10th visit: another relaxing time

Everything was clean including the rooms. However, they need to sweep away the pebbles off the pathways connecting the apartment buildings with a sweeping machine. That's my only negative criticism if you can call it one. Please go to the Japanese restaurant. The food is excellent. Please ask for Mario or Alberto to cook for you. Review On Memories Varadero

I thought that the resort was very beautiful such as the beach, layout of the amentias. However, the services such as towel, food and waiting in big line ups after being in "Diamond Club" was not up to it's standards. Me and my friends were actually very disappointed with the services. I felt that the resort was very big which was nice, but there wasn't enough staffing or some of the staff where not as friendly. I believe that it was to much for them to handle. My girlfriends and I did enjoy our vacation as we spend many days/nights off the resort to make our trip memorable.

Good for families

Im not picky so food wasnt as bad, nice beach, fun entertainment for kids and young adults...depends on the time you go, young adults will have more fun around the time of winter probally with more people

Very Disappointing Hotel

Food: There are two buffets open. One in the main lobby for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Hours for lunch are very limited. And one on the beach only open for lunch with limited selection. Overall food is bland and nothing special. Lots of flies. The best food was the Japanese restaurant. Although, very hot because the air conditioning was broken. The female washroom was out of order so had to use the mens. There are snack bars which only offer hamburgers. Offered hotdogs only once during the  [... read more]week we were there. Beach: Very nice beach area and ocean. They did do some activities but none that we participated in. Others seemed to be having a nice time though. You get one beach towel and if it's lost you owe 15 CUC. You can exchange your towel at the pool hut but I went several times and each time they didn't have any new towels. Nor did they know when they would be getting new ones. Rooms: We checked in when we arrived early morning and went to our rooms. We were a group of 15 and six rooms. Each room had no sheets on the beds and no towels in the bathrooms. We waited until 5 pm and still no linens. We asked to change rooms which we did after some complaining. The rooms conditions were not great and in need of repair. The facets were rusty and covered in lime. The bed sheets have stains. The towels were always grey and had stains on them. No clock in the room either. Staff: The staff is overall very nice and the maids/bartenders seem to try very hard. The restaurant staff are indifferent and the reception staff aren't particularly helpful. No one ever knows anything and they say yes, sure no matter what you ask. Entertainment: The evening entertainment is very good. It is the best enterainment that we have seen in all inclusive resorts. I was told that the hotel was under new management. It was much better before.

The Varadero Experience

As expected the food wasn't too great but we knew this going in what I did not expect was the horrifying state of the rooms. There were holes in the bathroom wall, mattress opened at the seams and it felt like sleeping directly on springs. The covers were stained and the same for pillowcases. Although there's much to say about the hotel itself the cleaning staff was fantastic and the beach was splendid. These redeeming features however did not make up the fact that the pools did not seemed to be [... read more] cleaned along with the fact that. hotel did not have clean beach towels for the entire duration of our trip.

Disappointing Hotel

We arrived to the hotel Memories Varadero late morning Saturday. We checked in and went to our rooms. There were no sheets on the mattress and no towels in the room. It looked like it had not been cleaned yet. When we reported it to the front desk, they said that there were no sheets or towels in the hotel yet. They send the linen out of the hotel to clean. We were a group of 15 and had six rooms. All rooms did not have linen. It was 5 pm and still no linens. We asked to be moved to room [... read more]s closer to the beach and the activity pool. We got moved and there were sheets on the bed and towels in the bathroom. The sheets and towels were stained and grungy. We had the same beach towels all week. Again, to beach towels to be able to change. The food at the buffet was limited. It is very bland. They ran out of dishes so had to wait for them. There seems to be no supervisor. Staff are very slow. No order at the buffet lines. Drinks are different at every bar. They seem to run out of drinks that they advertise. Entertainment is the best we have seen at any of the other all inclusive we have been to. I realize that the rating of 4 stars is different in Cuba than in the America's but it is not even a 3 star. I would definitely not recommend this hotel to anyone.

