Hotel, beach, pools, bars are all great. Service is ok, some people are more enthused about their job then others. Food was pretty bad but not what you go to Cuba for anyways. There were days when they were out of certain foods so that sucked. Towel service was awful never got a pool towel after having lost mine previously.

NEVER STAY HERE!
My girlfriend and I, along with 2 other couples and a friends stayed here from Feb 15-22 2019. This was my not my first time to Cuba, I know what to expect when going to a Cuban resort. This is said to be a 4.5 star resort and I've stayed at 3 stars that were far better then this place.
First off, when we checked in. They placed us at completely different ends of the resort (about a 8-10 min walk from side to side). We said no and asked for all the rooms to be in the same building or at leas[... read more]t close. Then had to wait 2 hours for them to be ready. When we came back, they tell us they have given the rooms away and then for the first night, we would stay in 1 room and then move out to the building with our friends. We did not want to keep moving from room to room when we settled on staying in that room for the entire week. We get settled into that room, we come to realize that there are no towels, no beach towels, no water, no pop, or beer and THE SHEETS WERE DIRTY! like someone had walked on them. This was also the same case in my friends room. When we go up to the front desk, they tell us that someone will be there in 10 minutes. AN HOUR LATER, still nothing. We go back up, they tell us that they got lost and are on their way. ANOTHER HOUR LATER! STILL NOTHING! at this point we give up and just want to complain to hola sun and customer service in the morning. We turn our lights off and get settled into bed, and the lights over our bed keep flickering every 3 seconds! Stupid pot lights! At this point I'm so angry I go back up to the front desk FOR THE 3RD TIME IN THE FIRST NIGHT! they then tell me that they will send someone asap to fix the light and get the sheets changed but don't have any towels to give us. When I get back to the room, I can hear knocking, look outside and I can see someone from the hotel knocking on rooms and seeing if they're empty and then taking sheets off those beds and giving us the top sheet. A fix, but not what we wanted. Never fixed the light and ended up Pulling the light out of the ceiling (nobody came the entire week to fix it also)
Next morning, we go to complain to the customer service and hola son, and we tell them everything that happened and they tell us okay theyre going to fix it. At this point I'm upset and cranky and say this is unacceptable and something needs to be done and I'm told "I can't do anything about yesterday I wasn't here, I can only fix the problems you have today" ...... At this point I lost all hope for this resort.
The food - they had bread for 2 days of the 7 of the trip. Other then that, food was typical Cuban resort food. But still couldn't have sandwiches, burgers or even just a bun with dinner. The lines at the buffet were nothing less then 20 minutes or any pasta or grilled meat. So so so stupidly long that you end up giving up on getting anything.
For the A LA CARTS! ABSOLUTELY INSANE!! never experienced anything like this before. We were offered 3 a la carte dinners, and they had 3 choices; Spanish, french, or Italian. They tell us that Spanish and French are all booked up and that we can only have the Italian for 3 dinners. UNLESS we PURCHASE a wine (ranging from 8-50 CUC) or upgrade our dinner to a steak or lobster dinner (25 CUC a person) only if we did either of those could we have a table at the Spanish or French restaurant. My girlfriend and I decided to have a special night and we get a bottle of wine and do the Spanish, we ask what days and time they have a table, only to be told that we can sit there any time any day. ALSO! To only be served the EXACT same beef and potatoes we had the night previous at the buffet. Extremely disapointing.
The staff- RUDE AND TIP FOCUSED! go to any of the bars and If you don't have some pesos in your hand to tip, good luck getting a drink! Even if your only one getting a drink, if you haven't tipped they start tapping the tip jar and looking at you to put a tip in there. If you tipped your first drink and kept going back and didn't keep tipping, they will start pouring you less and less (this happened at all bars but especially the pool and beach bar). They expect a peso or more every drink... I don't even tip that much back Canada after a night of having 10 drinks at a bar.
As for room cleaning - sheets never got changed once during the week we were in the room, the beds got made, and that was it. Not swept or moped. Even after complaining and tipping.
The pools and beach- the pools are very poorly taken care of, missing many many times almost cutting our feet in the pools. Most of the step ladders in going into the pools are broken as well, you have to jump in (okay for us were all 20-24) but anybody with bad knees and joints, this would be totally garbage.
The beach, only a certain amount of chairs and shade, maybe enough for 70 people, but IF YOU TIP! they'll get you chairs and shade spot.
We spent 1300 a person for the week, and just absolutely waste of money. I would never go back to resort even if it was down to 500 all in after taxes.
WORST RESORT EVER!

