Our Best Trip

Everything was absolutely great. We had a wonderful and relaxing time . I would suggest all couples get away and do this vacation once a year . All the stresses of say today life will soon disappear . We are already dreaming about doing it all over again next year .

Great place to stay!

Everything was excellent at this location. However, full day entertainment can be improved. Entertainment in the main lobby was only for a few hours at night, should be throughout the day. The food was excellent!

Great value

Hi, We went to the Sol Melia for the golfing! There was a huge group of us and we all stayed at the resort, in the hotel and in the cottages. The staff were super friendly and accommodating. There is only one elevator per wing, so get used to taking the stairs, and the first flight is a big one! I'll try to break this down into sections to see if it works: Facilities / Grounds: Much bigger than I expected, fantastic beach, pool area and the lobby is perfect size. The pool was not heated and w [... read more]as always abandoned - it looked perfect but was chilly. The beach was nicely set up with palm shades and easy access to the bar. Entertainment by the beach was good - i was told. We were always golfing! We were able to walk around, it was very nice and clean and well maintained. Cleaners were good (one day our maid forgot towels, but she apologized as she realized she forgot them when she saw us the next day). Overall a great visual, clean and pleasant facility with lots of room. Food: Always a hit and miss in Cuba - the buffet was pretty good. We found stuff we liked - panini press :-) - and stuck with it. The burritos and fresh cooked grill menu were great. The sandwiches at the club bar were great as well with passable french fries. Bring your own salt if you want some - the humidity just clogs the shakers... or you are forced to open the bottom! The a la carte was hit and miss. We had a large group so it was probably locked down - surf/turf - stay away. The japanese - is nice rice and not bad. The italian place was the best with nice thin crust pizza and good pasta. You won't starve at this place, they could have had a bit better fresh fruit, but then again, it was early January. Golf: Great little course - we played 7 days. Bring your own beer if you can, it's actually a bit pricey on the course. They charge a lot for carts but you have to use a cart as there is a lot of distance from Green to Tee. You will have fun on this course, you can score well and if you are a casual golfer it will keep you engaged. Varadero: only a 10 CUC drive away in a fun Cuban taxi - we got lucky in that we got some nice rides. The Beatles bar is fantastic, great bands and reasonable beer prices. We also went to the CAVE - but not worth the drive, and cover. Stay at Beatles. I would definitely go back to this resort if I was golfing. Otherwise I'd probably go to Melia Cayo Coco adult only - food was better and a bit smaller, more private.

Great place for a golf trip

Even though the weather wasn't great, we still had a great trip, mostly due to how well we were treated at this resort. Very convenient to the golf course as well. The total cost for the trip was really good. The staff at the resort were really friendly and helpful, the food was good (particularly the Japanese and Italian restaurants), and it was a really comfortable place to stay at. We even quite enjoyed the shows.

Great resort

Everything was great but some of the serving staff staff were very unfriendly which put a downer on some of the dinners. The GM was very out going and helpful if we had any issues. Rooms were excellent.

Beautiful

Very clean, beautiful location, great beach, very nice golf course The manager was always available to speak to and was very helpful and friendly! The only bad thing was the weather was bad and the pool bar near our bungalows and was only open a couple times because of that.

Amazing resort

This resort is absolute heaven. The staff are friendly and there are plenty of commodities around the resort that make your stay memorable. I've been to Cuba four times myself and this time it was my girlfriend accompanying me to this resort. Out of all resorts i can confidently say this was the best Cuba has to offer to date. There are three pools and the views are amazing. We stayed in a bungalow with an amzing ocean view. Waking up in the mornings was worth it. The maid was very friendly and  [... read more]left us beers and waters dauly. We even had a complementary bottle of cuban rum. There is a ping pong table and pool table for those interested. What I found amazing is that the boat rides (sail boat, kayak and paddle boats) were free as part of our stay. The staff on the beach are generally disinterested in beeing pushy when compared to other resorts but they do remind you of their offers extra to those included. Our stay would have been better if only for better weather and better service at the beach. I would have rated 5 stars but those are pretty big pluses for us when staying in all inclusive resorts.

