Akumal Bay Beach and Wellness Resort

That was a wonderful vacation. A very good resort, brand new hotel rooms, clean beaches and warm Caribbean sea water at plus 32 degrees C. Personnel of the hotel is very nice. The hotel is located approx. at 100km out of Cancun in nice and quiet area. That was a Worry-free vacation.

Beautiful relaxing resort

The resort is not huge so it was a very personal experience. Exactly what we were looking for. All staff were exceptional - friendly, professional, and always made you feel comfortable. Food was delicious and a big variety to choose from. Room was clean and comfortable. Beach was clean but they were experiencing seaweed issues that was totally beyond their control. Everyday there was workers raking and removing bags of seaweed to keep it manageable. They did a great job. Overall was a great rela [... read more]xing trip and would love to return.

So Relaxing!!

If your looking for a relaxing resort that is not to big however big enough to offer you everything you need then book this place. The food and service is first class, rooms are very clean and modern. This resort will give you a Zen feel and will leave you totally refreshed...amazing place!!

Excellent resort

Fantastic place that provides great conditions for complete relaxation and recharge Truly enjoyed Yoga classes with Hiram and Eliu,, spa facilities , paddling lessons with German Location is amazing . Rooms are spacious , nice and clean , with exceptional view. food was great The Service was outstanding @ any level. would love to return to this resort

Incredible!

The grounds were stunning and so well kept...the people - The nicest I've ever had on a vacation ever! The food was a nice variety and sea life incredible - I've never snorkeled like this before in my life. Absolutely stunning!

Gains and losses

There is less emphasis on local culture and ecology now that the renovations have completed. The resort has the same feeling as your average Club Med (emphasis on fun, consumerism). I miss the old resort.

Amazing resort!!! Exceptional staff and service.

Amazing get away, went above our needs and want. A honeymoon to remember. I am packed and ready to go for our first anniversary. I would recommend this resort to couples and families looking to relax and get catered to.

Resort is small but is Excellent - need more pools

Rooms were clean. Toilet needed to be fixed at the end - no pressure - but apart from that, I thoroughly enjoyed my stay there. My daughter and I had a great time. Grounds were beautiful. Beach was not that great - lot of sea weeds but the last days were great. They do need to put extra chairs on the poolside since beach was not good. Amazing service and food.

grounds was ok. public areas ok. rooms excellent. dining excellent too. features good. All the staff was hard working always smiling and always on time .Mauricio you're number one thanks for everything.

Great Resort and awesome staff

This hotel has gone trough a resent renovation and it certainly improved this resorts standing as a got to resort. This is a quiet resort and no the spot to party .The grounds ere kept well and we cannot say enough about the staff. They are the core of this resort from wait staff to grounds staff and management. Food is average and e would suggest perhaps theme night meals at the buffet as many like a little change with the normal buffet fare. The pool area was clean but many people said that th [... read more]ere should be lounge chairs around the pool as this is a foal point to any resort. As the beach is somewhat narrowed by the coral the swimming pool is a great option for cool down but needs the lounge chairs. Resort is close to the town of Akumal which makes for a nice walk. There are also restaurants on the beach which makes a nice change for meals if you get bored of the resort food. We like to travel to different resorts so I would be unlikely if we went back but only for that reason.

Best Snorkeling Ever!

I have snorkeled in quite a few places but this area was by far the best I have ever experienced. Not only the graceful and majestic sea turtles, but Southern Sting Rays, Moray Eel, Giant Parrot Fish as well as lots of coral and other tropical fish. The water is very clear and shallow for quite a distance. It is a small resort and everything is very centralized. The restaurants are close to the pool and beach. Food was amazing and staff is plentiful and helpful. It is rare to have a good A La  [... read more]Carte meal in a resort in my experience, but the Brazilian Steak House and Japanese Fusion Restaurants were outstanding. No pre-booking required - just show up and if a table is available you will be seated. The resort activity crew is low key and no one bugs you to play volley ball or do some other silly game by the pool. The music is low key and easy listening. A short 10 minute walk up the beach and you can visit a little town with lovely craft and souvenir shops - great cafe too. Some people complained about the kelp/sea weed that washes up onto the beach each day but the staff work tirelessly to clean it up and it really is a lovely beach. I never go back to the same resort twice but I am counting the days until I can return to Akumal Bay Resort.

