Intimate resort
I visit the area twice a year and have stayed at the sister resorts Grand Sunset Princess and the Grand Rivera Sunset 5 times. We stayed in the swim out at this resort. The rooms were clean, the food was very good, massage on beach great, room service quick and food warm, staff very friendly, entertainment ok, sports park fun but I prefer a larger resort. It is nice you can use the sister resorts which we did. The beach has really gotten bad with the seaweed, we only swam in the ocean once.

Amazing Honeymoon!
My new husband and I just spent a week at the Platinum Yucatan Princess, and we had an Amazing honeymoon! The rooms were great; ours had its own Jacuzzi! Our room overlooked the party pool, which is loud during the day, but shuts right down at like, 5:00 pm. sharp.
The food was Awesome - we really enjoyed the Japanese restaurant! Super fun (hope you like Tequila!) and the Italian and the Rodeo Grill were good too. Buffets were good too. Be sure to take nice evening clothes; everyone dresses up.[... read more] It's a bit of an older crowd, we found, but still very fun :).
24 - hr room service was pretty handy (fast too), bars were great (Thanks Alex and Tania!), beach was nice and almost always empty! It was very hot, though. Lots of chairs and loungers available, in the sun or shade, so no issues there.
The night entertainment was fun; we really enjoyed the casino night, reggae on the beach, and the fire show. The Sports complex is a bit of a jog to get to, but there's lots to do there if you make it over. We had couples massages as well, and that was lovely. You get 50% off if you book in the first 24 hrs, so that made it worth it for sure.
We did an excursion with BD travel that took us to the ruins of Tulum, swimming in underground caves, and then snorkeling at a reef in Akumal with sea turtles!!! It was so amazing! We went to mass at Playa del Carmen and did our souvenir shopping there as well. It's only about a 15-20 min cab from the resort.
Last piece of advice: bring American money to exchange, not Canadian. The rates are not good at the resort. Also, it's cheaper to do your souvenir shopping with pesos rather than dollars, but many places accept visa as well.
Thanks to everyone at the resort who helped make our honeymoon and wonderful and memorable trip!!

Nice Resort
The hotel was nice, staff were amazing. Location - about 15 minutes from 5th Avenue. Good entertainment. Tapinyaki restaurant was amazing. Other restaurants were nice, good selection at buffet but the food always seemed cold. The beach was ok, definitely need water shoes if going in the ocean. There was a lot of sea weed on the beach but staff worked hard to clean it up and there were no issues getting a chair. If you book a swim out room, be sure to ask about how much sun you get on your balcon[... read more]y. We seemed to have full sun most of the day and no shade so it was too hot to sit out but the water was really warm. We were in Room 4025.

