Quite, pretty, beach resort

Small, quite location right on the beach. Clean rooms. A great place for retired travellers who don't want to party. Also great for those who want to lose weight. Food wasn't great! My husband was sick for 5 days out of 7. Most that I spoke with there, were sick as well. Main topic at the resort was, the condition of their bowels!

Outstanding & relaxing experience!

The wife and I found this resort to be absolutely beautiful. Incredible scenery of the surrounding hillsides and the gorgeous reef just off the beach - water shoes are a must for those going into the water and bring a snorkel to see the fish & reef. As the reviews all say, the plastic cups from the bar are very tiny which is why we brought large thermoses. The beer was fantastic, and because so, it was all I cared to drink. ;) The wife would ask bartenders to make her a random fruity drink until she eventually found the perfect combination, and she would return strictly to that bar and bartender because she said he made it just right! Lol One time he wasn't there so she had to attempt to explain what the drink combination was, but she wasn't sure so it turned out different. The next time he returned she asked him what magic combination he was putting into the drink just in case he wasn't around again. ;) Our ground floor room was just off the pool and we would conveniently walk back and forth from pool to room via the patio door. The day we decided to hike up the mountain the tour was cancelled due to a bit of rain from the previous night, but we made our own choice to risk it and venture up the very slippery slope. The view was worth the risk and effort! Seeing the resort and ocean was something out of a postcard. Unbelievable view. It was so amazing we took a hike up the mountain 2 days later, guiding another couple. :) The reviews talked about a beach BBQ so I half expected to see a grill setup on the beach where you grab a fish and go. But it turned out to be an amazing outdoor covered restaurant with great unbelievable food! Every lunch we ate here and both ordered a fish each and every time. Overall fantastic experience and we will definitely return! Only true complaint we had was that we waited 5 hours for our room on the first day. We knew our poolside room wasn't going to be ready immediately as we arrived - which the online brochure had informed us. But with only 1 hour of sleep that night prior to arrival we we started passing out in the lobby. If they had a better estimate of when the room was going to be tended, it would have dramatically improved our first day. The initial 2 hour estimate eventually became a full 5 hours, with a constant reply of "come back in an hour" or "come back in 30 min". If we would have known this then, we would have changed into swim suits and slept & relaxed at the pool chairs. Also don't expect "local" cigar prices if you take the resort offered tour into Havana. The cigar shop they drive you to in Havana was charging well over double as they were charging at the resort's cigar shop. Definitely the "tourist" prices with $7.50 for a single cigar! I was very disappointed. The tour guide was the one behind the counter dictating prices to the group, not the actual cigar shop worker/owner - so you're well aware that the guide and resorts have their hands in the pie as they significantly overcharge. Other than that disappointment the tour itself was very enjoyable and they take you to a nice restaurant and the marketplace. If my wife hadn't wanted to take the bus tour, I would have preferred to have taken a taxi into the city where you're free to browse and sightsee as long as you'd like.

Clean and tidy

Grounds , rooms, public areas were all satisfactory. Would like to have had better wi-fi connection or even an English weather channel on TV. Very poor wi-fi and television reception. A site map of the resort handed out upon arrival would be helpful.

Beautiful, quiet, relaxing - off the beaten path

Wonderful property away from the major centers in Cuba. The staff are excellent, the grounds immaculate and rooms clean. The food is better than average for Cuba, but the staff make this resort special. Come here if you want a relaxing holiday with a more mature crowd. Do not come here if you are looking for the Varadero crowd. Great trip

This was our second time to this resort and loved it just as much or more than the first time. We arrived on my birthday and when I mentioned to this to our waitress at the buffet I suddenly had champagne and a birthday treat to celebrate which was a really nice touch. My only complaint was the smell we would get from the bathroom sometimes in building 1, if you can look past these little things this resort will not disappoint.

Gem in Cuba

The staff are the gems at this beautiful resort. They bend over backwards to please and serve you. A green lush setting backing onto a hill. A great beach with fabulous snorkelling right there! Food had lots of choices & flavours with amazing presentation. Awesome coffee. Large rooms, Furniture needs updating but adequate for our use. Was a lovely time!

Wonderful resort!

This small beautiful resort has wonderful staff and many guests who return repeatedly. The grounds are gorgeous. There is coral just off shore. Great tennis pro. Lovely spacious rooms. Very good food and entertainment. A relaxed and refreshing holiday.

Great place to stay!

The resort was just the right size! Pool was great! Staff were very friendly and continue to ask you if everything is meeting your expectations! The team exceeded my expectations that's why it was one of the best resorts I have stayed at!