Walk to golf each morning

Perfect location right on the golf course and on the beach. Rooms were clean but basic. Staff were friendly and accommodating for the most part but having a CUC in one hand at all times improved the service immensely. Food in Cuba is very different but you could find something that suited your taste and dietary needs. The Japanese restaurant was the best and would recommend making reservations when you first arrive. The ocean was beautiful, the onsite pools were very cold though.

everything good, friendly atmosphere, god food, Bernard is doing his job -very proffesional , very clean hotell have a plan to come again next year, hope they are going to renew contract with varadero golf club for many more years

Melia Las Americas

Had no concerns about anything. If the goal was to get away from winter for a short period of time, meet people, enjoy their company; then the goal was accomplished in spades. The resort was well organized and very accommodating. This comment is not a form of criticism, but it would have been nice to have access to a hot tub, where one could relax after a game of golf.

Trip of a lifetime

The Melia Las Americas was beautiful inside and out. Staff was amazing, food was amazing, never seen anything quite like it and we are definitely going back. Top notch all the way. We made some really great friends there, including some of the staff.

A wonderful gettaway

This was my first experience in Cuba and it was an incredible one. The staff was friendly and welcoming, the manager was friendly and available, and there was always something to do. The beach was clean and you were always able to find a place to sit and shade if that is what you wanted. It was quiet, the beds were comfortable, the service was fast and efficient. Even the food was rather impressive, though I was not fond of the Italian restaurant. Authentic Cuba, Staff Stars Shine!

The first greeting upon arrival was from friendly helpful staff at check in and they even followed up with a phone call to see if we liked our room. We stayed in a bungalow at the far end of the property but with the kind assistance of the front desk a few days later, moved to one closer to the pool. Special thanks Yania and Boris. The beach was fantastic and we saw Roberto from the animation team every day and enjoyed his great enthusiasm for the games and entertainment provided. The comedian i [... read more]n costume each evening was pricless! The entire management team was at one event on the beach and guests were introduced to them. We were so impressed after seeing the GM at breakfast that same day greeting guests, then again at dinner. He was visible throughout the resort and very approachable and professional. The language skills of the staff were very impressive with German and even a bit of Russian along with French Italian and English. All staff greeted us no matter what job they were doing and from the gardeners to the housekeeping staff. We had one room maintenance issue which was attended to promptly. Every call to Guest Services was answered in a friendly and helpful manner. Room service was quick and pleasant and the housekeeping was of a very high standard every day of our stay. The highlight of our visit was the bungalow pool staff which provided us with great food, fun exchanges and great service every time. Thanks Marlon, Joel and the others who made our vacation memorable. You can upgrade a resort all you like but without the staff and their dedication to excellent service it would just be another resort. This place is very special and evident by the numerous returning guests

Still getting better

We traveled from October 14 to the 21st. We stayed in the bungalows. Flight down was great. Staff at check in were very pleasant. The weather for this week was supposed to be the best. But we were there to have some fun with our friends. Cloudy and windy the 1st 4 days but very warm. Golfed these days. Took Sunday off. Food was great I think it was better than the last time we were here. This was the 5th time we stayed at this resort. The staff are great!! They are always there to help. Sunday w [... read more]as not a great day for weather so we sat around and played games and read. Here is where it gets interesting. We were at a friends bungalow within 50 yards of ours. The rain had been heavy that day. We were leaving and we did not go around but we crossed the grassy area. It was really more like mud with all of the rain. My wife's saddle caught it some of the mud. She stumbled forward and fell hitting her head on a palm tree. Once I was able to get her to roll over she had a very nasty cut and bump on her forehead. This however was not the worst of it. She could move her arm. I ran and called the front desk for assistance. They asked ,if we wanted a doctor. I said yes. They said the doctor that was on duty was gone and they would have to send for one. No hotel staff ever came to assist us. The ambulance and Doctor showed up about 15 minutes later. They could not bring a cernny in so we had to get my wife up and walk of from the back of the resort to ththe ambulance. Head varadero to the hospital clinic. Doctor said that my wife's arm was broken. At the hospital they took exrays and yes arm broken just below the shoulder. She was given a shot for pain and bandaged up and given so medication. Back to the resort in about and hour and a half. Not bad. Once back at the hotel staff moved us from the bungalows to the main building. No problems. From then on the hotel staff were fantastic. The next day they called us 6 times to see what we needed. The Sunwing rep called 5 times that morning to make sure we were ok. Rafele looked after everything for us. Pre book our seats back. Arranged for and extra late check. Customer service from the hotel checked, in on us every day til we left. Fantastic. My only problem was they did not come out when we called them the day it happened. Do we like this resort you bet we will be back. This did not detour us one bit. Beds were great, food was great, service was great.