Was a wonderful vacation to repeat as many times you can

Clean rooms, beautiful landscapes, gorgeous pools, great food,and fantastic entertainment for all ages The most important excellent people Safe for everyone you feel like in paradise and time is your enemy you don't want to leave you really wish for the clock to stop

Incredible Resort/Trip

This trip was amazing. It was my first time anywhere tropical but for some of my friends it was like their seventh. Our resort was very accommodating as we were 9 people and they got us rooms all on the same floor close to each other. The buffet was actually quite good. There was a large variety of food to chose from, it doesn't really vary from day to day but it's everything you need. They actually had ketchup. Not a lot of it, but they had it. Our maid was incredible, we stayed in rooms 27109, 27110, 27112 and 27115 and she always had our rooms clean. Our stuff was never misplaced or stolen and she was so friendly. The jeep safari tour was absolutely incredible, we went snorkelling, swimming in a cave, horse back riding, and more. If you get the chance to do it you must! The animation team was beyond amazing. There was always something to do at the pool or beach during the day and the activities were a lot of fun. The other guys said this resort was the best one they've ever been to because of the activities. We also rented to scooters and went to downtown varadero, where the water was crystal clear. We honestly had the time of our lives. If you're planning on going to cuba go to memories. you wont regret it.

Fun resort

My husband and I went with our 4.5 year old son, we had the Diamond Club upgrade which was very nice. The staff was amazing, they made the trip very enjoyable. The food at the buffet was good but very repetitive. We went to the Mexican Al a Carte, it was ok nothing extraordinary but not terrible. The Japanese and Cuban restaurants were good. The entertainment was great, we never visited the Kids Club because my son was more interested in being in the ocean and pool. They were quite busy on the w [... read more]eekend and we ran into issues with the buffet staff not being able to keep up with the demand for food. We did have to wait for them to restock it, which was fine we weren't in a rush. We were never able to get beach towels from the towel bar (they were always out) but our maid did bring us clean towels every second day. The resort was big so we did lots of walking, which we didn't mind, if you walk straight through the middle of the resort you save a bit of time. We stayed in building 32 which is right in betweem the beach and entertainment pool. The room was nice, clean but not fancy. Bed was ok, not the worst bed we've slept in and they gave us extra pillows and blankets after we requested them. We are laid back people so they fact that the outdoor showers were being repaired so out of service, buffet some days was low on food and beach towels were always gone didn't bother us, we really enjoyed our holiday anyways. Over all one of our better trips and for our first time in Cuba we were quite impressed with everything.

9th time! Going back again!

I had yet another memorable time at the Memories Varadero resort from July 18 - August 1, 2016. The meals at the Dragon Rojo Japanese restaurant and Fontana di Verde Italian restaurant were sumptuous. Looking forward to my next vacation at this resort.

Wonderful vacation!

The resort was located on a beautiful beach. White sand and turquoise water. The water was just as clear as the swimming pool. The service was great. The rooms were a little run down. WIFI and internet were not good. Which is fine. Easy to stay disconnected with the outside world and enjoy your vacation!! Weather for the entire time during our stay was hot and sunny. Hamburgers (with a strange looking meat), hotdogs and cheese sandwiches, that was not melted (on whatever bread they could find). There was different food on the buffet every day, so you could always find something to eat. Not enough fresh fruit and vegetable. Oh well... the rest of the trip was fantastic!! It was a reasonable price. You get what you pay for. It isn't cheap but not high end. Good value for the price paid!

Good value for Price

Pool is great for family's. I have 4 Boys and they spent majority of there time there going down the water slide. Beach and Pool offer lots of loungers with lots of shade coverage. You do not have to get up early to save a spot. Restaurant beside activity pool is very convenient and even offers Poutine! Buffet more than enough food to choose from. Hotel rooms accommodated our family of six no problem. However the room smelled like mold. Birds and flies flew constantly into buffet and ate the food from plates and buffet. So if you have a phobia of birds or get turned off of the thought of birds/flies eating food I would suggest eating at restaurants instead. The Japanese Restaurant was the best. In general you get what you pay for. It is rated as a 4 star. And for cuba I would say that is true. Probably more like a 3 in Canadian standards.

Good large resort but more of a party resort

This resort was very large and had areas for the party group as well as areas for the families, but they didn't separate their rooms this way. So there were many nights that we were woken up by the noise in the hall way and above our room. The staff was friendly and the grounds were beautiful. They seemed to have a hard time keeping the bathrooms stocked, clean and functioning. We enjoyed our vacation but wouldn't go back to this resort again.