Best resort we've stayed at in Cuba

- beach was rocky but the snorkling was fantastic - pool area was clean with lots of shaded areas - rooms were a bit run down but they were clean. - it was a rainy week but there were lots of tv channels to choose from to occupy the time at night - it's not a far drive from varadero or Havana if you want to get off the resort - the frozen drinks are disappointing but the food was generally very good. Much better than any other show I've seen in Cuba. - It's a quiet resort. You won't find any partying here, which is exactly what we were looking for. - There were some issues with WIFI but this was hands down the best internet I've ever had in Cuba and very reasonably priced.

Memories Jibacoa - good

Resort was clean. Grounds well maintained. Units spacious and well kept. Lots of hot water, good water pressure. Housekeeping did an excellent job. lots of stairs in main building to access buffet, lobby, piano bar, everything else was easily accessible. Front desk staff need some people skills. All the other staff were friendly, helpful and welcoming. Food and mixed drinks were ok. Not the top of the line but still good. Pool was huge, only 1 pool - weather was not good so I can't say if pool gets crowded. Beach was good. Again weather prevented us from snorkelling or swimming in ocean. Access to ocean was rocky. Need water shoes. Piano bar great. Evening entertainment good if outside, weather moved it indoors which I did not enjoy.

Great, quiet resort in a beautiful setting

We chose this resort mainly due to its proximity to Havana, however after spending a week there it was obvious it has much more to offer than just location. The setting is gorgeous, sandwiched between beautiful green mountains and crystal blue sea. We aren't the type to sit on the beach all day everyday so having the option of going on hikes, snorkelling (there's a coral reef about 5-10 metres off shore and long walks along the mostly unspoiled beach were a huge plus. There was always something good at the buffet and the à la carte restaurants were also quite good. The only down side was that some of the drinks (piña coladas) weren't quite on par with other places we e been. There is however a small restaurant about a 5 minute walk from the resort with excellent piña coladas at a very reasonable price. The resort is quiet and never seemed too packed, even when it rained and the service was good. We will definitely be returning to Memories Jibacoa.

A Cuban Experience

A very quiet, smaller resort with a beach offering a good snorkelling experience. Nightly entertainment, spacious pool, clean rooms, sufficient lounge chairs, beautiful grounds & the helpful staff met our expectations. The food choice was monotonous, after a week's stay. Heavy rain caused flooding in some ground floor rooms, so definitely would suggest 2nd floor rooms. The close proximity to  [... read more]Havana allowed for a city tour & enjoyable Buena Vista Social Club concert. We noticed Havana is prosperous now and is flourishing with tourists! All rooms proved a short distance to pool, beach and dining options.

Beautiful resort

this is our 4th time Jibacoa, first time since its changed hands to Memories. Very impressed. Lots more shade pergolas around the pool. Food was fantastic. Can even purchase australian wine now, yay! Love the area and the peace and quiet this resort offers. Staff very friendly and understand english perfectly. Rooms, resort and public washrooms very very clean.

Great vacation

Fantastic rep (Marina onsite). Main restaurant not good about knowing which items were Glutenfree. Al a Carter restaurants fantastic! Terrible Aquafina classes - staff should be trained; guests should be taken out first time in reef to show them what to do and more importantly, what not to do (or the reef will continue to be destroyed in that area). Nice to see couples walking around hand in hand. Fantastic service from trip central rep who booked my trip

Good

Best location. Nice service. Food always fresh. Ocean view amazing. Rooms are in good condition . Cuban people are the best. Cac currency is expensive. Not enough table to eat outside always line up. Massage is expensive. Fresh fish every day. Milk products good.

Beautiful resort!

We found the resort to exceed expectations after reading many reviews. The food is better than anticipated and Alberto, the tennis pro, is outstanding ... took two lessons while visiting. The current manager is doing much to make the resort, food, etc better. Also close to Havana for a long day visit as it again is becoming a go to world tourist city.

Just perfect!

I loved the fact that everything was within walking distance. You could see the ocean from many points on the resort, including the lobby area. You knew where everything was happening and didn't have to go far to find it. Very helpful and friendly staff. Lots of tree shade on the beach.

Fantastic resort!

Grounds and scenery were beautiful, people (staff and other guests) were awesome! Public areas and rooms were very well kept and clean, food was above average. All in all a great place to spend a week or more.

Relaxing and friendly

This was my third time at Memories Jibacoa and it won't be my last. Clean, comfortable and friendly. As an adults only, it's much quieter and relaxing. Great beach, nice pool, friendly staff. Nice piano bar.
