Standard Cuba resort

My sister and I got back from Hotel Playa Coco last Friday, weather overcast a lot but way better then here. The staff makes the place, food was typical for Cuba. I have stayed from 3 star to 5 star other than a bit more variety all the same. There is renovations going on so be prepared but it did not effect our stay, we met people who paid less and more then us, I would have to say if u can get this place for 6-700 go for it. Grounds and resort kept cleaned but I will say the sheets in our room [... read more] were never changed and I voiced my concern to the front desk but nothing done about it along with no screens on the patio doors which would of been nice to be able to have the wind and sound of ocean if opened but if u do the bugs come in. While we were there 3 ladies traveling together got money stolen and I am a 100% sure it happened... The maid did it they didn't lock their safe properly and with further investigation the maid admitted to doing it. Toilets don't work well in rooms which was a problem for a lot of the travelers there, no face cloths so bring your own, hope this helps.

An enjoyable resort

This hotel was good value for the price. The entertainment was fantastic. The service was good and the beach is beautiful. The pool area is comfortable for kids as well. There was a good variety of food including freshly grilled seafood, omelettes, meat, etc daily. The ice cream parkour was enjoyable for the children and always availble. Overall, this hotel included all the essentials for a nice simple family holiday.

Nice Resort

It was a nice resort though the rooms and especially the public washrooms need some work/updating. The dining was nice with always something good to eat but if you wanted grilled food you had to wait quite a bit of time in line. Also, we found there was just a bit much noise with the entertainers always blaring on the mics.

Great as always

This was our 9th stay at this resort. Needless to say our stay is made better because we know so many of the staff. Check-in was fast and easy. Every time we go, there have been improvements made to the property. Other resorts have a tendency to fall apart before changes are made. The entertainment staff outdid themselves this year. All of the shows were new and fantastic. Even when rain hampered our sun bathing, the entertainers kept us all happy in the central lobby. It should be noted that even though you have to have travel insurance to travel to Cuba you still have to pay the doctors bill in cash and have the insurance company reimburse you when you get home. This applies no matter where you stay.

Beach is Amazing, resort is my Happy!

This is my fifth visit to Hotel Playa, each year there has been improvements in the overall resort, rooms, restaurants, upgrades in washrooms, lobby and more perks for repeat visitors! The hotel staff are helpful, courteous, friendly, and respectful. The beach is a beautiful family friendly, Sandy, flat, and lots of sandbars and lots of beach loungers. They now have bar staff coming into beach to serve beverages etc. Beach towels are in your room when you arrive. Fantastic

Hotel was great. Clean, Spacious. No complaints. The beach is breathe taking. We never had a problem getting chairs on the beach. Everybody works so hard to make sure you have everything you need, they are very friendly and accommodating. Food...Always something for everybody.

Decent resort.

Sun was hot. Beach was amazing, could walk for hours! Very hard to get bottled water, toilets had a hard time flushing. Only complaint. There's 24 hr drinks, beautiful piano bar. Decent little gym. Food available 24/7

Better than expected!

I stayed at Playa Coco from December 13-20th with my 3 children, ages 21, 16 and 12. Overall our stay was very enjoyable, the resort was clean, the food was ok, usually able to find something for everyone. The beach was very nice and staff were generally polite and willing to help with anything we requested. The entertainment on a daily basis was lacking but thankfully we met some great people and were able to keep ourselves entertained throughout the week. Exceptional Value

I spent 21 days at this resort, from November 29 > December 20, 2014, with WestJet Vacations, through Trip Central. I paid $1524 for the full three weeks. My experience was a highly positive one. The resort is now run by Gaviota, and the staff took every measure to make my stay a pleasant and enjoyable one. My room was large, spacious and clean. There was ample water pressure and hot water, and the AC worked fine, when needed. The buffet was the best that I've encountered in 10 trips to Cuba. [... read more] A lovely assortment of fresh fruit, vegetables and cheeses were available at all three meals. Delicious liquidy yoghurt and fresh juices were available at breakfast. Freshly grilled fish, calamari and shrimp were available at lunch and dinner, as were freshly-made pizza. There were many other selections, and the items were continually replenished. Lobster was available a few times, as was delicious pork roast. The morning coffee was superb. There were two pools: a huge one, with a pool bar and outdoor grill, and a quiet smaller one. Both were pristine, but slightly over-chlorinated. The beach was groomed daily, and there was a beach bar and lunch restaurant there. A 24 hour Beer Garden served ice-cold bottled Cuban beer - three types. This was a real plus, and I've encountered such nowhere else in Cuba. The Beer Garden also served 24 hour food, including excellent fish and chips. There was an ice cream parlour - with a wide selection - next to the Beer Garden. There was a Currency Exchange in the Lobby. I got 80 Pesos for each $100. That rate was disappointing, but I'm not sure that you would get more elsewhere. The resort went down a few years ago, but every effort is being made to upgrade it. There were supervisors everywhere, checking that things were running smoothly. Special thanks to my chambermaid Yanara, my favourite buffet servers Eduardo and Yanelis, grill chefs Luciano and Simon, and Felix and Jorge in the Beer Garden. Perfect resort for me and my family