Alright been better!
Pros:
- beautiful beach
- big lobby with lots of seating
- great nightlife
- great crowd (18+)
- very relaxing
- maids made our beds wonderfully everyday.
- stocked our fridge everyday.
Cons:
- resort wanted people to pay for spanish/french a la cartes which should be included.
- resort was out of bread most of the week for the snack bars.
- some staff pushed on tipping after going up once for a drink.
- beach chairs were next to impossible to find unless you paid money to get them[... read more].
- couple people travelling with me had trouble with their rooms being dirty.
Second time being to this resort, first time was absolutely amazing I had zero problems hence the reason I went back. A lot of things changed this time as you can see in the cons and the resort was so overbooked food, service and maintenance obviously were neglected. Check in took around 2hrs which is obsurd, three bus loads of people came in on the same day as us. Very beautiful hotel in the slow season, Cuba is Cuba! You go for the beach and the bar!

Beautiful Beach Resort!
We just spent a week at this lovely adult resort. Very clean, fairly comfortable rooms, wonderful friendly staff, and the most amazing clean beach we have ever seen. The beach is beautiful soft sand, with no seaweed or jellyfish. There seemed to be plenty of beach chairs and shaded areas most days. Food is basic Cuban food (bland) at both the buffet and a la cartes. Nothing outstanding and I recommend you take your own ketchup, hot sauce, & salt/pepper. This wasn't a surprise to us as we had bee[... read more]n to other areas of Cuba before. The only disappointment was they seemed to have a shortage of bread for most of the week and were serving hamburgers and hotdogs without buns, and they would run out of beer at the (quiet) beach bar daily, as well as white wine at the lobby bar daily. Two buffet areas would serve them better to avoid long line ups for food. There was beer on tap at the other bars on the resort, just not at the far end of the beach near our hitel rooms. The walk to the lobby was 5 or more minutes away so not very convenient. We would take our own beer from the mini fridge with us instead but that was limited. Evening entertainment was typical for Cuba, but there was no nightclub or disco for those that enjoy the nightlife or dancing.

Shabby Resort
Not only did the resort feel shabby, the food was downright awful. I got sick halfway through the week and the other 4 ladies got it as soon as we returned to Canada. Our sheets were not changed once in the whole week and thank goodness I grabbed rolls of toilet paper from the cleaning cart or we would have been out a few times. All in all, the resort needs a good amount of money infused in it to improve substantially in cleanliness and service (no phones from rooms worked even though we were[... read more] told to call the front desk for pick-up).
Best thing about this resort was the beach, which is quite nice, and the entertainment - it was fantastic - kudos to the young hip-hop dancers who did a great Michael Jackson tribute. The folks at the desk in the Privilege Lounge to book meals, etc. were lovely as was Naldy at the Privilege Beach setting up chairs.
I would not recommend this resort to anyone in future.

Some good some bad
I will try to be fair as my tastes are different now that i'm older . It's Cuba so the food was not the best the wine also even in the al a cart resturants nobody stuck to the rules on dress (payed good money over new year for a nice dinner with the wife ) they closed the resturant and had a buffet style it was not that bad but not what I was looking for . Buffet was poor staffed 2 people to serve fresh eggs same at night for fresh pasta and 40-50 people in line lots of staff all in the wrong [... read more]place . Staff really friendly its a big place all spread out lots of walking . They have a bank at the front desk Cuba Peso about $1.50 Cnd and everybody looking for tips so maybe get some smaller coins at the bank . Rooms for us were spotles clean exept phones not working (for golf card pick up ) as I have walking trouble . Change my room no trouble , entertainment was good , beach was great see staff at the beach for Hobbie rides they were very good , No diet coke EH! cuba libra not so much but pinai coladas really good it's a shame about the food no need for such poor turn out I know the management will say thanks for the time and bla bla bla trying but they are not really how can you screw up breakfast ? . put some more effort in to the system and more staff on the fresh stuff less on the door. OK over all we had a great time with the staff and beach and weather , don't bother with snorkell stuff the beach guys will help you out . Try the double decker bus 2 peosos each way little market to visit buy your booze at the airport on the way home . long list of stuff but if you can get here for under $12000.0 its worth it Dave

Very nice resort
This was our second time at this resort. We had a great time last year and the same this year. The food was not quite as good as it was last year. They run out of bread and milk a few time. But there was lots of other choices. Run out of white wine for a couple of days so we drank red wine with our meal, not a big problem at all. We booked the privlage package so we go to the VIP lounge where they very seldom run out of anything . Ailes was our go to person in the privlage lounge and she was ex[... read more]ceptional at getting things taken care of immediately. She is super friendly and very knowledgeable about everything about the resort. It is worth booking the privlage package just to meet her. We will go back next year if our health allows. We heard some people say there was nothing to eat and they were starving but you get that in every crowd. They are the same people that would have to complain about a meal even if it was the best meal they had ever eaten. The al la carte restaurants. Spanish, Italian and French were all excellent. The lobster dinner if you booked the privlage package was also great. The waiters and waitresses were all great in all restaurants and at the large buffet. Hope to see Ailys next year if we are able to make it back.