Awesome and Amzing

Hotel accommodations after the renovations were fantastic, the restaurants were all top notch. We ate at all of the a la carte's and were never disappointed. The staff were all very friendly and were eager to please anyone with a request. The sushi bar and 24 hour pool bar were a nice added.touch. Swimming with the sea turtles and stingrays was the icing on the cake for this quiet gem of a resort. The only downfall was the lack of nightly entertainment.

Amazing Snorkling

This is a small resort but it was one of the most relaxing vacations that we have ever had the staff were always there to help and Wilbert from the Lobby Bar was great. You do not have far to go to snorkel which was wonderful we had seen turtles and stingrays and many different fish would return again

Wonderful resort!!!

This resort has exceed our expectations. It truly deserves to be rated with 5 stars. Awesome amenities and room service. Wifi available all over the resort including the rooms. Great beach area with amazing coral reef, perfect for snorkelers. Staff is very friendly and willing to do anything to make you comfortable. Excellent food choices in all dining areas. rooms are large and comfortable.

Awesome Resort

Beautiful location, great staff and lovely resort. Very relaxing quiet small resort. Perfect! The food was plentiful and really good at the buffet. The restaurant were awesome too. The beach was really nice but there was a lot of seaweed washed up on the shore when we were there. We were told not the norm. Overall loved the resort will definitely go back.

Great vacation

upon arrival the resort was very clean and staff were very pleasant. our room was not what we expected and staff made sure that we got what we requested without a hassle. beach was awesome and snorkeling amazing. As for food it was more than satisfactory and my wife is picky. this is not a party place, it for relaxation by far. would return without a problem.

Amazing Beachfront Resort!

This was our third time at Akumal Bay Beach and were very impressed with the renos.The beds and pillows were awesome, buffet was improved, added a la cartes, more pools, and the added beach bar service is Great!! The staff there also amazing!!! shout out to Sintia and the One Man Band.. very nice sound .. ! It did have a busier feel to it this time.. last 2 visits seemed a little more laid back , which we enjoy . The beach and snorkelling always the best! Good and bad

Fourth time to this resort for us as a couple , Check-in was smooth,Spent the first two nights in building #1 lots of construction in that area on the new secrets resort next door , We then upgraded to penthouse which was very nice in building #4 ,however if it rains there is no balcony coverings so prepare for wet cushions on your chairs and very slippery floors.Did not use the hot tub on the roof top but did do some star gazing which was amazing.The beds are comfortable now since the reno's.Ev [... read more]ery room is still ocean view.Open celing bathrooms are kind of weird when you want to have some privacy from your other half.Wifi works pretty much everywhere that is free even on the beach even tho i hate electronics when on holidays.Service at this reosrt is very good.New plunge pools through out the resort was a nice touch however they did seem like they needed more attention to cleaning the pools as i did see a green ring around the outside,only saw them cleaned once out of the 8 days we were there.Snorkling was still awesome as always however some of the reef was missing i have noticed hence the seaweed everyone was talking about washing up on the beach that was cleaned up daily by the ABR army of workers.Mini Bars in the rooms stocked twice daily.I did get sick and so did my partner when we were there perhaps from too much tequila we are not sure .I am a bit of a inspector freak so while eating dinner one nite at the buffet i watched a customer point out to staff how dirty the drinking glasses were so the staff removed them all..Another thing was at the main bar they are washing drinking classes by hand waiting for a new dishwasher to be installed that is just sitting there.That needs to be fixed asap for sanitization.Despite the downs i have mentioned yes we will return again as it is very hard to beat this resort for the beach and snorkling but this may change in the future once the resort next door opens and kills off the delicate eco system that is at this beach.We saw many different kinds of fish ,eagle rays.Sting rays,Turtles etc.Dive center onsite which was very good.I would recommend going but watch for sanitation issues as most people i talked to felt ill and stay away from building #1 if possible. Room Tip: Stay away from building # 1 until construction is done if possible.

Amazing resort!

Hotel was a perfect size, grounds very well kept, room with king size bed had tons of space and designed well( less is more) the buffet had a great assortment for each meal and a change each day, the a la cartes were good but buffet just as good! The beach cafe food was perfect if u wanted to stay in your swimwear, the waiters/waitresses kept the tables clean at all times and no shortage of waitresses on the beach for drinks! Amazing & Relaxing Resort!

This resort is the perfect place if you want a relaxing vacation! Rooms were clean & comfortable, the resort is smaller than most in the area so you don't have to fight for a chair or space on the beach, the food was very good & the ala carte resteraunts didn't require reservations 2-3 days in advance like alot of resorts. The beach was wonderful - soft sand and GREAT snorkeling right at the resort.....saw alot of huge turtles, fish & stingrays.