Beautiful Beaches

We stayed at Memories Varadero April 25- May 2. Given the circumstances rooms were adequate. I ha upgraded to the Diamond club so enjoyed th beach towels whiles some of the other guests we travelled with did not always get towels. The diamond club bar at the beach was also nice. The management of the restaurants could be a lot better. The food tasted ok, again, given the circumstances, but allowing birds to leisurely eat from the bowls at the salad bar and even stand in them is a bit much. 6/9 p [... read more]eople we travelled with became violently ill for 2 days, 1 requiring hospitalization. My recommendation would be to order foods prepared for you from the buffet and bring electrolytes in case you become ill. The hotel dr will charge $250 usd for essentially gatorade.

Beautiful, large resort!

Beautiful reception area. We got into the resort around 1030 pm and were checked in quite quickly and taken to our rooms immediately. The resort is very large so be prepared to walk a lot to get around but it is worth it. The grounds are lovely and well maintained. The staff are constantly cleaning and doing grounds maintenance, which is a huge job considering the size of the place and how vacationers have a tendency to just leave cups laying around when done with them. My only complaints are, as someone that has a reaction to bug bites, there is no bug spray at the store on the resort and the bottles I brought ran out on day five. Also, it is quite far from downtown so if you are someone that likes to get out and wonder around the town whenever you want, be prepared to pay for a cab so you can come and go as you please or be ready for a long drive on the double decker bus, as it stops at all the resorts on its way to and from downtown. Otherwise, the place was amazing and loved the wifi access in the lobby so I could check in at home when needed.

Great resort! Had a blast!

We loved our stay at Memories Varadero. The food was excellent! We had plenty to choose from every meal. Lots of canadian type meals and choices. They had great ketchup. The staff were incredibly friendly. All the areas were never over-crowded. Room was very clean, except of a leaky sink and luke warm shower. We'd definitely go again. Wifi in the lobby was a great addition to Cuba. Drinks were excellent! Would love to have another Pina Collada right now!

Good Time, but constant shortage

My girlfriend and I, as well as a few friends, traveled to Memories Varadero from April 26- May 3rd 2016. We had an good time overall. However, there were some Pros and Cons. Pros: Buffet food was much better than expected Buffet had good hours Rooms were nice and air conditioning was strong Grounds were fairly clean The pools were big and both had swim up bars Beach was clean for about half the trip Party central due to college kids finishing school Small shops on resort Room cleaners did grea [... read more]t jobs Decent price Disco lights were awesome. Some bartenders made awesome drinks despite shortage of alcohol Cons Shortage of many types of alcohol ie. Vodka, rum, blue curcao (I think that's what it's called) This became very frustrating as I'd walk up expecting a drink to find out they did not have it. This happened multiple times throughout resort Pools and beach became more dirty as trip progressed Servers were OK could have been much better as one day we were forgotten at snack bar. Washrooms are being worked on literally everywhere. This was a huge problem as it resulted in many urinating outside. Pool/beach had weird hours in my opinion I was expecting much better seafood as I have been to memories Cayo coco and remember the best beach grill I've had in my life there. The seafood was probably the worst food they served at this resort. Overall, it is good if you don't have a lot of money and are looking to party. I didn't expect a lot, and was happily suprised by somethings and disappointed by other things. I would go again if the price was cheap and I had a big group of friends to go with.

Needs Update

Dining area overrun with flies and birds at food very unappetizing never saw it this bad at other resorts we have been to.Grounds were kept nice except walkway lights out for our block of rooms.Big problem was bathrooms being out of service all over the resort from lobby to eating and entertainment areas.Out of 10 the rooms were about a 4.Beach area was beautiful but at beach bar they always ran out of ice.Last 2 days Sun and Mon no ice at all other people at beach also complained about this.Bar [... read more]s also ran out of other types of liquor except rum.Went to bar asked for vodka was told there was none,then saw man put 5.00 on bar and vodka appears from under bar.Seems all they want to give you is rum unless you want to pay.There also is something going on at the money exchange no ones available at exchanges or banks in town of Varadero.Seems like a scam to get 3 or 5 dollar tip, talked to other people who also said the same thing.Most people who go there are not rich so they are only screwing themselves,it shows in the omlette line.There was always a pile of ones this trip I didn't see any.I think problems are mostly on ownership or management and some on workers(bartenders).We have stayed at other resorts in Cuba, this was the worst.

Great Resort 3rd time visted

This hotel is a great spot 3rd time visiting and it gets better each and every time. Food was decent for cuba had lobster twice during my stay Resort clean pools and beach are wonderful. Rooms are average for cuba. Service was good entertainment was great :) Will go again.