Beach was by far the best thing about this resort
The amount of cleaning & grounds staff is not adequate for the size of resort, they work very hard to do the best they can.
We have never stayed at a resort that was so unclean.example:mirror nor dresser, end table’s & table not cleaned at all, beach towels not exchanged all week.Toilet seat is not the correct size to fit toilet the light bulbs not changed so you could actually see in the bathroom.Italian restaurant ceiling fans were absolutely disgusting!!
Lineup’s were horrendous at recepti[... read more]on,bank, wifi.
We had upgraded to privileged ,definitely not worth an extra 535.00 dollars.
Food was actually good for our first 4 days of vacation till they were running out of everything including pasta, bread, they were literally using what ever they had left to make meals.
Now let’s get to alcohol they ran out of white wine, rose, champagne, vodka & beer on the beach.
I would never have rated this hotel a 4 & 1/2 star hotel,nothing above a 3.
We have stayed at several 5 star hotels else where down south & this hotel does not even come close.
We had not been back to Cuba in 22 years as we were not happy with hotel & food then,we thought we would give it a try again as we wanted a reasonable priced get away from cold, booked 2 weeks ago.I definitely understand why this hotel was abundantly available.
I will never come back to this hotel!!
I do love Cuba’s beaches they are beautiful & the people are lovely.
I think we would try again if we could find a true 5 star clean hotel.
Very disappointed from!!

Never again!
Been to Cuba 5 times now, and this resort was the worst.
Where do I begin! We all know the food in Cuba is not the greatest, but the Valentin was the worst ever. Always cold, always! Line ups, sometimes 20 minutes long. Once a tray of food was empty, took forever to refill. Beef was like rubber. Same food every single day! Ran out of white wine, milk, and espresso machine.Over all, food was bad. My husband will eat anything, but he to was very disappointed in the food.
Beach towels-sign say[... read more]s open daily 12-5pm. Lucky if someone was there, changed our towels twice in 7 days.
Ran out of toilet paper in the washrooms by the pools. Took 3 Hours to refill. Never cleaned properly, toilets stank. Lots of chairs by the pool, never a problem finding some.
Bath towels were always stained. I just hope to god they were cleaned.
Rooms- cleaned and very basic. No clock in the room, no tissue.
Our patio door had no lock, but was ok , we were on the 2nd floor. Plastic on the beds, so when you moved, rolled over all your heard was the plastic. Toilets in the room stank. I would not dare look to see what the pillows on the bed looked like. Our friend look at hers and said they were dirty, disgusting.
The resort is way too big, they said there are trollies coming and going, but you were lucky if your saw them
Front desk- Not the friendliest, customer service terrible.
Most of the workers were great, but some where lazy, rude, and not helpful at all.
Beach- stunning, but not near enough beach chairs at all. Every one complained about that.
I totally do not recommend this resort, unless you are young and like to party.
If you have trouble walking , you do not want to go there.
The only thing that was great, was the beach, the sun, and the hot weather, oh and the drinks.
The drive from the airport to the resort was just under 2 hours
This resort needs a lot of improving!
No where near a 4.5/rating. I’d give it a 1!
Do not go, you will be very disappointed!

Great value!
Stayed Jan 29 through Feb 5 2019
Room: Average. Stayed in building 26 and was great location to everything. Room was clean. Pillows and bed were hard but you can ask for extra pillows from the maids. Average cleanliness.
Grounds: great. Well maintained.
Food: it’s cuba so don’t expect extravagance and depending on embargo’s they may lack certain food items. But always something to find to eat. Bring ketchup mayo and salad dressing if you want more flavour with things. A la carted [... read more]were awesome.
Beach: Amazing!!! It’s huge. About 1km long and not crowded - you can find your own seclusion if you wanted to. A good Beach chair were a little hard to find as they are still replenishing them from hurricane that went through last year but I managed to always find a good one eventually.
Pools: awesome as well. Large - never crowded and one quieter one near building 26 side and the louder more party one near building 33.
Entertainment: great.
Transfer from airport is about 1.5 hours
Recommend getting privilege package of your looking for a little better service and options. We made use of the priveledge lounge and concierge a lot and gave us top shelf drink choices. Always a in room stocked bar (had to call each day to get it replenished but typical to do) Also gives you an extra option for breakfast and lunch at a a-la cart-restaurant - which we used a lot versus buffet or snack bar.
Snack bar also serves good breakfast and lunch options and dinner if you are good with pub type food options (burger, fries, chicken fingers)

It was okay.
We were a little disappointed about this property. Listed at a 4 1/2 star, but restaurants were not up to par. One omelet station open in the mornings when the hotel was at full capacity. No beach bbq's all week except for our last day. Ran out of bread at the snack bars, and also butter at the main buffet. Line ups to get fresh, hot food at the buffet was terrible. The other buffet was not open. Beach was beautiful and the lobby was a happening spot.
The hotel was full and they only had one of two buffets open. Rarely saw bread, butter, coke. Ran out of beer, rum and ice on a daily basis. If you want a weight watchers vacation this is the place for you.

