A great , friendly resort

Due to the fact of the "Thomas Cook bankruptcy", (no British Travellers) , Playa closed HALF of the resort. rooms. That really didn't affect us because we got great accommodations closer to beach, restaurants , clubhouse. Meals were great . Rooms were well looked after. We had a great holiday.

Happy with the resort

Very clean pleasant resort Good food, lots of variety at the buffet. I did eat the salad and other veggies and it was all fine, :) The 24 hour café was fun as you were never very sure what you would get but it was always good if you like fried. "hamburger" was ham on a bun, chips were sometimes French fries other times baked or fried sweet potato slices (a fav of mine) Bar staff were always smiling and happy to serve you. Great resort

Rooms were clean food in the buffet was ok and the other restaurants were excellent . Beach and pool were great and the staff is very friendly. Enjoyed the coffee bar. One area to improve would be to have more blue lounge chairs on the beach. The white loungers were hard and uncomfortable

It's a hit ... and a miss.

This is the largest hotel in Holguin province and it shows all the possibilities of that. The pools are beautiful and well kept, the beach is groomed and well attended. There are many bars, restaurants and club areas. Mostly, you are served by friendly staff in a fairly timely manner. We were there when the hotel was less than half full so there were areas that were not open or only half open. If this was high season I could imagine the difference, the place would be swarming with people and con [... read more]stantly busy. If that is what you like, then by all means you should try it out. Personally, I would have my doubts, and here is my reasoning: There were misses that would multiply along with the hits, and those would be annoying. You can always find something to eat at the buffet, but what would be missing that was there yesterday? The orange juice? The potatoes? How long is that line at the grill this morning? How long to get a coffee? Are they going to overcook my lobster again - the last three times was enough! Where am I going to find a spot on the beach if I get there a little later today? Bigger is not always better. So ask yourself, if you like all the amenities, and you like larger crowds, can you take the misses along with the hits? It's a beautiful resort, but it's not for everyone.

Playa pesquero Sep27-Oct 04

We have been in Playa Pesquero from Sep-27 to Oct 04. The Hotel is Huge so if you don't like to walk do not use this hotel. We have been i Pavilion 54 which is closer to beach and further away from the restaurant The room was Ok Clean and stuffed regularly with drinks. The food in Hotel was good , only problem was they have been constantly changing restaurant for breakfast ,lunch or dinner so you never know but that is ok we walk a little more. We did not have a good weather but what we can [... read more] do this is my first time in Cuba that I have seen so much rain. Beach is really nice but we were force from beach every day at 3 Pm it was like Swiss clock everyday rain started at 3 Hotel was basically empty because of British tourist problem with Thomas Cook. Literally there was like 10-20 people on the beach. It was same for all the other hotels they share same beach. Now the negative Service in this hotel is terrible. You are expecting when the place is empty that they will take better care of you but no . You need to wait for waiter for good knows how long to bring you coffee for breakfast or drink and I leave a lot of money for tip.But they don't care. Before they been flying around you But service in Cuba is going down the drain. It was not just me who notice these all the other people that I spoke with said that service was way better in their previous visit and then you cant compare how was before.

Execellent

Rooms very clean , service excellent . Food and choices very good. Good entertainment. Staff very friendly and helpful. Hard to get a carte reservation. Beach very nice. Gym good equipment. A lot of vegetables mixed with pork , should have vegetable only.

Playa pesquero

Just spent a heavenly week at playa pesquero in holguin , the weather was fabulous , food great especially at the gala night. Had not been there in three years and saw a great improvement with the lobby . The rooms have not been revamped and are getting dated , but on that note the rooms were super clean and did not miss anything. wIll be back for sure.

Beautiful Beach

We had a great vacation. We really enjoyed the quietness of the resort. We had a great time. The beaches are beautiful and the food is good. The people of Cuba are amazing. The rooms are a little dated but who spends time in their rooms? Overall a great vacation. Great place for families!!

Breathtaking and beautiful resort

The grounds were lovely and very clean but we feel the rooms should be renovated. The mini bar was great to have. The fine dining restaurant should be air conditioned. Overall we had a wonderful stay and fantastic staff.

Great first time!

The resort was big and beautiful! Lots of restaurants to choose from and lots of daily activities to join in on plus the staff are nice! And the beach is just gorgeous! They told us at check in that the room was a little small but when we walked in, there was nothing small about it at all.