Great service, great location for golf

the beach is almost private one!! the food (a part the Limensolo) were very good for Cuban standard. most of the staff were very helfull. the Wi-Fi is getting much better with good connections and speed. they need to do a better show in the evenings...

If you love golf, you'll love this resort!

The 18 hole golf course is excellent. The grounds are spectacular, and each day staff cut down coconuts from the trees so guests can enjoy. The beach is just breathtaking! Bartender Raul is worth the price of admission alone. Yoga and ocean exercise with Lazaro will keep you laughing and moving. We had a king size bed in the main hotel and it was very firm (too much so for us). If you can, get a bungalow as they are much nicer.

Beautiful Beach!

We had a great time. The resort was very nice. The beach was amazing. The staff were very friendly and helpful. I do think the bar staff could have taken a little more pride when making cocktails. Worst margarita I have ever had. No umbrellas or fruit with frozen drinks. Also, I found some of the other guests to be very rude.

Fabulous resort

This was our first time to Varadero and 5th time in Cuba. Love the weather and love the people. We have decided that we will be back to Varadero and back to this resort in the future. The resort was very clean, staff were very friendly, rooms were very clean, beach was amazing!!! Pools were very clean although they could have used a painting. Food was great. Bernard is a very personable individual. Truly enjoyed staying at this resort. We really couldn't find any fault with our whole experience at this resort.

Location and service

The hotel location was perfect, beach and food awesome! The staff very friendly. 3rd time in Cuba and first time at the Melia Las America and for sure not our last. The price for July was too high and was disappointed with the room (2 single beds) with not quit an ocean view even though we paid extra for it. That was the only point I would improve on.

Nice vacation

This is a beautiful hotel with a well-maintained beachfront. My girlfriend and I had a great time. I think it's a bit of an older resort (ie: older people), so if that suits your personality then it might be for you. We're not the party type - we enjoyed relaxing on the beach, hanging out in the water, eating at the restaurants, and taking advantage of the free room service. Heads up: I don't know if it's customary for Cuban hotels to not include free internet in the lobby, but at Melia Las Ame [... read more]ricas you have to pay for internet cards: 2.50 CUC for 1 hour of internet service. This was highly inconvenient because I couldn't trade my stocks throughout the day like I usually do, and it happened to be during the Greek default so it was a little unlucky. The internet connection doesn't reach the bedroom either. I almost needed business services (print/scan) and the reception was finding a way to accommodate me which was nice. Turned out I didn't need it but I appreciated their help. The front desk is a little slow for the most part, but they get the job done. The food: there are a few options. For a one week stay you get 3 a la carte reservations. Italian A la carte (reservation required) - food was OK, atmosphere was nice. tip: don't get the gnocci Japanese Teppanyaki style - you sit with other guests and the atmosphere is a little more social. We met other couples who were really nice. One group kept staring at me because I know how to use chopsticks to eat rice. The teppanyaki grill is basically used to make fried rice... La Arcada (international a la carte) - Food OK, atmosphere is more fancy. They had a live string quartet that was the focus of the entire room. The musicians came around and asked for requests. That was a really nice touch. The food upset my stomach though. BBQ by the pool (dunno the name) - This was the best restaurant hands down. We went on our second day for lunch. The chicken was the tastiest thing I had during my entire vacation! Desert was delicious coconut ice cream. By our last day we wanted to return, however it was completely demolished for renovations. If it's open, definitely eat here. We saw people eating here for dinner, but we were never offered to sit here for dinner (probably because of the renovations?) Buffet - My girlfriend has a nut allergy. If you have a nut allergy DO NOT get the pasta that is made in front of you. The chef cooks one dish then uses the same pan for the next, and next, and so on. I believe the pesto has pine nuts. My girlfriend had an allergic reaction. It was really scary. Thankfully we had benedryl. It was a little bothersome because we asked all staff if there were nuts and they all confidently answered No. The meat is ok. The breakfast at the buffet is pretty good though. Cafe - Our go to food was the hotdog and fries. It's not bad! The coffee here is probably the best too. 24 hours + solid service here. I realize you don't go to Cuba for the resort food, but it is definitely one of the more important aspects of my choice. Cleanliness of the room was one of the high points. Probably the best I've experienced.
