Great Resort

Large clean resort. Staff very friendly and go out of their way to make your stay enjoyable. Lots of choices for dining from buffets to a la Cartes with a huge selection of different foods. Shuttles will take you anywhere on the resort.

Not so luxury

This resort actually was highly recommended to us. We do travel a lot and I have to say, for us it was not the luxury we expected. The grounds were beautiful and very well kept. The staff is nice and accommodating. The rooms need some updating, especially the bathrooms. The beach is perfect for little kids. I like to swim out a bit but that is not possible since the water only reaches your waist if you are lucky. They have a mexican celebration evening but you have to pay to attend which was very disappointing. We refused to do so since it was quite expensive. We figured at a luxury hotel this should be included. The food was ok, for everyone something but no wow factor either. The shuttle buses between the resorts are a nice touch. All in all, i would not consider this resort a 5* Luxury

Decent & Enjoyable

The BP Akumal was a very good place to call home for a week. The accommodations were reasonable (beds a little to be desired though - at least in our unit. They were twin beds and not comfortable); property overall very good - everything was easy to walk to and close; you could always find a lounger on the beach; staff very friendly and accessible. The food, especially in the main buffet restaurant, was very good. There was plenty to choose from and delicious. We would have only 2 things that we [... read more] didn't like about the resort (apart from the beds). 1) Although we tried to book our a la carte restaurants as soon as we got there, everything was pretty much gone (unless we wanted to eat dinner at 10pm - which we didn't!. and sometimes that wasn't even an option). We had to settle for 4 a la carte nights out of the 7 nights we were there. The Mexican option is poor - stick with the buffet for dinner. Also, 3 of the 4 options for a la carte dining were not on our property - we had to go over to the Coba resort for 2 of them; the other was up at the Sian Kaan (Japanese restaurant). The only one that we could get on our property was the Italian. All the a la carte dining were top drawer (again - except the Mexican). Our 2nd concern was the beach with the lack of ocean access. Your only option is to swim in three tiny lagoons that they have marked off. The water does not get any deeper than waist height. This would be an issue if you have children as they will become quickly bored - there's no playing in the waves, etc. Your only access to the ocean are these little lagoons - and they are filled with people between 10am-5pm. My wife loves to swim and had to go down very early in the morning for a short swim as no one was in the water yet. It was a short swim because of the size of the lagoon - not because of time. Other than those few issues, the resort is very good and we'd be happy to go back. I'd give it a 4.25 out of 5.

Terrible customer service

The hotel itself was nice the grounds were beautiful. The system for getting people around was great. But when issues came up their customer services was terrible. There was not enough staff the could speak English. Were bumped from staff to staff several times.

Nice Resort.

We stayed at Akumal Feb 18 for 7 days. Overall we enjoyed our stay. The food in the buffet was very good, always a nice selection. We didn't try any a la carte restaurants because we don't like having to keep any type of schedule while travelling and you had to reserve a time. We did hear from other travellers that the food in these restaurants was good. The pool and beach areas were nice. We did however have to play the towel game some mornings to get pool loungers. On mornings we di [... read more]dn't, chairs were hard to get. The staff were very friendly everywhere on the resort. Good drink service around the pool and beach area. Our room was nice but a bit musty smelling. Its a tropical place and we were on the ground floor so a little hard to avoid. I wouldn't give the room a five star. It needed some updating for sure. Our stay was very relaxing and enjoyable. Thanks Bahia!!

Amazing vacation

Perfect weather, great staff, excellent food, beach was great, seaweed but staff clean. Rooms very clean. Did an excursion snorkeling in a cave and then to a sanctuary . Book excursions with travel agent, much cheaper

Excellent

We stayed at the Akumal in the Adults only section. It was right on the beach. The room was spacious with a partial view of the ocean. The room was thoroughly cleaned daily. In fact, I have never stayed at a resort where the maid service was so thorough. The food was absolutely delicious. It is nice to have the private buffet at the adults only section for breakfast and lunch. It looks out over the water. The beach sand is made from coral, so don't expect the soft sand of other areas. Water shoes would be an asset. There are lots of beach chairs and palapas. The resort is very large, but transportation to other areas for the evening meals is very easy.

Second time was not a charm!!

