Sandos Caracol Nature Resort and Water Park: Unbelievable Resprtt
This resort is one of our favorites so far out of the 50 we have visited around the world. We upgraded to Preferred Club which for us was a great experience. Service around the pool was outstanding at the beach club it was amazing too. If you are looking for a relaxing resort upgrade to the Select Club if you enjoy a bit of a party you can head down to the main pool. The food was really good a nice selection for any type of eater. Rooms were clean and never needed to ask for anything during[... read more] our stay. Only issues we had was trying to find a early time for the restaurant as you would need to book at midnight or you could find anything let alone a early time.

Catalonia Royal Tulum: Resort was pleasant but not amazing
Booked with Sunwing, operated by WestJet. Non-smoking resort.
Received emails from Sunwing, travel docs and QR code for transfer from Sunwing but check-in was done via the WestJet app. Easy. Sunwing also sends links to pay the entry fee but only a few days before. I like to have everything ready so I would have liked it to be sent sooner.
The Cancun airport is a mess. Took over an hour to get our luggage, they changed carousels on us without updating the boards, we knew from the murmurs occ[... read more]urring.
The hotel transfer was a disorganized mess. Waited in one huge line just to be told to wait in another smaller line. Finally one of the reps got us on a bus. Was very I organized. Total airport time - 3hours. We still had a 1.5hour ride to the hotel.
Hotel check-in was nice. Fresh juice, cold towel.
Hotel check-out was shady. Had to pay the environmental fee which they advised when we arrived but they did not provide change - even though I paid in pesos and had changed bills a few days before.
Staff are super friendly especially at the beach buffet.
Lots of wild life running around, across the paths, in the tress.
Room was on the 3rd floor so lots of steps and no elevator. Room was clean, lots of towels, including beach towels. Fridge packed with drinks and snacks. Bottles of water a plenty. Being in building 1, room was loud to traffic noise and can hear wild life from the door. Also looks a bit dated but not grungy or stuffy.
Pool was nice. Too warm on some days but clean. Activities ar the pool.
Beach was soft sand and clean. Lots of chairs available. Water was rough because it was windy that week but when it was not windy water was clearer and wavy. There was beach beverage service, they came by often. There was some sargassum but the hotel staff was constantly ensuring it was cleaned off the beach.
Food/restaurants. The food at the beach restaurant is good for both breakfast and dinner. It closes at 3pm and you have to make a reservation for one of the specialty restaurants for dinner. There are 6 of them but if you don’t like the food there is only the 24hr room service.
Entertainment was good. There is an information sheet in the lobby of your building. The list does not say if the event is taking place in the lobby or by the pool.
Bars are at the lobby and pool. The bar at the pool changes hours. Sometimes it closes at 9pm other times 2am but no listing as to when that is.
There are 6 buildings to total. The exclusive club members get building 6 which is by the beach. There are staff that ask often to join the Exclusive club and take part in an hour timeshare like discussion.

Dreams Natura Resort and Spa: It's a wonderful resort.
The grounds were beautiful. The staff was very friendly and professional. They genuinely seemed to be friendly and like their jobs. The restaurants were excellent. The buffet was a bit smaller then I thought it would be after being at other resorts. However the food at the buffet was very good. The rooms were very clean and nice.

Ocean Maya Royale: Great Resort
My husband and I recently stayed at Ocean Maya Royale (March 2026). It's a lovely resort, clean, staff are exceptional, we could always get chairs whether by the pools or ocean and the food was really good. They were very cognizant of my nut and gluten allergy and I still had a lot of choices when it came to food. Drinks were made well and the entertainment staff were excellent. We had a lot of fun without feeling crowded or overwhelmed. Excellent value for the price.

Barcelo Maya Riviera: Amazing Inauguration Visit
As our first ever all inclusive visit to Mexico our agent "Karol" nailed it. The resort was amazing and the weather was great. The room was spacious and very clean. The garden view was tranquil and private. The bar fridge was not cool enough and it was fixed as soon as the front desk was contacted. Our experiences at the 4 a'la carte restaurants were first class all around. The buffet varieties were plentiful throughout the day and the service was outstanding. Our time at the pools were very rel[... read more]axing and the pool side and bar service was top notch. All of the staff at the resort were very friendly and professional. We would highly recommend this adults only resort.