Average Resort

The beach is beautifully kept and grounds are nicely maintained. Lots of shady areas and hammocks to lounge. Food was not bad, but was told many times there were shortages of food and we couldn’t get what was listed in the menu. The service isn’t the greatest here. Staff seems to be upset when approached. Rooms were comfortable. Bottle water supplies were limited. No AC anywhere else in the resort except rooms. The lobby, restaurants, clubs were a bit uncomfortable due to low ceili [... read more]ngs, no ceiling fans, therefore limited airflow - could just be the time fo year (July). Pool needs to be cleaned (thick scum around the pool) and some areas to be repaired. No wifi except the lobby and it’s paid by the hour. May be a good thing as it forces a getaway from technology. Overall an okay resort but not sure I’d return.

Great resort!!!

Everything was amazing. Well except the few cockroaches in my room. But that is normal for such a climate. Just so you know... the bus ride is an hour now from the airport. They closed off the shortcut.

Family Vacation

The resort was incredible. So many fun things to do like swimming on the beach scuba diving, catamaran, shooting some pool and playing tennis, a fully equipped gym. The staff was remarkable, the food was very good & the views were so beautiful. As a photographer & artist. I gained a lot of inspiration on this trip.

We had amazing time at playa Pesquero it’s very Clean ,very spacious , has incredible views , a beautiful beach and wonderful rooms. The staff was highly exceptional & very friendly. The food supply was great. Their gardens were very beautiful and well kept. It will be amazing to go back with my family if given the opportunity.se

Love this resort andwill be returning again for sure

We love Playa Pasquero and have visited 4 times since December 2017. Upon arrival this time we however were a little disappointed and did not get to the resort until 1230 am on the 4th (should have arrived at around 1030 pm on the 3rd), our plane was delayed in Halifax. We had booked an upper floor and were placed in lower. After a little checking they did manage to find a room so we would not have to switch the next day. They had taken our envelope back along with the towel tickets and gav [... read more]e us a new one without any towel tickets. So the next day we went up early and they would not give us a duplicate until the towel huts opened and they could confirm we did not get towels already.(waited until 9). I did mention to the girl who checked us in that I thought our bracelets were the wrong colour and she assured they were correct. We found out in the morning they were wrong and had to have them replaced. There was one day we did not received beverages in our fridge, can live with that though, enough to drink on the resort, so many places to choose from. . The staff are amazing and very helpful. Beach is beautiful. Pool looks amazing but we are not pool people. A la cartes are excellent. (Italian, Romantic, Caribbean). We have eaten at the seafood twice and find the lobster is always very dry and seems over cooked. My son had the hake and could not stop talking about it all week, he loved it! I was a little disappointed to see the menus changed at the romantic and Italian and no lobster on their menus anymore, but the food did not disappoint. The Gala dinner was fantastic and so happy to see it setup as a buffet style with many choices. We did have to wait for our transfer to the airport going home, (it was an hour and half late),no fault of the resort though. The weather was perfect, sunshine every day in the high 90's and we will be back again for sure! Great resort.

All I remembered!

Excellent staff, clean rooms, love the pool and beach! Country wide food shortage, did the best they could. Would be nice if the Jacuzzis had some heat! Outdoor spa has not been completed in the at the pool.

Excellent Vacation

We had a great time! Resort was beautiful and the staff were very friendly. Recommend bringing your own Bubba mug for drinks as their plastic cups are quite small. The food isn’t the best but you won’t go hungry - it is Cuba after all. The grilled chicken at the lunch buffet and the pancakes for breakfast were really good. Romantico and Italian al la cartes were our favourite. Will definitely be back.

3rd year in a row at Playa Pesquero!