Came last year same time. (February) Had such a great time so decided to bring my family again this year same time.(myself, my wife, two daughters(17,25) and son(21). Overall had a great time. Food was good but found it better last year for whatever reason. Seemed more crowded so had to work harder to get the food I liked. Had to wait or ask for items where the serving plates were empty. When I did ask the service was good. Was really windy all week...same as last year. Had less seaweed [... read more] on the beach compared to last year but this year the removal was not as diligently as last year. Seaweed was left on the shore in piles for days to dry I guess before it was removed. Hard to go for an enjoyable walk on the beach. The beach is a huge part of the experience so this was disappointing. ( I took a picture) When we arrived we were surprised to see all the garbage on the beach especially in front of the quiet pool beach area. Saw many people pointing to it as they walked by. I couldn't understand why a few staff couldn't take an hour to pick it up. It was sad to look at but at the same time brought reality to the ongoing concern of plastics and garbage in our waters. Didn't want to be reminded of this during my holidays though. It wasn't until our 6th day there it was actually cleaned up. This was very disappointing. ( I took a picture) Since it was so windy all week couldn't go sailing or any water activities so went to the activity hut to get a volleyball to hopefully get a few people to play on the beach. Was told no balls. A few were stolen the day before and no replacement balls were available?? I went to the activity hut near the quiet pool and asked to get the disks and poles to play shuttle board. Took a while for the guy to look away from his phone to tell he didn't have any!!! I then asked him for bocce balls or horse shoes to play in the two sand pits they had near the shuttle board. Again,he explained that he didn't have any and made no attempt to help me in any way. His cell phone was more important!! I didn't bother asking about the archery area because it was in shambles...definitely not an option. Needless to say the week week was quiet and a little boring. I'm not a big reader and can only lay in the sun for so long. My last few hours on the beach on my last day was fun. I took a volleyball out of the hut that was under the counter and got some guys from Argentina to play volleyball on the beach for a few hours. Had lots of fun and enjoyed playing. Resort should go out of there way to make other activities available especially when the water sports are limited. Tried to book my wife and me into one of the restaurants but no luck...all booked. Waited to long to book (3rd day so my fault) Overheard a hotel representative explain to book a restaurant every day as soon as you arrive because you can always cancel. I wonder how many empty tables this causes?? When we were leaving I reserved/booked a trolley to pick us up and take our luggage to the lobby. (we always walked) Trolley never came and had to rush by foot with luggage to get to lobby to check out and meet our transfer to the airport. I asked the hotel rep. at the front of the lobby what happened to our pick up. He smiled and shrugged his shoulders!! I went to check out and had only to pay $35 for a late check out for one room which was great! Check out took over 30 min. for a simple $35 charge. Crazy! I just wanted to enjoy my last cold beer in the lobby before we left for the airport. I was excited to bring my family back to this property but will not be returning again. The property is beautiful and overall very well maintained. For the most part staff are very pleasant and go out of their way to offer good service. Pools are beautiful and well maintained. Entertainment is fine but nothing extraordinary. Most was similar to last year. Rooms are nice and well maintained. Was a nice quiet week away!!

Deceptive Advertising

The main reason we chose this resort was the promise is 12 alacart restaurants. Within moments of checking in we went to the consierg to make dinner reservations. Four of our most desirable choices were completely unavailable. Most of the remaining choices were only available at 9:30 pm. We felt completely mislead by advertising.

Safe Robbery! Watch Out Your Money!!

The worst experience ever! I have never been this much insulted, feared about my safety, and treated poorly in any of my other trips. I have left a lengthy review on the other major travel website (Trip Advidor) and have uploaded the videos on YouTube with the title of 'Safe Robbery at Bahia Principe Akumal' for anyone whom is interested too read and see the truth behind all the pretty marketing this hotel does.

Robbed and Insulted in Luxury Bahia Principe Akumal

The worst costumer service I ever experienced in my entire life! We were three couples and a single friend who wanted to have a great vacation time in Mexico but our vacation turned into our worst trip ever due to the way that this so called "LUXURY" resort treated us!!! We arrived at the resort on Friday Feb 1 just before midnight and we had to wait for 2 hours to check in because they did not have available rooms and they were short-staffed. He ended up giving us double beds instead of a qu [... read more]een bed or a king (Room 7322) cause nothing else was available!!! Although this was inconvenience, we thought we could still enjoy our stay, but it only gets worse from here. On the second night, my wife tripped over a broken tile next to our room and got bruises on her leg as a result. I wanted to report this to the hotel director, Vannesa, but she refused to give me an incident report form and did not even fix the broken tile over our stay. So, I decided to record the incident on tape and upload it here. And FINALLY, on Wednesday, we wanted to buy some excursions when we realized $100USD was missing from our wallet which was locked in the SAFETY BOX!! We told our friends and guess what $120USD was also missing from our friends (AGAIN the money that was LOCKED in the SAFE BOX). Immediately, we reported this robbery to the hotel security and two security guards and a manager showed up 30 min later. They asked us few questions and told us to fill out the robbery forms and THEN they started SEARCHING our rooms and our BAGGAGE!!!!! like we stole our own money!!!! THIS IS SO WRONG AND INSULTING!!! The next morning Vannesa, the director, and three security guys came to our room to investigate the safety box. They downloaded the date and times that the safe was opened and closed (49 TIMES!!!!!) and erased the safe memory. She called us in the evening and told us the investigation is complete and they closed this case, as they do not believe anyone broke into our safe and stole our money. We asked for an official letter with the investigation results, she refused. We then asked her to provide us all the dates and times that our safe box were opened to cross reference them with our group photos and our restaurant reservations to help them understand that during some of those times we were having dinner at the restaurants and could not be physically in our room. BUT SHE REFUSED AGAIN!!!!! This is not a cheap resort, but even with a luxury hotel something ridiculous like this could still happen! Be Careful! I would never visit this HOTEL AGAIN and obviously would not recommend it to anyone. For THOSE who are in this HOTEL please count you money in your SAFE BOX!