Royalton Hideaway Riviera Cancun: Great resort !
My wife and I just got back from a one week stay at the Royalton Hideaway Riviera Cancun resort and we really enjoyed our stay ! The hotel, the room , the pools , restaurants and staff service were all extremely good. We booked it with the Diamond Club perk, and although we appreciated very personalized service from our assigned butler and the 1-hour hydrotherapy session, not so sure it was really needed. The only negative point I would say was the beach which was really not enjoyable because of[... read more] the enormous amounts of sargassum (sea weeds) that would flow in constantly, forcing most of the people to use the pools instead. Because of that, most chairs around the pool would get taken by 7am each morning, forcing us to get out real early (6am) to drop our beach blankets on the chairs to ensure we got a goot spot. Otherwise it was almost impossible to find any chairs on the entire resort afterwards,
Other than that, I can say that everything about the resort was really high end, with high end services.

El Dorado Royale: Supreme Resort
This resort is stunning in every way, the grounds are so well kept and beautiful. Lots of Palm tree and flowering growth everywhere. The rooms are kept very clean along with the multipule pools. The service was fantastic at the bars, pool service and we had a swim up room that was imaculate and had drink service there also. The room service was available 24/7 and we used a few times for late snacks and also breakfast.
This resort unfortanutly does not have a usable beach, so much seaweed, it wa[... read more]s unapprochable. Felt sorry for the workers trying to clean up seaweed as it was a never ending battle. We took a day tour to a beautiful beach Maroma, about 30 minutes away and went on a catamaran and tried snorkling for the first time. The swim out to the reef was very far and water was wavy, so I was not able to swim that far away in the wavy water, but practiced snorkling around the catamaran. Our room was also Ocean front so we could swim in our own pool and hear and see the sea while doing so.
There are rides available from golf carts and never ever waited very long for a ride. There are many ala cart resteraunts, and the buffet on El Dorado Royale was smaller scale, but lots of delishious options, which were all so good.

Catalonia Riviera Maya: Amazing resort!!
Loved our stay at the Catalonia Riviera Maya. March 2026. 2 adults and 2 older teens.
The family suite worked out well. Spacious enough for the 4 of us. The room was very clean and the housekeeping service was great. We had the Privileged package which gave us access to a smaller separate pool, a dedicated beach chair area and a dedicated bar. We spent most of our time at the Privileged pool but did use other areas of the resort for activities (volleyball etc ). Finding chairs at the pool was[... read more] never an issue and the practice of reserving chairs with towels didn’t have much of an impact as it was clearly posted not to do so. The food options were great. The buffet had a nice variety, lots of fresh fruit and veggies and regional dishes. I loved that it wasn’t centered around North American style fried foods. The A La Carte restaurants that we ate at were some of the best all inclusive A La Carte meals that we have ever had.
The drinks were top notch. All made to order in a blender, not from slush machines.
Being in the gated community of Puerto Aventuras made this better than the average all inclusive because we could leave the resort to walk around town and always felt safe doing so. The ability to walk 10 minutes and play a round of golf was a bonus. We rented a golf cart to explore the town which was fun.
I would recommend this as a family friendly place. Not big on night life but that suited us.
The shows were phenomenal. Very well done. Not too cheesy. Some very talented people in them.
We would return to this resort and highly recommended it.

A special thank you to Colleen, our travel agent, who made the entire booking process smooth and stress-free. Sandos Caracol Nature Resort and Water Park: Amazing Resort
Just got back from an amazing family vacation. This resort is beautiful with lots to do for everyone. Make sure you have strollers or wagons for the little ones as there is a lot of walking. The beach is not the greatest but the pools are great. The only thing this resort needs to improve on is the buffet. There is only one buffet for lunch and there were often long line ups and some shortages of the simple food for kids. The other thing we were very surprised with, considering this is a fa[... read more]mily resort, is that there were no bath tubs to bath the kids in the evening, only showers. We found that very odd especially for the little ones. Otherwise Amazing! Would highly recommend it!

