Hotel Rancho Luna: You pay what you get for

In general, the beachfront scenery is nice and Trinidad, El Nicho Falls are worth checking out. The food wasn't great, but the issue was more about presentation, cleanliness and hygiene than anything else. Flies were everywhere in the cafeteria and we even spotted roaches in the salad bar. That and the lacklustre attitude of the serving staff is unacceptable.

Hotel Rancho Luna: The RANCHO LUNA beach was a disaster

Hi: Among many visits that I made to this resort in 30 some years, the beach was very dirty for the duration of first week, due the strong winds that were blowing for four days prier to my coming. I never seen it like this. There was a lot of debris of plastics of all kinds. The smell was awful. It took them more than a week to clean it up. I can't understand, why they have to carry their drinks into the pool. A lot of plastic cups and straws were scattered in and around the pool even on Monday. Hotel Rancho Luna: Nice place ..but

There are far too few shady spots to sit to escape the sun on the beach and by the pool. We booked adjoining rooms because we had our 3 young grandchildren. We had to spend a night several rooms away from each other the first night. One room had extremely hot water the other only tepid in the showers. Selection of food was better than many of the other places we stayed at. Encounters with staff members was pleasant some were extremely gracious. Safe bottled water is not provided in your rooms as in all other places we've stayed in Cuba. The room had a carafe where you could pick a bar and get some water for your needs, I suspect that sometimes it was tap water that was provided.Bottled water is available for purchase in the small store on the grounds. The grounds were beautiful, well kept, and mostly free from the litter that tourists leave behind in their wake. I would go back, my husband & eldest granddaughter say no.

Hotel Rancho Luna: Summar vacation

This is our first experience in Rancho Luna. We did not like the beach, but Beach Bar is a super place for relaxing. The lunch is served there, so people don't have to go back to the Restaurant. The food is good, cannot complaint, but would like to see more varieties on the table. The room is clean and the staff is very helpful and courteous. The shuttle bus to downtown is a bonus. We enjoyed our stay in Rancho Luna

very good resort well kept grounds ,rooms basic clean food good and plenty close to the airport and to the city of Cienfuegos LOVE IT been there many many times , never had any problem be back very soon one more time this year .

Everything else is three star except is hotel is bugs infested including the bedrooms. otherwise it is good for the price you pay. But they can clean up this very easily. Gym use to be good but now all the machines are gone.

Hotel Rancho Luna: Good reasonably priced resort

The staff was always cheerful and great to deal with. The food was decent (not great) but there was plenty to choose from. While there, we didn't get an Al Carte dinner. The room was clean but it definitely could use an upgrade. The air conditioner in our room worked fine. The grounds are well cared for and the beach was cleaned up daily. Took the shuttle twice into Cienfuegos - very enjoyable.

Club Amigo Costa Sur: Average hotel, amazing staff

Bungalow was satisfactory. Maid service was great. Food was average, stay away from the Pork liver. It didn't agree with me. Beach was excellent. Unfortunately, there were a lot of mosquitos (it's the season) so come prepared with ample bug repellant. I visited in the middle of May.

Hotel Rancho Luna: Ok Resort

Resort was ok, no problem with the hotel, food was good, housekeepers were amazing. We paid for Ocean view, didn't get it yet people that didn't pay for one got them, so I would advise not to pay for Ocean view. How ever found front line staff, reception, bar staff there was a huge language problem. At the bars basic drinks, had to go off resort to get Cocktails never had that problem in Cuba before. Hotel Pasacaballo: Peace and quiet

The pool was clean everywhere in the hotel was clean....the garden ares all were kept up...there is no beach at hotel but you can take a smally ferry to a public beach acrosd the inlet area....i saw a cruise ship twice float by the front of the hotel....lots of local fish boats...barges etc as its an entry point to cienfuegos harbour

Hotel Rancho Luna: Exceleent value

Second time at this resort, and was not disappointed. Sure, it is a little older, a few things need fixing and sprucing up, but the people are super friendly and do whatever they can to make your stay pleasant. Did not see TOO much of the lecherous old men with the young Cuban girls, so that was nice. Food is never great in Cuba, but there was always something you could enjoy, and it was actually better than I would have expected. Hotel Rancho Luna: Authentic resort

We had a great week at ranch Luna in Cuba! The resort is older, but certainly didn't lack any of the necessities that we needed for the week. Great service, friendly, helpful staff, food was certainly plentiful and tasty. Something for everyone. Very large pool, great for all ages. We enjoyed the beach, and ocean. Free shuttle into the city, a great way to see the country side and Cubans. Felt very safe and we would go back next year.

Memories Trinidad Del Mar: Fantastic time at Brisas

The Brisas Trinidad del Mar was a beautiful resort with everything we needed! Clean with very friendly and helpful staff and the hotel grounds were so well kept! We took a few excursions to nearby historic Trinidad and snorkelling on the amazing nearby reef! The only small drawback was the lack of live music to dance to during the daytime...we love that about Cuba. Nevertheless, the band that did play was very good! Had great fun and would think about a repeat visit, for certain!