Wonder resort

Pools beutiful, beach is ruff to walk on but have sand bags and sections that is safe guarded for waves ,food is yummy and lots to choose from the ground are so lovely.every inch of the resort is always being groomed painted .staff go out of their way to make your stay wonderful,one waiter he didn't seem to like being there kind of Sharp and rude the rest charming.front desk great help.except one I fell and cracked my head had huge goose egg on my head trying to find me a ride back to my room [... read more]. .he pointed to outside and said ask them.i was seeing stars and head was pounding it was like I was being a pain to him felt lost and scared it took 45 min to get ice to my room. ,I now have black eye and headache still after five days from a fall on their resort.

Amazing Resort

Just returned from a vacation at this hotel.The grounds were immaculate,the food was out of this world. The resort employees were always very nice and extremely helpful. Lots to do there and even though it is very large still very easy to get around. Would recommend this place to anyone and we will be returning in the near future. Can't say enough good things about this resort !!!

Great Resort.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Luxury Bahia Principe Akumal. The food was great and staff were friendly. The resort itself was clean and well kept. This is a great option for an all inclusive style trip.

Second time and will come back again!

This was our second time visiting the Luxury Bahia Princepe Akumal. The staff are amazing and so very friendly. The buffet's are actually GOOD and the a la carte's are a great experience. The beach is very well kept and it's great to be able to access the other resorts. We visited with our 2 year old and he loved it! We'll be back.

Amazing Resort - With some issues

We had a super vacation, once we got past the rooming issues. First of all Ill start with the positive and truly if you are in the right place of mind, the positives did end up outweighing the negatives. The beach was amazing, the food was great and there was always something to do. We played tons of beach volleyball, water aerobics and spend some time touring the other facilities. We were never bored! The only negative was the 4 room changes in 4 days. First room had a leak in the bathr [... read more]oom ceiling. Second room had no air conditioning. Third room only had single beds, and lastly the 4th room was perfect! The front desk was not very helpful or sympathetic to the fact that each morning we were packing and moving, which made it totally frustrating. We chose to move past the annoyances and enjoy the weather and beach!

Best Resort!

The staff were wonderful. Never passed a staff member who did not say 'Hello" and ask if we needed anything. Food was very good. Fan in our room was broken , took a couple calls but was taken care of quite promptly. Beautiful location. Liked that we could go to Tulam ( staff not very helpful or friendly like Akumal!) and Coba Resorts as well. Had a wonderful trip.

We will never go anywhere else!

The Bahia Principe has everything you could need. We returned for our honeymoon after staying in Tulum previously. Akumal is our favourite because it is right on the beach with a very nice infinity pool, snack bar/buffet, and beachfront. The adults-only sections are a nice feature. The 24 hour wifi, nightly a la carte dinners, and access to the entire resort makes Akumal worth the extra money compared to staying in Coba or Tulum. Our complaints are only minor, and would compare to other resorts. [... read more] The staff are the nicest people in the Mayan Riviera compared to many other places we have been in the Caribbean. The food never gets tiring, and the resort has so much to offer that in the 6 times I have been there, I've never left the resort! This time we stayed for 10 days instead of 7, and it was a perfect length of time to really get the most out of the sun and the amenities. The nightlife on the resort seems to have improved greatly, and we enjoyed the shows and music every night. The casino and club in Hacienda were also very fun nightly activities. We will definitely keep going back!

Dream came true

Great experience, beautiful place to be and most amazing staff. I will be back soon. Arrival to the hotel, check in and service by the hotel were very well organized. Different restaurants, varied food choices and quality were all there.

Top Notch Resort

My wife and I have been to Mexico probably around 20 times over the last 40 years and we both agree that this resort is our favorite. This was our second time there and have no complaints at all. Grounds, pools , rooms , staff, food etc. are all excellent. Booked thru Trip Central and all went smoothly.