Bahia Principe Explore Akumal: Amazing for families!!
We stayed in the resort during March. 2 adults 2 kids .The thing that we were most impressed by was the kids club!! The staff there is so good with the kids and they did amazing programs with them including puting on a show for the evening for all to enjoy. There were many different activities for kids from ages 3-12.

It was very clean and the staff all over the place was kind and welcoming. Food in the buffet was okay but in the restaurants was delicious ?.
Beach was accessible for kids and beautiful , many fishes to see if you're snorkeling.
The only thing that bothered us was the small beds but we got along with it .
Overall we really enjoyed our stay

Platinum Yucatan Princess: Return visit
This was our second swim out vacation to PYP in 3 years & yes, we would go back!
Being a nice size resort, the lineups at the restaurants & buffet were never long.
Good food, room service & front line staff were most accommodating.
The property is still very well maintained & clean.
Seaweed is an issue (but this is beyond their control), nevertheless, the crew was handling the problem daily.

Ocean Riviera Paradise: There Are Better Resorts
It's a small resort and for the waterpark, only children are allowed there. It's really nice and accommodating for children. If you want to book for a dinner, you better upgrade to privilege because it's hard to get a booking. It is done daily at 8:30AM but by the time you try to book it, it's either fully booked or it's really late. You get pulled into a timeshare and they make you feel really guilty about not getting it but luckily you have a 5 day grace period where you get your deposit back.[... read more] They say it will take 30 minutes but in reality, it takes 4-5 hours! Also the massage coupon is only for 20 minutes when they say it's for an hour! The massage is not even good! The food is decent; the buffet was the best restaurant. For the seafood restaurant, it is really disappointing and also the privilege dinner steak is awful. So upgrade to privilege for a day if you cannot book the steakhouse restaurant. Also, be aware that the restaurants are closed on random days.

Grand Oasis Riviera: A wonderful relaxing stay.
I recommend the hotel for its beach and restaurants. I would not recommend the Italian restaurant but all others were fantastic. The grounds were very well kept and while some guests valued the regular visits from the local raccoons and coatis in some outdoor dining areas I was not a fan.
Staff were very helpful and the day manager Anna was wonderful, helping to arrange something special for my wife and I on our anniversary. I would go back again.

Bahia Principe Explore Akumal: Nice Stay
We enjoyed our stay at this resort and it was nice having access to the four other resorts. Our room was dark and a little dated but very clean and quiet. There are a lot of swimming pools and a beautiful beachfront. We found the Akumal had the best beachfront of the other three resorts as the staff worked extremely hard clearing all the sargassum. They did a great job. After around 10 PM, there really is no night life on any of the resorts and if you want to dance and continue on with your nigh[... read more]t, it’s best to go down to the Hacienda, which is about a 20 minute walk or a few minutes on a trolley. Although we walked mostly it was very convenient having trollies that took you from place to place if you wanted. The food was plentiful and pretty good no complaints. The drinks were great as well. You can easily take a Colectivo bus for a few bucks to close by town’s and Playa del Carmen. The gift shops in all of the hotels are super inflated with outrageous prices. It is best to buy outside of the resort or down at the Hacienda where you can do some bartering. All in all, it is a lovely resort you won’t be disappointed.

Grand Oasis Riviera: Loved it
Honestly loved our stay. Was truly amazing. Staff was very nice and helpful. Room was amazing, beach was nice pool was nice food was great. Only bad thing i could say was the lack of pool/beach chairs. Could normally find some but two days ended up without but not too big of a deal. Bars opening at 11 seemed a bit late but also not a big problem.
Overall loved it, I know it has mixed reviews but I truly don’t have much bad to say at all. Would highly recommend.

Sandos Caracol Nature Resort and Water Park: Just okay.
Hotel premises were beautiful, but we were disappointed with many things:
1. Wayyy too crowded. Hotel was at 97% occupancy and it was felt. The resort only has 2 small pools, and they were extremely crowded, loud and very murky by the end of the day. Beach was very busy and buffet had huge line ups. À la carte was impossible to book.
2. All 6 Cenotes were CLOSED. Huge disappointment, as this was one of the reasons we booked this hotel
3. Beach water had a ton of sargasm and was brown. W[... read more]e swam 2x the whole week because it wasn’t pleasant.
4. No food at the beach or pools. You had to go back indoors to the busy buffet for food.
The only thing that saved us was the big water park that my kids loved.