A Realist's Review
We were in desperate need of a break and wanted a week to relax, enjoy each other's company and do nothing. Our favourite vacation to date was Catalonia Royal Bavaro in Punta Cana where we had a 2 storey villa with our own private pool. This officially ruined vacations for us. Since our time there prices have increased dramatically. I did hours of research comparing resorts & reading reviews, trying to find something similar with a pool off the patio at a decent price. We were pleased with our c[... read more]hoice as this resort offered us exactly what we desired. By now you've also read all the reviews and can see that they are extremely redundant. You can safely eliminate the best ones and the worst ones and know that you will have an enjoyable vacation. You may have also noticed that this hotel continues to climb in the ratings each week as more reviews are written. Given that the resort is so new we wanted to give it a try before the prices potentially increase.
We had a Platinum Deluxe Swimout Suite. All platinum rooms are in building 5. Merely booking a Platinum room does not guarantee you a swimout. If you want this make sure you book it. (heard people who thought this is what they booked) The only real difference in booking Platinum is the added advantage of 24 hr room service, free one day use of hydromassage facilities and the premium location of bulding 5. Building 5 is closest to the beach, the buffet (Yucatan) and the outdoor lounge area. Keep in mind it is also the quieter pool area of the hotel. Having said this, there is always a nice social gathering going on by the swim up bar in this area. Our room was along the back side of the building which probably offers the most quiet, private area on the resort. And even though it is around the back, the bar servers still find the time to stroll by to take your drink orders. If you are inclined to a bit more action, you will want to hang by the pool area near building 3. The hydromassage was disappointing but entertaining. You can use the steam room, sauna (more heat was not what we were looking for) and of course the hydromassage pool. This was the entertaining part. The water was pool temp. There are 2 metal seating areas where you can attempt to lay where there are jets surrounding you. I say "attempt" because it is impossible to remain seated without literally holding yourself down. A seatbelt would be an improvement. There are a couple of other water features. One almost took my husbands bathing suit off as the jet was so powerful! Good for a laugh...but wouldn't bother with it again.
The room is huge, clean with plenty of space to put all your things. If you like to hang things, you may want to pack a few hangers. There are 6 in the closet. But lots of shelves and an iron available too. This was the first vacation I did not bring my own hair dryer. I wish I had. It was fine for drying my hair. However I am a round brush user (ladies will understand this) and it kept overheating, so I had to constantly wait that out. Minor. Loved the patio to the pool. Very convenient...nice to have access to your own washroom etc. We had regular loungers as well as the plastic moulded ones. Never used the moulded ones. If we wanted to nap we moved to the other side of the pool on the lounge beds. Never had a problem getting one at any time of the day. We spent our mornings at the beach and our afternoons on the patio/pool.
The Beach: We spent a half a day at the beach every day. We chose the same little shade hut each day just past the crowd of people who feel the need to lay on top of each other within arms reach of the bar. It was perfect and quiet and we didn't have people walking in front of us constantly. The bar servers always make their way all the way down and back every 20 minutes or so which is fantastic. we enjoyed walking the beach every day. It's a nice flat walk to the left, quiet, nice sand, lots of coral and shells to find. There are a few easy spots to get in the water if you need to cool off. To the right are the other princess resorts, lots of people and good spots to get in and swim. The beach is harder to walk on as it is on quite an angle by the water and lots of seaweed to walk through. For adults only, the beach was a non issue for us. The Beach snack bar was convenient. Adequate, not spectacular...meat dry at times. Different things every day. Pulled pork, wings, ribs, burgers, dogs etc. And of course guacamole & fresh salsa!
The Service really is spectacular. Never did we feel like the employees at this resort did not want to be there. Quite the opposite. You could literally go your whole week without opening a single door for yourself other than your room. Impressive.
The food at the buffet and the restaurants was good...but not spectacular. There is a wide variety at the buffet and you will always find something new. Lots of seating available. I did wish I had a light sweater most evenings and mornings in the restaurants as they are all very well air conditioned. Pleasant surprise! Must reserve cages at the Grill and a show table at the Tao restaurant if you want those experiences. If you don't reserve the show table at Tao the only other dining option is the sushi bar where you sit and select the sushi items you want from the continuous conveyor belt going around in front of you. This was neat. Also a great appetizer to start your evening elsewhere. If you desire something specific, just ask.
The Sports Park is a delightful area for a walk. We were pleasantly surprised by this. It's not as far out as people have led you to believe in these reviews thus far. It was a beautiful morning walk after breakfast. It was before they opened otherwise we would have attempted the paddle boarding. There is a short trail through the trees (I think this is supposed to be the running track, but I would never go this alone) . Highly recommend a walk here. If you like to walk, the resorts next door are easily accessed through the small brown gate on the far side of the Platinum lobby and offer lots of areas to explore.
We enjoyed our vacation, it gave us the R&R we were looking for and we would return for the same reason if the price is right.

Fantastic and immaculate resort
The hotel is contemporary and beautifully designed. We had a swim out room which was a real treat and divided our time between "our" pool and beach. The grounds are lovely and well groomed. The entire resort is immaculate.

Can't wait to return.
Loved everything about this resort. Of course, the beach is a non-starter with this season full of seawood but that's Mother Nature. But I'm a pool person and this resort has the best pools ever; huge and numerous. Wonderful food, outstanding service from all staff who seem to be very happy working there which is, of course, a good barometer of the site. Plus, many Mexican tourists were there during our stay in May and they would know what to choose among the hundreds of Riviera Maya resorts. No[... read more] reservation required for the included restaurants which is a huge plus. Very international group of guests which I also appreciated. A small resort compared to the two sister properties: Sunset and Riviera, to which one has access but not vice-versa which keeps Yucatan facilities so accessible. We're 60+ guests and chose a swim-out suite in the quiet area: Building 2 (odd numbered rooms) and Building 1 do not look out on the main 'party' pool. For those who want the party aspect of a resort, Building 3 is the closest to the main pool and Building 4 and Building 2 (even-numbered rooms) look out onto the main pool area. Building 5, a small upgrade in cost, is also quiet from what I could see and is closer to the restaurants/beach but the resort isn't huge so really makes no difference. Will definitely return as often as I can!

Amazing Resort
Great resort, friendly staff and a great variety of food. Staff was very accommodating and friendly. Pools and grounds were clean and well maintained but the beach has an issue with seaweed but nothing that the breathtaking view doesn't help you forget about. Rooms were very modern and well kept, prices in the hotel shops were reasonable.

This resort was extremely relaxing. The restaurants were fantastic and I really enjoyed not having to make reservations. The bars and bartenders all made great drinks. The only negative was the beach and just the amount of sea weed.

The Best Resoret I've ever been at
This was my 31st trip and let me tell you, the resort was nothing but amazing. Rooms are nice and big, food is excellent and service, top notch. I would recommend this resort in a heart beat.
The negative, Sunwing.. 2 hour bus ride to the hotel from the airport as we are the last ones dropped off, and no champagne service upon arrival as noted in the brochure. Old plane which still had ashtrays, yep, ashtrays in the seats. Plane broke down which delayed our return. Food on the plane was horribl[... read more]e. Second time in 3 years I have flown Sunwing and both time we had old planes which broke down. Will consider not using Sunwing again.