Hotel Rancho Luna: good value for money

Nice folks nice location. Would recommend.Must say no fancy drinks at all. Pina Colada or Mojito would've been nice. Close to airport and city of Cienfuegos with free daily shuttle or 10 cuc taxi each way.

Memories Trinidad Del Mar: It's all good!

Hi all, this is my second time staying at the Brisas del mar on the ancon peninsula. Great location with a short ride to Trinidad, nice resort and friendly helpful staff! The resort is comfortable, clean and they will always keep you fed and with a cold drink. The beach is sandy with lots of palms and palapa to sit under and the water is Caribbean warm and inviting. Memories Trinidad Del Mar: BIC - Because It's Cuba

The grounds and public areas appeared to be well maintained and clean. There seemed to have been a lot of thought into the planning and layout of the resort to replicate the old section of colonial Trinidad. The beach was excellent with lots of chairs, palapas or trees. Some vendors on the public beach but they were not aggressive or intrusive, they simply announced what they had as they walked down the beach and if you were interested you had to indicate it to them. Did not use the pool, not a [... read more] pool person. The rooms however were clean but poorly maintained. Bathrooms seemed to have poorly done temporary fixes or not addressed at all. eg. it would be better to remove and fill the holes from rusty shower hand supports than to leave them partially secured to the wall. Consistent water pressure and and hot water were a daily gamble, but that may be as much an issue with the availability of water in the entire region due to crumbling infrastructure. Toilet paper was a scarce commodity. Bar staff needs training, you could order the same drink from any of the bars and many could not be identified as the same drink by taste, in name only. The only bar that had excellent drinks was the Bodega Havana Club, the others ranged from pour it out after the first sip to it's OK. Food was typical for Cuba however it should be kept/served hotter than room temperature. Chicken was usually raw/undercooked, beef was overcooked but still tasty, pork and fish were prepared as they should be. A la Carte restaurants were both excellent. I would like to see a larger selection of authentic Cuban food served on a day to day basis as opposed trying to cater to European/North American tastes. Also a bit disappointed in the poor fresh fruit selection, bananas, papaya and under-ripened watermelon, but we did learn that the area was suffering from drought. There was something to eat for everyone there you just had to find it. For the most part the staff was great and as helpful as they could be with the odd sour individual, so, standard for any resort. Many of the improvements could be done by training and awareness (especially for the kitchen and bar staff) and not cost much money.To sum it up the reason for all of the above is BIC - Because It's Cuba. So, in a nutshell, I would recommend the resort to certain people but not to others solely on based on their expectations.

Hotel Rancho Luna: Fabulous Holiday

I have been to this hotel many times and found the buffet to have a much better selection then before. Turkey, ribs, shrimp and callamari were just a few of them . The rooms are older but kept very clean. The Olympic size pool was a great place to spend the day when not lying on the beach. The hotel grounds are kept so nice with gardens and sculptured ficus trees. The hotel staff are all very nice and helpful. As previous reviewers have stated, this is a budget-friendly 3-star resort. Room was clean, bed comfortable, always had hot water, clean towels every day, friendly maid staff (Barbara!!). Our inbound flight was delayed (we arrived at the hotel at 10:30pm) - Luisa, our Hola Sun rep was very pleasant, knowledgeable and directed us to the dining room which had been kept open to feed us! Check-in was quick and efficient. Huge, clean pool, lots of lounge chairs, some shade under 3 pergolas and the overhang of pool bar. Always ice and bottled water available. Food was actually better than expected, and better than Palma Real (Varadaro). Eggs/omelettes every morning, fresh fruit, endless fruit juice. Really good pasta bar at lunch and dinner, choice of chicken, fish, pork, beef (I just wish they'd learn to not overcook EVERYTHING!!). Staff are attentive and helpful. Disappointing a la carte restaurant which you could sign up for as many nights as you wish. They only have one restaurant and it is completely lacking in ambiance. It was not a 'theme' restaurant (ie. seafood, Italian, BBQ) The food appeared to be the same as the buffet, but it was served at your table. And just a pet peeve...chill the white wine please, and DO NOT chill the red!! Snorkeling off the beach was fun (I took my own gear and spoke with others who brought scuba gear). Free use of 'beach toys' included a few paddle boats, sit-on kayaks and a catamaran (which they skipper..you can't take it out by yourself). Sand is coarse but gets softer as you walk toward the sister hotel 5 mins. away. Swimming is also better down there. Evening entertainment is lacking. It's mostly LOUD, canned music/videos. They had a couple of bands during the week (for one hour) and one costume show. evening. Hotel is 15 mins. from Cienfuego airport and 15 mins. from town of Cienfuego. Hotel offers free shuttle to town every day. Internet access at hotel is very poor. One working lobby computer. Internet cards (1 hr for 2cuc) available at hotel and Internet connection much better in pretty park in town square. Connectivity can be elusive...re-connecting throughout a 1 hr. session can occur multiple times, but I was amazed that I could connect Cuba with western Canada, 5,500km away!!