Everything was perfect! Beach, food, grounds, people, entertainment, room, services. My family was treated very well and we had the best time ever. First time in Cuba or down south for that matter. We will return again. Also we got a great deal through trip central. Thank you very much for it all.

Great resort!

This hotel is in need of upgrades(which they are planning) however the people make the hotel. They are so welcoming and absolutely amazing! I enjoyed how it was a relaxing, not crowded hotel. The beer gardens felt like you were at a bar with great food! Beds were hard, and I got really bad bug bites. They were in my room so I got my room changed, the bugs followed! They allowed late checkout for this reason.

Get away to paridise

I went to this hotel on nov 5. To nov 12 2014 I choose it for the e price it was offered --as I had never been south before What a beautiful beach it is It is a place for relaxation and just having no cares in the world The food was so varied we had something different every day with always friendly smiling service from the workers The front desk were helpful,the maids did a great job cleaning and the grounds and pool were immaculate. I was surprised at how many guests returned yearly and made this hotel team their destination I found it was like one big family!, The beach was safe and kept in great shape never a problem to find a chair also lots of sun and shade The gift shop was small but varied and I was able to buy all my souvenir onsie and at the venders on the beach. The excursions looked tempting but I only went to pillar beach on the double decker for 5 cuc ,,a great value.i was too busy on the resort The west jet team were helpful at pick up and departure to the airport no problems!! A Resort to Try

My Nov. 5 to Nov. 12 2014 trip to Playa Cayo Coco resort,was my first time in Cuba.I found the staff to be extremely helpful and always had a big smile on their face.They truly went above and beyond,to make my trip special The beach was very clean( even seaweed was raked up everyday)Food was plentiful,with something for everyone's taste.The rooms were large and kept clean.The pool was kept immaculate.It was cleaned daily.Every night the dancers put on shows that were very entertaining.This resor [... read more]t is family oriented,so if your looking for a place to go for relaxation, lots of sun and staff that cares about you having a great vacation,this is the resort to go to

Amazing Relaxing Vacation !!!

We have been to this resort fo a second time and will be going back. The most important part of the resort is the friendly staff .They truely make your stay great. The rooms are spacior and very clean.I would recommand the yellow building because of the great view of the beach and ocean. Amazing beach with cristal clear water and fine white sand. Yoanny and Maicrey (Ruso) at the Beach Bar so freindly and made great drinks.(YUMMY )Yenny ,Yalily and Aracily in Pulbic Relations made sure our visit was the best experience ever. From our room , but most of all the time we spent talking to them.They also arranged a special return vistiors dinner by the pool side .With a Aqua Shower by dance swimmers. Dario Hotel Director took time to talk and as about our stay on the resort.This means alot when someone in chrage takes time ti have a friendly chat with you evryday. Next the staff in charge of daily fun activities Maya,Mayelin and Maikel .Dance lessons, fun games even though I was the LOSER everytime .LOL., Aqua fitness and Bingo. Had so much fun with them. We also met so many wonderful fellow travelors too. We made some new friends. It was so hard to leave the RESORT because of the woderful time we had. Yalily sat with us while we were waiting for our bus to leave for home and talked about her family and she is having a baby .She is an amazing lady. This resort feels like a second home and family.YOU KNOW ITS A GREAT RESORT WHEN YOU CRY BECAUSE YOU ARE LEAVING !!!

