tax†charge he was asking for was mandatory or optional. He answer yes to both mandatory and optional. The whole check-in experience was very frustrating. The 2nd example was with those running activities at the facility. Such as, the Animation staff (such as at the pool) who genuinely seemed put out to have to speak any english. To the point of “huffing†when anyone spoke English to them. Strangely enough when we visited the palace several times we did not see the same problem at these facilities. We do not expect everyone to speak English but the front lobby staff should at least speak enough English to resolve issues and answer questions. We have never encountered this type of issue anywhere else (never seen it at even all inclusives in Cuba, Dominican Republic or other hotels).
Overall score: 4/5
(-1 for lack of English)