Great Resort Loved the Swim Out
Can't say enough about how great this resort is. We loved everything about the resort. Our Swim out Room and 24 Hour room service was the best. Grounds were amazing, loved the size of the resort not to big but not to small. Would return to this resort for sure.

CrazyAmazing Resort
Immaculate property, food excellent and very little to complain about. The unfortunate thing was the beach. Erosion has made the water rocky and sea grass runs to shore everyday. If you walk along the beach there are little pockets to enter water on sand.. It is what you make if it. Certainly didn't ruin our vacation
I would recommend this resort to everyone !

Amazing resort
Being a new resort it was impeccable. Ongoing cleaning. Grounds and decor were amazing. Very accommodating staff. All food incredible. Drinks great except house wines sucked. The beach was beautiful but inside the water a lot of rock and coral made it tough for swimming. Just had to walk down the beach a short distance for great swimming

Beautiful chic modern theme hotel
Very beautiful hotel with very modern theme and furniture. Adults only, very relaxing. Quiet pool area great but activity pool area noisy and busy.Need umbrellas for shade in afternoon around chairs since shade beds limited. Rooms very luxurious but platinum deluxe room not very people friendly ie. Tub, vanity, sinks has no privacy like it is in the middle of the bedroom. No place for toiletries at sink and in shower. Need more towel racks etc. Tub in room not very usable with no privacy and take[... read more]s forever to fill with water and no jets. Would go back just because of all adult and beautiful. Treated like royalty!
The staff were exceptional! We were always greeted with a warm smile, from our arrival to our departure. Our room was maintained beautifully, with our beds turned down every night. Our fridge was replenished daily without fail. Our favorite restaurant was the Roma, but we enjoyed the others as well. The food at the buffet was consistently fresh and tasty.
The beach has a small buffet and bar but the rocky beach leaves a lot to be desired. However, the pools are so clean and inviting that you do[... read more]n't feel let down. I have travelled south more than a dozen times and would definitely go back! A real treat!

Review before you go!!
The food was excellent, the yucatan platinum rooms were sterile and too modern looking, we had to ask for the plastic sheet to be removed from the mattress and a cloth one put on as it was too hot and sticky...I went for the beach, the beach was nice, but you couldn't play on the shore line or swim due to the amt of sea weed and the rocks in the water. The water was also so rough and the under toe I'm sure was great. I wouldn't return to this resort. The people were wonderful and pleasant. If yo[... read more]u like to play in the water and on the shore line this resort is not for you....I also love pools, we had a swim up, the pool was too cold to swim.....the rodeo grill was open 24 hrs a day, it was right across from our room and noisy.

Very Good but not a 5 star
We have just returned from a 7 night stay at the Yucatan Platinum All-Suites resort through Sunwing. We had a very good time. The rooms are very modern and nice, and clean. The bed was very comfortable and we both had no trouble sleeping.
- If the swim out room upgrade is a reasonable price, take it! (note that the pool is very cold)
- The resort is very large so bring your comfy shoes to get around!
- The food was good and healthy! Lots of great options to choose from in the buffet. Our favorit[... read more]e a la carte dinner was at the Japanese restaurant, least favorite was the International.
- no extra charge for your room safe
- Free wifi came with our package. You can get wifi throughout the resort which is nice for those who want to be connected
Negatives - We could not find a do not disturb sign for our room door. We finally made our own on a piece of paper and put it on the door.
- The shower did not have shelves to put your stuff on. We ended up bringing a plastic table from the balcony into the shower to fix that issue.
- When you check in, you sign a contract stating that if you lose your towel, or your room key there is a charge. What kind of a 5 star hotel charges you if you lose your plastic room key (I can't remember offhand how much the charge was)
- We got a bit of a run-around trying to get late check out which came with our package even though the hotel was not full (maybe 70% full)
- Very hard to find a lounge chair on the beach
- We made 4 different stops picking people up on the way back to the airport (this after the bus was 30 mins late picking us up). We were on the bus for 2 hours in total before we got to the airport!
Sunwing/Nexus optional packages:
- I would also recommend NOT getting the "VIP Lounge" at the airport ($33 US PP). The lounge is a joke. Save your money and spend it at one of the restaurants at the airport.
- Most of the people on the plane paid the extra fee to pre-book their seats. If you don't like being at the back of the plane, pre-book!
-We did the Snorkelling with Turtles/Chiken-Ha Cenote tour for $80US/PP and it was worth every cent. I would absolutely do this again! Ask for the day when the tour goes direct (and not to 5 other resorts to pick people up)

Modern Resort
Hotel was new and clean, but lacked that Mexican feel. Rooms were clean and well appointed, but missing some small touches i.e. soap dishes in the shower, 2 luggage racks would have been handy as well, comfortable furniture for sitting on the balcony - furniture design was too focused on look and not on comfort. Hotel staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Customer service was excellent - when you asked for something you got it. The beach was white sand and the beach grill offered all day fo[... read more]od and good bar service.
Great evening entertainment and nice relaxing atmosphere for adults looking to get away from it all. Not a family resort.