Interesting experience

My family and friends travelled to Hotel Playa Coco July 19- 26, 2014. We were a group of 15. This was a return trip for my children as they had been the previous year 2013 in July with a group of 8 and loved their visit that trip. A good friend of mine also joined us and flew down July 18 2014. My first experience with the Hotel Playa Coco was that even though an email had been sent by my daughter informing the hotel that we were a group and wanted to be together in the yellow building by the w [... read more]ater, my daughter, grand-daughter and I were told that we would not have our rooms until later in the day....no problem....we changed and started our vacation with a cold cervasa sitting outside the lobby bar in a nice tall glass.....waiting for us ordered by my friend, good idea to send someone down early....when we finally got our rooms, my daughters room was very moldy and my room even had mold all over the mirror, the rooms were on the first floor and my patio door latch was broken, I would not be able to sleep comfortably there....the front desk Yohander, was very nice and assured us that we would have a suitable room to sleep in for our first night, at this point I would have slept in the very comfortable lobby ......by nine o'clock the three of us finally moved our things up three flights of stairs to a very clean room and we shared a room that night, this was building 6......we were finally moved late in the day again to building 4, which was the same building as the rest of our group and the room was wonderful....apparently building 5 also great as my children stayed there in 2013....the restaurants are great.....I always stick with fresh cooked eggs for breakfast and pizza or fries for lunch....we loved the Japanese restaurant so much fun watching the cooks put on their show....the seafood down by the ocean was also very good, although I did order the beef there, it was cooked just the way I ordered it and the service and presentation was great....was really looking forward to going to the Italian restaurant freshly decorated nicely, but they were very busy and the service was slow, also ordered the beef there, well done and it was raw....ate lunch almost every day at either the beach restaurant, service slow but food okay, or the beer garden, fish and chips the best I've ever eaten, French fries also a big hit with the family, with 5 children French fries important.....I want to also mention Yunior, he is one of the staff that makes all carte reservations, great guy and because of some of the issues I had the hotel asked him to include me with my family in the Japanese restaurant our last night, so I actually got to go twice....we all loved the lobby bar, it was air conditioned if you had to get out of the heat for a while, Jorge's was great there and between him and the female waitress/sorry I can't remember her name they would start making our cappuccinos as soon as they saw us coming, always insisted that we sit down and they would serve us.....In July I found entering the water at the beach very rocky and wished that I had brought water shoes, if they have addressed this issue and added more sand that would be great, it is a very nice beach....Michael, formerly worked at the pool, was there every day and made sure our group had loungers all together with enough shade to get out of the sun....one of our friends did get stung by a jelly fish, but it is the ocean.....recently stayed at Tryp Cayo Coco and saw jelly fish in the water there as well....in July we noticed a lot of either horse or cow feces all over the lawns, this was a concern to us as this is a breeding ground for flies, Mosquitos and other bugs......lastly we had quite an experience watching hundreds of Cuban guests arrive on either Thursday or Friday of our trip, from this point on the hotel, which was very clean and service was good, was now filthy with garbage strewn everywhere, buffet was extremely busy and these new guests were emptying the food tables only to leave piles of food on the table when they left the restaurant, these guests were rude, and pushy yelling over everyone else for drinks......Over all I love cayo coco and will return again....

BEAUTIFUL BEACH!!!!

First of all.....the staff in the hotel were amazing!! Nothing was too much trouble for them. We received the room we had requested for ourselves and for our friends. We had been to this resort 7 years ago and sad to say but the food was not up to the same standards. "hot" food was often cold, only beer, fish and french fries sold at the 24 hour bar/cafe. The fish at the beach bar was WONDERFUL as were the staff.

Disappointed

The people were great. The beach was beautiful. The resort (especially the rooms) showed it's age. For what we had to pay I expected more. The resort next door was the same rating and was much nicer. . Not my first visit south, but will quite possibly be my last visit to Cuba. First and last visit.

Great resort

I had a great time , staff was very friendly , food was ok. But it was my first time in Cuba so based on that it was great , the beach was beautiful , the watch was very clean. The drinks had to much alcohol in them for my taste but I am not much of a drinker .

Simple but pleasing!

We choose this resort because of the grandchildren! Ice cream parlor .what a treat to walk in and step up the little stairs to over look the ice cream freezer.They were in heaven! Lobby has a bar and entertainment each evening.We never went to showtime as it was 9:30 and alittle late for the children. We enjoyed our stay,servers ,bartenders,front desk employees are all excellent

Ok. Get what you pay for

Overall ok. Beach great for families with kids. Beautifull! Food. Lack of selection and lack of food! Period. Lines to bbq grill for bbq chicken only to realize there is none left. The beach bar the lady serving not sure what her name was but really took pride in her job. Always had a smile on her face tipped or not. Wish that i could say the same about the rest . Overall be open minded when chosing this resort and dont expect much. If you get a good price then its worth going but otherwise not  [... read more]worth the money.