Will not go again
This is my first adults only resort. I went to relax. That never happened. I lodged a formal complaint with the hotel and received a copy of my complaint signed by customer service. I actually took a picture of the customer service office because there were dozens of people lined up - door cards not working, phones not working, no hot water for 2 days.
1. Upon checking in, my door was wide open and Spanish music was blaring from the TV. This happened again during my stay, very unnerving. My r[... read more]oom surfaces, i.e. tables, bathroom counter, floors were never cleaned. Only thing I saw done was the beds;
2. Not once was there toilet paper in ANY of the pool bathrooms the entire time I was there;
3. There were only 3 a la cartes - WestJet's hotel page said SEVEN. At the Italian a la carte, we were seated with a menu and when our orders were taken, they had NOT one thing available from the menu; when I finally said just pasta, it was brought in a big clump, stuck together and frozen cold. I did not eat anything, extremely disappointing;
4. Only had water aerobics once even though it was listed as every day at noon;
5. The relax pool was definitely not relaxing - every day groups of 18-19 year olds with their own music systems competing with each other how loud they could be, hurling footballs across the pool and hitting people; Again - I came to relax; also these 18-19 year olds virtually took over the resort - at both pool locations and elsewhere - totally covering the pool bar so that I could not even get to it, taking up the pathways and staggering and falling down drunk - every day, partying until 4 in the morning. I thought Adults Only would be just that - adults. I will take kids over this ANY day
6. Resort ran out of bread except one day; asked for a sandwich and was given a plop of meat on a plate...…… also no champagne except for my last 2 days. Was counting on mimosas every morning.
7. I was told by a staff that there were over 1,000 people at resort. ONE buffet open. Line up 45 minutes to get in and then people literally RAN in order to get food. Did not once get to a pasta, omelette, stir fry station as once inside, another 45-minute line. If you got there after 7, no food left in the warming stations and what little was there, was stone cold. I survived on salads and actually lost 2 pounds;
8. One day there were not enough pool loungers; people were laying on their towel on the concrete; on the day before I left, Friday, went to the beach and not ONE single chair available so I left
8. I will NEVER return here. I paid almost $1100 from Toronto for a relaxing winter get-a-way and could not wait to leave, I have NEVER said that before and in 40 years of travelling, this is only my 2nd complaint. I go with no expectations but this was ridiculous, one thing after another. I want my money back and I want a complaint lodged with Westjet

Still has the most Amazing Staff but resort has gone down since our last stay.
We have been going to the VPB for years this was my third stay and my husbands fourth. The staff are amazing and go above and beyond, but sadly we found the resort lacking this time. No sparkling wine, no bread or bread products for 5 days out of seven. Often ran out of beer, wine and vodka. If you got a beach towel ( some guests didn't) you could not exchange for a dry one. The grounds are beautiful and weather was perfect. Sadly its no longer a 5 star more like 3.5.

DO NOT GO HERE
I don’t know where to start, we had decent expectations going into this but we’re sadly mistaken.
Some highlights to touch on, when we got our room we only had one bottle of water, we were told “only 1, 1.5L bottle a day for your room. Didn’t give us any resolution so we had to get creative ourselves. Then when you wanted to take a shower it was like Russian roulette if you would get hot water or not.
Then the à la cart was a joke, the way this place is advertised, there is sup[... read more]posed to be nine but when we got there there are only three and then there is at least one other that you have to pay money for. Also on each à la cart menu there are multiple items that cost money.
Now the buffet is a whole other issue in itself, literally the best way to describe it is a picture of a feeding trough had a farm and that gives you the best description of what you get. They were too cheap to open up the other area with the kitchen. So instead they make 300 to 400 people all stand in constant lineups just to get food. If you want to get something cooked on the grill such as chicken you be waiting 25 minutes minimum. Not to mention they ran out of food halfway through the week, and there would be no explanation why.
The waiters and cleaners were overall nice but anybody who had a higher management position acted as though it was above them to handle any issues or concerns we had. They would more or less ignore the concerns considering anything we had brought to their attention never truly got addressed. The waiters and cleaners were overall nice but anybody who had a higher management position acted as though it was above them to handle any issues or concerns we had. They would more or less ignore the concerns considering anything we had brought to their attention that never truly got addressed.
Overall it’s quite a shame considering there were people there who had visited this property for five times in the past years and mentioned it was literally the worst condition they have ever seen it in. This is what happens when new management takes over and they’re only concern is seeing how much capital they can raise off of tourists. I look forward to seeing this hotel close down and potential he remodeled