Ocean Riviera Paradise: March 22-29, 2026
Our family stayed at Ocean Riviera Paradise from March 22–29, 2026. We traveled with our two young children (ages 5 and 2), so our experience was a bit different than adults traveling alone, particularly since our evenings tended to end early.
Overall, we had a very positive stay.
The staff throughout the resort were exceptionally friendly and helpful. No matter where we went, we were consistently greeted with smiles and kindness. It’s clear the staff work very hard to make guests feel wel[... read more]come.
The main buffet was excellent, both in variety and quality. The selection was impressive and seemed to change regularly from day to day, which kept meals interesting throughout the week. I would rate the buffet 10/10 for variety and about 9/10 for taste overall. One small improvement could be the availability of bowls and serving spoons during busy periods. These items were sometimes used up quickly, and it could take 5–10 minutes for them to be replenished.
We also visited a couple of the à la carte restaurants. At the Italian restaurant, the service was again extremely friendly and welcoming. The menu was fairly standard for resort Italian dining, and the food we ordered was good overall — I would rate it about 8/10.
We also dined once at the steakhouse. The menu offered a great variety, but I had slightly higher expectations for the ribeye steak. While it was still enjoyable, it didn’t quite meet what I was hoping for and I would rate it around 7/10.
Unfortunately, during our stay our 2-year-old contracted Hand, foot, and mouth disease. I work in healthcare and know just how contagious this illness can be, especially in environments with many young children. I want to emphasize that I do not blame the resort or staff for this. In fact, we frequently observed staff cleaning throughout the resort. My wife and I were also extremely vigilant — disinfecting our room upon arrival, washing hands frequently, and wiping down high chairs, tables, and utensils at every meal. When you have a resort with this many families and children, illnesses like this can unfortunately happen anywhere.
What stood out was how supportive the staff were once we informed them. They went out of their way to help by offering soft foods (off menu) that might be easier for our daughter to eat while she was uncomfortable. Their kindness during that situation meant a lot to us.
Another point worth mentioning is the seaweed along the beachfront, something I had read about in other reviews before arriving. It is true that seaweed does accumulate. However, what also deserves recognition is the incredible effort of the beach cleanup crew. We repeatedly saw staff working extremely hard — shoveling seaweed into trailers and hauling it away with ATVs. It’s clearly very labor-intensive work, and they do it constantly because nature keeps bringing more in. Kudos to that team for the effort they put in every day.
Personally, I’m not much of a beach person, so it didn’t affect my vacation much, but it’s something travelers should be aware of.
Despite our daughter getting sick, we still had a great vacation overall. Our 5-year-old absolutely loved every minute of the trip and had an amazing time all week.
In the end, we would definitely consider returning to this resort, whether traveling with our children again or as a couple.

Grand Oasis Riviera: Great for the price
Overall, we had a great stay.
After reading the reviews, I understand what people mean with their bad experiences. I am not a very picky person, so I take all reviews with a grain of salt. What is bad for some people, isn't necessarily bad for everyone.
That being said, we ended up getting an updated room. One side of the resort is updated, while the other isn't. So that was where a lot of complaints came from.
Honestly, my only real complaint was that the staff weren't overly friendly. Y[... read more]es, there were some who were absolutely wonderful (mostly at the lobby and coffee bars). But overall, the staff weren't very pleasant. It always seemed like we were bothering the front desk staff - pack your patience. And the rest of the staff barely cared to say hello back to us.
The food was good. Nothing spectacular, but average, lots of variety, and we didn't starve. The restaurants were good! The Italian was my favourite ?.
The beach was okay. We are used to the beautiful beaches in Cuba, so this was VERY different. And the sargassum came in earlier than usual, which didn't help. Water shoes are a must if you want to go in the water!
This was also a pretty quiet resort. Not a lot going on. There were a few daily activities by the pool and some evening entertainment, but nothing over the top.
Some tips - if you can bring smaller Mexican pesos ($20 & $50's) for tipping great. But they were only able to exchange some for us once. They say they prefer pesos, but the front desk only have change for US $1.
Also, this resort is about a 2 hour bus ride from the airport.
Thank you for having us.