We had an excellent visit to Playa Pesquero visiting 26 Apr - 03 May. This was our 11th visit to Cuba and 3rd visit to Playa Pesquero. This resort continues to be an excellent value. All requests emailed to Tripcentral and directly to the resort ahead of time were met! Service at the resort was generally very good. Rooms are starting to show some age however nothing was broken, missing, or out of place. Our room was cleaned very well daily and the bar fridge was restocked daily. Whil [... read more]e this is a large resort our room was a 15 second walk to the pool, two minutes to the lobby/buffet, and two minutes to the beach. If you are too lazy to walk there are carts that will take you! We ate at all of the "a la cartes" and the food was very good! We went off the resort to Don Pepe grill for one meal and we glad we did. Most excellent food and a gracious host! The only excursion we did was a day trip into Holguin in an old 50's car (with A/C of course). On previous vacations we toured Havana and put off a trip into Holguin city until this 3rd visit. This was a fantastic adventure and we will do this trip again if we return next year! A couple of travelers tips: If you fly with Transat you want to ensure you select Option Plus which gives you a dedicated check-in line at the airports. This is an absolute lifesaver for the return flight (see below for why). The Holguin airport is ALWAYS a gong show. Arrivals are usually OK but departures are ALWAYS a disaster. The airport is too small for the volume of people/flights and there are ZERO attempts at organization. When you get to the airport for your return flight just go with the flow and try to remember that you will eventually get through the variety of line ups! We usually book 10 months in advance and continue to watch the prices afterwards and take advantage of price protection at some point to save a few bucks. Shortly after booking this resort Transat moved the flights and instead of travelling during the day like we always do we flew during late afternoon for the way to Holguin (not that bad), but this also meant our return trip did not land back in Halifax until the middle of the morning. As an added bonus a storm damaged another airport in Cuba and Transat moved flights around to accommodate. This added another 2 x hours of waiting around the resort. We had to check out of the hotel at 1200, spend the day killing time really until the bus picked us up at 1910 to go to the airport, and eventually got home shortly after 0600 the next morning. Despite being "repeaters" the resort would not give us a minute of extra time in our room. They were happy to sell us a late checkout at 11 pesos/hour but I was too annoyed at that point!. This resort is not a party resort. Mostly families and older couples etc. Would I book again? Tripcentral: Yes! We continue to use Tripcentral as they offer excellent customer service! Transat: They retain the right to move flight times but the next time they change day flights to night flights I would cancel and find somewhere else to go. So yes we would book but are also prepared to bail if they get up to no good with the flight times after we book. Play Pesquero: Generally good value for the money however this resort does not show a lot of loyalty to their repeat clients. I've been to resorts where returning for a second visit gives you free late checkout and more. Three visits to this resort gets you nothing! I'm on the fence for next year as the biggest way to show a resort that you were satisfied is to be a repeater and I don't want to encourage poor customer service by giving them my business again.

Playa Pesquero...

Upon arrival, our bus shuttle was made to be safe and informative. At check-in, we were greeted with kindness and promptness, and were pleasantly pleased with our 3 family, 3 room location. We were greeted with kindness at every eating location. The grounds and buildings appeared to require some attention to details. I can understand the dry growing conditions make it difficult to grow any vegetation with much success. I was concerned that the missing tiles inside the main pools may be a cutti [... read more]ng hazard to peoples feet. had to be vigilant in placing our feet and those of our little grandchildren. I did shake the hand of the maintenance worker refreshing the paint on the bridges. He was being careful and thoughtful to those that would cross the bridge whilst he was painting. It was interesting the notes that were on the Palapas indicating the unnecessary hoarding of loungers on the beach. Enforcement did not appear to be present and in fact there were workers receiving money to ensure the lounger remained vacant for the "buyer". Odd. I thought if there were leaf rakes and more trash containers on the beach, that resoidents may be more inclined to help keep the beach area cleaned. That would obviously take away some work that a contractor would do, but if we all play a responsible role, then it would be less for a worker. Our room attendants were very courteous and made sure we were well looked after. With all the attention, our visit with our all our family members (10) was a real holiday and one to remember.

The beach is just beautiful and clean,with plenty of loungers . The pool area is huge with plenty of loungers, The entertainment around the pool and beach is short staff but this might change due to a new entertainment manager, Entertainer Ingrid Gonzalez goes out of her way to please the guest and makes you feel like home Ingrid you rock and have always made us so welcomed with your hospitality . The rooms are always clean and we feel totally safe with leaving things laying around in our room untouched, The Lobby is large with plenty of chairs and exelent servers and bartenders , we have never waited long for a drink, Always a smiling face , Only thing is they run out of the Cuban Baileys once and awhile and thats the only drink i drink, The cappuccinos are great and the girls working the station are fast and friendly, Poolside bar, These guys rock to serve us with open arms, The booking department is awesome, I always ask for a certain room when i book and 90% of the time i do get the room that i request,That is good customer service, I put in for my free week that you get after so many visits so we will see how that works out, I will put another review once i am notified , Once again Playa Pequero keep up the good work,
